'West Wing' cast reunites to promote White House's Big Block of Cheese Day

Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of the White House, had a big block of cheese. Rather than stinking up the current White House, President Barack Obama is offering a virtual block of cheese, and he’s enlisted the cast of The West Wing to help promote it.

We live-blogged it: The People's Choice Awards

Mom stars Allison Janney and Anna Faris hosted Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards, a CBS show that annually honors performers for their work in the worlds of music, TV, and filmand we recapped it live throughout its two-hour broadcast.

Janney and Faris were charming as usual, Chris Pratt made a cameo, and Jared Leto’s hair extensions showed up. Check out the live blog below, and see here for the complete winner’s list.

'Mom': The highs and lows of season 1

Allison Janney adds a touch of greatness to anything she’s in — Masters of Sex, The West Wing, the Mandy Moore classic How to Deal. So it’s no surprise that Janney shines in CBS sitcom Mom, created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, and Gemma Baker.

Janney’s Bonnie plays mom to Christy (Anna Faris), who plays mom to pregnant teen Violet and adorable 9-year-old Roscoe. Much of the show hinges on Bonnie and Christy’s tumultuous relationship, but the two get along rather nicely in last night’s season finale — probably because they have bigger problems to worry about, i.e. Alvin’s heart attack and Violet’s water breaking.

Jeremy Jordan sings 'Let It Go' from 'Frozen' at Miscast gala honoring Allison Janney -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

On March 31, New York’s MCC Theater held its raucous Miscast gala, an annual fundraiser honoring one veteran theater artist — this year, the fearless Allison Janney — with a concert program line-up that features Broadway stars performing songs typically sung by the opposite gender. Last year, you might remember Jeremy Jordan and Jonathan Groff stopping the show with Smash’s “Let Me Be Your Star.” This year was no different, but we’ll get to that. First, Janney. READ FULL STORY

Stars reveal their criminally underrated entertainment picks

Everyone — stars included — has that one show or movie they believe hasn’t received the attention it deserves. EW asked some celebrities, ranging from director John Waters to actress Allison Janney, what shows or movies they think are criminally underrated. Here’s what they said:

Allison Janney busts out 'The Jackal' for Arsenio Hall

In the summer comedy The Way Way Back, Allison Janney played a sauced mom who leaks TMI, and in the new CBS sitcom Mom, Janney plays another poor role-model mother who’s a recovered addict. But Janney will forever be known for the most sober of characters, President Bartlet’s press secretary and chief of staff C.J. Cregg on The West Wing. Fans of that Aaron Sorkin show will recall the season 1 episode where the White House staff gathers at the end of a long day of walk-and-talks to watch Cregg’s performance of Ronny Jordan’s 1993 song, ‘The Jackal’ — a jazzy, whispery rap that the actress had mastered in her downtime during the show that has since become a secret-handshake of sorts for those who love Janney, Cregg, and The West Wing.

When Janney recently signed on to Twitter, White House press secretary Jay Carney welcomed her to the site by asking her to teach him how to do “The Jackal.” If he was watching Arsenio Hall last night, he received a free lesson. Janney slinked and slanked on to the host’s lap to perform a sensual rendition of the song. Watch it below. READ FULL STORY

'The Way, Way Back' stars Steve Carell and Allison Janney take the EW Pop Culture Personality Test

In The Way, Way Back, a coming-of-age tale about insecure teens and their sometimes-flawed adult influences, Steve Carell and Allison Janney play a few of most ill-equipped authority ever to befall a group of children. Janney’s character Betty teases her own son for having a lazy eye while Carell’s Trent does all he can to undermine his girlfriend’s son. Thankfully, Carell and Janney are nothing like their characters.

The two actors graciously agreed to be subjected to EW’s Pop Culture Personality Test, and they proved to be as charming and witty as you might expect. Check out the video after the jump to hear Janney rant about Game of Thrones (with some season 3 spoilers!), and Carell reminisce about the hockey moment that made him cry.
