Report: Clay Aiken may run for Congress

Could Americans be getting another chance to cast their votes for Clay Aiken?

The answer is “possibly,” according to a new report in the Washington Blade. The article cites anonymous sources who say that the American Idol and Celebrity Apprentice runner-up is “actively considering” a bid to represent North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district, which is currently represented by Republican Renee Ellmers. (Aiken would run as a Democrat.)

According to the Blade, Aiken has been meeting with both pollsters and political figures including strategist Betsy Conti, who’s worked previously with Al Gore. The filing deadline for the district’s primary is Feb. 28. READ FULL STORY

Late Night Highlight: Clay Aiken talks 'Duck Dynasty' homophobia controversy -- VIDEO

Everybody’s got an opinion on Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, who was suspended from his hit A&E show after making ardently anti-gay comments in a recent GQ interview — including singer Clay Aiken, who famously came out in 2008. And thanks to an appearance on Thursday’s Arsenio, Aiken had a chance to air his Robertson thoughts on national TV.

“Homophobia, all of it’s built out of fear,” the American Idol runner-up told his old Celebrity Apprentice pal Arsenio Hall. “If the person had said something about interracial marriage, or said ‘we need to put all children with disabilities in institutions,’ would we still be saying, ‘well, that’s free speech, we’re okay with that opinion’? And I think the answer is ‘no.’”

(For the record, Robertson did make racist comments in his interview as well, saying that while growing up in pre-Civil-Rights-era Louisiana, “I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once… They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’ — not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”)

Get your political opinions from musical reality show stars: Clay Aiken and John Rich weigh in on RNC

File under: No surprise at all. Celebrities are getting into hot water on Twitter over the Republican National Convention.

Today’s 140-character fueled feud is between Clay Aiken and Big & Rich singer John Rich. Aiken tweeted, “Playing drinking game with my brother now. We drink every time we see a black person on screen at the RNC convention. #soberasamormon”

Can you guess which part made Rich upset? Surprise! It was the whole thing. Rich fired back (multiple times) on Twitter, writing, “”@clayaiken:@cowboytroy We drink every time we see a black person at the RNC//CLAY! You should be ashamed for racist comments like THAT!WOW.”

Clay Aiken defends same-sex marriage on 'Face the Nation,' looks like a polished politician

No, it wasn’t a task for The Celebrity Apprentice (wrong network, for starters). Former American Idol runner-up and current Celeb Apprentice contestant Clay Aiken appeared this morning on CBS’ Face the Nation on a panel about gay marriage — and the real headline is that the one-time America’s Next Top Model guest judge played the part of talking head quite admirably.  READ FULL STORY
