Amanda Seyfried on 'Mean Girls' musical: 'I desperately want to be Regina'

When we heard the rumors around a Mean Girls musical, we immediately started casting the parts. But one thing we didn’t account for was the idea that Amanda Seyfried might not want to reprise her role as Karen.

After all, what about Karen would make Seyfried not want to play her? She’s pretty. She doesn’t have to think, like, ever. She gets to wear pink on Wednesdays. She has ESPN, and her boobs can predict the weather. Or rather, her boobs can tell you about the current weather conditions. So why would Seyfried want to walk away from the character who first put her on our radar? The temptation of the dark side, perhaps? READ FULL STORY »

That is so fetch: Tina Fey wants Mariah Carey for 'Mean Girls' musical -- We cast other characters

While talking to E! Online on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, Tina Fey mentioned that she thought Mariah Carey could star in her Mean Girls musical. (She told EW of her plans to turn her hit film into a musical back in our September cover story.)

“Maybe she can play Amy Poehler’s part,” Fey joked, after discussing Mariah’s knowledge of the film.

Mariah Carey as Mrs. George? She certainly has the singing voice for the role. But who else would we cast in our perfect production of Mean Girls? READ FULL STORY »

Amanda Seyfried admits she's drunk on 'Letterman' -- VIDEO

How does Amanda Seyfried keep herself from feeling misérable while doing press? One word: booze.

During an appearance on the Late Show last night, the Les Mis star explained that while filming the musical, she and her castmates had to live “like monks” in order to protect their voices. That meant constant water guzzling, early bedtimes, and most importantly, no drinking. Now, though, all bets are off: “I’m pretty drunk,” she told David Letterman matter-of-factly when he asked if she’d had a tipple before coming on the show.

Wait, seriously? Yes — as their chat continued, it seemed pretty apparent that Seyfried was, in fact, pretty tipsy. When you’re that tiny and down three glasses of whiskey, the alcohol’s effects have to be fairly strong.

For what’s already shaping up to be one of the most celebrity-driven Tony Awards telecasts ever (Neil Patrick Harris! James Earl Jones! John Lithgow! Others!), the American Theatre Wing has just announced its first batch of presenters that will appear on the June 10 ceremony to dole out Broadway’s most prestigious honorifics.

The list does a surprisingly good job of spanning stage and screen (both small and silver), including names like Nick Jonas, Amanda Seyfried, Tyler Perry, Jessica Chastain, Jim Parsons, Paul Rudd, Ellen Barkin, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Candice Bergen, Christopher Plummer, James Marsden, Mandy Patinkin, Sheryl Crow, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

More celebrity presenters are expected to be announced in the coming week, as well as a full list of the scheduled performances from this year’s crop of musicals. The Tony Awards air on Sunday, June 10 on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
