Merriam-Webster officially gives 'catfish' a new definition

Max and Nev are changing the world, one fake profile at a time. And now their work is more legitimate than ever. Why? Because the Merriam-Webster dictionary says so.

A catfish is no longer just “a type of fish that has a large head and long thin parts that look like a cat’s whiskers around its mouth.” According to Merriam-Webster, there’s another definition for the word, one that “refers to a person who sets up a false social networking profile for deceptive purposes.” READ FULL STORY

PopWatch Planner: 'Mindy Project,' 'Revenge' finales, 'Neighbors,' 'Chef' in theaters, and more

April showers bring May finales! OK, so that’s not exactly how the saying goes, but it is true. May is a month full of memorable goodbyes, and for this week, that includes The Tomorrow People, The Mindy Project, and Revenge. However, with Neighbors and Chef in theaters, there will be very little time for mourning.

Here’s how your week is looking: READ FULL STORY

Catfish: The TV Show react in GIF form -- Michael & Caroline, plus 'The Reunion Show'

This season’s Catfish: The TV Show, which premiered Tuesday, June 25 at 10 p.m. on MTV, features so many OMG moments that it is best to analyze each episode with equally expressive reactions. And not just text-based or still image reactions — GIF reactions.

First and foremost, I send my condolences to the family and friends of Mike Fortunato, who died on Saturday. As a fan and viewer, I appreciate that Nev and Max acknowledged his passing prior to the airing of The Reunion Show. You will be missed, Mike.

'Catfish Season 2: Last Hooks' react: Nev and Max forever

On Tuesday, Catfish‘s second season will come to a close with the sure-to-shock story of Mike and Caroline followed by a live reunion show. And although that’s good and dandy, what’s more important at the moment is what we just watched on the special, Catfish Season 2: Last Hooks. There were montages, bloopers, favorite moments, dance breaks, and even a trip to Peru. However, none of that overshadowed the absence of one silver fox named Max. Maybe it was just me, but I was genuinely hoping this special would be nothing but Nev and Max being adorable … though we did get glimpses of that. READ FULL STORY

'Catfish: The TV Show' react in GIF form -- Keyonnah and Bow Wow

This season’s Catfish: The TV Show, which premiered Tuesday, June 25 at 10 p.m. on MTV, features so many OMG moments that it is best to analyze each episode with equally expressive reactions. And not just text-based or still image reactions — GIF reactions.

There is no denying Catfish doesn’t understand its target audience. Case in point, the episode starts off with Nev, unable to control his desire to touch Max’s hair (that barber shop really did wonders for their relationship), fondles his friend’s silvery follicles, telling him to get some “flame.” There’s more than one thing flaming about this moment, or maybe I’m being too fan fiction-y.

After weeks and weeks of Nev wearing a boot for his injured foot, Max calls him out on wearing it while doing decidedly un-injured activities. (Do you think he saw Nev play American football or international football a.k.a. soccer? I wouldn’t put it past Max for being the type of American guy who calls soccer, football.) Nev dodges the question to avoid an angry phone call from an MTV producer paranoid over health insurance coverage for the Catfish star, joking, “I can’t get it off.” It’s a cute quip almost ruined by Max’s overextended fake laughter. Nev can be funny, Max, but he isn’t that funny.

Welcome back, Catfish fans! I missed Nevax on the off-week, and I’m glad we’re back. This week marks a new chapter for the series  — Masterpiece Classic presents Catfish: The TV Show. Nev attempts to class up his nondescript hotel joint,  opening the show as if he’s a real news anchor or host. Silly Nev, this isn’t real hard-hitting news, it’s Catfish! Max stops Nev’s flirtations with sophistication short, so that we can continue the show in the flashy MTV style we’ve come to know and love.

(That being said, now I’m waiting for the Downton Abbey-Catfish crossover. Has someone written that AU fanfic yet? Get on it, Internet.) READ FULL STORY
