Happy Pi Day! Who's your favorite TV math nerd? -- VOTE

Greetings, fellow nerds. Today is our most important holiday: Pi Day. (Also, who’s getting ready for two years from now when stuff is about to get really crazy?)

Here at EW we pay a lot of attention to the geeks, but on this oh-so-nerdy-day, we thought we should honor those with advanced degrees in mathematics. (Really get the party started, you know.)  To some, nerd may be a derogatory term, but think again. Nerds are the characters who get stuff done and solve problems. While everyone is flailing about, nerds are hacking computers, reasoning logically, and inventing awesome gadgets. So take pride in being called a nerd, you will one day rule the world.

To celebrate the nerdiest of holidays, let’s honor our favorite TV nerds. Since it’s a math holiday, we tried to stick to the nerds who would have won Math Olympiads, but if anyone wants to make a case for Abed in the comments (I mean, he did have a pretty logical and reasoned argument in his Who’s The Boss? debate), have at it. We included Sherlock, Bones, and Topher because we’re pretty sure they know their way around a geometry proof. Chuck and Huck can hack a computer with the best of them. Super agent Sydney Bristow had to bring Marshall along with her on a mission because she couldn’t do calculus in her head, so he definitely made our list.

Quit trying to convince your high school calculus teacher (or current boss) to buy you pie, and vote! READ FULL STORY

Alison Brie's freestyle rap skills are really improving -- VIDEO

The new, Dan Harmon-less Community may not be quite as brilliant as it once was — but at least its stars are still as charming and talented as ever.

During Alison Brie’s appearance on Late Night yesterday, Jimmy Fallon asked her to speak about her amateur freestyle rapping, which began as something she’d do on set as a joke. Her secret hobby was exposed last year, thanks to a gag reel from Community‘s third season and this impromptu performance with costar Danny Pudi at a concert in December. When Fallon asked the actress to spit a few rhymes right then and there, she happily obliged.

The resulting rap is much better than the one Brie performed two months ago, proving that a stretch of unanticipated downtime is just what a lady needs to polish her freestyle skillz. Check it out below, or Ali B will take you to court:

'Community' season 4 premiere: Welcome back, Greendale Babies!

Troy and Abed are, indeed, back from summer — and it has been far too long a summer if you ask me. The void in our hearts and souls that was left by Community’s long absence is filled once again.

Not two minutes into the season premiere, Jeff Winger announces his presence: “Congratulations, it’s me.” And all right, perhaps there was a little squeal and some applause on my end. But what’s this? I’m not the only one clapping! A laugh and applause track appears to have been added by the show’s new runners, Moses Port and David Guarascio. In an attempt to make the show more mainstream.…

Just kidding. It’s only Abed’s happy place. But what a clever nod to the fact that certain elements of the show — notably, creator Dan Harmon — are no longer with us. Does the show need an update? Will it be the same without the supporting cast and crew that made us rabid fans in the first place?  READ FULL STORY

Five things we learned from 'Community' writers and Joel McHale on Reddit

Ladies and gents, it’s finally “October 19,” and Community is back on the air tonight. In honor of the new season, the cast and crew took to Reddit last night and this morning in an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) chat that unearthed some secrets from the set.

1. NBC initially halted production on the the “Dungeons & Dragons” episode.

“Thankfully, Dan [Harmon] rejected their rejection,” Community writer Megan Ganz explained.

2. There is a sex tape!

Ganz said is always surprised that fans find the easter eggs so fast. But running jokes, like the Beetlejuice gag, are favorites of fans and the writers alike. Also, remember how Abed had a camera set up in his college dorm, which caught Britta stealing a Kickpuncher DVD once? Does that mean that since Jeff and Britta had sex in his room that Abed has a tape of it?

“We have discussed this in the writers’ room, actually. The general consensus was: Definitely,” Ganz said.
