'NCIS' soundtrack: Will you buy it?

NCIS has been an absolute ratings beast this season -- the show has been averaging a whopping 17.3 million viewers -- so it's no wonder that CBS is trying to capitalize on all that audience enthusiasm with an official soundtrack album. The two-disc set, which hits stores on Feb. 10, will include new music from Jakob Dylan, Dashboard Confessional, Ministry, and a bunch of random rockers. There's also a rare Oasis cut and that awesome Bob Dylan song that won an Oscar in 2000, among other things. Woo! Anyway, fans of the procedural will probably be most psyched to see that two of its stars, Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva David), are each singing a song.

Now, I love TV, and I love music, but personally, I've never really understood the whole TV soundtrack album phenomenon. I can't think of an example that's included more than one or two essential tracks. But c'mon and set me straight, NCIS watchers. Are you going to pick this one up? Or have you ever bought and enjoyed another TV soundtrack?

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://carpet-cleaning.emenace.com/autobiogc4/28.html 2007 carpet globe golden red undefined

I looked at the lineup here and the cool thing is they have unreleased tracks from almost all of the artists. Most usually have stuff that has been out before. I like the show and what they have put together. I am going to get it!

NavyResGirl Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 12:01 PM EST

Count me in. I'll definitely be adding it to my CD collection.

Shauna Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 05:34 PM EST

Rescue Me soundtrack. All of the songs are GREAT. Stereophonics, Black Keys, Our Lady Peace, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Wolf Parade, Ray LaMontagne...It's a must have.

Angela Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 04:34 PM EST

I have the Veronica Mars, all of the Buffy ones and Grey's Antomy. I am always looking for the music I hear on certain shows. I hope Cold Case puts one out. I always look at their playlists on the website.

Nicole Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 04:16 PM EST

I have the soundtracks for the first 4 seasons of House. Absolutely fantastic!
Includes Lucinda Williams "Are You Alright" and Jeff Buckley "Hallelujah".

ashley Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:18 PM EST

One Tree Hill has put out some awesome soundtracks. That show features great music!

Joe S Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:58 AM EST

The Scrubs soundtrack is great (even though it only covers Season 1 and the very beginning of Season 2. Also the Weeds Season 1 soundtrack is awesome. The song choices are really eclectic, but totally appropriate for the show. Great for a long drive.

Jen Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 10:56 AM EST

I love the "Veronica Mars" soundtrack.

Michelle Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 10:50 AM EST

I'm getting it; it's already preordered. I've got the soundtracks for Buffy, Angel, Firefly, House, Bones, Smallville, The OC and Grey's Anatomy. I LOVE TV soundtracks!

nathfromfrance Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 09:39 AM EST

nathfromfrance Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 09:38 AM EST

Hi im nathalie from France a huge Mister Harmon fan.
http://mharmon4ever2.skyrock.com :D
i looooove the long version of the ncis theme by numeriklab!!!!!! wow!!! and i love the dashboard confessional and teh blue october ones but thanks to NCIS now i know and love !!!
In France we dont know these bands on that cd except Oasis, Dylan.

but just a question why we cant listen the music in Season 4 "Angel of Death" in Abby's Lab? CD is labeled "Rise & Shine"
and the one used in Silent Night when abby is in the lab ( the christmas song remix)
and the others Abby lab's ones???
and the ones by Matt Kearney and Matt Nathanson : "all we are" and "all i need" ???
Thanks to Miss' Perrette and De Pable for their song :D
i cant wait to buy it!!!!!!!!!!!
Huge thanks to the NCIS prod who allowed this gift for NCIS fans :D!!!!!!!
Tenderness and Harmony

Since I am a fan of the show, I will pick up the CD. The music on the show has been pretty good lately and I am curious if the stars' songs awill be like.

Morgan Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:32 AM EST

I am, myself, only 19, and another member of the minority. As for TV show soundtracks, I bought the CSI soundtrack when that came out years ago, and it's still one of my favorite CDs.
I totally love NCIS, and I'm definitely getting the soundtrack, especially if it has actual cast members on it. That's something you don't see every day.

Ryan Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:36 AM EST

For a 21 year old I'm in the minority here. I love NCIS. LOVE. IT. But I'm not always in step with pop music. I would be more interested if this were a collection of the series' composer's best musical work on the program

Caroline Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:47 PM EST

I've never really been into tv soundtracks a whole lot, but I see the appeal, especially for shows like Grey's Anatomy that tie music into the scenes in a big way. I'll definitely look into the NCIS soundtrack though because I love Cote de Pablo and Pauley Perrette, they are talented and worth it!!

Brantley Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:37 PM EST

Yes definitely. I can't wait to get one of the CD's.

Bean Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:33 PM EST

I bought and LOVE the soundtrack to La Femme Nikita (TV show, not the movie). It rocks!

Daniel Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:25 PM EST

The LOST scores by Michael Giacchino are essential listening for any fan of the show.

Richard Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:00 PM EST

Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtracks are great as well as The OC soundtrack.

Jenn Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 09:46 PM EST

Absolutely I will be buying this soundtrack. Www.ncismusic.com has a sample of all the tracks and with the songs they have on there it is worth the 12 bucks just for that. The fact that its NCIS' Soundtrack makes it even better. And NCIS has averaged alot more than 17 million this season sorry to break it to you...

ks Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 08:06 PM EST

I love sound tracks! yes to the NCIS soundtrack-Loved Tim this week! I own all of BSG music and Eureka. They are great.

Ragna Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 07:44 PM EST

It's already on my Amazon wishlist for later purchase.

Neil Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 07:20 PM EST

I think you're missing the whole point of the soundtrack. According to their website, none of the tracks are "random." They've each been chosen by the show's writers to integrate into episodes. Almost all of the songs are "brand new", too. I'm one of those 17 million that watches NCIS every week, and music is a BIG part of the show. Also, you didn't mention Blue October, who are huge!

Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:39 PM EST

I love the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights - both for the movie and the TV show.

Liva Bird Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:37 PM EST

The Life on Mars (British version) soundtrack is a great! TV/Movie soundtracks I thought were best used for party music, before the advent of the IPOD. I probably won't purchase the NCIS set though.

Maddy Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:18 PM EST

The OC soundtracks were great.
So were the ones for Veronica Mars and Scrubs.
I can't think of any others that were worth it.
