CBS' new drama 'Unforgettable:' Could it be the next 'Bones' or 'Castle'?

Take a strong female lead, throw in a love/hate relationship with her partner and a couple of good crime cases and you’ve got yourself the next hit series. Am I right? Well, maybe.

Last night, CBS debuted Unforgettable, a new procedural that has some key ingredients in common with the likes of Bones and Castle. Whether that turns out to be a good thing or not is up for debate (and we will debate!), but first let’s breakdown the premiere episode. READ FULL STORY »

Fall TV survival guide: How to navigate life with your newly jam-packed schedule

Now that you’re armed with our Fall TV Preview double issue, it’s time to hit the ground running. And by hit the ground running, we of course mean settling in for a lot of television viewing from the comfort of your couch. Still, we realize this can all be pretty overwhelming. After all, for as much television as we consumed over the summer — from Big Brother to True Blood — the viewing schedule wasn’t nearly as jam-packed as it soon will be. (Plus, we even went outside from time to time!) With the premieres of all the new and returning programs just days away, now is the time to get ready. (If you’re far behind on a series, like say, The Good Wife or Community or The Vampire Diaries, you’d better start watching those DVDs to catch up riiiiight… NOW!) But, don’t fret, dear PopWatchers, we’re here to help. After all, you’ll need to outwit, outplay, and outlast all of life’s distractions so you don’t miss a moment of Survivor. Here now, a fall television survival guide:

Find a buddy: Why do we watch TV? To talk about it the next day, of course! Like in college when you’d take classes with a pal and take turns attending so you could exchange notes (which this writer totally never engaged in, just knew people who did), you’ll need a partner through the fall TV season. Shack up with your quirky pals to watch New Girl together or have weekly gatherings to discuss who your favorite contestant is on X Factor. Either way, you can’t do this alone. READ FULL STORY »

'Covert Affairs': Are Auggie and Annie the new Booth and Brennan, Castle and Beckett -- only less frustrating?

Christopher-Gorham

On this week’s Covert Affairs, we learned more than our individual tolerance of jazz when Auggie traveled to Istanbul for a music festival, and how convenient it was that he made friends with a trusting, game, forward flight attendant who could help him track the traitor/terrorist who blinded him with a bomb in Iraq in 2007. We found out that Auggie had never told anyone what happened with his special forces unit until he spilled all to Annie over a round (or two, or three) of beer. That end scene reminded me of something we’d see on Bones, which made me wonder if Auggie and Annie are my new Booth and Brennan. I thought back to a recent conversation with Christopher Gorham, who said that while most fans he’s heard from want Auggie and Annie together at some point, the majority of them are for waiting. “[T]hey agree with me that if that’s going to happen, it needs to happen a long, long time from now,” he said. “Most of what makes those pairings so much fun is the potential, the flirting, the missed opportunities. That’s what’s so exciting. If you go there too soon, you let the air out of the balloon.”

As someone who’s seen every episode of Bones with six seasons of sexual tension that needed to be acted on, watching a series that allows you to enjoy some chemistry but not feel the desire to force it is just so… pleasant. Because Covert Affairs doesn’t revolve around their relationship alone, what with Annie usually out in the field and Auggie at his desk, we accept that their friendship will naturally deepen at a slower pace.  READ FULL STORY »

'Bones': Is the Finder someone you'd watch every week (if he's shirtless)?

the-finder

Last night’s episode of Bones introduced “The Finder” Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults), a former military policeman who did two tours in Iraq and returned with brain damage that made him suspicious of everything and everyone — but also able to find anything and anyone because of it (or so he believes). The character could front a new Fox show this fall, alongside his legal adviser/bodyguard Leo (Michael Clarke Duncan) and bartender/pilot/systems analyst Ike (Saffron Burrows). Are you rooting for him? READ FULL STORY »

'Bones': Booth and 'Finder' Walter Sherman get reacquainted -- Watch here!

The April 21 “Finder” episode of Bones serves as a backdoor pilot for a potential Fox fall series centered on Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults), a former military policeman who believes brain damage that he suffered in Iraq hasn’t just made him freakishly paranoid, but also gave him a preternatural ability to locate anything — or anyone. Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) travel to Florida to solve the murder of a maritime museum security guard, and once there, Booth suggests they call on Walter to help find a stolen treasure map. As you can tell from our first look at Walter in action, he and Booth have a history. The scene also introduces Walter’s associates: Leo Knox (Michael Clarke Duncan), who serves as his legal advisor, bodyguard, and best friend; and Ike Latulippe (Saffron Burrows), the badass who drives the boats, flies the planes, and owns The Ends of the Earth, the bar they call their headquarters. TV's Most Dateable Characters: Choose your 'one' from readers' top picks (Poll!)

Dateable-charactersImage Credit: Greg Gayne/NBC; Justin Lubin/NBC; Brian Bowen Smith/Fox; Mitchell Haaseth/NBC; Bob D'Amico/ABC (2)Last week, PopWatch asked readers to name the TV character they’d date in real life. After tallying more than 2,000 nominations (yes, we read them all), we’re ready to take it to a vote. We’ve put your top picks — 25 men, and 29 women (there was a tie for that last spot) — in two polls below. Vote now through Tuesday at midnight ET. Come back Friday when we’ll reveal the results. Remember: You can’t change anything about the character you’re picking, other than that he or she will no longer have feelings for his or her show love interest. (Second rule: Do not feel guilty.) Note: The order the characters are listed in the polls below is how they ranked during the first round, when you could be indecisive. What will happen when you can only pick one?  READ FULL STORY »

'Bones' proposal: Who cried?

Bones-Dare-devil-In-MoldenImage Credit: Ray Mickshaw/FoxSPOILER ALERT: Last night’s episode of Bones was the one many fans have been waiting for — Hannah turned down Booth’s marriage proposal because she’s “just not the marrying kind.” Booth, understandably, took it hard, and David Boreanaz took his character to places we had not seen before. How about that look Booth gave Hannah when she asked him to pretend the proposal and refusal never happened? That is the closest Seeley Booth will ever come to wanting to strike a woman. 'Bones' proposal episode: How screwed is Hannah?

Bones-613Image Credit: Ray Mickshaw/FoxDespite Bones producers (and writers) repeatedly telling us how much Brennan likes Booth’s girlfriend Hannah — which means we should, too — a large portion of the audience has never warmed to the character. That makes tonight’s episode, in which Booth and Sweets decide in the opening booze-filled scene to propose to each of their girlfriends, particularly interesting. Assuming Booth does end up popping the question, Hannah will be damned if she says “I do” and, perhaps, damned if she doesn’t. (Why wouldn’t she want to marry our Seeley?) How do you hope this plays out? And how do you think this plays out?  READ FULL STORY »
