'Stars in Danger: The High Dive': tWitch and Shout with Antonio Sabato Jr. in a speedo

My esteemed colleague Mandi Bierly and I just sat through two hours of “celebrity” diving and can officially break this staggering news: Stephen “tWitch” Boss wore way too many clothes on So You Think You Can Dance. Nice shot, Fox! Well done. It’s a hit. READ FULL STORY »

'Fifty Shades of Grey' parody musical coming to N.Y.

FIFTY-SHADES-OF-GREY

Break out your bondage wear and grab your girlfriends – Fifty Shades is coming to the stage.

A Fifty Shades of Grey parody musical, 50 Shades! The Musical, is coming to New York at the Gramercy Theatre this weekend, after a popular run in Chicago last month. The show is written and performed by the Chicago-based improv group Baby Wants Candy, which boasts alums such as Rachel Dratch and Aidy Bryant.

According to the NY Post, “The opening scene centers on a middle-aged ladies’ book group, then plunges, like a cougar’s neckline, into sketches making fun of the erotic, best-selling novel.” The show comes complete with a live band and 11 original songs, including “They Get Nasty” and ““I Don’t Make Love, I “F#*!,” per the Post. James Franco lip-syncs to Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' -- VIDEO

James Franco…teen pop aficionado?

The latest chapter in the saga of Being James Franco involves the multi-hyphenate entertainer portraying Justin Bieber and lip-syncing his way through “Boyfriend,” along with an assist from rumored-girlfriend and Spring Breakers co-star Ashley Benson.

The best part of all of this is that this isn’t the first time Franco has lip-synced to teen hits. Earlier, he swapped out the Bieber wig for cornrows and did his best impression of Bieber’s sometimes-girlfriend Selena Gomez’s song, “Love You Like A Love Song.” Gomez also stars in Spring Breakers with Franco.

The video starts out as “harmless” fun with Franco looking like he’s having a genuinely goofy time impersonating the Biebs. It then takes a real creepy twist right around 2:20, when another girl (Who is it?) shows up and starts grinding on a bed with Benson. I think? There are a lot of bad wigs happening. Description of the video? “He deleted it but it was too late.”

Form your own opinion and check out the Bieber wannabe below: READ FULL STORY »

'The Bachelor' premiere: 'It was literally, like, an animal attack on the eyeballs'

Well, maybe not literally. Not even figuratively, really. Perhaps you’ll disagree, rose lovers, but I’d say that the premiere of The Bachelor: If These Abs Could Talk was a relatively catfight-free affair. And that’s okay by me. Sure, some of the “ladies” were upset by the “surprise” return of a previous contestant, while others got their panties in a bunch about Sean’s unorthodox method for handing out the roses, but — and I may live to eat these words — it seems like maybe possibly there just might be some women of the non-heinous variety vying for Sean’s heart this season. (Not that woman who’s obsessed with 50 Shades of Grey, of course. She’s just straight-up sad.) Stay tuned for my full recap later tonight (UPDATE: Click to see Kristen’s full Bachelor season premiere recap and Chris Harrison’s Bachelor blog), but in the meantime, don’t be shy — tell me what you thought about night one of Sean’s “journey.” How’d you feel about that weird Arie segment? Does Sean have some kind of preternatural attraction to women named Ashley? Did your head explode when you saw that there was not one, but FOUR African-American contestants this time around? Post your thoughts now!

'Marvin the Martian' & 'Hong Kong Phooey': First look at two possibly dead movies

A moment of silence, please, for Alex Zamm’s Marvin the Martian and Hong Kong Phooey movies. The Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 director was attached to helm CGI-live action hybrid adaptations of both properties; Mike Myers was rumored to star in the former, while Eddie Murphy was attached to star in the latter.

Now, though, it’s looking increasingly like neither one will ever be completed. Marvin was originally supposed to hit theaters in December of 2011. Hong Kong, meanwhile, hasn’t seemed to make much progress since Murphy’s deal was announced 16 months ago.

And now that Zamm has posted test footage from both movies online, their never-to-be-finished status seems sealed. In Hong Kong Phooey‘s case, that might be a good thing — the clip Zamm uploaded features tired toilet humor that even Murphy (or a talented Murphy impersonator, as the case may be in this video) couldn’t sell. Marvin the Martian, though, seems a little more promising; its clip is a self-contained short that opens up plenty of possibilities for a full-length feature. Take a look at both and judge for yourself:

The year in nostalgia: Reboots, sequels, comebacks, and callbacks to a simpler time

There’s nothing new under the sun — which is just the way Millennials like it.

We’re a generation obsessed with our own recent past, as befits the children of Boomers. Our influence on the entertainment industry is also increasing as we grow older. That’s probably why 2012 was the year that a collective nostalgia for pop culture from the ’90s and even the early ’00s hit in full force. Sure, the year also featured its share of projects inspired by/cribbing from the ’80s or even earlier — we learned it by watching you, Generation X! — but generally speaking, a yearning for the days of Boy Meets World, Titanic, and the Spice Girls has supplanted a yearning for the days of Growing Pains, Journey, and The Breakfast Club.

Here’s a month-by-month rundown of 2012′s most nostalgia-driven moments, from announcements of sequels and reboots to random late night comedy bits. (Tom Hanks recited a slam poem about what?) Though it’s pretty ’90s heavy, even non-Millennials should find something here they get a kick out of — or something that makes them righteously furious. (For many nostalgia hounds, the two go hand in hand.)

It also got the Buckhannans a short spot on the Today show this morning:

Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal, and Jerry Seinfeld revive 'Who's on First?' -- VIDEO

How about that — the world hasn’t ended yet after all!

To celebrate, let’s gather ’round our warm, comforting computer screens and watch a clip that evokes a simpler time — namely, this bit from last night’s Jimmy Fallon, in which Fallon enlists a few of his famous friends to help him perform Abbott and Costello’s classic play-on-words baseball bit “Who’s on First?” (The not-as-famous folk in the video are Fallon announcer Steve Higgins as Costello and Fallon head writer A.D. Miles as What.)

Cut 'SNL' bit skewers 'Elf on the Shelf' -- 'I'm a little friggin' narc!' VIDEO

Ever been creeped out by the lyrics to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”? (You know who else sees you when you’re sleeping? Murderers.) If so, you may enjoy this cut SNL bit — in which a shrunken Bobby Moynihan plays an Elf on the Shelf, the seasonal sprite who exists solely to tattle on kids so that they won’t get any Christmas presents. In the elf’s words: “I’m a little snitch, Seth, and I love it!”

The segment may not have been strong enough to make it past Saturday’s dress rehearsal — but the video is totally worth watching, if only for Moynihan’s joyous flailing and infectious “weeeee!!”s. Plus, he’ll probably get a cut of gummi worms for every view — and you wouldn’t want to deprive the guy of candy, would you?

YouTube reveals top 10 viral clips of 2012 -- VIDEO

The main takeaway from this list of 2012′s most viral YouTube clips? The days of “Charlie Bit My Finger” and “David After Dentist” are over.

Only one of these 10 videos — “Facebook Parenting” — was made by an average Joe; the other nine were all professionally produced. “There are more and more people who know how to build an audience, how to use YouTube,” YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca explained to the Wall Street Journal. “There are companies who spend millions and millions of dollars trying to do create these videos.”

So yeah, that’s kind of horribly depressing. But watching these videos might cheer you up — even if many of the entries won’t surprise you at all. (Spoiler alert: Yes, Virginia, “Gangnam Style” made No. 1.)
