EW's Morning Bite: And the best sound bite from last night is...

Submitted by DarkDefender:

Castle: “They were canceled over a decade ago after 12 episodes, which was 12 episodes too many.”

Beckett: “I thought you would be a fan.”

Castle: “I’m a fan of good sci-fi. Star Trek, Battlestar, that Joss Whedon show, but Nebula-9? No, it’s all phony melodrama and lifeless acting.”

–Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic), paying homage to Fillion’s previous show, Firefly, on Castle

'Castle,' 'Once Upon a Time,' 'Scandal': Which TV couple has the best music theme?

There’s some outstanding music on TV right now — the proof lies in EW’s own TV Jukebox. But not all great TV music has words, and for that proof, I ask you to listen below to three instrumental scores that I can’t seem to get out of my head. Nor would I want to.

The music cues below — from Scandal, Once Upon a Time and Castle — were all brought to my attention in the last year or so because they accompanied scenes with three of my favorite TV couples (respectively, Fitz/Olivia, Snow/Charming, and Castle/Beckett) and continue to be part of these couples’ stories in this current TV season. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every time I hear them featured over a brand new scene, they are the cherry on top of the moment.

In fact, if asked, I probably couldn’t possibly pick a favorite among them, but that said, I invite you to do so. I’m very curious which comes out on top in your book. READ FULL STORY »

'Castle' graphic novel: A five-page preview of Derrick Storm's latest adventure

Derrick Storm is back with an all-new adventure, and EW has a five-page preview!

As Castle fans know, Derrick Storm is the character created by author Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) on the show — it’s the franchise that made Castle a household name (and enabled him to afford his swanky loft).

And while the graphic novel doesn’t feature the illustrated versions of Castle, Beckett and the rest of the gang, Marvel editor Sana Amanat says fans might find Storm has more in common with Castle than we might think. “Derrick Storm is quite similar to Richard Castle: he’s clever, but awkward, silly, but loveable—and ultimately, extremely good at what he does—solving mysteries,” she says. “Clara Strike is the intense CIA agent and complicated love interest, while Carl Storm, Derrick’s father, and sidekicks Rebecca and Sassy, add great comedic moments to the story. The story keeps you intrigued and excited, while the characters keep you glued to the pages. This is as much about the espionage adventure as it is about the dynamic between these characters, which is also what makes the show so special.”

See below to check out these pages from the book, out today.

'Castle': Why I hope they keep their secret... at least for awhile

Despite my extreme excitement about this season of Castle, I have to admit, a little part of me had been worried. Prior to watching the premiere, I had heard all the right things about the season, but you just never know whether the delivery will live up to the expectations. So far, this season very much has, and I credit that largely to the decision to keep Castle and Beckett’s relationship a secret. (Though, after last night’s episode, we now know that Castle’s mom was the first to know; she claims she knew after their first hook-up!)

As last night’s episode displayed, keeping their relationship a secret has kept the couple’s at-work tension alive, much like when they were still denying their feelings for each other. Every stolen moment seems precious to them and behind every once platonic gesture — like, say, a handshake — there’s a romantic subtext.

In one moment (clip below), Beckett shared a memory about spending the day with her father at Coney Island after her mother’s funeral. These kind of stories have always endeared Beckett to Castle, and this was no exception. After finishing her story, Castle got up to exit — alone, of course, but he stopped in his tracks when Beckett asked, “So, talk tonight?” That’s when he leaned down to shake her hand with a playful, loving stare and a hint of a smile, “I can’t wait.” READ FULL STORY »

'Castle' season premiere react: Are you glad fans got what they wanted?

There’s a lot of risk involved in giving fans exactly what they want, especially when you’re talking about a romantic relationship. When shows built up the tensions between two characters, We’ve seen these things play out in both good and very, very bad ways. (Hello, Moonlighting.)

After watching tonight’s season premiere of Castle — our very first taste at how the show will deal with finally getting Castle and Beckett together in a romantic relationship — I’m confident in saying that this, so far, is a very, very good thing. READ FULL STORY »

Which on-screen couples do you want to get together in real life?

X-Files-David

Despite what gossip site Celeb Dirty Laundry writes, recently single Gillian Anderson and her ex-X-Files costar David Duchovny are probably not living together. Sure, Anderson was cagey when asked by Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine if she was dating anyone new — but that doesn’t mean we should trust the conveniently anonymous source who says she and Mulder are knocking boots.

But even if there’s no credence to this rumor, reading it still gave EW’s staffers pangs of hope. In a post-KStew-RPattz world, we may never believe in love again — or at least love between co-stars. And if Anderson and Duchovny did get together, their partnership would be the culmination of years of fervent X-Phile yearning (and countless sweaty fanfics).

Mulder and Scully aren’t the only on-screen couple we’d love to see as IRL partners.  READ FULL STORY »

'Batman: Arkham City': Watch Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, and Stana Katic play the Joker, Batman, and Talia al Ghul -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Of the many, many great things about Batman: Arkham City, hearing Mark Hamill’s lethal shriek as the Joker opposite Kevin Conroy’s commanding baritone as Batman was a welcome nostalgia bomb for anyone who spent their afternoons in the 1990s glued to Batman: The Animated Series.

To commemorate the release of the “Game of the Year” edition on May 29 — which includes all the game’s downloadable content plus the new level Harley Quinn’s Revenge — EW has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Hamill and Conroy in action for a key scene from the game. And if it’s just too unnerving to watch Luke Skywalker deliver a sinister giggle, just wait for the far more pleasant segment featuring Castle‘s Stana Katic performing as Batman paramour Talia al Ghul.
