It’s the Sharks vs. the Jets, with a 2012 twist.

Members of the British boy bands The Wanted and One Direction got into it this past week. But instead of Jeté-ing across recording studios, the members went the much more efficient but boring route of Living Like They Were Young by engaging in a ridiculous celebrity Twitter feud.

It all started when One Direction’s Zayn Malik tweeted at The Wanted’s Max George. George had written, “Psy and me getting messy #geekandproud,”which “forced” Malik to write, “The first step is totally acceptance. #geekoftheweek. Oprah Winfrey talks about her childhood in serious chat with David Letterman -- VIDEO

Feud? What feud? On Monday night, Oprah Winfrey joined David Letterman for a fairly serious conversation at the late night host’s alma mater, Ball State University — and from the resulting clips, it’s pretty impossible to tell that there was ever any bad blood between these two.

As Letterman explained in 2010, he and Oprah first butted heads long before his infamous “Oprah, Uma. Uma, Oprah” joke at the 1995 Academy Awards. Apparently, Letterman pulled a prank on Winfrey when he spotted her at a restaurant, pinning his bill on the media mogul — and sparking a mutual antipathy that lasted until 2005. Now, though, the two appear to be the best of friends. While interviewing Winfrey for his Ball State lecture series, Letterman had nothing but praise for his Hollywood peer: “I feel personally touched and lucky to spend this kind of time with this woman,” he said at one point, calling her experiences “stunning.” READ FULL STORY »

This weekend in Chris Brown news: A vulgar Twitter fight, an apparent Rihanna reconciliation

Please do not adjust your computer screen. You are, in fact, seeing a photo that looks an awful lot like a shirtless Chris Brown lying facedown on Rihanna’s bed. How do we know it’s Rihanna’s bed? Because the star posted the photo to Instagram on Saturday, accompanying it with this caption: “Dis n–……. #BartObsessed.” (Note the image of Bart Simpson under the dude’s head.)

Rihanna couldn’t have been paying attention to Brown’s Twitter page this weekend, considering Brown spent a good chunk of time Sunday getting into a vulgar tweetspat with writer/comedian Jenny Johnson. (Johnson, by her own admission, has made a hobby out of poking fun at Brown via Twitter.)

Brown’s side of the exchange isn’t online anymore, since he apparently deleted his Twitter page after the brawl. Still, Johnson’s retweets show the progression of their argument, from instigation to culmination. Warning: This language isn’t really safe for anywhere.

Guy Fieri fires back at 'New York Times' critic -- VIDEO

Earlier this week, the New York Times published a scathing review of Guy Fieri’s new Times Square restaurant that has resonated through Flavor Town and beyond. The piece — penned by restaurant critic Pete Wells — took aim at everything from fishy-tasting marshmallows to a drink that “tastes like some combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde,” reserving some special scorn for Fieri’s own divisive personality: “When you cruise around the country for your show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, rasping out slangy odes to the unfancy places where Americans like to get down and greasy, do you really mean it?” Wells asked. “Or is it all an act?”

This morning, Fieri appeared on the Today show to respond to a few of the 34 biting questions Wells posed in his review. The Food Network star — who doubles as America’s 10th highest-paid chef, according to Today — opened by saying that Wells’s over-the-top negativity was uncalled for: “I just thought it was ridiculous,” he told Savannah Guthrie. “I mean, I’ve read reviews. There’s good and there’s bad in the restaurant business, but that, to me, went so overboard it really seemed like there was another agenda.”

Jonah Hill and CNN anchor Don Lemon are in a Twitter feud

Feud alert! CNN Newsroom host Don Lemon and Oscar-nominee Jonah Hill — man, isn’t it still a little weird to see “Oscar-nominee Jonah Hill”? — got into a virtual pissing match yesterday. And while Hill has deleted his half of their heated exchange, plenty of sources had already copied what they said before the original tweets disappeared into the ether.

It all began when Lemon complained that Hill had been rude to him in a hotel. “Said hi to @jonahhill in hotel. Think he thought i was bellman. Didn’t know his name til bellman told me. A lesson to always be kind.” When a follower asked Lemon to clarify what had happened, Lemon resorted to name calling: “He [Hill] was a tool.”

In a tweet that’s since disappeared, Hill shot back at Lemon: “I said hi. What do you want me to do, move in with you? I was in a hurry. Didn’t realize you were a 12 year old girl. Peace.” Whoa — way harsh, Tai. Here’s Lemon’s response: READ FULL STORY »

Contrarian Corner: Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are music's mean girls

Katy Perry’s 3-D extravaganza Part of Me hit theaters this week. Obvious self-reflective implications aside, it’s strange that Perry chose this title from her collection because it’s lyrically the least Katy Perry-ish song in her repertoire. “Part of Me” foregoes the whipped-cream-and-rainbows sensibility that so perplexes (and captivates) my colleague Annie Barrett. It speaks of overcoming adversity and seeks self-empowerment. It’s also a hit job.

I’m not here to sift through the dross surrounding Perry’s divorce from Russell Brand. And I can’t fault Perry for documenting the unraveling of the relationship in the documentary — not to do so would be as glossy and inauthentic as one of her lolliprops. Still, it seems this song speaks to a potential directional shift in girl pop that, frankly, is troubling. Perry and her fellow hit-churner Taylor Swift have taken the break-up song to a new level, crucifying their exes publicly — to massive success. It begs the question: When did a few cute girls’ personal burn books turn into the American songbook?  READ FULL STORY »

Alec Baldwin still joking about run-in, but photographer isn't amused -- VIDEO

With his Twitter crusade against the New York Daily News in full swing even this morning, Alec Baldwin appears to be in pretty good spirits about Tuesday’s altercation he had with a Daily News photographer. On last night’s Late Show With David Letterman, Baldwin admitted, “It looks like I’m forming the letter F with my mouth” in the front page shot of his run-in. But it’s not the F-word you think! 'Sons of Anarchy' creator just messed with the wrong motorcycle gang

Kurt Sutter is not happy that Discovery keeps calling upcoming reality series The Devils Ride a “real-life Sons of Anarchy.” And when Kurt Sutter is upset, he doesn’t stew in silence. “if DEVIL’S RIDE is gonna advertise itself as a ‘real-life SOA’ then i get to weigh in. they’re f—ing with my brand and they sure AIN’T it,” the Anarchy showrunner tweeted last night.

Sutter is notoriously outspoken on his Twitter page; previous targets of his wrath include Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, whom Sutter blamed when AMC fired Frank Darabont from The Walking Dead. (Sutter briefly quit Twitter after the resulting brouhaha.) This time, though, his comments might get him in real trouble — the kind that comes with a hospital bill.

TMZ got in touch with a “very scary” guy who goes by Sandman — a member of the motorcycle club profiled in Devils Ride — to get a response to Sutter’s comments. Here’s what the hog head had to say: “I am concerned that Kurt’s creative mind is stuck in make-believe land with his recent comment on Twitter. Here’s a reality check for ya Kurt…. I am sending a personal invitation to your pretty-faced Kurt Cobain look-alike star Jax [SOA star Charlie Hunnam] to come down to San Diego and prove your point. And tell him to wear those shiny white kicks too. I hope he’s a size 11, I could use some new shoes.”
