Never one to mince words about the issues, Cher started a flame war yesterday when she tweeted — and later deleted — some harsh words for the GOP’s presidential hopeful: “If ROMNEY gets elected I don’t know if I can breathe same air as Him & his Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters.”

Though many rose to support Cher’s passion, several followers railed against the Oscar winner for her opinions. It only fueled the diva, who responded to one fan, “TOO HARSH? That’s me Holding BACK! They care nothing about the POOR The OLD The SICK The HUNGRY CHILDREN & People striving 4 a Better LIFE ! –” READ FULL STORY »

She got you, babe. Cher has taken to Twitter to defend her son Chaz Bono’s decision to join Dancing With the Stars as the series’ first transgendered contestant. After becoming aware that Chaz was taking a lot of heat from transphobic Internet commenters, she encouraged her fans to voice support for him on blogs and message boards and reminded everyone, “Mothers don’t stop Getting angry with stupid bigots who fk with their children !”

Cher assures America: “bet VAST MAJORITY of People will LOVE CHAZ on DWTS ! & it’s took Fkg Guts 2! Chaz isn’t exactly the ‘Gotta Dance Gotta Dance’ kinda Guy.”

Is it possible Cher’s perfectly crafted tweets are even more exquisite than her songs? READ FULL STORY »

James Franco covers a Cher song from 'Burlesque'

james-francoImage Credit: Roger Kisby/Getty ImageEverything James Franco does is either densely symbolic or fabulously meaningless, and his latest shenanigan is no different: The mega-hyphenate star tweeted an extended audio tidbit of himself singing Cher’s big song from Burlesque, “You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me.” According to Franco’s tweet, “they pulled this from the oscar show,” which could be true… or it could also just be a teasing reference to the ongoing “Will/Should Franco Sing at the Oscars?” debate. Is Franco’s song serious, funny, or seriously funny? Decide for yourself by listening to the song after the jump… [Update: Oh, if only you could turn back time... Looks like it’s been taken down, folks. But just let yourself imagine it, readers. It's exactly what you'd expect, except more, except less.] READ FULL STORY »

New 'Burlesque' clips: Stop me if you've heard this one before

If you liked Chicago and the “Lady Marmalade” video from back in the day, but wished they were just more about booty-shaking, well, rejoice! Because there are two new clips from Burlesque, and that’s exactly what they are. Sorry, Bob Fosse, but these breasts won’t jiggle themselves!

Here’s Christina performing “Express,” which sounds like “Feeling Good,” except without the emotional potency, and “The Gospel Truth” from Hercules, which no one remembers except me. READ FULL STORY »

Cher does David Letterman: A round-up of the best sound bites from her visit

Burlesque star Cher showed up on the Late Show with David Letterman last night to promote her big razzle-dazzle movie, but she ended up talking quite a bit about other things. Mostly, how she deals with fame; a hilarious gay Bar Mitzvah wedding that she went to; and her never-ending Las Vegas show. As you might imagine, Cher paired with Letterman is rather hilarious. Here, the highlights from her appearance, in sound bite form, and the video clip is embedded below.

On being recognized: “The only time it’s rough is like — well, the paparazzi are nightmares, so they’re never nice. They’re always just crap.” READ FULL STORY »

'Burlesque': International trailer gets it right

If the first Burlesque trailer left you on the fence, you’ll definitely want to watch the international trailer below. It’s a better cut with a more relaxed-looking Christina Aguilera, more dancing, more romance (with proof that Cam Gigandet will run the full gamut: shirtless, shirts without sleeves, shirts with sleeves), more Stanley Tucci (imagine if he’d been in Showgirls), more Kristen Bell (with Julianne Hough), and more Cher. (Not only do we get a tease of her onstage, but we also get to watch her deliver the line “If you fall off the stage, leg extended, boobs up.”) Now, I’m officially in. And still curious about when we’ll see a great Alan Cumming moment in a preview. You?  READ FULL STORY »

Did VMAs host Chelsea Handler take on an impossible job?

chelsea-handlerImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesCould hosting the VMAs be the most unrewarding job in Hollywood? In light of last night’s questionable performance by E!’s late-night queen Chelsea Handler, I started thinking about how few VMA emcees have been widely lauded for their performances over the years. Just peruse this list of past hosts. Are any of these people — ranging from Bette Midler (yes!) and Dan Akroyd to Dennis Miller (twice!) and Ben Stiller — remembered for doing an exceptionally good job?

Sure, a handful, like Jimmy Fallon and Chris Rock, may be remembered with some level of fondness. But unlike, say, the Oscars or the Emmys — where, for example,  Steve Martin and Neil Patrick Harris have won rave reviews for their respective recent hosting stints — the very nature of the VMAs dictates that the lion’s share of the morning-after buzz will focus on outrageous stunts or musical performances, and not on the host. Handler seemed to be aware of this conundrum last night, and it resulted in an unfortunate “look how craaaazy I can be!” vibe that downplayed her brash intelligence and felt inauthentic to boot. 'The Tourist' or 'Burlesque': Which duo looks more flawless?

tourist-BurlesqueImage Credit: Peter MountainBefore you answer, look closely. Your gut will say Cher and Christina in the Chicago-esque Burlesque poster because they look like paintings, but the latest shot to be released of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie in The Tourist shows her shielding her eyes from the divine light that is bathing him. (Or, she’s just looking for their makeup artist, who really should be commended.) You’re gonna need to see that one blown up, we know.
