Kelsey Grammer's new ABC pilot: Greenlight/Red Light?

Backtoyou_l I don't find myself thinking a lot about Kelsey Grammer (unless I'm channel-surfing, stumble onto a Frasier rerun, and check immediately to see if it's the episode The Ski Lodge). But apparently, I do miss him. I just read that he's got a pilot at ABC, to be written by Everybody Loves Raymond alum Tucker Cawley, and I was psyched. According to Variety, Grammer will star as "a corporate tycoon who reconnects with his family after being downsized out of his powerful job." What do you think, PopWatchers: Greenlight or red light?

It gives Grammer, last seen on the small screen on Fox's Back to You, pictured, a chance to play haughty -- which he does best -- and it's timely. I'm going greenlight. And you?

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://carpet-cleaning.emenace.com/autobiogc4/22.html regina steemer carpet cleaner shampoo undefined

The Ski Lodge! Funniest. Half hour. Ever.

The multi-camera sitcom should have some presence on air. It's the last vestige of when TV was more like stage plays rather than movies. "The Ski Lodge" being a great example. I actually have a very soft spot in my heart for a Season 6 episode, "Dinner Party". It was almost real-time and all on the apartment set. Incidentally, the apartment ... sigh.

Can we just bring Fraiser back instead?

Rhonda Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:21 AM EST

It also sounds very contrived, like they're trying too hard.

Redlight! Back to You was lame! And this just sounds like he'll be playing Frasier Crane again.

Reasons for Greenlighting: 1. Kelsey Grammer in a muti-cam sitcom. 2. Exceptional writing provided by Tucker Cawley. 3. Storyline- Kelsey's haughtyness now on the down and out forced to humble himself before a family of crazy, lovable, and annoying relatives = a riot! ABC may have sniffed out a big hit here if the rest of the cast comes together so nicely.

I just hope it's better than the awfulness that was "Back to You."

"The Ski Lodge" was great...but what about the one where Frasier/Niles bought the restaurant? That was a pure 22 minute farce and the ensemble was in top form. I'll never forget Roz walking into the kitchen after the cherry explosion, or Daphne wacking that eel.

He was brilliant on Frasier. Back To You aired too soon after the end of Frasier and didn't last. Why is doing another sitcom so soon? People still miss Frasier!

I too am a big Frasier fan, having gotten into after the series was practically finished (and I DVR reruns all the time, and am waiting for there to be a "The Complete Series: Frasier" packaged set on DVD). I watched some of "Back To You" and enjoyed KG, but the sitcom didn't quite work. But I'd love for one to. I really miss the old sitcom style. While my fav comedies now are The Office and 30 Rock, I really miss the oldtime set and less complicated-ness of them. I'm currently watching NewsRadio on Hulu.com and loving it. So... one novel later.... GREENLIGHT!

Greenlight for Kelsey Grammer's new show!!! and The Ski Lodge is completely brilliant!!!

I'm for any Kelsey Grammer series in which the writing is spot on. The combination of his voice and sharp dialogue is outstanding.

i'd rather they bring back 'back to you' as i was becoming a loyal viewer until it was cancelled.

The Ski Lodge is sheer genius. An absolutely perfect farce in less than 30 minutes.

History will rank Frasier as one of the best comedies on television. Right up there with some of classics of TV's golden age; more so even than the show that spawned it, Cheers. Frasier was hilarious from the first episode to the last; whereas, Cheer had maybe three seasons where it was actually funny. The thing is, a big part of what made that show funny was the chemistry between Grammer and David Hyde-Pierce. While I enjoyed Back to You, Grammer's chemistry with Patricia Heaton was never that good. I think the success of anything Grammer does will depends on the people around him. If the cast is mediocre, Grammer will probably be mediocre.

Greenlight! Greenest light ever. 'Back to You' wasn't perfect but it had potential and 'Frasier' was tv gold. (i own 5 seasons on dvd and i still watch and record reruns on tv.) i think KG is imminently watchable in just about everything.

"The Ski Lodge" is not only one of the funniest episodes of the series, but could be one of the funniest episodes ever on television.

Fred Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 07:20 PM EST

It's impossible to top Frasier, but I'm still craving for more of him...

Alison Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:37 PM EST

Greenlight!! There's not much I love more than Kelsey Grammer. I DVR old episodes of Frasier on Lifetime everday!!!
