Clip du Jour: 'The Soup''s 'Real World' Guide to Girls

"The real New York is on the other side of the bridge." Or at least that's what the producers of The Real World: Brooklyn want me to believe. If by "real New York" they mean the Ikea, I'll buy it. Either way, the reality series responsible for bringing Eric Nies' abs, Puck's snot rockets, and something called "The Miz" into the public consciousness kicks off its 21st season tonight. In case you haven't watched television since the early '90s, here's a reminder from The Soup's Joel McHale about what you can expect from the show's looney ladies, starring Real World: Denver's Brooke and Colie.

I went to college with Colie. And let me tell you...she is an effing idiot.

I agree that this show has gotten worse and worse. I watched it from '94 to '00 and I believe that was the year it got ridiculous. It just became a show where everyone slept with everyone else, they got drunk and fought. I mean at least the earlier shows gave them something to do, create a business, work in a community center, etc.

The show has lost its mojo a long time ago. I think 'San Diego' was the last season I really watched. I might just be getting older, but the people seem more insufferable every season. Man, 1992(the 1st real world in New York) seems like a looooong time ago. I wonder what Julie and Heather B are up too? Hmmmmm

"If by "real New York" they mean the Ikea." Hilarious. Friends who live in Red Hook (the Brooklyn neighborhood where they're living) have said that the locals have been VERY unkind to the cast members, to put it lightly. Apparently people are throwing things at them on the street and not letting them into bars. Cannot WAIT to see how MTV manages to spin that...
