Alison Brie's freestyle rap skills are really improving -- VIDEO

The new, Dan Harmon-less Community may not be quite as brilliant as it once was — but at least its stars are still as charming and talented as ever.

During Alison Brie’s appearance on Late Night yesterday, Jimmy Fallon asked her to speak about her amateur freestyle rapping, which began as something she’d do on set as a joke. Her secret hobby was exposed last year, thanks to a gag reel from Community‘s third season and this impromptu performance with costar Danny Pudi at a concert in December. When Fallon asked the actress to spit a few rhymes right then and there, she happily obliged.

The resulting rap is much better than the one Brie performed two months ago, proving that a stretch of unanticipated downtime is just what a lady needs to polish her freestyle skillz. Check it out below, or Ali B will take you to court:

'Community' season 4 premiere: Welcome back, Greendale Babies!

Troy and Abed are, indeed, back from summer — and it has been far too long a summer if you ask me. The void in our hearts and souls that was left by Community’s long absence is filled once again.

Not two minutes into the season premiere, Jeff Winger announces his presence: “Congratulations, it’s me.” And all right, perhaps there was a little squeal and some applause on my end. But what’s this? I’m not the only one clapping! A laugh and applause track appears to have been added by the show’s new runners, Moses Port and David Guarascio. In an attempt to make the show more mainstream.…

Just kidding. It’s only Abed’s happy place. But what a clever nod to the fact that certain elements of the show — notably, creator Dan Harmon — are no longer with us. Does the show need an update? Will it be the same without the supporting cast and crew that made us rabid fans in the first place?  READ FULL STORY

Five things we learned from 'Community' writers and Joel McHale on Reddit

Ladies and gents, it’s finally “October 19,” and Community is back on the air tonight. In honor of the new season, the cast and crew took to Reddit last night and this morning in an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) chat that unearthed some secrets from the set.

1. NBC initially halted production on the the “Dungeons & Dragons” episode.

“Thankfully, Dan [Harmon] rejected their rejection,” Community writer Megan Ganz explained.

2. There is a sex tape!

Ganz said is always surprised that fans find the easter eggs so fast. But running jokes, like the Beetlejuice gag, are favorites of fans and the writers alike. Also, remember how Abed had a camera set up in his college dorm, which caught Britta stealing a Kickpuncher DVD once? Does that mean that since Jeff and Britta had sex in his room that Abed has a tape of it?

“We have discussed this in the writers’ room, actually. The general consensus was: Definitely,” Ganz said.

Joel McHale talks Chevy Chase's use of the 'n'-word with Howard Stern

In light of Community‘s return tomorrow night, the rocky relationship between the show and one of its stars, Chevy Chase (who has since left the show) became the topic of discussion for Joel McHale and Howard Stern on Stern’s Sirius/XM radio show.

McHale said that Chase had no desire to be involved in the show, and when he attempted to talk to him about it, there were repercussions.

“When I would try, he would just try to fight me. He physically wanted to fight me,” McHale tells Stern in the clip below.

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Show

Once a year, America puts aside its preference for tasteful understatement and simple pleasures to celebrate everything that is good and loud about sports, television, violence, capitalism, and patriotism. It’s called the Super Bowl — a super… bowl — the clumsy but perfectly christened title for an American manufactured spectacular. The Ravens meet the 49ers tonight in New Orleans, but regardless of the outcome, the commercials will be analyzed, the enormous television audience will be documented, and the buffalo wings will be picked clean.

Check out our other picks for the week below and tell us what you’re watching. Have a great week!

Super Bowl XLVII, CBS, 6:30 p.m.

The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the San Francisco 49ers in the most-watched television event of the year. More than 100 million viewers will likely tune in to see which Harbaugh brother will hoist the Lombardi Trophy, to watch Beyoncé perform at halftime, and, of course, to see all the dazzling 30-second commercials that companies shelled out $4 million to air. (That’s $133,333 per second.) READ FULL STORY

13 reasons the world is ending tomorrow

Don’t let those eggheads at NASA try to fool you: The world will end on 12/21/12, just as the Mayans predicted centuries ago. (An actual excerpt from their prophetic tablet: “That’s great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane — Lenny Bruce is not afraid.” Such an advanced culture!)

How do I know the end is near? Because the signs of an imminent apocalypse have been coming all year — signs like these:

Alison Brie and Danny Pudi of 'Community' freestyle rap -- VIDEO

With the abrupt delay of Community‘s season 4 premiere, the show’s stars found themselves with a few months of unanticipated downtime. And how have they been spending that downtime? Oh, you know, the usual: shopping, housekeeping, freestyle rapping.

Alison Brie, who plays Annie on the show, has a band called The Girls with Cyrina Fiallo and Julianna Guill. At a show with bluegrass band Jones Street Station on Friday, Brie invited her Community co-star Danny Pudi onstage and the two launched into an impromptu freestyle rap. They may not be quite on par with their co-star Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino), but for a spur-of-the-moment performance, it’s not half bad.
