'Pitch Perfect 2' boys get patriotic for Fourth of July

Pitch-Perfect-2-America-the-Beautiful.jpg

This Fourth of July, Elizabeth Banks is celebrating aca-America.

The director of Pitch Perfect 2 posted a video to her Facebook page of Skylar Astin and Ben Platt, who play Jesse and Benji in the movies, singing “America the Beautiful.”

The pair, dressed in maroon blazers–the signature for the Treblemakers, Barden University’s all-male a cappella group and rival to the Bellas–sing with an American flag behind them. Nothing says sings America quite like these two.

The video ends with a message: “Happy Fourth of July from Pitch Perfect 2.”

Would the Bellas like to challenge, perhaps bringing back “Party in the USA” as seen in the first flick? Keep your eyes aca-peeled. For now: READ FULL STORY

Paging 'Hunger Games' fans! Capitol Couture is back!

There may still be eight months to go before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released in theaters, but fans have cause to celebrate today: Capitol Couture is back.

The blog, originally launched last January and said to be run by the Capitol, is up and running once again. This time it’s kicking off the Catching Fire promotion with a official portrait of Effie Trinket donning perfectly over-the-top dress and hair, as well as some shoes that are sure to make Lady Gaga jealous. Fun note: Every detail of the site is perfectly in character, even down to a licensing blurb at the bottom of the page. “Capitolcouture.pn is a Capitol Sanctioned Source for Fashion & Culture. Lic.741-20.”

“Head to heel in couture, Effie enchants in an exploding silhouette of chiffon and organza blooms,” the fawning photo description proclaims. “Never one to waver in her fashionable footwear, her heel-less boots are shod with a golden horse-shoe platform.”

Check out the first “Capitol Portrait” below, and stay tuned. According to a countdown clock on the site, the next picture premieres in just three hours: READ FULL STORY

'Pitch Perfect': High and higher notes of the little a cappella comedy that could

release” put its money where its mouth was last night. As a liberal arts grad and (casts down eyes) former a cappella groupie, I had to face facts: I am that core audience. (WARNING: Mild spoilers follow.)

Can beautiful women be funny? Your rebuttal, Elizabeth Banks.

Are there seriously still people who don’t think women are funny? Apparently, according to Deadline Hollywood — where editor Nikki Finke went on a short rant after Julie Bowen won her second Emmy last Sunday. But Finke didn’t dismiss her entire gender’s comedy chops; instead, her harsh words were reserved specifically for “beautiful women”:

“Only women who grew up ugly and stayed ugly, or through plastic surgery became beautiful, can pull off sitcoms or standups. Bowen isn’t a comedienne just like Brooke Shields wasn’t and a zillion more. Because it’s all about emotional pain and humiliation and rising above both by making people laugh with you instead of at you. So stop casting beautiful actresses when you should be giving ugly women a chance.”

Finke tacked on a sentence about how her theory “applies to handsome men as well.” Still, it’s her remarks about ladies that have struck a chord — especially with Elizabeth Banks, a great comedic actress who also happens to be beautiful. READ FULL STORY

Elizabeth Banks sings about the wonders of Lincoln Logs -- VIDEO

Avery Jessup would not approve of this silliness.

Elizabeth Banks will appear on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! this Friday, and in a just-released clip, it’s clear the Hunger Games star was down to have some fun. Watch Banks sing a seemingly improvised song about the wonder of living in a Lincoln Log house (who hasn’t wished for that?!) and try — and fail — not to get distracted by host/piano player Reggie Watts.
