Behold! 2008's top Yahoo! searches

Fergiewrestling_lHappy year-in-review day, P-Dubs. Yahoo! just released its Top Searches lists for 2008 -- there are plenty of repeats from last year's list (Britney Spears, WWE, Lindsay Lohan), but poor Fergie (pictured, smacked down) and a few others have been demoted to the vast wasteland of No. 11 and beyond. I'm disappointed that my top search, "nachos platter stretchy cheese," did not ooze its way onto the list, but I'll live. The most intriguing repeat ranker? Naruto. "WTF is Naruto?" asked low life form Michael Slezak in an IM just now. "I thought maybe Naruto was like a pan-flute octet from Peru." Hell no. Naruto is obviously an ongoing Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto with an anime adaptation. Get it right.

Other notable winners: Hurricanes (News), "It's Miley!!!!" (Celebrity Brat Pack), Heath Ledger (Farewells), and my personal favorite, IRS Stimulus Checks (Economy). Thanks to TechCrunch for the tip.

Compare this year's list with last year's after the jump. Is your top pop culture-related search on the list? If so, congratulations! You are "normal."

Yeah WWE is that popular. Im a huge football fan, but WWE is more popular then football and soccer combined. It got more attention then the Superbowl.

Runescape and Naruto are crazy popular among kids and teens. I work at a public library and kids will spend hours playing Runescape and searching for Naruto stuff. Thats how they got on this list.

Bleach is far away from Naruto

This link will answer those unaware of Naruto and RuneScape:

Anyway, Naruto is that popular? Even though I still keep up with the manga, I had no idea it got searched that much. Bleach, another popular shounen manga, can't be too far behind.
As for Paris Hilton falling off, it's because she hasn't done much in 2008 that warrants a search, thanks to her controlling boyfriend she just broke up with (don't ask how I knew that). I wish he stuck around, because we all need the relief...
RuneScape is a poor man's version of World of Warcraft (which, if you don't know, is a massive multiplayer RPG). Pretty appropriate, since it's offered for free, as opposed to WoW's fees. I'm surprised it's still around, because I tried it once as far back as 2001.
As for the WWE, I didn't think it still had that influence either. I stopped viewing around...well...2001 again.

What the hell with WWE? Is it that popular? More than football?

WTF is RuneScape? Am I that out of the loop?

I feel some comfort in Paris Hilton falling off the list..
