Oh Britney Spears, you're gonna make it after all!

August-10-cosmo-coverImage Credit: Cosmopolitan magazineBritney Spears continues to quietly show some good sense. How’s that for a headline?! The young woman, somehow only 28 years old despite those seemingly endless years of drama and misery, is inside August’s Cosmopolitan magazine sounding like a reasonable mother with her kids’ best interests at heart. (On the cover, she’s wearing a black zippered bustier top and jeans that lack a good couple of inches of needed waistline material. Well, you can take the girl out of the oversexualized 1990s music videos but you can’t take the music videos out of the girl.) When asked how she would respond if her two young boys — red and round-cheeked Sean Preston and Jayden James, 4 and 3 — ever expressed a desire to follow their Mama’s calloused feet into showbiz, Spears was refreshingly blunt in her answer. “I’d lock them in their rooms until they turned 30,” she said.

Now doesn’t that just strike you as the best possible thing any beleaguered pop star/movie star/reality TV star could ever say about their unselfish hopes for their bright and shiny children? Can you imagine if years ago, when things started sliding South, Dina Lohan had just decided READ FULL STORY

Britney Spears debuts fashion line for Candie's this week

britney-spearsAfter making a major comeback with her album Circus and massive tour, it was only natural for Britney Spears to capitalize on the recent stream of success. So this week we’ll see the fruits of her labor in a different area — fashion — as she unveils a collection of clothing and accessories for Candie’s, the company for which she serves as current poster girl.

We remember Spears most fondly for her barely there get-up at the VMAs and red leather bodysuits, but Spears’ line is thankfully less costume-y. She tells InStyle.com that a slick black trench coat and studded skirt are among her favorites in the juniors’ collection. Not too shabby, Brit. Personally, I’m digging the gray leather jacket.

The line will be available in Kohl’s stores nationwide beginning Thursday but only for a limited time. Will you be checking it out? And is it safe to say that our 1990s pop princess is back in action?

Britney Spears has more Twitter followers than Ashton Kutcher.

Apparently, more people care about Britney Spears‘ love for ice cream than Ashton Kutcher‘s sleep schedule: The pop star has officially attracted more followers than the Twitter king himself. (The not-so-final score — Spears: 4,952,552; Kutcher: 4,945,544.) Ashton claims he’s not feeling down about being trumped by Spears — the actor tweeted a response while at a press junket for his upcoming film, The Killers: “2nd most pop Q ‘What do U think about Brittney having more followers than u?’ Answer ‘I don’t care. Aren’t u suppose 2B a movie reporter?'”

Here’s my question: How does one answer questions at a press junket with his head in his phone?

Erin Andrews once boogied with Darrin's Dance Grooves. What music video dance have you always wanted to learn?

One reason to love Erin Andrews just a little bit more: The ESPN correspondent/Dancing With the Stars contestant once gave a testimonial in an advertisement for Darrin’s Dance Grooves. (See the commercial after the jump.) And anyone who once yearned to learn ‘N SYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” dance automatically gets my vote! (Of course, this is coming from someone who attempted to learn Britney Spears’ “Oops…I Did It Again” dance by spending a half hour rewinding a Will & Grace episode that showed Jack teaching Grace the first steps. Oops…I wasted my time!)

Now here’s the important question: What music video dance have you always wanted to learn? Ten years ago, I somehow taught myself Christina Aguilera’s “Come On Over” using her single — which included a music video and, sadly, no belly rhinestones — and an Indigo iMac, but for whatever reason, neglected to learn Britney’s “(You Drive Me) Crazy.” Now I have an excuse to pick up Darrin’s VHS! Fuse's 'Top 20 Divas': Where's Cher, Whitney, and everyone else?

I love a diva. So when I saw that Fuse was doing a special titled Top 20 Divas earlier this evening at 6 p.m., I immediately set my DVR to record. Truly, I had no idea what I was getting into: Would this be a video countdown with commentary? A VH1-style special that features talking heads—and sometimes the divas themselves—discussing what makes these Top 20 divas so damned special? A mix of the two?

Well, come to find out, it was just literally 20 videos from divas. But, honestly, it was one of the weirdest countdowns I’ve ever seen. To start with, let’s take a look at the show’s Top 20:

Britney Spears and Russell Brand, reunited. At last?

Britney Spears took a break from helping researchers study Alzheimer’s disease to throw on a big ol’ glamour hat and flirt telepathically with Russell Brand in a new promo for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. It’s such a relief to finally figure out (two versions of) what’s going on in Britney’s head, as we’d previously assumed the transcript was more akin to that which occurs during “Homer Simpson’s undivided attention.” Is this funnier than last year’s “Elephant in the Room” promo, P-Dubs? Are you happy to have more Russell Brand on your radar than yesterday?

Britney Spears on Letterman: Making out-of-context partial nudity work

Was it a little awkward when David Letterman pitched to Britney Spears for the Top Ten List last night to see a pre-taped remote shot of the singer perched on a generic desk in a skimpy bikini? Yes. Yes, it was. Especially when the camera held on her a beat too long after the intro, presumably hoping for a lascivious “Wooo!” from an audience that seemed more puzzled than titilated. Spears was a good sport though, switching “from hip to hip while we do this,” per Dave’s joke, and hitting the right notes with a deadpan delivery of the Top Ten Ways the Country Would be Different if Britney Spears Were President, which was basically a series of “dumb blonde” jokes (“We would only invade fun places like Cabo”). Tan, svelte, funny, half-naked (the woman had TWO babies, people), full head of hair, clear eyes, crotch fairly well covered up…all in all a good showing for Le Brit. The comeback continues.

Britney Spears' video of her kids dancing to 'Toxic': Sort of adorable

Who among us has never been moved to groove by Britney Spears' "Toxic"? If you raised your hand, please stop lying. That song is an irresistible invitation to dance. And you know who is definitely not immune to that call? Britney's own sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. Just check out the clip that Britney recently posted showing the tots getting down to "Toxic" while she was rehearsing in London, below.

I'm sure others will find mean-spirited and patronizing things to say about this video — they always do with Britney, don't they? But I think it's sort of adorable. Hey, if you're growing up as Britney Spears' children, the least you can do is enjoy Mom's music every once in a while. Also, now we know at last who did the choreography for Britney's 2007 VMAs performance. (Sorry! Couldn't resist one piece of snark.) What do you think of this clip?

Clip du jour (part 2): 'If U Seek Amy' in ASL

Tributes and home-grown music videos are nothing new, but it seems like there’s a new boom in American Sign Language performances of pop songs. Meme alert!

I tried to resist the draw of "If U Seek Amy," but I couldn’t.
