Britney Spears' new single, 'If You Seek Amy': Cheeky or Childish?

Jan 13, 2009, 11:26 AM | by Mike Bruno

Categories: Britney Spears, Have You Seen This?, Music, Sexytimes

Britneyspears_l The natural first reaction, once you discover the hidden meaning embedded in the title of Britney Spears' third single from Circus (if you say it fast, it spells something out) is a big ol' eye roll. Hardy har har, Brit. You're oh-so naughty. That was definitely my reaction when the brouhaha first started up after the song appeared on the album's tracklist. But now "If You Seek Amy" is set for radio play, and it's actually ruffling feathers as station managers wonder if the title, which in and of itself is not profane, of course, will earn them FCC fines. And suddenly, I'm smirking at how this little gag is pushing the envelope buttons. MTV, for instance, talked to Patti Marshall, program director at Cincinnati's Q102, who said the song's chorus is tantamount to "a little boy in sixth grade doing arm farts." If the song (embedded after the jump) falls flat, then so does the gag (personally, I think it sounds WAY too similar to "Womanizer"). But I gotta say, arm farts in the classroom have a naughty, irreverent appeal.

What say you, PopWatchers? Take our poll and let us know what you think of Britney's play on words.

First of all samie,"licking a lollipop" is totally diferent from "if u seeking someone" so stop it cuz i think we both now which song is wrong. How are little kids gonna be singing that? THEY ARE CURSING!

brittani Wed, May 27, 2009 at 06:47 PM EST

ok seriously why are you critising her for? like seriously i want you to try be her. so i would just shut your face ok . she has done an outstanding job she might of screwed up but you proabably would of killed yourself by now so ya.and anyways you proabably liked her when you were younger because i know i did!!! im not afraid to admit @!!!!!!1

Charlotte Butler Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 07:10 AM EST

samie Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 07:09 PM EST

omg grow up ppl!!! my cheer team used this for a routine and we compete NATIONALLY! if lil wayne can say 'she licks me like a lollipop' on the radio then who says britney cant say 'if u seek amy' its rediculous. 9 year olds dont know what it means and if they do then so what. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT THEN SHUT UP AND DONT LISTEN TO IT cuz there are plenty of ppl who love it and all this crap about the song is just an excuse to trash britney. WE LOVE U BRITNEY!!! STAY STRONG AND KEEP DOIN WAT U DO!!!

Kirby Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 03:48 AM EST

TO START OF WITH ALL YOU SAD BEINGS....ITS A SONG!!! I HAVE HEARD MUCH WORSE IN THE LYRICS OF A SONG AND HERE WE ARE ALL THINKING THAT "SEEKING AMY" IS SOOO BAD AND WRONG TO BE HONEST WITH YOUS IT JUST GIVES THOSE 'WE HATE BRITNEY SAD ACTS' A REASON TO HAVE A DIGG. A LITTLE TIP FROM ME TO YOU... MOVE ON AND GET ON WITH YOUR SOOO WONDERFUL LIFE AND JUST DONT LISTEN TO HER SONGS IF THEY GRIND ON YOU SOO MUCH. SIMPLE YOU MUPPETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

YO MAMI Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 08:28 AM EST

i like da beat to dis song but it obviously doesnt make sense to say if you seek amy and means to you know.....she shud at least tell the truth about da song you know so there wont be so much commotion going on. me myself i dont really like the words becuz she doesnt really care about herself you know she is giving herself up pretty much she is not being a good romodel for younger girls.

Shaney Boy I think you gotta get your english right before you start trying to slag people off! Just a little thought for you!!

Shaney Boy Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 07:38 PM EST

And shes a freakin idiot for trying to state that all the boys and girls want to have sex with her. For all I know shes a promiscous ho, if not a hooker that probly has a variety of viruses and sexually transmitted disease. I'm not bring her home to introduce to my parents, or relitives. Shes for desperate idiots with crappy morals. Who sexually exploits herself to the world, by singing stupid songs that ryme. making a song like that requires no intelligence, wisdom, experience or talent atol. Its like a tattoo near a girls behind, that porno stars do to basically label themselfs as objects, toys only usefull for one thing. Its awfull, and its not just this Britney Spears person thats packing our world with these profanitys.

Shaney Boy Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 07:29 PM EST

The song is pathetic. "all the boy and all the girls are beggin to if you seek amy", it makes no grammatical sense atol. It is obviously meaning something else, its medifore. It would be meaningless if it wasn't. Its horrible, shes a young woman with 2 kids, what a good romodel, we really need more of that in the world (sarcasm)

Daniel Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 04:35 PM EST

Ridiculous! I don't know what all the fuss is about? Radio stations shouldn't be indulging this childish school yard prank by refusing to play it. It's stirring up unnecessary hysteria around a song that to be quite honest, doesn't deserve the attention. It's the same old boring fluff that floods our pop charts... Yawn! It's a cheap and cunning move by Britney and her record company to sucker in all those poor impressionable kids. They're going to lap it up! No wonder our kids are all #$@&!% up with role models like this. Britney should go back to what she does best and that's being a crack whore! Do us all a favour and disappear into obscurity please!

HannahBanana Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 08:22 PM EST

I don't care what anyone says....THIS SONG IS AWSOME!!!!! And its def my favorite song rite now. She totally duz spell the naughty phrase but y the fuss????? The beat is great and its so "Britney" I mean cmon its a sexy song. Maybe she liked the song cuz she knew it was going to b such a fuss. Maybe that was a smart move. I really hope the don't "Clean it up" cause this song is amazing and it shud not be changed. Maybe it is too hot for radio but not too hot for ME!!!!

kara Sun, Feb 1, 2009 at 09:08 PM EST

i think it's sort of like a metaphor for her life, even when her life was going out of control, people were still really intereted in her and followed her around and couldn't get enough of her! i love this song and it doesn't even swear, it just sounds liek it lol.

carnije Sat, Jan 31, 2009 at 12:34 PM EST

seriously this track is clever and its real. she says "all the boys and all the girls are Beggin to if u seek amy" and honestly what guy or bi female doesnt want to tap that. people tryin to protest her song just aint got nothin better to do in life but wish they had her success!

azno Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 10:16 AM EST

ok there worried about hidden meaning when theres song out there that have the meaning straight forward.

EW really needs to stop brown-nosing Rhianna and Katy Perry. Stop trying to find deep meaning in a Britney Spears song. This is a great pop song and an instant hit.

andi Sun, Jan 18, 2009 at 01:49 PM EST

this song is sofa king stupid how's that?

Jonathan F. Sat, Jan 17, 2009 at 04:14 AM EST

SCANDAL

MultiPass Sat, Jan 17, 2009 at 12:34 AM EST

Catchy enough to be a hit without the controversy. Lots of press because of the controversy, a built in adolescent audience who will eat this up and spring for it on Itunes, surely a club fave... It's a predestined hit and a guaranteed ringtone hit. Giggle all the way to the Bank, Brit.

Ken Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 08:25 PM EST

What is a 'jump'?
Why can't you just say 'embedded below'?

Mary Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 06:31 PM EST

IAW some of the other commenters. The song fails not because it's "naughty" or "cheeky, " but because "If You Seek Amy" means absolutely nothing when taken literally. They tried so hard to put some kinda naughty double-entendre into the song that it seems forced and lame when it's supposed to be clever.

Jamie Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 02:25 PM EST

I LOVE THIS SONG... one of my favorites on the album! People need to relax. With all the lewd and suggestive rap songs on mainstream radio talking about the candy shop and licking the lollipop. I don't think a kid would get the underlying context of If You Seek Amy. Everyone just wants to keep Britney down.

Jimi Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 01:18 PM EST

I think the song is clever and catchy, which is all it was meant to be.. a good pop song.. period. As for 9 year olds walking around singing this song - Anybody who buys a Britney Spears CD for a 9 year old should really reconsider being a parent. she hasn't been marketed for children since the mickey mouse club.

Jer Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 08:21 PM EST

One thing for sure is that it's not Britney or her people making a big deal about it. It's the media as usual.

nick Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 03:49 PM EST

If you don't want your young daughters listening to it, then don't let them listen to it! Have some more control over your children. When the song comes on the radio, change the station. Big deal. There are plenty of other songs on the radio with suggestive lyrics. Why does Britney garner all the scrutiny? Britney Spears isn't trying to make music for 8 year old girls. Stop acting like she MUST be a role model for your children.

monica Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 03:31 PM EST

lol now i get it. yeah it's pervy, but i think it's even funnier that she probably didn't think of this herself. poor kid.

Paula Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 02:15 PM EST

Jen...it does make sense. "All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to (have sex) with me." I had never heard of this play on words. I think it's silly. It's like Madonna still kissing girls. Doesn't shock anyone.

bonnie Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 02:09 PM EST

I actually quite like this song. It may be the most listenable song she's done in years.

Liar Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 01:22 PM EST

I doubt you even heard the whole album. Because if you did and you heard Blur or Out From Under you would hear her really trying to stretch vocally. She never said she was the best singer. But she just makes good dance music. How is it that EW can say Fergie and Katy are great and bash Britney.

Jen Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 11:59 AM EST

I don't think it should be approved for airplay. She says "All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy." That makes NO SENSE whatsoever as a sentence on it's own. It ONLY works as a lewd reference. I can't imagine little 9 year olds at the mall walking around singing this song. I wish Britney would quit trying to be suggestive in everything she does, and spend that energy getting some vocal lessons or something. She sings this whole album through her nose!

John Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 10:12 AM EST

Nancy, you're Christina Aguilera comparison is stupid. They are completely different songs with completely different meanings. You're entire argument is baseless and all you're doing is trying to cause up drama and further the Christina vs Britney argument. Get over it.

alex Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 11:55 PM EST

This song is better than anything that Katy Perry puts forth. It's nothing spectacular, but it's still a fun pop song with a good beat for anyone who's into this kind of music. The Britney bashing is getting really old. People are just looking for any reason to rag on her. Get a life and leave her alone. I'm not even a fan of hers either. Someone else hit the nail on the head; if this was Katy Perry's song, a bunch of you would be saying "oh how clever and fun! Katy Perry is so cool!" Katy Perry sucks, her music sucks, and she is not interesting in the least.

Kath Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:48 PM EST

And for the record, it's older than James Joyce. Shakespeare, Twelfth Night:

"By my life, this is my lady's hand! these be her very C's, her U's, and her T's; and thus makes she her great P's."

This also works because it makes literal sense. He's talking about her penmanship. He didn't just make up some tangential quasi-character named Amy just to make a dumb pun.

Kath Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:43 PM EST

Yes, that part makes perfect sense, but the literal, non-sexual meaning of the line doesn't.

As a comparison, here's a famous film quote, spoken by Lauren Bacall:

"You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."

Clear innuendo, but the sentence still stands on its own. That's why it works.

cranky Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:23 PM EST

News flash-- Brit suffers from rare "Benjammin Button" disorder and is aging in reverse! She's 12 years old now, and in 6 years she'll be covering Barney and the Doodlebops.

Andrew Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 10:10 PM EST

Kath, it actually DOES make grammatical sense.

All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to F.U.C.* ME

Kath Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 08:13 PM EST

Totally childish. It's an attempt at a double entendre that fails because "all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy" DOES NOT MAKE ANY KIND OF GRAMMATICAL SENSE.

RayT Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 08:00 PM EST

...and by the way, this is NOT even the song! Whoever posted this verson on YouTube completely chopped it up. The first verse is looped twice and the second verse and bridge have been cut out. Here's the actual song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y539AdS-XP4&feature=related

RayT Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 07:53 PM EST

I think a lot of people are missing the real meaning of this song. Yeah, she's spelling out the big, bad F-word, but I don't think it's about sex at all. "All of the boys and all of the girls" want to F her in the sense that they want to destroy her or bring her down, a concept that fits perfectly for someone who has been in an uphill battle for respect from the media for a decade. The verses are sung from the perspective of a crazed fan searching for Amy (a pseudonym for Britney) wanting to be near her and to follow her around ("I can't get her off of my brain." "I just want to go to the party she gon' go.") but at the same time defeat or stop her.

kada Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 07:33 PM EST

britney should go "If you seek-A" herself..why are peaople listenning to this!

Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 06:54 PM EST

"If Katy Perry or Rihanna was putting this out as a single everyone would be lauding it's freshness and friskiness. Because it's Britney, so many people are trying to rationalize not wanting to like a smoking hot pop song."

I COMPELTELY AGREE.

Katy Perry can sing about kissing a girl for the fun out it, make references to her CHERRY chapstick (come on, it's not like you didn't notice that), and that's okay.

But when Britney does something that might be the least bit provacative, people freak out. How ridiculous.

Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 06:52 PM EST

I really don't think Britney is trying to "push the envelope" here, and to assume she is - well, it's kind of stupid.

It's just a dance song with some clever word play. I doubt when she heard it, she laughed "OH MY GOD THAT IS HILARIOUS EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE SO SURPRISED ABOUT THIS SONG, I LOVE IT, IT WILL BE SO FAMOUS"

She probably thought "That's cute, I like the beat"

Who cares? It's NOT that bad. It obviously will never be released as a single because they would have to bleep so much of the song. So why complain? There's A LOT worse songs out there..

Yogi Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 06:30 PM EST

Cute song. I'll download it because it's a good dance record. Folks, Brit is not trying to be Barbra Streisand or Celine Dion, she's doing what she does best and put out dance tracks. Stop analyzing the girl so much and just work out to it or blast it on the radio on the way to work like I do.

fancypants to LC Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 06:05 PM EST

The average Britney fan doesn't know who James Joyce is, let alone have the mental capacity to read and understand Ulysses. But having just finished the novel a few weeks ago, I LOVE and appreciate the reference!

bruno Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 05:25 PM EST

so. awesome.

Luisa Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 05:08 PM EST

Kind of annoying. Maybe it's a clever way of getting around the censors or whatever, by why bother with this mediocre song?

JP Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:56 PM EST

She cannot sing period.

Emma Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:44 PM EST

It's a bit more catchy than Circus, which was simply too much of a dance track (but just not hip enough). As for the title, it's just funny.

Phil Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:33 PM EST

Johnny, I'm inclined to believe that "Circus" will indeed re-enter the top 10 Billboard Hot 100, but I highly doubt it will exceed its peak of #4. If you notice when artists have had two songs in the top 10 lately, such as Beyonce or Kanye West, one song pays the price, and don't get me wrong, I enjoy "Circus" thoroughly, but I think its not going higher than #4 now unless it enjoys a second shot in the arm or some sick remix, but that seems unlikely if JIVE is already gearing up to promote the 3rd single, which got a nice shot in the arm with this blog item and the Mtv.com story yesterday. JIVE has played the "Circus" hype out, it went top 5, primarily due to digital sales, & video sales. I could be wrong, but I think "Circus" is going to fall prey to "Womanizer"'s second life rising back up the charts.

Chris Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:30 PM EST

Amazing song.
Hope the prudes dont try to 'censor it'
Its such a cool song

B- Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:29 PM EST

Her next single should have been Shattered Glass. But I like this song. It's nice to hear more of a throwback Baby One More Time Britney here. Anyhow, I still think Blur is the most underrated song on her CD.

LC Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:22 PM EST

It's the oldest trick in the book. James Joyce coined the now popular phrase "If You See Kay" in his novel Ulysses from 1922. Yeah, he meant exactly what you think he meant too! Many, many songs have used it since then (including my favorite, by the Poster Children in '91).

tma Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:02 PM EST

Geeze Im dense... it took me way too long to get why that title could be considered bad. Now that I get it , I think its kinda funny and clever. The song sounds like cookie cutter britney music.

KIt Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 04:00 PM EST

I've already heard this in several clubs and its been a big hit! Congrats Brit!

MeMe Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:50 PM EST

What a rip off! DashRipRock (who are from New Orleans) did it years ago with If You See Kay!

kristen Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:49 PM EST

"if you seek amy" is my fav song on her new album. i definitely laughed really hard the first time i listened to it. i love it!

Karikata Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:42 PM EST

awww man the next single should have been "Mannequin" or "Kill The Lights". boo Britney Booo.

Johnny Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:40 PM EST

Actually Phil, Circus, the title track has been at #12 on the Hot 100 for the past few weeks. I think it can re-enter the top 10 once overally airplay picks up since the single is still selling strongly.

Classy Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:39 PM EST

It's the best song on the album and will be the best song on the radio. I didn't roll my eyes at all when I caught on to the play on words. It's bloody clever and it'll be interesting to see how they choose to censor it, seeing as she's not actually saying anything profane-it just sounds like it. The beat is bangin and the lesbian-esque lyrics are tantalizing. If Katy Perry or Rihanna was putting this out as a single everyone would be lauding it's freshness and friskiness. Because it's Britney, so many people are trying to rationalize not wanting to like a smoking hot pop song. No matter. It's going to the top just like "Womanizer" which, so many said wasn't good enough for a comeback single, is still going so strong. If the video is on point for this 3rd single of Brit's, it's going to take over big time.

D Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:28 PM EST

I prefer "Lace & Leather", it's a better song IMHO..hope it gets released as a single...

Phil Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:15 PM EST

"If U Seek Amy" already has a built in controversy due to the message in the music. And finally, its also a song thats instantly catchy at both mainstream pop stations, and yet has enough of a beat to be played on rhythmic stations that tend to play mainly hip-hop & R&B songs, which are again currently having success with "Womanizer". Sometimes you have to see the bigger picture regardless of where you live. Some people are unaware that technically San Francisco, CA is one of the LARGEST markets in the country and yet, NO POP STATION. The closest they come is Wild 94.9 and I assure you this is definitely the kind of song they'd support, if the racy lyrics make it by the Clear Channel brain trust, that is...

Phil Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:12 PM EST

To tj086 - MTV.com ran this story yesterday, EW blogger Mike Bruno prolly read it like me, and is now continuing the blogging here, so if you want to point a finger, start with MTV! I mentioned this track on a separate EW blog the week "Circus" was released because I thought the lyrics were in reference to Britney's late night hook-ups with a drug dealer at the clubs, instead of the tongue-in-cheek lyrics saying without actually saying to screw her. Now, here's WHY bloggers are talking about this supposed 3rd single. As always 1. To keep Britney's name out there, esp. since "Circus" hasn't been in the Billboard Hot 100 for a few weeks since "Womanizer", thou already peaked at #1 seems to be enjoying a climb back into the top 5 due to airplay support from Rhythmic Radio stations. This frequently happens & prevents artists' 2nd single from albums from being bigger hits, see Nelly Furtado's "Maneater". Brit's label, JIVE has to keep her momentum going, esp. with her tour starting soon.

Al Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:07 PM EST

Has anyone contemplated the irony of this EW writer calling the track title childish, and not even being able to type "F.U.C.K Me" because this is EW. LOL, the FCC pushes people to such ridiculous length's to say fukk. See, I can't even type it without it getting blurred or me having to retype this completely.

jen Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 03:00 PM EST

i can't wait to see the video though, that should be interesting... maybe there'll be some girl playing Amy?

Clyde Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:59 PM EST

I would eat her Essay Chai Tea!

jen Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:51 PM EST

i got a huge chuckle out of the song when i first realized what the chorus was "really" saying. i love it, it's just funny. i never thought it would be a single though, for just the reasons mentioned here, like how is radio supposed to play it without censoring the chorus?

Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:51 PM EST

lol, i really couldn't figure it out, despite saying it fast quite a few times. I read the comments and someone said it's "F.U.C.K. Me", and I thought "Ohhhhh." But it's childish, and charmless. I mean come on, why not just grow some balls and actually call the track "FU@K ME".

Lauren Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:48 PM EST

That's incredibly lame. But mostly because it only works if you purposefully enunciate weird.

Amber Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:17 PM EST

Ok I must admit that I've had the album since it came out last month and I always loved this song but never really understood what it meant, like others I thought it was about finding drugs. OK so it's not the cleverest but I love the beat.

Kalie Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:13 PM EST

Childish.

David Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 02:04 PM EST

I love it
F u c k me!!!!!!!!
It's clever

Brett Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:50 PM EST

Sorry...anyone that has to read through the comments to figure out what it means probably shouldn't be calling it "childish"....otherwise you probably should have picked up on it sooner.

j Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:44 PM EST

Oh Britney, you saucy minx. You've mastered 12 year old locker room humor. What's next? Knock-knock jokes?

Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:44 PM EST

I love this song! It's fun and I can't wait to hear it on the radio. Next she needs to release "Kill the Lights". that song is so glittery.

Amy Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:37 PM EST

After saying it aloud a lot of times, I never got it. so I read the comments below to see what it stood for, and it's really lame... eye roll reaction that came from me. This also does not have to do with the fact that my name is Amy either.

It's Childish...

bro Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:35 PM EST

get a grip people. it's not really possible for them to have a line in the song which works both ways with 'if you seek amy' and 'f-*-c-k me'.

Jesse Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 01:28 PM EST

Loving it! I am not a big Britney fan but I can't get this song out of my head. If You Seek Amy is defenitly a great pop song. What is with the womanizer comparison? they sound nothing alike. I wasn't really into Womanizer but this song is tight!

I have to say, the first time I heard this song, I thought, "WTF? Is this some new game that's sweeping the club nation? Is seeking Amy a euphemism for doing coke?" I had to listen to it at least three more times to get it.

Here's the thing: If "I Kissed A Girl" was kind of crass and (more than) a little slutty, then "If You Seek Amy" is a full-on whore job. Katy Perry's song is like the coy little high-schooler who might do stuff with you in the parking lot after school, but is probably just flirting to flirt. Britney's song is more like an aging, desperate hooker who needs your money in order to pay her pimp or else she'll get yet another black eye.

The song isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is, but if I ever hear it when I'm at a club, I (and probably everyone else) will be too busy dancing like a fool and singing along to care. It's not a great choice for a radio single (Unusual You and Mannequin are both better), but it's a heck of a lot better than Womanizer.

How lame that this post doesn't have a link to the actual song.. What a lazy blogger.

This would all matter more if Britney didn't stink. On toast. Neener!

I love the current teen pop now that I am an adult, and it makes me all the more angry that I was offered such garbage as an actual teen.

On first listen, it's an eye-roller. But then it gets stuck in your head like a pop song should. Love it!

I'm not a Britney fan but I must admit it's some quite original wording, specially for a pop song. I'm glad to see her back from her personal tour through Amy's black.

You people are a bunch of haters. Britney didn't rip of Christina... she's singing about people wanting to sleep with her and Christina is singing about telling one person to eff off. Seriously, people. Get over it, listen to the song, and start liking it!!!!!!

ok, I actually had to read comments below to figure out what it meant. I was saying it fast and all I could come up with was "If You Sicka Me" I am getting old.

LOL@"boobless"!!! Oh man, right back to 4th grade.

For anyone saying the lyrics are silly or don't fit well, it't not meant to be taken literally...the full chorus is "Love me, hate me, say what you want about me, but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to f-@-c-k me"- the girls are not trying to actually seek out Amy.....

Was there this much fuss when Van Halen titled an album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge?

Cara Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 12:30 PM EST

Yeah, say it out loud a couple times, you'll get it. As for me, I happen to think it's one of the cleverest innuendos in a pop song, ever. This is just who Britney is--the virgin/whore, she's been playing that role ever since she showed up. and we're still listening, so no way we can penalize her for doing what she does best.

FU Scott Storch (FUSS) - Scott Storch produced on her previous album and apparently demanded a bunch of money to work on Back to Basics. iF yoU C(seeK) amy. Look at the capital letters and you'll get the meaning. Not very clever. I know I'm driving the Britney fans crazy, but it appears that someone on Britney's team looked at Christina's CD (and probably other artists as well), just looking for what they could rip off.

Seriously Folks.... Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 12:21 PM EST

"IF You Seek Amy" = "F-you-C-K ME"...

Also, if type 55378008 into a calculator and then turn it upside down it looks like "boobless".

Such wit.

if you seek amy = F-U-C-* Me, to those below

and also fuss is to scott storch, kind of like a diss record, f.u.s.s. is an acronym for f***-You-Scott-Storch
