Throwback Thursday: O-Town's reunion and the 7 dirtiest boy band songs -- VIDEO

Word broke earlier this week that O-Town — the One Direction of the aughts, except less cute and not nearly as famous — is plotting a reunion. (Okay, an almost-reunion; frontman Ashley Parker Angel, the group’s answer to Harry Styles/Clone High guest star extraordinaire, is apparently out of the band. So much for “all or nothing at all.”)

This is great news, primarily for one reason: It gives us all a chance to reexamine “Liquid Dreams,” which has to be the grossest thing to come out of the late ’90s/early ’00s boy band boom. (Besides Chris Kirkpatrick’s hair.)

Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys may do a reunion tour -- Your dreams are coming true!

Something that has quickly skyrocketed to number one in the History of Good Ideas: the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys maybe joining forces for a reunion tour, according to MTV UK. If you are now screaming in your office cubicle, welcome to my life fifteen minutes ago. ZOMG, I would pay untold sums for a ticket to see the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys in concert. (Granted, I really wish I could rewind life and see them as they were ten years ago, but I’ll take what I can get.) We have not heard back from the bandmembers’ reps with a confirmation of this good news, but fingers crossed it’s true.

The current status of the bands don’t exactly scream reunion tour, but it’s not a definitive “no” either. The Backstreet Boys will be doing shows around North America this summer for their “In A World Like This” tour with Avril Lavigne listed as a special guest. Not to mention the Backstreet Boys Cruise, which sails from Miami to Half Moon Cay in October. (Yes, they absolutely wear sailor outfits.) The Spice Girls had their last group show at the London Olympics in 2012. After that performance, Victoria Beckham put the kibosh on any future performances in an interview with Vanity Fair Italy, saying the Olympics was the “perfect time to say, ‘That’s great. Thank you to everybody, but no more.'”

But let’s dream a little dream here and say they do go on a joint tour, what do we want to see at this show?

It's Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson's birthday: Your mother reacts

Today, the eldest Backstreet Boy, Kevin Richardson, turns 42, and in honor of his birthday, I got his biggest fan on the phone: Entertainment Weekly readers, meet my 53-year-old mother, Donna Highfill. She’s the woman who taught me that Robert Redford was what people call “sexy,” and she also opened my eyes to what a “good kisser” was on the big screen. Among the men she loves are Johnny Depp, Michael Cudlitz, and, of course, Kevin Richardson.

As a child of the ’90s, I loved the Backstreet Boys basically from the moment I was born. And when my mom took me to a concert at age 10, I screamed my lungs out when we saw the band’s bus drive by and Brian waved at me. And just moments later, my mother screamed her lungs out when she spotted Kevin. It was then that I realized that I might love BSB more, but my mother loves Kevin more.

Now, 13 years later, my mother and I are still attending BSB concerts — we went to one in August — and so when I found out today was Kevin’s birthday, I wanted to see how my mother, who’s really your mother, feels about the joyous occasion:

On the 15th anniversary of the 'TRL' premiere, a look back at the first top 10

For anybody who did not live through the peak of MTV’s Total Request Live, it’s difficult to understand just how important that show was to pop culture. Every day after school, TRL host Carson Daly would not only unveil the 10 most-requested videos of the day, but he would also interview movie stars, call his celebrity friends, and facilitate awkward exchanges between unlikely bedfellows. Before everybody cared about tween culture, TRL was the center of that universe.

It was also the last time MTV was truly committed to music videos. Though as time went on they showed less and less of the videos on the countdown, the early run of TRL featured full clips in all their glory, and for some of the most definitive acts of the late video era—including Eminem, Backstreet Boys, Blink 182, and Britney Spears—it was the only place to catch their work (remember, this is in the era before video on the Internet was a viable option).

But before all the Mariah Carey ice cream drop-ins and Tom Green-related conspiracies, it had to start with the first episode of Total Request Live, which aired on this day in 1998. It was a hybrid of two shows—MTV Live and Total Request—that had been running intermittently. The first show didn’t have a live studio audience, but it did have Daly’s low-key charisma and 10 great videos. On the 15th anniversary of the show’s premiere, let’s take a look back at the inaugural top 10. READ FULL STORY

Boy Band Battle -- Results: And the greatest boy band of all-time is ...

I would start this post with “Backstreet’s back, alright!” but here’s the thing: They never left (hence the album titled Never Gone). The boys have been a part of our lives for the past 20 years, and now, after a week of debating the many factors that make up a good boy band — the look, the music videos, the dance moves, the vocal ability, and the live performance — it’s official: You all have named the Backstreet Boys as the greatest boy band of all-time.

The Boys started strong, beating out Boyz II Men, New Kids on the Block, New Edition, NSYNC and One Direction for Best Group Appearance (with 42% of the vote) on the first day of Boy Band Battles. On Day 2, they dominated Best Music Videos with 46% of the vote. They crushed the Best Dancers category with 65% of the vote, and continued their domination with Best Vocal Moments (50%) and Best Live Performances (39%).

So now, let us celebrate by discussing our favorite things about AJ, Brian, Kevin, Nick, and Howie: READ FULL STORY

Boy Band Battle -- Day 5: Which group has the best live performances?

Between NSYNC reuniting (however briefly) and the One Direction documentary hitting theaters this weekend, EW’s PopWatch is getting a serious wave of nostalgia—and the urge to revive one of the most important debates: What is the all-time greatest boy band?

Any good fan girl (or guy!) knows this debate is about so much more than just the hits; there’s things like group appearance, harmonies, music videos and dance moves to consider. While an EW writer will be advocating for each, the final decision is up to you. Each day a band wins the vote, they’ll receive a point. At the end of a week, whichever band has the most points will be declared EW’s Ultimate Boy Band.

Yesterday, Backstreet Boys beat out the others for Best Vocals (Harmonizing). Will it be a clean sweep for Nick, Brian, Howie, AJ and Kevin? The final category is Best Live Performance. Check back on Tuesday for the final results.  READ FULL STORY
