Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelor': episode 1

Jan 6, 2009, 01:00 AM | by Chris Harrison

Categories: Reality TV, Television, Things That Are Awesome!

Chrisharrisonportrait_l Let me start this off by admitting that this is my first ever blog. It's not that I'm against it, but I'm not exactly the Facebook/MySpace kind of guy. When I heard that my friend and Survivor host, Jeff Probst, took on this task (and enjoyed it), I decided to give in and join the masses. I hope you enjoy this journey, and I will try to give you as much insight and behind-the-scenes scoop as I can without ruining the amazing proposal we end up with (I hope you knew that part!).

I fully supported and even campaigned a little to get Jason Mesnick as our newest Bachelor. He's a great guy, very down-to-earth and, like myself, always puts family first. He's extremely genuine and loves his son, Ty, more than anything in this world. But one of the things I like best about Jason is he has NO poker face. As you saw in the first episode, he just can't hide what he's feeling -- good, bad or downright awkward. I find that very endearing as it allows all of us to really see and feel what his true emotions are. My interview at the beginning of the show this season was one of the easiest I've ever done. Even with people I know and like it's a bit awkward as the bachelors and bachelorettes aren't quit comfortable in front of the cameras yet. Jason and I have a lot in common. We're about the same age (okay, I'm a little older) and both dads, and I think that's why his interview was very easy and comfortable, yet still revealing. Sometimes this 5-minute (TV time) interview can take a couple hours to shoot.

Because this first episode is two hours long and full of names and roses and we're all just getting warmed up here, I'm going to cheat a little bit this week and just throw out random thoughts and notes from this show. (If you have a problem with this take it up with your local blogosphere representative. You people have those, right?) After this, we'll deal with the women.

*Reliving Jason's half proposal to Deanna at the top of the show was tough. Still not sure why she left him down there so damn long.

*Not sure why the producers never put slow-mo shots of me working out at the gym or doing push ups by my pool in the show. Oh wait, yes, I do know why.

Bachelor Season 13 fun facts:
*This is the fourth time we've used this house. Brad, Matt, Deanna, and now Jason.

*The women start getting ready at 9 A.M. but the arrivals don't take place till about 9 P.M. The first rose ceremony isn't till about 4 A.M. We all get to bed around 8 A.M. That is except me because when I get home my kids are getting up and are ready for breakfast and are off to school.

*A couple of guys with garden hoses wet down the driveway to make it look good on camera for arrivals. Not so good if you have a full-length gown!

*The driver of the third limo is a gentleman named Caesar. He's a great guy who's appeared on the show as a driver I believe since the beginning. If not, pretty darn close to it.

The Arrivals and Cocktail Party:
*It only takes about an hour to get five limos with five women each unloaded, introduced to Jason, and in the house.

*Because Jason is a father and the girls knew this coming in, the cocktail party was very subdued this season. There wasn't much drinking and nobody really got out of control. In fact, Jason actually had the same drink in his hand the entire first night.

Deliberation and Rose Ceremony:
*Once I grab Jason we go straight into the deliberation room. This room is a converted bedroom on the first floor of the girls' house. The women are all dying to see this room and see what pictures we use. They aren't allowed inside ever. While we're deliberating the living room is being torn down and being set up for the rose ceremony.

*The cruelest part of all is the fact that the girls arrive in a limo, but once rejected they go home in a van.

Now lets talk about the girls on night one. Again these are going to be quick takes as we're all just getting started here. During arrivals Lisa taught us Idaho is a great place because of...wait for it...potatoes! (The Idaho tourism board just hired her.) Treasure had the best line, explaining to Jason that "Treasure" was in fact her real name, not her stage name. Shannon, really with the teeth bit? Ask Dr. Travis Stork how that move works out.

Once inside the party a couple girls left quite an impression. Shannon, if you have to tell a man you're not a stalker...well, guess what? Sharon, not a great idea to tell a man you quit your job just to meet him. Jillian "It's important to know what a man puts on his pork"...I like you a lot (by the way I'm a mustard, ketchup guy myself). To Renee and all other women out there who have them. Vision boards scare men and not in a good way. Molly gets the award for best steal of the night. When you see your man dancing with a hot Brazilian, put an end to it fast. Some things you didn't see in the first episode but were pretty darn funny (editing room floor, sorry). Dominique did pretty good impressions of all the girls. Ann did the entire flight attendant routine for Jason. Sharon used every letter in the alphabet to describe something good about Jason (hard to believe we didn't leave that in, huh?). As has become the norm, a few of the girls did their best Chris Harrison impersonation, some of them are pretty good.

Again, we're just getting started here, so I hope you enjoyed week 1 and my first official blog. Next week we'll get more details as the girls move in, the dates begin, and this thing really starts cookin' as we quickly get our first kiss. Did you happen to notice Deanna is back? Until then, please take a moment and say your goodbyes.

I didn't really watch the bachelor or the bachelorette. I caught the finale of the Bachelor which starred Brad Womack & Deanna Pappas. I watched the season with Deanna and Jason and my heart went out to Jason and I truly felt sorry for what he went through, but this season was the ultimate. I WILL NEVER WATCH THE BACHELOR OR BACHELORETTE AGAIN. YOU BOOST RATING BY DESTROYING PEOPLE ON TV! FAKE OR NOT IT WAS TOO LOW FOR ME TO EVER WATCH AGAIN. Jason doesn't get what Melissa was trying to tell him when she said he wasn't willing to fight for her. What they experienced while doing the shooting of this show was not real life. Yeah, I get it that things were different, but you need to build from what they started. They did not even have an opportunity to with each other on a daily basis. Jason didn't try to work it out. He had a fall back, MOLLY.

Cheese Thu, Mar 5, 2009 at 11:42 AM EST

It's never easy watching anyone get hurt, but this is what happens each season and each episode of the Bachelor/ Bachelorette. I do not sympathize any more with Melissa than I do the other women who became emotionally involved. Everyone knew the risk that came with finding love in this fashion . They all have seen the show, even Melissa! All participants were vulnerable to being hurt! Everyone is just focusing on HOW Jason broke it off with Melissa. “Oh, he did it on national television, he could have done it in private“! Woop De Doo! He broke it off with Molly, Jillian, Natalie, Stephanie ………on national television. This is how the show goes. If you don't like reality watch a different type of show! I would much rather someone to tell me they are not in love with me rather than string me along. This is how Melissa should look at the situation. Even if he would have broken it off with her later, there would have been ten-thousand different stories in the tabloids of how it went.

whitney Wed, Mar 4, 2009 at 09:45 PM EST

Well Chris, I saw your interview on the Ellen show today. I thought it was great that you spoke openly about the bachellor show and the outcome of it. But I was so insulted when you ended it by saying "don't worry all the bachelors involved in the new bacheloret show will know how to speak Canadian". It can't get more insulting than that. As far as I can remember, we both speak english. You should be ashamed of yourself and you should learn more about your closest neighbours, and how we have supported the United States through thick and thin. Why is it that Americans feel the need to make fun of Canadians? I will never understand that. I guess I can only chalk it up to be ingorance. I sure hope you don't do too much of your filming of the bacheloret in Canada, as I am sure you have struck a nerve with all Canadians after that comment.

Disappointed Wed, Mar 4, 2009 at 03:01 PM EST

I was rooting for Jason all season until the end. Wow...and all that family talk about how the girls better not hurt Jason, because he has been hurt over and over and over....and then Jason pulls THIS stunt? What a jerk. Melissa is better off.

bachcomment Wed, Mar 4, 2009 at 08:10 AM EST

I am done with this show, also. I am also done with Chris Harrison and his tasteless decision to negatively impact someone on national TV for a few $'s. (Melissa) I will not turn off TV Channel or anything he is on. Jason is the "Biggest Loser" and Chris and ABC are not far behind. Tasteless show. That is all I can say. ABC owes Melissa a public apology.

ts Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 09:17 PM EST

Done with this show. All involved should have had better taste than to embarass someone on national tv for ratings. Jason is a wus he has no spine an is so fake. Squeeze out some more fake tears, didn't shed to many for Melissa. Only took 5 minutes to get suck face with Molly after dumping his finance. Chris you and Jason need to man up and have some balls. Forget this, I say Cancel this show NOW.

Rich Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 06:40 PM EST

The comment that Molly is weak is far from true. She's a stong self assured person. She fought hers fears and concerns and kept dialing up her feeling, which I don't think was easy. She wasn't in on this situation in any way, if you judged her face and strange reaction. She was so glad to see the change that while confused had to react strongly to a second change and finding love with Jason. In the end I'm concerned that Jason is strong enough, man enough to handle Molly as he do seem a bit wimpy to me. Will stay tuned with the rest of you tonight, what else could happen.

gina Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 06:15 PM EST

I think the final show was so horrible. Molly is weak and will hopefully see the light and dump this pig. Melissa is a great girl and will find someone great. She is still young and gorgious and has plenty to offer out there. As for the network.I WILL NEVER WATCH THE BACHELOR OR BACHELORETTE AGAIN. YOU BOOST RATING BY DESTROYING PEOPLE ON TV! FAKE OR NOT IT WAS TOO LOW. MAKE JERRY SPRINGER LOOK LIKE CHURCH. Sad I hope this bites the network and the show in the ass!

Sharon Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 06:11 PM EST

I totally agree with Dawn. Melissa wasn't smiling when she came on the stage nor did she even sit next to Jason. That was all for ratings. I think they broke up quite some time ago and ABC decided to "use" this for ratings. I agree about Molly too. She absolutely knew what was going on. I think she and Jason were probably dating before this show aired last night. Good for her and him if that's what they want but this was all staged! Melissa wasn't surprised and neither was Molly!

snapper Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 06:02 PM EST

Sorry Melissa-you did not deserve to be be part of this circus. I dont feel this was staged, surely he would not expose his son to it.

Haptowns Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 04:31 PM EST

What is SHOCKING is that ABC allowed Melissa to be made a fool of on national television. There wouldn't be any controversy at all if Jason had just broken it off on their own time. I can totally understand how he could be torn between the two women given the circumstances, but of course to actually propose when you're in that state is riduculous which falls on him. It makes him seem very needy and insensitive. I'd like to hear what actually changed his mind over Christmas and why he didn't 1) ask ABC for more time to decide between the two during the show and 2) why he wasn't considerate enough of Melissa to break this off personally and then just relay it After The Final Rose on national TV.

Rich Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 03:37 PM EST

What happened last night was stunning to say the least. You have to question how someone could flip that quickly. But my now a day later thoughts are: 1)Contestants sign up for a public show for better or worse and need to be prepared, as much as Melissa was hurt, she knew had to know the stakes, 2)If the chemistry ready changed off camera as this couple tried to advance their relationship, Jason had to make this decision. 3)Jason wanted to try to salvage his relationship with Molly and reverse course. This was public but several of my friends have gone back and forth, this is no different.

So in part I understand the outrage, if you look at it logically and thought our every day mirrors its not that unusual. Why should we not be open to seeing how Molly and Jason work out. I haven't seen many opinions like mine, so I'm in the vast minority on this, but it needed to be said. BTW I watch most of the episodes.

prettykitty Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 02:06 PM EST

Harrison - You self-satisfied smuck! Keep your own side of the bed warm -

You are a crappy blogger and really should get someone to edit your blog before posting. We'll be back to the show, no doubt. The big question is, will you? You're not that great. The best part about you was your ability to remain neutral and in the shadows. Now that you've come out as the absolute famewhore of this series - you won't be on it too much longer. Do you really think Fleiss is going to keep you around? They are going to need a new twist and hell, maybe your "best bud" Jason will get your job! Hell knows, there is no need for any estate planners in todays economy... heck, maybe that's why Jason decided to go with Molly after all! He got laid off and needs someone to take care of him! Watch out Chris! You are the next casualty of this farce... Peace out, loser.

Anne Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 01:29 PM EST

Chris

Thank you for your insight. I think its very telling that you and your wife would meet up with Melissa for a beer.
Personally, I don't believe it was professional for ABC to let Jason do the breakup on National TV and then start a relationship on TV. I could have done without the kissing,in poor taste. ABC also should not be parading this couple on the talk show circuit, very poor taste. I would have preferred an announcement from you at the end of the airing that since the taping they broke up.
Also some friends of my daughter who are 17-18 year olds Seniors, who are in high school and will start college in the fall, and I did not let my daughter start watching till she was a Senior. They had this to say after watching together."Jason is not a role model and felt he behave like some of the guys they dated in high school. They felt he should have waited to started another relationship" They felt sorry for Melissa and Molly could do a lot better.

Dawn Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 01:18 PM EST

Give me a break! Melissa already knew before she walked on that stage that it was over. They had obviously broken up before they even taped last night's show. If she had no idea she would have been excited to see him when she came on stage. It was also quite obvious that Molly and Jason had already seen each other. She's a terrible actress! Trying to act shocked that Jason and Melissa weren't together anymore...what a joke. He didn't choose her and then she shows up months later for the taping and with no explanation as to why he didn't choose her she jumps right back in and starts making out with him. Doesn;t everyone that's 2nd choice do that. They obviuosly had seen or talked to each other. She knew exactly what was going on!

Disappointed and Disgusted Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 01:16 PM EST

I am very disappointed in the network for letting Jason do something so cruel and mean to Melissa on National television.....doesn't anyone have a clue that women have true feelings? I was sick to my stomach for Melissa and then Jason had the backbone to tell Molly he loved her still and he kissed her........Yuck!! I am sure he won't be happy with her either....didn't work out the first two times so I am sure it will never work out!! Shame on you ABC!! I will never watch another show!!

Ramos the Realtor Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 12:07 PM EST

I am very disappointed with the viewing last night! Jason is an ASS. Chris thank you for not skirting around the issue that Jason wanted another woman, for a minute there I was hoping Melissa was gonna slap him! Then Molly comes on and without any real answers just takes him back, come on I mean it was bad enough that she felt she needed to put on a tiny bikini , sit on top of him, and use sex to keep him. And I hope everyone heard Molly slip last night and say " we had only been apart for a few hours , before he let me go" sounds like they both deserve each other. Well people looks like we have a new "Beauty and the Beast", only question who is who?

Disgusted Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 10:58 AM EST

I am ever so disapointed. I get that people's feelings change, but Jason's feelings did not change, they were there all along, which is exactly why he should have never asked Melissa to marry him. He knew he still had feelings for Molly. In the end, we would have all had way more respect for Jason if he had just taken more time to understand his feelings before proposing and then breaking Melissa's heart. Most of us fell for Jason, he appeared to be the male version of America's sweetheart, but not anymore. Kissing Molly after Melissa had just left the stage was just low class. This is one bachelor fan that won't be watching anymore.

carolyn whitby Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 10:35 AM EST

I LOVED WATCHING THE SHOW WITH JASON. BUT I DONT THINK I WILL EVER WATCH IT AGAIN. MELISSA DID NOT DID NOT DESERVE SUCH AN IMATURE MOVE & TO BE HURT LIKE THAT ON NATIONAL TV. I THOUGHT THE WORLD OF JASON TILL HE DUMPTED MELISSA . ON A SCALE OF 1-10 HE WENT FROM A 10 TO A -500

Teresa Galligan Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 02:35 AM EST

Tonights show was disgusting. What a disappointment. In no way was it honorable OR love. Very selfish for Jason to use Melissa like he did; and I can't beleive Molly took him back.
Melissa is too good for this show..so do not suggest her for Bachelorette. Same goes for Jillian. I am sure she's glad she was "outa here!" I am totally sick to my stomach about this misuse of relationship AND how he did this!

dj Mon, Mar 2, 2009 at 11:56 PM EST

After watching the final episode of the Bachelor and After the Final Rose I was very disappointed. Melissa did not deserve the way Jason did her. I hope she will become the next Bachelorette. She is so sweet and deserves to find love. I loved Jason throughout the whole show, that is up until the end and then I was disgusted.

lisa Mon, Mar 2, 2009 at 10:48 PM EST

i just watched the finle to the bachelor 13 and i will never every watch it again i can not you did this to poor melissa just for the ratings it was horrible so i hope you got everything you wanted for the show because you ruined someones life for ratings and molly said she hasn't talked with him since the last rose please so i hope you never ruin anybody's life

Elizabeth Minton Mon, Mar 2, 2009 at 03:38 PM EST

I just found out that tonight after the Bachelor, DeAnna will be doing a live video chat on getmarried.com. The chat starts at 11PM ET and you can join it at http://www.getmarried.com/deanna/livechat/. Can’t wait to hear what she has to say!

Diane Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 08:36 PM EST

Brenda, you and your friends will be ecstatic at first but don't watch the AFTR shows unless you really want to throw your tv out the window.

Diane Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 08:34 PM EST

Chris please explain to me how Jason comes out smelling like a rose? I know what's going down and Jason has gone down quite a number of pegs in my book. Not Cool!!

Brenda Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 06:45 PM EST

Hey Chris!! Greetings from Minnesota!! A group of lady friends and I are getting together on Monday night to watch "The Bachelor" finale! (We think we should probably warn the neighbors in case we get carried away with the "surprise" ending!) Do you have any clues to share as to what's going to happen???...C'mon, Chris --- give us a hint!!! We watch every Monday night and talk about it at work every Tuesday!! We print out the episode recap AND your blog--with your picture, of course!

Our majority vote goes with Melissa--are we right???

Thanks for the fun this season!! We're already wondering what we're gonna watch til the next Bachelor/Bachelorette!!!

Take Care!
Brenda, Katie, Marcia, Kathy, Becky, Annette and Lindsey

Jeri Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 01:46 AM EST

I'm really sick of all the secrets getting out and sad to think that this show is that edited and planned. I would like to believe that Jason is as sweet and kind as I thought he was from last season. If all this conniving is true, I'll NEVER watch this show again and that makes me sad because I have always enjoyed it. But I am an extremely honest person and hate any kind of deceit. I think it's important Chris that either you speak up now or ABC does because this show could go down the tubes if something isn't replied to soon.

Raquel35 Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 05:05 PM EST

Well, after watching RS video blog, I was shocked. Why would ABC play with someone's feelings like that? If what RS said is true, then I agree with most of the board that Jason is a Jerk, and he and Molly deserve each other. RS said Melissa had no ideal what was going on.
There's a part of me that doesn't believe it, but I guess I will have to wait and see. I hope it isn't true.

NameLess Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 12:04 PM EST

So, it turns out that things were scripted and Jason was made to pick Melissa even though he wanted Molly. He was then made to publicly dump Melissa at the ATFR and hook up with Molly. Was only Jason in on it? Were they all in on it? I'm leaning toward the latter.

Cindy Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 12:53 PM EST

I don't know where some of you have been, but back in December, there were all kinds of reports that Jason had indeed found true love on the Bachelor and was happpily engaged. So the ATR part II can't be that he bails on both Molly and Mel. More like what others are suggesting with the parents of Mel FINALLY showing up to meet Jason and give him their blessing. And kill any future hot tub scenes. His future wife will watch this one day and cringe. Lack of taste folks.

Tony Smith Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 10:25 PM EST

I just wanna say that I think Jillian was by far the best girl from the final 3! I wish I had a way to contact her & just tell her how amazing she is & that she'll surely end up with someone that appreciates how great she is.

larry Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 01:24 AM EST

On the promos for the show in December(?) did we not see a pinky ring on the left hand of the lady Jason was proposing to? Molly has such a ring. In addition, leaping to your death at the end of a bungee seems like you would take only the girl you want to marry with you. Still, Molly seems a bit shallow. I'm a big Jillian fan.

beth Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 12:55 PM EST

Kudos, ABC! I've watched every season, and I LOVE this year. Why? The ladies are all, for once, a CLASS act with no "hoochie-mamas, drama queens,pot-stirrers, or celebrity wanna-be's." Real women are fighting for a chance with a REAL man with morals and family values. Also, the two hour episodes are phenomenal! I am a high school teacher and my teenagers are addicted this season because they can at least catch an hour of a broadcast even though their schedules are hectic. Keep it coming with more of these type of contestants. I know America must be responding!

Alli Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 09:53 AM EST

My guess is 1.Molly 2. Melissa 3. Naomi and 4. Jill. I agree with others. He doesnt have Chemistry with Naomi and Jill. Naomi is beautiful but how much do they have in common? I cant picture them hanging out on a Saturday night, watching movies. Same with Jill, she has a great life, I just dont see her wanting to settle down...or move. Oh, and about D comign back....my guess is that he calls her for help... he doesnt know who to choose, Molly or Melissa, so he calls D, she comes, and what she says to him is...she realized she made a mistake....dont make the same mistake.... I highly doubt she says...I made a mistake pick me... plus, they have already shown all the other sceens that surronded showing D coming back....They are really good with these "teasers" but I think thats whta will happen!

Carrie Tue, Feb 3, 2009 at 12:08 PM EST

Kudos to Stephanie. She is such a classy lady and took not getting a rose with such grace. By the looks of things next week, Naomi's mother is wacky and Melissa's parents won't get on camera to meet Jason? What's up with that? Could mean they won't get a rose!! Can't imagine Ty hanging around Naomi's family!! lol

WatchWithWife Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 01:54 PM EST

Chris - Great blog - keep it up! I enjoy the show for the most part though some of the drama does get to be a bit much. Here's our question - what's with the "Jason, ladies, this is the last rose of the evening" thing? Do the producers really want that??? Is it intended to raise the drama? Kudos to Jason for not giving out that last rose last week. Finally, someone with guts to just say "no" when it was appropriate. THAT'S the kind of things that makes this show real.

MsOrchid Sun, Jan 25, 2009 at 04:50 PM EST

I was hoping he'd end up with Stephanie! She is SUCH a lady and just exudes class...something you are born with, not bought!

Shannon is scary! She is just so psycho I can't stand to watch her! This last week's episode with her running into the bathroom to puke was just beyond ridiculous! She is SUCH a drama queen!

If she thinks she can get Jason by making him feel sorry for her, well, she's going to have some big disappointments coming!

JASON AND STEPHANIE ALL THE WAY!!!

lulu Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 02:14 PM EST

james, are you serious? watching skinny tan pretty white girls may be loads of fun for you, but maybe not for EVERYONE. Considering we just elected a Black president, maybe including minorities on the show isn't just "PC nonsense"!

Marina Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 01:45 AM EST

Didn't ABC used to repeat The Bachelor? I don't see it on the schedule except for its original airdate.

Va Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST

First of all, I am impressed to see a real guy on here. There are many single parents, and this season has added variety. I would also love an episode or more time at the end of episodes to see what goes on behind the scenes. I feel the episode when you bring the men or women back on who were rejected is a waste and I have never watched them. It would be fun to see what we miss in shooting and would add a little more character without giving anything away. And, PS. I think Stephanie should be the next Bachelorette. She is real and has been through so much and deserves a chance at finding true love again.

Sat, Jan 17, 2009 at 05:36 PM EST

I liked Jason from the last season, but now with all the latest developments I have had enough. I have watched the shows from Alex, and this time it has put an end to me even watching the rest of this one.

I just read on JU that Jason has stopped watching for Melissa. I think that is totally wrong. It says alot about their character if they won't even watch themselves. And they expect others to do so. My time with this seasons bachelor and future is up. To scripted, and I think the idea that these women are so in love with him from the start is a big mistake. Where is the love from the heart.

Sat, Jan 17, 2009 at 10:57 AM EST

When did she get the tattoo. Was it with the high shool sweetheart. All the true love, makes me wonder if she meet Jason before this. Because you don't go into a show, like all these girls are instantly in love with Jason. And that is what it looks like to me. I for one think this season is more scripted than in the past. In fact I am really disappointed in it. I think it looks fake. And for one. don't think it is that exciting of a show. Especially since we know who he picks. The fact that she is having trouble watching the show, tells me she did the show for the wrong reason. Meaning that if you can't watch your love story unfold, where is the strength and bond to keep the love story going. I personally think it is a big slap in the face to Jason. I would personally be upset with her actions, and question her sencerity about the entire process. But then I question Jason's as well. A couple of his statements from an interview and on TV "this must work". "I know one of you is going to be my wife". First pressure on himself to not look like a looser like all the previous Bachelors before him. Then saying one is his wife, when he knows nothing about them. What about being in love with 3 women in just months. Jason what is your game buddy. It doesn't look very good from an outsiders point of view. But then I think they cast all the wrong women as well. Bottom line he should not of done it. Because he looks needy. And I think he is far from that. And the girls are infatuated with him before they go on the show. Makes me wonder how can you really truly fall in love, with someone who is instantly in love with you before you meet them. Where are the genuine feelings from the heart. If this makes it to the alter, and there after I will be totally shocked, because I think it is wrong, and won't last. I for one now realize that the feelings he had with D were infact geniune and from the heart. Now it looks like nothing but a game. And what about all the kissing. A repeat of Bob. Jason I never thought that would of come from you. Yes I am getting very tired of the Bachelor and for myself this will probably be the very last one I watch. That is if I watch anymore at all. Like most I think they will watch the first episode, and the last. To H with all the inbetween because what good does it do to watch when the final one is already out there. I bet you my two cents that the ratings from night one to night two have already dropped way off, and they will continue to do so. This was a huge mistake for the producers to do this. Not that we want Jason to find love. But you can tell by the girls it isn't going to work.

Dana Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 12:08 AM EST

In response to James' comment below mine. What would be wrong with having minorities? To be honest, there are some minorities and women of other ethnic backgrounds that I have seen who are 20 times more beautiful than ALL of those girls are on the bachelor and Jason would probably end up falling for ALL of them not just one of them. And to add to that, those beautiful minority girls don't need to go on TV to find a husband. Thank you.

james Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 02:54 AM EST

Please, don't start using fat girls and/or minorites on the show. The fun is to see skinny, tan, pretty, white girls. Enough with the PC nonsense.

kkp Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 09:37 PM EST

Hi Chris. I'll echo the numerous comments on a job well done and look forward to the blogs to come! Jason is the perfect bachelor because he seems to be genuine guy and a REALLY nice guy at that - one who deserves a happy ending for once! It's nice to see a few single moms on the show for a change. Watching 25 "women" who are mostly really beautiful, skinny, and somewhat immature running around in bikinis is getting a little old. We need variety! I'll also agree with others who wrote that I think the clip on what's to come on this season gave away too much. I love the anticipation of not knowing if there will be a proposal and if the person will say yes. And it seems to be too easy to figure out who will be the lucky girl. And the teaser about DeAnna edited to seem as though she is asking Jason for a second chance is just cruel to her. I'm not a big DeAnna fan, but that's not really fair to her to give people more ammunition to write mean things about her.

renee barfoot Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:48 PM EST

Hey Chris! It's Renee Barfoot...i still can't believe we watch you on tv each week! Hope things are going well and you're enjoying life - seems like you are. Y'all actually almost cast a friend of mine on the Deanna show (our youth pastor!) I love the blog - noone would ever know you've never done one before. Hope to see you soon - maybe at the LHHS reunion?! =)rb

Kylie Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:59 PM EST

I don't have much to say about OHCH blogging, but I'm mainly just cracking up at all the Lincee ihategreenbeans.com comments.
I've been a loyal Lincee follower since before the Bachelor Bob days. Back when we didn't even know what blogs were and I got Tuesday morning emails courtesy of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend who knew Lincee.
It's just really unbelievable how many followers she has now.
Crazy.
Rock on OHCH!
:)

Rhonda Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:46 AM EST

I also believe it's Melissa. On episode 1 she's wearing a gold ring on her right pinky. When you see Jason purposing, you see a gold pinky ring on the girl's right hand also. Then you have the freckles that match Melissa's. Just speculation.

JM8031 Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 09:33 AM EST

I also think it's melissa because the woman in the end had small hands and a french manicure and last night if you noticed, melissa had the same hands and the same french manicure..jason also said that melissa was 100% his type ...

Linda Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 09:32 AM EST

Enjoyed the insight. JAson and melissa just seemed like they always have been together. Jillian and Jason make a very handsome couple.
Shannon the Stalker she needs to calm down. Poor Jason will have to sleep with one eye open. Erica and Megan need to go home before they kill each other. They are both the type that they start trouble and sit back and watch it explode. They are somewhat alike.

Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:25 AM EST

In response to the comment made by CEO- you know some of us wanted to be surprised right?

The CEO Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:08 AM EST

Melissa Wins...And I Can Prove It!

In minute 1:58 of episode 1, the closing scene shows a close-up of the left hand of the girl selected by Jason...and then you see the smallest glimpse of a gold pinkie ring on the right pinkie finger of the woman as her right arm glides by the screen.

Then in the beach date scene from episode 2 with Melissa, you see her wearing a similar pinkie ring on the exact same right pinkie finger.

I could not see any other women in the show wearing similar pinkie rings on that same right pinkie finger.

Less than 1% of all women even wear a ring on that finger.

Does this mean she is the "one"?

You decide.

The CEO

I am an ardent fan of the Bachelor altho it is so out of character for me!
I am a middle aged teacher/Librarian and mother of four but I am so addicted to the show! I am getting a little sick of the Bimbo/Floozy type contestants that have been on of late tho! I have a million ideas for making the show a bit more realistic and interesting at the same time.
Contact me if you're interested in tapping into my creativity..I won't even charge you if you use my ideas!!!

Alissa Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 02:01 PM EST

It's Chris Harrison! Yay! Great blog. I'm loving the behind the scenes information. The fact that the girls go home in a van is amazing. I was wondering about the driveway too. Although, I'm not sure it really makes it look better...just wetter.

Oh, and we have a recap of the episode up...not quite as insightful...but probably a bit more snarky...everyone feel free to check it out:

http://corefourreviews.blogspot.com/2009/01/bachelor-jason-mesnik-episode-1-recap.html

Laura Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 11:11 AM EST

Chris! thanks for blogging. The Bachelor is such a great show and I really appreciate the calmness and ease you bring to the show. Are you still doing HGTV?

maddison Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 05:07 AM EST

Great job with your first blog, Chris! I agree with Jason being the most authentic and likable. So, it's unfortunate this round of women was disappointing and very, very slim for the picking. The women looked a lot older than their age and personality-wise, zzzzzzzzzzzzz. I can already tell none of those girls are worthy of Jason (with the exception of Stacia who left toooo early). I'll still stick around to the end, though. I'm hoping Jason does the right thing and leaves single. Anyhow, blog on, Chris! Love ya!

Stacey Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 02:47 PM EST

Chris - love your blog! I love hearing what goes on behind the scenes when the cameras are off. I watched Monday and got so into it, I started my own blog: http://bachelorlove.blogspot.com

Can't wait til Monday. Thanks for the entertainment!

Kari Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 10:01 AM EST

We love you Chris!!

Karen Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 12:09 AM EST

Chris, THANK YOU! You are so great to see on the show and I love your take on things. This is just fantastic! By the way, I'm sure you know about Lincee. I saw some other folks mentioned her. So, welcome OHCH!

jessica Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:59 PM EST

Hi Chris,

Great blog...gives us a chance to get to know the real you rather than the "edited Chris". Glad you decided to do this rather than go the myspace/facebook route...that's not my thing either. Love the show...only one I make a point to watch each week! It's nice to see single parents portrayed this time. Jason certainly does not have a poker face..his expression was classic when you mentioned how he hasn't had any luck with love. He had no idea how to respond...looking forward to hearing more of your take on the show!

katie Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:32 PM EST

not as funny as Lincee...but since it's your first time..i'll give you a break! thanks for the inside info!

Melissa Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 08:23 PM EST

Check out Lincee's recap @ www.ihategreenbeans.com! Funny stuff, like LOL funny! : )

Megan Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 06:02 PM EST

Wow! I had no idea there were others out there who felt the same way I did: that you're the best part of the show! You're hilarious and you always ask the questions I want answers to.

And personally, I think it's a good thing to let the person know when it's the last rose. It reminds us of what's at stake. Plus, it gives you more airtime : )

Keep up the great work!

CCP Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:27 PM EST

Great blog Chris. Loved hearing your take on the evening. The behind the scene scoop is great! Almost as good as Lincee's bachelor recaps over at www.ihategreenbeans.com

Danielle Marie Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:21 PM EST

I love this blog. Thanks for the insider info...I'll be looking forward to reading this each week!

Allison Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 03:08 PM EST

I totally agree with the comment below from scrubs_rock about Stacia. I thought she was the perfect match. down to earth, they didnt even really show her....so strange. Forget all of the other "Barbies" and focus on real life girls.

Joyce Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 02:08 PM EST

Thanks Chris for doing this blog. I love this show so much and I'll be here every week eagerly awaiting your insight!

Michelle Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:33 PM EST

Thanks for starting your blog, Chris! Keep those interesting behind-the-scenes facts coming our way!!! Also, I love it when the show shows bloopers or contestants acting silly!

I sure hope Jason finds everlasting love this time--he seems like a genuinely nice guy!!!

Jamie Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:11 PM EST

I love Jason but I was totally disappointed with the selection of women. Most of them look so fake! And gosh, does Jason prefer blondes or what? haha. And yeah, the whole Deanna thing is just editing--obviously she is telling him not to get engaged because it is a mistake. I was surprised he sent the Seattle girl home so soon. Even if he didn't feel an immediate connection, the short distance is such a bonus.

By the way, I live in Kirkland, WA. Still waiting to see Jason in Costco or at the parks!

Jamie Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 01:07 PM EST

Chris (or anyone with an idea), It was pretty apparent when watching the first episode that when you (Chris) explained what the deal was with the voting box as well as when you (Chris) announced the bachelorettes with the most votes that it was dubbed in and that we didn't hear what you (Chris) really said. Why did the show do that and what did you really say?

shelly Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:57 AM EST

Chris, if only you weren't married, I'd ask you to accept this rose! ;)

Seriously though, thanks so much for the blog. You are awesome and very funny and the only reason I tune in to this silly show every now and then. If you ever write a snarky tell-all about your hosting experiences, let us know and I'll be the first in line to buy a copy!

(yes I was kidding about offering you a rose, but you wouldn't happen to have a funny single brother who is just like you, would you?)

kimmikins Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:09 AM EST

Megan is a cousin of mine. Her grand-dad was so proud that she was on the show that he emailed our whole family about it. After watching the first episode, we're making a drinking game wherein we MUST drink every time Megan gets "bleeped". How proud she makes us all! WHAT FUN!!!!

scrubs_rocks Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:37 PM EST

great blog! Keep 'em coming. Just wondering why Stacia was completely ignored on the premiere?? She seemed like the best match to me, and she was ignored by the producers (?) and seemingly by jason ???

Lori Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 10:08 PM EST

Great Blog Chris! Keep up the good work hosting the bachelor...we all know you are the true "star" of the show! I would love to hear what "really" goes on in the making of The Bachelor! And by the way...where in America do they find all of the fake Barbie's? How about some real American girls to put some Reality into this "reality" show!

Elizabeth Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 07:06 PM EST

Hey Chris,
Just wanted to let you know that that was a great first blog. I really appreciate the insight about the show, but most of all I love the fun facts about the process, time line, and other information about the production aspect. You've done a great job through the years. Thanks.

kim Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:54 PM EST

chris, what idiot decided to give Deanna air time on The Bachelor? nobody can stand her anymore! she was only on the bachelorette because she thought it would make her famous!

Jenny J Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 06:17 PM EST

Chris, I love that you threw in the bit about a Chris Harrison impersonation. I throw a "Bachelor" party every week and I'm known for my champagne-fueled final rose impression: "Ladies...Jason...it's the final rose tonight. When you're ready..." Thanks for being our fave host! :)

tibbys Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 03:42 PM EST

chris....when the bachelor, or bachelorette, is passing out the roses, and they are down to 1, you come out and state the obvious. i know you have some say in the show, so pleeeeeeeeeeeease, please, stop coming out and saying, jason, ladies, this is the last rose. it drives me and everyone i know who watches, nuts!
thank you

Emean Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 03:23 PM EST

Fantastic! You have a great voice and an eye for detail. I always wondered why it looked like it had rained on that driveway. Especially when we've had so many droughts! And yeah, too many of the girls give up way too much info! Hello, act coy and mysterious!

Diane Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 02:17 PM EST

Hey Chris!!! Love reading your blog. I'm a huge fan of the bachelor/bachelorette show. Your insider info. is awesome! Love, love the sense of humor you have...keep it up.

I am also a huge fan of Jason. Being a single mom of 2 young boys, I can totally relate to his situation. It's not easy doing everything by yourself but you figure it out. My heart broke at the end of last season...when he was in the car and said no matter what, he'd always have his son to love. That really hit home with me. I truly hope he finds his soulmate...and that it's not Deanna.

Looking forward to reading your blog next week.

not a fan Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 02:10 PM EST

I've never watched the show before- I don't acually watch tv- but I watched the premiere because of a connection I have to one of the bachelorettes. This show is ridiculous... I know it's all staged and everything, but that only adds to the ridiculousness. Gratefully I don't have to watch many more episodes.

Nellie Pina Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 02:07 PM EST

Wow, great blog, you know, they say that you end up being really good at what you like the least...try myspace.

Suzanne Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 12:13 PM EST

Interesting info! Keep the random tidbits coming, those are great :)

Dan Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 11:31 AM EST

Why isn't anyone here discussing The Littlest Groom?

Emean Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 11:25 AM EST

Welcome to the blogosphere, Chris!! I'm so excited you're doing a blog! I'm a huge Bachelor fan, and when you came on the screen on Monday, I said aloud, "I've missed you, Chris."

Allison Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 11:11 AM EST

I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this (too many posts to read) but did anyone else feel like he some how didnt pick 2-3 normal looking girls during the first ceremony. I wa sos suprised he skipped over these girls who seemed wholesome and who will not break up with him after the show is done. One girl in particular, the mom with short brown hair whow has 2 kids. Shes so pretty and I thought they would have been great....maybe he should have picked the girl in the gold dress who was trashy. Very strange why he didnt pick some normal people.....

Blair Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 09:26 AM EST

Chris- Excellent blog! Thanks for the insider info. I too noticed Jason's lack of poker face and it was hilarious. I can't wait to see him through out the season with his expressions. I did think this was a strange bunch of women. Not really slutty, just weird.

Which bachelor or bachelorette have you liked the most, and disliked the most?

sjcaligurl Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 05:29 AM EST

"*Reliving Jason's half proposal to Deanna at the top of the show was tough. Still not sure why she left him down there so damn long."

Of course you know why she left him down there so long. DeAnna proved on the show that she was a needy and demanding young woman. She wanted the satisfaction of having two proposals. She's kinda lacking that same "empathy" gene that Jeremy seemed to be missing. She wasn't thinking about Jason's feelings - only her getting to say "no, I can't." Heck, the viewers saw what Jesse was going through before he proposed and DeAnna was bragging at the ATFR that she still wanted to play "hard to get." She had no regard for Jesse wrenching himself inside out fearing that he wasn't the one. She just desperately needed the attention and the validation that two men wanted her (she was still boasting about it on the red carpet at the Reality TV Awards) ...

Hers was a great season for TV but ABC definitely didn't pick the most sincere woman for the show.

Ang Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 02:24 AM EST

Chris - Applaud! Applaud! Great first blog! Loved hearing about behind the scenes and your funny comments. I am a faithful watcher since Aaron's season. In fact, I live in the same town as Aaron. Loved that season, of course! Look forward to seeing next week's episode and your next blog. Take care!

Nancy Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 01:46 AM EST

After the first show, the immature, desperate, clawing, simple tweens and Deanna even being a remote possibility, yet AGAIN,finally turned me off the show. It's like watching the Special Olympics of the romantically challenged and self-absorbed. Brad turned out to be the most honest person on the show in some time, instead of the dog most thought. I felt sorry for Jason at first, but how sorry can you be for a man who expects to find a wife on a TV show? Anyone who is as "special" as touted, and can't find a mate/good parent for their child, has something about them that's not right. Why are viewers assumed to be as stupid as the shows players? Deanna is nothing short of a slut, pure and simple. How many men has this chick slept with now? Why bring someone back that is so passionately disliked to either disrupt yet another show or sleep with Jason again? Either way, the Producers aren't offering anything plausible to even hope for. Flakes & Deanna,no thank you! It's the wrong way to go.

mrztreat Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 01:20 AM EST

Chris great job on your first blog! I really think this is actually my first post on a blog! I love the Bach./ette show. Its the only show I faithfully watch. Last year my mom threw a birthday party for me, it wasn't my fault the finale of the Bachelor fell on 7/7 last year! I stayed glued to the tv while my guests visited my mom! (my sister joined me though). Awesome blog, definately an answer to a need for us hungry for more. I could hardly stand to wait for this season! BTW if that beautiful widowed mother doesn't win this show...could we please get her on the Bachelorette. She seemed so lovely and what a precious daughter!
~kim

Lisa Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 01:11 AM EST

Just for the record, I liked Jesse.
Maybe he was too good for DeAnna, but that wasn't his fault.

Lesley Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 12:04 AM EST

Yeah for your blog, this will be fun. So glad you mention the Billy Bob awful teeth, just cause she works in that field doesn't mean she should make a fool out of herself. Hope DeAnna's appearance is for the hype and exits quickly......poor Jesse.

Why the Spoiler in the Previews? Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:21 PM EST

I'm assuming that both girls at the end are wearing the same lavender flowy dress, because if not, it's quite a spoiler they've showed several times now in the previews.

Matt2 Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:14 PM EST

It is such an honor to actually get to touch base with you Mr. Harrison. I have so many questions and thoughts running through my brain. Luckily alot of the guys that have responded on here have echoed several of my same thoughts and questions. I do want to say we love the show. It's not a show like Dancing With the Stars or Extreme Home Makeovers that we watch as an entire family unit, but me and my lady do sit down together and enjoy the romance and soulmate search each week. I believe Jason's heart is still with Deanna and I hope she doesn't stomp all over it this time. That would just crush him. If he comes to his senses he'll pick that elegant southern belle from Alabama, Stephanie. She'd be a dedicated wife and good mom to Ty. Regardless of the final outcome, you and your associates do a magnificent job of magnaging this long running program and I believe this family guy and his lady will make it last like Trisha and Ryan. Congrats on the huge popularity and success of this show.

michelle Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:08 PM EST

who designs the houses? they are all beautiful!!!!

Dottie Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 10:50 PM EST

Hi Chris:
I am so excited that you are now a blogger, and going to give some of the behind scene activity. You have a great since of humor. I've watched you on Hollywood 411, and liked the show. I know you are friendly with a lot of the people who have been on the show. Hope they send some comments.
I am a little embarrassed for the girls being sent back in a van. All dressed in evening wear. Wonder what they have to say. Did not like Deanna returning. She is not liked by many fans. I feel for Jason, having to face this moment. He is a gentlemen and I'm sure he handled it well. I'm looking forward to your next blog. Good work.

Little Miss Sunshine Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 10:23 PM EST

*Reliving Jason's half proposal to Deanna at the top of the show was tough. Still not sure why she left him down there so damn long.

I am so glad they showed that. Last season I knew that happened, but when they didn't show that on the finale and show Deanna for the witch she truly was I was royally p.o.'ed. Knowing that she let him stay down that long just proves what a true witchy witch she is.

Cory Craig Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 10:12 PM EST

Sorry Chris gave you wrong address first post... This post has right address...
