Super Bowl XLV: Best and worst commercials?

Presenting… Your Super Bowl Commercials of 2011, brought to you by Eminem. He LOST HIMSELF in not one but two major ad campaigns this year. During the first quarter, Claymation Eminem quenched his thirst with a refreshing Brisk iced tea; then just before halftime, super-intense human Eminem delivered a cross between a eulogy and a giant “eff you, pay attention” on behalf of the city of Detroit. And you thought he didn’t do commercials.

Meanwhile, Ozzy Osbourne finally had to find out what a Bieber was, Adrien Brody serenaded some crying/orgasmic women (Stella Artois), Faith Hill’s rack is huge (Teleflora), Timothy Hutton is really, really into Tibetan fish curry (Groupon.com), and Kim Kardashian’s ass (Shape-Ups) is ass usual. Plus, so many movie trailers, including J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s Super 8, Terra Nova, Thor, Cowboys & Aliens — starring Danny Craig and Indy Ford — Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and a first look at Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger. My five favorite commercials, after the break. READ FULL STORY

Kanye may have underpaid for custom-made watch

I think Kanye West should have blown more than $180,000 on this custom-made yellow gold Tiret watch adorned with his own face. The “Kanye” portion of the watch is encrusted with only eight carats of yellow, black, brown and white diamonds. A few more Ks could surely have lent themselves to something more resemblant of a human ear, or smoothed the bulbous terrain of his jowls and chin. When I commission custom-made watches of my face, I tend to allow a full year instead of Kanye’s “five months to create the dial of the watch itself, which is made of a gold-colored mother-of-pearl.” And why are the diamonds on the border so small? This is a disappointment. [PopEater]

'Oprah's Ultimate Favorite Things': 5 Facial Expressions of Near-Terror on Monday's show!

favorite-thingsImage Credit: George Burns/Harpo ProductionsIt wasn’t OHHHH-VERRRRRRRR! On today’s Oprah, Ms. Thang delivered a message from on high (her metaphorical perch atop a pile of solid gold iPads) to announce to the studio audience that THEY TOO would be on the receiving end of Santa Winfrey’s sleighful of presents. First, she baited a lady in a hot pink blazer to admit how disappointed everyone probably was because they’d just seen those lucky bitches from the previous taping (that had happened just before theirs) pile out with tons of new stuff.

And then. [A single ornament rolls out.] What’s this? “I got an ornament!” [It begins to snow.] “Actually….it’s beginning to look a lot like….FAVORITE THI-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGS!” READ FULL STORY

Heidi Klum out-does all celebrity Halloween costumes, as usual

heidi-klum-sealImage Credit: Bryan Bedder/Getty ImagesCelebrities dress up for Halloween just like the rest of us. Except if you’re Heidi Klum and Seal. Then you dress up for Halloween like it’s the most important thing ever and seriously go all-out, as they have been known to do for the last several years. Behold this year’s get-up. Klum is dressed “an alien transformer,” and Seal is the Silver Surfer, though that belt is definitely not canon.

Elaborate, non-skanky costumes are awesome, but I’m partial to the homemade kind, no matter what. This amazing Tauntaun costume, complete with stilts, is an all-time great, and it’s impossible not to love this little kid dressed as Robocop. On the celebrity front, Kyle MacLachlan gets high marks.

What were the best costumes you saw out and about, PopWatchers?

'Who's the Boss' star Danny Pintauro is now a Tupperware salesman

Yes, little Jonathan Bower from Who’s the Boss is now selling wonderful little air-tight items on his personal Tupperware site. My fave — and the one I think Judith Light would appreciate the most — is the “Fashion Lunch Set” which comes in the always classic color combo of “Gumdrop/Snow White.”

The site is a veritable treasure chest of info about Pintauro’s current life: He lives with three dogs (despite starring in 1983′s terrifying canine horror flick Cujo), his friends sometimes call him “Martha,” and he’s fond of bringing dip to parties. Oddly no mention of his stint on a classic ’80′s sitcom. READ FULL STORY

Madonna's juniors line for Macy's launches: Do you want to be a Material Girl?

lourdes-madonnaMadonna famously told us in the 80s that we’re all just material girls living in a material world, but after looking at the selection of tutu skirts, shredded leggings, furry vests, and metallic bandeau tops in her new juniors line, I’m just not sure I want to be part of the MG club anymore.

Lady M debuted her juniors line, Material Girl, at New York City’s Macy’s last night, joined by design partner (and daughter) Lola Leon and the line’s spokesmodel, Taylor Momsen, who looked happy as a clam to be there. The women walked the pink carpet (so tween!) to celebrate the launch of the line that’s big on faux leather, the ’80s. and bustiers that seem mighty inappropriate for a 13-year-old.

What do you guys think of the line? Do you think Madonna has another career up her sleeve?

Jane Fonda is releasing new workout videos...and she's 72 years old!

Jane-Fondas-work-outI can remember breaking a sweat to Jane Fonda’s workout videos as a child with my mom in our living room. (This is probably neck-and-neck with my mom and I seeing Madonna in concert as the gayest thing we’ve ever done together.) So, I’m pleased as punch to hear that Fonda, now 72(!) and looking fabu, is releasing a new series of workout videos this November, with senior-centric titles like Walk Out. The first photos have been released from the videos, and I’m already obsessed with this bizarre living room that she’s working out in, especially the Philippe Starck-esque chair she uses for leg lifts. But the big takeaway is that Fonda is still looking good — sure, she’s admitted to having work done but, if folks are gonna get plastic surgery, they should check out Fonda’s doctor. The dude (or dudette) knows what he/she’s doing.

Click below for a little flashback to Jane’s old-school videos…Stretch it out! READ FULL STORY

Martha Stewart talks 'Mad Men' and season six of her show

Martha-StewartImage Credit: Matthew Peyton/Getty ImagesMartha Stewart, everyone’s favorite lifestyle expert, has found a new home for season six of The Martha Stewart Show: the Hallmark Channel. The Emmy Award-winning show will also be anchored by two original series: Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer — a daily talk show with Alexis Stewart (who just so happens to be Martha’s daughter) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt — and Mad Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn, which will focus on family meals. Additionally, Stewart’s developing several holiday and interview specials to air this fall. But despite all the changes, Stewart said the Hallmark Channel is hardly turning into the Martha Stewart Network. “I just want the Hallmark viewers who are now the current viewers to realize that their favorite programming that’s being replaced by our programming will be on at just different times,” she said in a conference call with reporters last week. Here, Stewart talks about the upcoming changes and the new shows that premiere on Hallmark Monday Sept. 13.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Why make the switch to Hallmark?
MARTHA STEWART:
The daytime television landscape is very crowded. Network and syndication is sort of at a crossroads now. With Oprah making the announcement that she is going to move her programming to cable and with us announcing that we are already moving to cable and being active on Sept. 13 is an indication that many of us want to have stable time periods. Now we’ll be able to be seen everywhere at 10 a.m. and not be at the mercy of syndication. And, also, the Hallmark deal allows me to start really putting in one place the great programming, the lifestyle programming that I’ve always really wanted to do in our company. Brett Favre bows out...AGAIN! Is he the biggest celebrity serial-retiree out there?

favre-cherImage Credit: Tom Hauck/Getty Images; Tom Walck/PR PhotosLast night, Brett Favre told the Minnesota Vikings that he would not be playing in the upcoming 2010 season, citing an ankle injury as his reason for backing out. Really? We’re doing this again? The 40-year-old QB is no stranger to abandoning his team in the lead-up to the season. In 2008, he “retired” from the Green Bay Packers, only to be traded to the New York Jets. A year later, he “retired” once again, but then decided to play for the Vikings at the last minute. Are we all seeing the pattern here? Now I don’t know whether it’s Favre’s ankle or his ego that’s more swollen, but for whatever reason, the man doesn’t like to stay put for very long. Seriously, he’s becoming a more prolific retiree than Cher!

So I’m wondering, PopWatchers: Who is the biggest serial-retiree out there? Of all the celebrities that have supposedly retired, only to make their “comeback” a few months later, who is the most egregious offender? Vote in the poll below:
