Zach Galifianakis gets a little too real with Brad Pitt on 'Between Two Ferns'

Zach Galifianakis really went for it with Brad Pitt in a new segment of Between Two Ferns.

The Webby Awards: And the winners are...

This past September, Jimmy Kimmel revealed that he was behind that video of innocent twerking gone horribly wrong — and now he’s winning an award for it.

On Monday morning, the Webbys announced the winners of this year’s 18th annual competition. Each year, judges from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences — including Netflix star Kevin Spacey — gather together to select the best of the best internet-related achievements, ranging from viral videos to movie streaming services.

'Between Two Ferns' director Scott Aukerman on how they got Obama to laugh at himself

Say what you want about his politics, but President Obama definitely has a sense of humor.

The leader of the free world appeared on Funny or Die’s Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis to promote the Affordable Care Act, and EW talked with director/producer Scott Aukerman, who co-created the series in 2008, about filming in the White House, Obama’s improv skills, and how they thought the whole thing wasn’t going to happen until the last minute.

The viral video has already racked up more than 6 million views in less than one day on the Funny or Die website. Aukerman was on a plane Tuesday morning and was shocked to see such a large reaction right away. “That’s super nuts! It’s hard to imagine 6 million people watching something in less than six hours,” Aukerman told EW. “How many people are there in the country though? 300 million? We still got a little ways to go.” Aukerman and Galifianakis had been chasing down Obama as a Ferns guest for years, hoping he would follow in the footsteps of Bradley Cooper, Justin Bieber, Natalie Portman, and Michael Cera, among others, who have all appeared on the show. Rumors from the White House that Obama may be interested in doing something “like this” circulated, but nothing ever came of it. “There was a series of false alarms,” Aukerman said.

In July, Aukerman and a group of Funny or Die creators met with Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett with the intention of creating viral videos to promote the Affordable Care Act. Aukerman suggested again that Ferns would be a perfect opportunity for Obama and his platform but didn’t hear anything until just three weeks ago. “They said if it were ever to happen, it would be now so start preparing.” Aukerman and Galifianakis were still suspicious that the shoot would get canceled again, even after a specific date and time was set and plane tickets had been purchased for D.C. It wasn’t until the pair were actually in the White House when it finally hit them. “I think this might actually be filmed!” Aukerman joked to Galifianakis at the time. “I remember I stood outside that building when I was 13. I never thought I would be invited in and meet the President.” READ FULL STORY

President Obama visits 'Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis' -- VIDEO

The most important meeting President Obama ever takes might be on Funny or Die’s Between Two Ferns.

In the clip, host Zach Galifianakis apologizes for canceling on the President earlier — Galifianakis’ mouse pad broke and he had to buy a pair of diabetic shoes for his aunt —  but thankfully, their schedules finally aligned. Watch their sit down below. READ FULL STORY

'Don't forget Kwanzaa!': Samuel L. Jackson, Tobey Maguire on the 'Between Two Ferns' Christmas Spectacular -- VIDEO

It’s time for the “Happy Holidays edition of Between Two Ferns!” For his 2013 Christmas Spectacular, Zach Galifianakis welcomed guests “Samue L. Jack’s Son” and “Toby,” better known as Samuel L. Jackson and Tobey Maguire.

The interview itself didn’t focus as much on holiday questions as it did Jackson’s career choices — namely Turbo and Snakes on a Plane — and Maguire’s, well, he was there. However, in the spirit of Christmas, Galifianakis did give them both a gift: A copy of his film The Campaign, which Maguire autographed and gave back.

And to top off a successful show, Galifianakis welcomed Arcade Fire to sing “Little Drummer Boy.”

'Between Two Ferns': Zach Galifianakis gives Justin Bieber a stern talking to -- VIDEO

If every joke contains a grain of truth, then the following video is a veritable rice paddy.

Okay, that was a stupid analogy. But still: Zach Galifianakis really doesn’t pull any punches while interviewing Justin Bieber for the latest episode of “Between Two Ferns.” He starts out by telling Bieber how exciting it is to have him on the show, “especially right in the middle of [Bieber’s] public meltdown” — and things only get more brutally honest from there. Here’s a sampling of the Hangover star’s outrageous follow-up questions, all of which are  greeted with stony silence from Bieber:

“When you’re in the recording studio, do you ever think ‘Hey, what if I don’t make something sh—y?'”

“You’ve had three hairstyles. What’s next for your career?”

James Franco visits 'Between Two Ferns,' interrupted by new Lonely Island song -- VIDEO

Between Two Ferns, Zach Galifianakis’ Funny or Die talk show, is known for getting a little weird. So it certainly wasn’t a surprise when James Franco dropped by and things took an odd turn. Galifianakis started by asking him some standard insulting questions. “Of all the art projects you’ve done, what has made people roll their eyes the hardest?” “127 Hours — is that how many hours you look in the mirror per day?” Franco played along with his trademark low-energy that was most famously on display at the Oscars (which he did in fact host, despite what Galifianakis says).

But after belittling Franco for a few minutes, the chat was interrupted by the Lonely Island guys, who’ve got a new song to drop (featuring Franco). It’s about spring breakkkkk — but also marriage equality. Two things that naturally go together, provided you don’t think about it too hard. Plus, Edward Norton!

'Between Two Ferns' Oscar Special: Things get weird with Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, and more -- VIDEO

Zach Galifianakis’ interview series “Between Two Ferns”  just got super-duper star-studded!

As you all eagerly await Oscar night, Galifianakis grabs the buzziest Oscar stars and asks the questions that would make Barbara Walters green with envy. Highlights: Anne Hathaway sings “Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyoncé, Jennifer Lawrence does not like getting played off, Christoph Waltz wants to avoid talking about his Mein Kampf tattoo, and Amy Adams says a pretty NSFW line with great conviction.

'Between Two Ferns' goes big time: Zach Galifianakis jousts with Tina Fey and Jon Stewart

For fans of Between Two Ferns, the hilarious bite-sized webisodes in which a passive-aggressive version of Zach Galifianakis awkwardly interviews quickly chagrined celebrities, the promise of a full-length television episode threatened to be almost too much of a good thing. Would Comedy Central, which aired the special last night before The Comedy Awards, ruin the low-rent vibe of the show by throwing millions of Viacom dollars at the funnyman? And could the show hold up over the course of a half hour, rather than the quick four-minute hits that have so delighted you during your lunch break.

Have no fear, Ferners. Though Galifianakis sported a tuxedo and a new high-rise set, and modeled the show after one of Oprah or Barbara Walters’ pre-Oscar specials to celebrate “entertainment’s biggest night, the second annual Comedy Awards,” Between Two Ferns: A Fairytale of New York was as antagonistic and hilarious as ever. Watch the clip of his interview with “absentee mother” Tina Fey below, as well as bits of his time with Jon Stewart and Sir Richard Branson: READ FULL STORY
