Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Gabon' (episode 13)

Dec 12, 2008, 12:02 AM | by Jeff Probst

Categories: 'Survivor', About Last Night, Reality TV, Television, Things That Are Awesome!

Survivorgabon_l_2 Well, as the year comes to a close, it's time to start looking at award-worthy performances. Here's my vote for Best Performance by a Duo in a Reality Competition Series About Adventure That Takes Place in Exotic Locations and is Hosted by a Dashing Fella With a Keen Way About Him.

Bob: (clearly distressed over lying to Kenny) If I win the next immunity I'll give it to you.

Kenny: (Long Pause) Okay.

And...scene.

I don't know who should win the acting award, but both Bob and Kenny gave stellar performances. I don't believe Bob was sorry for one second. He is playing the game. Just like Kenny. On the other hand, Kenny's sad "poor me" performance was so understated, so restrained that it almost warrants a spot at the final tribal council.

Bob was never going to give him the necklace, but damn, I do appreciate Kenny's bravado. Plead for the necklace while you're planning Bob's blindside. Awesome. Kenny is setting himself up for a major ass whuppin'...or a million dollars. I love this kid. Love him.

I miss Crystal already. I really do. She's fun to pick on, and she always, and I mean always, had something to say at tribal council. The woman was gold. Not bronze. Not silver. Gold. As in gold medalist.

Favorite moment of the episode: Crystal trying so hard to prove her physical prowess that at the end of the reward challenge she actually attempted to dunk a ball on a four foot goal...that she towered over...and still missed.

Second favorite moment: Watching Crystal try to make her way through the immunity challenge. We couldn't include every moment she went off the course, otherwise the challenge would still be going. To her credit, Crystal has always had a sense of humor about her lack of ability in challenges. Doesn't change the fact that she sucked. She did.

Side note: When Bob was choosing two people to join him on reward, I said, "Two's fun, three's a party." It was an innocent comment. My friend, Serena, felt there was a sexual connotation to the comment. I was appalled. Those kind of dirty and inappropriate thoughts simply do not occur to me. When I am hosting, I am focused. Laser beam precision. Tunnel vision. The thought that somehow I had a Freudian slip that would reveal the truth of what I'm really thinking about out there is simply silly. Now, had it been my other friend, Alexis, who said it, it might have some validity; she's a bit of a psych job, so in an odd way her thinking often makes sense. Yes, I know I Just mentioned two women in the same sentence. Doesn't mean anything. Okay, moving onto the next position, sorry I mean topic.

Sugar is a factor in this game. The sweet little pin-up model is very close to crying her way into the final. Who would ever think she would still be here this long? Not me. Never. How does it happen season after season? She wasn't even picked when they ranked their tribes. She wasn't picked! Then again, Bob was picked very late, so maybe all it means is that Marcus isn't as brilliant as he claims!! Ah-ha!!

Okay, fine. Another gross exaggeration on my part. Marcus actually had the highest IQ of everyone this season. If you want to know who had the second highest IQ, watch the reunion show. I think you will be surprised.

No, I've never taken the IQ test we give them. Because ignorance is bliss. No, I don't feel the need. Just back off. What? Why? That's crazy, I don't have anything to prove. I get paid whether I'm smart or not. Stop it. Go. Would you just go. I have to finish my blog.

Sorry about that. My inner voice – drives me nuts sometimes.

So, as we head into the finale, we are down to five: Sugar, Susie, Kenny, Matty, and Bob.

Sugar is in an excellent spot to make it to the final vote. I'll give her credit. She has done a very good job of staying in this game and staying out of the way. She's survived a record number of days on Exile, she handled the power of the immunity idol beautifully, and she has earned her right to be in the final five. She could easily make it to the final vote.

Susie is a question mark for me. She's riding coattails a bit, for sure, but she has done a good job of offering up her vote to the right people at the right time, and that has kept her out of the line of fire. Don't be surprised if she makes it to the final because everyone thinks they can beat her at the vote.

Matty is a favorite. Has been from day one. I'm so happy he's still in the game. I just like how he wears his heart on his sleeve. Can he win? Yes. Can he make it to the end? Very difficult. He's an obvious target.

Bob is another favorite of mine. Again, from day one. I like his straight-ahead approach, and I have a huge soft spot for Maine. Can he win? Yes. Can he get to the end? It's gonna be tough. He will probably have to win his way there through immunity challenges, otherwise I think they'll take him out. He has too many former tribemates on the jury.

Kenny - I cannot believe Kenny is still in this game. I would have lost my house betting against him making it this far. He has an uphill battle if he's going to win because he has made a ton of enemies. But if he gets to the final with the right person or people, it could happen. Kenny could win this game.

I'll say it right now. All things considered, I'm happy with this final five. There are three people I would be happy to see win and two people that if they win, I'll pretend I'm happy and quickly begin promoting next season.

Remember, the big finale is this Sunday. A two-hour finale followed by the live reunion show where all these knuckleheads will be back together, and you can see who looks good and who looked better on the island.

Now to prove to you that I read your comments, I will answer a few questions:

Where did Bob get the beads to make the immunity necklace…? You can bet I'll be asking him that at the reunion show.

Why did I throw Bob's fake immunity idol in the fire? Because that is what you do when someone plays a fake immunity idol! What, are you new? I totally understand that it was a work of art, and yes, it pained me to do it, but...is this an art exhibit or Survivor? Get over it. He can make another one. And if you want to see what's left of it, tune into the reunion show. Maybe I fished it out of the fire for him...or maybe I'll be wearing it around my neck...or maybe I'll just give it to Serena and call it a day.

Regarding loved ones – there is clearly no right or wrong answer. Those of you who hate the loved ones episodes have miserable lives. Those of us who cry and enjoy the loved ones episodes for their outpouring of emotion are beautiful, loving, wonderful human beings without whom the world would be a dark and dreary place. Welcome to the light, Dalton Ross.

To Dr. Zenith – thanks for the casting ideas, but I have to comment on the assertions that you and especially David Ellen (David, you made the blog!) continue to make: that we manipulate the game so that our favorites can win. Is the medication you're currently taking prescribed or do you buy it on the streets? If we could dictate who would win each season, then the following people never would have won: Tina in Australia, Vecepia in Marquesas, that soft-core porno dude in Thailand, Jenna in the Amazon, Sandra in Pearl Islands, Amber in All-Stars, Earl in Fiji, and Parvati in Fans vs Favorites! All of those just listed people definitely deserved to win because they played the best game, but that doesn't mean they would have been our first choice to win. We would have picked more "colorful" winners. Plain and simple. I'm kind of stumped that people still believe this stuff.

Oh, for the record, they don't have toilets or toilet paper, showers or soap, or make-up, or beds, or secret food stashes, or anything else that would make it more tolerable. The game is real. The game is hard.

To "JeffProbstRocks" – you can come over and watch Survivor at my house. Don't hate those poker chip-throwing friends of yours; envy is difficult, try to understand. That's what I do.

Once and for all – the final three vs final two debate. It's a matter of choice. Personally I believe that when you have three people in the final you have a better opportunity for a good winner because you cannot simply win the final immunity challenge and then take the least liked person with you to the final vote. For instance, had we planned a final three in Fans vs Favorites, Cirie would have won and everybody would have been happy. But we had a final two planned. So, David Ellen, if we were master manipulators, why not make it a final three and let Cirie win? Enough already. That's just my opinion. For crying out loud, get over it.

And for those of you who don't like us switching up the tribes because it screws you up in your Survivor pool, how about this...no switches next season. Straight Survivor. Is that what you want? Two tribes. No switch. One merge. Final 2. Okay, fine. Done. I'll call CBS and tell them I've made a decision. Just don't blame me when the dude from 'N Sync is hosting next season.

See ya Sunday at the live show!

Now check out our exclusive deleted scene from Survivor: Gabon and then read Dalton's recap.

which 2 contestants did not not want to see win?? personally i think sugar played the best game and i still can't get over the fact that she didn't win. without her, matty would not have made it this far, nor would have bob!! she saved their butts..

Monica Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

Jeff, you are too cute. That dimple of yours melt my heart. I love survivor and can't wait for the next one. I love sugar. Wish her the best of luck.

Help....where an I see the Survivor Gabon Finale? Satelite had problems and so missed most of it...why not re-air it pr pay per view it???

Zinzara Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

Shame I only found your blog recently. I think you missed your calling and are an even better writer than host. Congrats.

Dr Zechariah Zenith Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:08 AM EST

Congrats to Bob.

Sugar in the eyes of the jurors is a crybaby, but she has won the hearts of many. She has redeemed herself and made it possible for a tie. Even though she didnt won, she is still a winner in my book.

The KOTA Fantastic 4 of Mr. Fantastic Marcus, Human Torch Charlie, Mr. Thing Randy and NOT Invisible Woman Corrine dediced the votes for Bob.

Fang Furious Four of Ken, Crystal and Matty went for Suzie.

If there would be an All Star. 4 people from this group would make it.

1. Bob - the Wizard from Maine.
2. Sugar - the Princess of Tears.
3. Randy - grumpy old man.
4. Corrine - Ice Queen (dethroning Jerri Manthey)

Jeff, thanks for taking the time to read our comments and pointing us out too. I am a Survivor fan and would always be a Survivor fan.

I want Survivor to stay. It is the World Cup, World Series, Superbowl of Reality TV shows.

Margaux Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 11:47 PM EST

Will there ever be a Star version of Survivor? i know its a gimmick but ..say Whitney Houston,Courtney Love,Gary Busey..from film, music and tv? Just to see if they can tough out the challenges and primitative living conditions. If anything it will make great drama...
Great blog,Mr.Pobst-handsome picture
too

Kathryn Johnson Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 03:02 PM EST

I assume before a season begins you have set the challenges. Do you have a set order before you see how people perform, and who is performing them, ie more men vs wormen etc. Or, do you switch up the challenges as the season unwinds according to who is there and what will make for more interest?

Susan Gwyn Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

I enjoyed watching this season until the final. Sugar was the only survivor to outwit, outplay and outlast. She did not pander for votes,{Bob} and she did not ride coattails,{Susie}. Sugar was the only real person on the show. It is too bad the 7 cast-offs could not see this. But bitterness lives on.

Kimberlee Sue Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 12:34 PM EST

Bob was pretty quiet, I think he went into shock. I bet he will do something for Sugar if not for his other finalist.

susanne Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

I too agree the FF prize should not go to the Suvivor winner. The biggest surprise for me was... that Bob didn't give it to Sugar. She deserved it and he would not have even been in the final 3 if not for her.

Kimberlee Sue Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 11:56 AM EST

OOPS! I need to pay attention to the blog. Jeff, your dimples are adorable.

to jeff Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 11:45 AM EST

Jeff, have you seen Total Drama Island yet (teletoon network)? it's you!

Kimberlee Sue Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 11:40 AM EST

Bob deserved to win at least as much as any other winner in the show's history - all around great competitor. I was really surprised at the animosity all had for Sugar. She had a good reason to do everything she did. She should have stood up for herself. She played a great game and should have argued her case much better. For instance her chances were better against Matty than Bob in the final three, yet she still gave Bob a chance to prevail in the tie breaker.
Also, I've developed a major crush on Jeff! Anyone know if he is single???

Suz from Canada Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 10:46 AM EST

Please consider a Canada vs US season in the future! Or at least a Canadian location!

Survivor: Algonquin Park would make for a whole new level of "surviving"!

Chris Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 08:16 AM EST

Jeff:

Gabon was one of my favorites. I have to say the best line of the season was your spot on impression of Inspector Poirot from "Murder on the Orient Express" when asking Ace about his accent. Priceless. Thanks for making my night.

Diane Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 02:53 AM EST

Good Show, Jeff. I have been a Survivor fan since your first show. I must say I was disappointed tonight when Bob won both of the monetary prizes!

Please consider changing the rules so the person who wins the Million dollar prize, cannot also win the $100,000 prize. Give the $100,000 to the next vote getter. Half of the fun is seeing who "gets paid". Both Sugar and Matty really needed the money and it would have made people happy to see one of them get it. Giving it to the Million Dollar Winner makes him look greedy and the Survivor "decider's" look clueless. Thanks again, Gabon was breathtaking....

George Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 01:18 AM EST

Hey Jeff,
I don't think for a moment that when you mentioned "three's a party" it was a sexual comment. You are a class act, Jeff, and I enjoy watching you.

Ken Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

Corrine was the most arrogant, smug piece of white trash that has ever been on Survivor. It goes without saying that she is a Florida Gator. My only suprise is that she wasn't wearing jorts and a mullet haircut. She's just bitter that she didn't win and now has to back living in some double-wide.

Patricia Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

Ms. Kaplan---

I am a 70 year old great grandmother, I am not just some crackpot out here.

You may think what you said to Sugar was ok. Let me tell you sweetheart it wasn't. To me, you are the most despicable creature I've ever seen on survivor. I don't feel sorry for you for being so miserable. The one I really feel sorry for is your poor mother, unless she is a bit-- like you. How does that feel Corinne? If we were standing face to face and you said to me what you said to Sugar, I would have slapped you across the face so hard you would have fallen over.

I hate to stoop to your level deary, but I wish you a miserable life and you should rot in hell. Yor are the only person in my whole life that I said that to.

God bless Sugar and her Dad.

The Good Doctor Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:12 PM EST

Question: what's it like after the final tribal council, after votes are cast, and you announce that they'll be read live in the studio? The atmosphere must be a very emotional sort of excitement; everyone's just been through a lot in the last tribal council, feelings are hurt, and I imagine everyone isn't feeling congratulatory. Are the final 2/3 isolated from the rest, are security guards brought out to prevent physical confrontation, etc...

Jason Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

tammy - Susie won 2 immunities to Bob's two. She also had a hand in every jury member's elimination, and she made the key strategic move of the game in knowing when to flip on her original alliance to make a new one. What did Bob do? He admitted he didn't outwit or outplay anyone and admitted to riding coattails.

Jason Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 10:51 PM EST

Why would you be surprised Susie got 3 votes? She was the only person to directly help eliminate every jury member, she won 2 immunities, and she made the single most important move when she flipped on Marcus and that alliance.

ButterflyGirl23 Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

Jeff - Read your blog all season and loved it! I hope that you get to do this again next season, because being the host, we don't often get to see your input.

qigonggal Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

My theory about Corinne...my apologies if you've heard this one already. Safe to say that TV has influenced our culture tremendously. I realize editing can create some pretty colorful characters but having recently re-visited reruns of a popular Vampire Slaying Show (in case I can't say Buffy the Vampire Slayer) I propose the following theory/explanation. Corinne has modeled herself after Cordelia Chase. The 'very mean first 3 seasons' Cordelia. I guess we all need heroes. But I think there is hope for Corinne if like her 'life imitating art' icon, she can surround herself with very tolerant people who, for the most part, ignore her intolerant words and they somehow pull her from the clutches of death a few times, surely after 3 or 4 seasons Corinne can let her character evolve into someone a little softer and with less destructive narcissistic behaviors. Is it possible that everyone is really just scared deep down?

tammy Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 09:34 PM EST

As always a person who did nothing all season is in the final 3. Susie of all people should have been gone along time ago. So much for hoping Matty Bob and Sugar were in the finals as it should have been.

DVJ Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

Why didn't the TV station indicate the delay of the programme?

misty Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 08:22 PM EST

What is going on...why isn't the finale on??

iliketoast Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

Football delayed 60 min. delayed Survivor.

Would love some blog action regarding the finale! Please?

Jimbo Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 07:01 PM EST

What's this I read you wouldn't give the million to the winner? And Jeff, stop coloring your hair!

Shery-Anne Allen Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

Jeff, been watching since very first episode, ever since Rudy made his comment, my husband and I were hooked. I sometimes wonder, truly, what the show would be like if you had a cohost. Not to steal your thunder because you are very stern and fair. I just wonder if a female comment might be interesting. Like how many times do I have to hear the Survivors (who have obviously seen the show before) complain about being tired, hungry, alone, miss their families, blah, blah, blah. What the heck, the basic lack of common sense I see year after year is amazing, and for you must just get boring. Has Survivor ever considered giving each Tribal Council- lor a sheet with their name on so they can see who voted for them? As always, looking forward to the finale and next season. Shake it up just a little!

david ellen Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:28 PM EST

..The supposed entertainment/surprise” quotient of Final 2 vs. 3 is VASTLY overwhelmed by the arbitrarily-wrought damage it does to good strategy by top players who have survived to that point in the game.
4. If I knew that J. Probst actually read this fershlugginer -- that’s Italian -- blog, I wouldn’t have referred to him in non-mensch terms in my complaint re: Final 2/3. Appy-polly-logies!
5. Non-Survivor, shockingly blatant self-promotion. I find that this show is popular among top lawyers in NYC. If any NYC litigators out there would like to work with one of the city’s very few legal recruiters who specialize in litigation placement, you can contact me, and view my profile, on my company’s website, www.jdsearch.com.
Laters, gators

david ellen Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:26 PM EST

3. To those who admire those three. One could go on forever, but just one super-elemental, even-a-kid-could-understand point. It’s the sixteenth damned season of this show -- can someone clue in Sugar and Crystal that you might not want to overtly, proactively, and with finality kiss off the votes of multiple eventual jury members? There’s only seven or nine (or whatever. . .flip a coin, apparently) in total, after all. I refer to Sugar vis-a-vis Corinne and Randy. And Crystal vis-à-vis. . .well, the Universe Outside Crystal.
4. For those who think that Suzie is some kind of strategic genius, let her address the camera in her private interviews and reveal thus, as did Boston Rob did early on in Thailand. She hasn’t because she isn’t.
3. Respectfully, Jeff, any strategic viewer of the show will appreciate my complaint about the ongoing Final 2 vs. 3 mystery. I don’t care whether it’s two or three, just stick with one or the other. TBC. . .

Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

... Generally speaking, re: the need to shake things up, switch-wise, etc., season to season: yeah, I get it. My larger point is particular only to this season’s unnatural -- timing-wise -- second switch which allowed one historically awful team, Fang, to wipe out a superior one. It probably wasn’t the producers’ intent or objective, but their charitable impulse to step in (which, frankly I don’t quite get -- Survivor Palau, anybody?) resulted in what we got. It’s the very off-the-charts lousiness of the original -- including the second iteration -- Fang which bothers viewers like me, who resented the virtual handing over of a knife to it, along with clear accessibility to the throats of the other tribe. The presumed impulse to “even things up” a smidge produced a second-half-season featuring zero-players like Crystal, Sugar, and Suzie. To be continued. . .

david ellen Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

[In which I disagree with Jeff Probst]
Well, huge geek alert: I’m thrilled to have been addressed directly by Jeff P. I like to think I have impeccable tastes – I’m probably deluded -- and Survivor is my favorite show, cross-genre, of all time (um, excluding anything starring Ricky Gervais).
1. Am a huge Howard Stern fan, and it’s always fun to hear Probst on the superfan segments; sorry for outing ya, Jeff. (Can we agree that Jerry O’Connell belonged in that Superfan Challenge about as much as Crystal would’ve belonged in Final Tribal?)
2. Wow, you blew out of proportion, and totally harped on, my throwaway, sarcastic comment about the producers liking Kenny and thus finagling the game -- I do not believe that they manipulate to “pick the winners.” (BTW, why besmirch Brian, one of the ultimate players? He’s a great strategy player and should be admired by all strategy-viewers. Plus, his porn is awesome.) To be continued. . .

Cheryl, I was thinking the same about Sugar! Did you see the video of Corrine and the hair dryer episode at Ponderosa? All the dress up BS for tribal council? She is obviously not on vaccation from life! She didn't play the game, she just played herself!

And to JeffProbstRocks......what a deceivingly well crafted "openly" lust-filled/ evil post. How did that get through deletion review? Just because it is poetically simple doesn't hide the intentions of his mind! Comment crew, please get that one off, it's sick.

Michael Story Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

Jeff, I am getting more and more "into" survivor. I haven't seen every season, but I have seen enough to know that Survivor is "hands down" the best reality show with the "best" host ever. It may be topped some day, by another great visionary such as Mr. Burnett and yourself, but as for now, Survivor is KING! Thank you for great TV, and for your blog. I stopped satellite tv service because of the current economy: I'm cutting costs, and I am tuning in online to watch the shows, and all! Thanks CBS for high-defintion broadcasts! Keep up the good work, and it is so entertaining to check out "all" that is going on around survivor! This is my first read on your blog site, and I am commenting! I hope to be on the show some day, before you retire as host! PS, I don't have a "man" crush on you! I really, truely, dig the show, and Sugar by the way! She has played the game like "no" other. Wearing the HII to a tribal council, and giving it away like that! Bravo, she is entertaining.

Bill Greene Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 01:20 PM EST

To Jeff & Survivor: My wife and I have been watching since 1st Survivor and we will continue as long as you put on the show. Jeff, you are the only host for Survivor, the best. Keep up the surprises and twists. At my work we discuss the episodes the next day, some really good discussions. Keep the game hard, its one of the reasons I watch it every year, to see how people from different walks of life adjust/or not to the elements, people,etc.. Thanks again for a great season. Cant wait for tonite...

John the Israeli Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

Well, the Survivor Jeff won't like to see winning are probably Kenny and Susie. Like, what did Susie do, sans voting off Marcus, sparing us the most predictable winner ever? As for Kenny, I would love to see him winning, but Jeff said there is no way he can.
Bob deserves the nillion more than anyone.
Matty is just strong, but better than nothing for me.
I would NOT like to see giggling, Randy-loathing, crybaby Sugar winning, but it's obvious that Jeff LUUUUUUUUUUUURVES her.

Brigitte Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

Seriously, though, reading the blog has become my favorite part of Survivor. I might even survive not seeing Marcus anymore, though it WILL be hard, but no more Jeff blog? That's a dreadful blow, and just before the holidays too.
Anyway you could keep it up? Pretty, pretty, pretty please? You can talk about anything under the sun, it's the writing and the sense of humor I don't want to lose. Pleeeeease?

Katie Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

Jeff, Just want to say, you're the best host ever. I love your insights and your blogs, and have absolutely no complaints about the show. So keep on doing what you do!

Brigitte Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

Actually, Jeff, that's a no-brainer. Everybody, I mean everybody, (EVEN drop dead gorgeous Elisabeth back then) looks better during the show then all cleaned-up and made-up at the reunion. I could never figure it out.
Except you of course. You're always your same dashing self no matter where you are. (I accept Visa and Paypal, thanks).

Let Canada Play Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 10:13 AM EST

Canada vs USA? Bring it on. That would be the perfect season for the "no switching of tribes" thing that so many people want. I'll even take my million in Canadian $$$.

Holly Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 06:46 AM EST

Jeff- long time survivor fan here. not that im in a Survivor pool or anything. but i would like to see just ONE season straight survivor no switching of tribes. lets just do it once and we will see how it turns out!

Canadienne gal Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 05:52 AM EST

Oh, and KEN for the win! He totally deserves it. And MissM, you're not alone. Boston Rob was the 'Ultimate Survivor' and still is, IMO. :)
CAN-AM, Jeff, CAN-AM..

Canadienne gal Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 05:47 AM EST

Jeff, I agree with George. KISS: Keep it simple, sweetie - F2. Your argument doesn't hold water for F-3, and the suspense factor's toned down, but don't *spring* that on them. 2nd, are you ready at MBP/CBS for Survivor Can-Am? Season GREAT? Bring it on!
The Canadienne - oh and *wink* :)

bringitoncanada Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 03:40 AM EST

I've been watching since day 1 and i've heard so, so many Canadians asking why they can't be on the show. Ok, Jeff take this down:

Season after next, one tribe all American and one tribe all Canadian.

Prepare for anhililation Canada.

vitaminkid Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 02:18 AM EST

Dear Jeff,

Let me summarize this page's wishes for tomorrow:

1/Who has the second highest IQ?

2/Call out the Onion alliance on their chauvinism towards Crystal

3/Where did Bob get his jewelry beads

furies Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 01:34 AM EST

Hey Jeff,

Since I'm never going to make it on the show (I have medication I have to take that I think would keep me out) the next best thing I can think of is to drink a margarita with you while you do some DVD commentary. Seriously! That is what I miss most about the DVDs being released on iTunes and not on DVD . . . no commentaries! And you made that margarita bar sound so great . . . plus, you have fantastic snark, and I can't get enough of snarky people these days.

I thought this was a pretty boring season up until Bob really started making moves . . . I have loved Bob since day one, because after 16 seasons, he found the most creative way to wear his buff. I LOVE THE BOW-TIE!!

And I love this blog - plus you are seriously making me excited about the reunion show, which I usually don't care as much about. Go, JPiddy. I hope there's one last blog about the winner - and reunion show!

Let Canada Play Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 12:40 AM EST

Aww c'mon Jeff, you passed on the most important issue (in my opinion) at the cbs website: Why can't Canadians play this awesome game?

Quincy Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 12:38 AM EST

Thankx for the blogs, they're fun and it's great to get firsthand opinions each week, we fans appreciate that you take the time to do this. And they're funny to boot! My two cents for a future "Survivor" season: get the voices of "Total Drama Island" to compete! I can imagine the evil joy you'd receive in chastising the guy who voices the host character! 8-D

cptndawg1 Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:27 PM EST

Dawgonit Jeff.......First, KUDOS to you for steering Survivor to 18 successful seasons. Although the show has changed considerably from the inception, the premise to OUTWIT-OUTPLAY-OUTLAST the others when suffering the deprivation of not having food, shelter, water, adequate clothing remains to this day....Many of the viewing audience have consistently applied with hopes to be cast into the show, including me....And I will continue, will continue, will continue ad infinitum. An idea has been proferred to MBP for a "SURVIVOR MESSAGE BOARDS" where one can "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED"...Ask Lynne about it..Thanks again for being host of our favorite show...Take care, be well and God Bless......cd1

sherrell3 Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 09:58 PM EST

Who the heck is Serena? I've wondered about this all season!

George Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

"Personally I believe that when you have three people in the final you have a better opportunity for a good winner because you cannot simply win the final immunity challenge and then take the least liked person with you to the final vote."

This would be a valid argument if the final immunity challenge winner didn't end up losing 8/13 times in the final two (Kelly in Borneo, Colby in Outback, Kim in Africa, Neleh in Marquesas, Lill in Pearl Islands, Rob in All-Stars, Danielle in Panama, and even Amanda in the most recent example, Micronesia).

Try again.

Padma Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

Jeff,

I hope you will question Corinne, Marcus, Charlie and Randy as to WHY they gave Crystal such a horrible treatment at Ponderosa.

I will be upset if you don't!

Heather Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

I love it that you left out soft-core porn dude's name. He totally deserves that. I'm still bent that his alliance handed the win to him on a silver platter.

Great to hear your insights on the game. Love ya!

~Heather

toby Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 06:17 PM EST

Jeff,
Are you going to show how horribly Crystal was treated by Marcus, Charlie, Corrine and Randy after she was voted off? These clips were shown on the official Survivor website, but they should be part of the show. I think people need to see how rude, immature and truly awful Marcus, Charlie, Corrine and Randy are. Despite the fact that they refused to talk to her, Chrystal carried herself with maturity and dignity under awful circumstances at Ponderosa.

Carys Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

hey, Jeff, your "three's a party" comment sounded fine to me. In character. You sure do enjoy different things in the show than my husband and I do. We almost stopped watching this season because there were so few likeable people, and those kept getting voted off. We were DELIGHTED to see Randy go. I guess it's a balancing act---if everyone was nice and there was no conflict, it would be dull. But when people are outright nasty, we at our house tune out. We need someone to root for!

Speaking of rooting for people, you seem a little grudging in your respect for Sugar. In fact, in general you tend to admire the men more. Look at the list of winners you don't think should have won---mostly women.

But anyway, I think I agree with you about three people being left who I'd be pleased if they won: my three are Bob, Sugar and Matty.

We really like the job you do as m.c. Keep up the good work.

Rachel Hamel Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

Jeff,
I'd love to see Survivor bring back luxury items! That's always an interesting element to the game. I like the tribe switches, it keeps people on their toes, nobody should be comfortable in their position on the game. As a RN, I'd like to say nothing Marcus has done surprises me. Typical arrogant, condescending, God complex. Corinne is a necessary evil. Every episode needs someone we love to hate, and we really hate her!

Johan Vitalis Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

Bravo Sugar!!!

To your credit I had a feeling that you would not stay with the evil alliance. You showed real character by standing up to your beliefs. How about that low life Kenny? I hope he is next to go. Bob and Sugar deserve to win. They have played to the best of their abilities and at the same time being fair to their competitors.

Bob Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

WE WANT THE FINAL 2 FORMAT BACK NOW! THE FINAL 3 SUCKS AND IT'S RUINED THE SHOW! BRING IT BACK NOW!!!

goose Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

Questions for Jeff:
1)Did you write your blogs right AFTER Tribal Council when fliming was going on OR did you write your blogs right after the episode aired?
2) Will you please consider ignoring all the Onions at the Finale so they understand what that feels like?

Jedd Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 01:31 PM EST

Jeff, thank God for Survivor Gabon because I get to remind myself why I love this show very much. We had our own little Survivor Philippines in my country and it is the most spectacular crapfestival ever.

nomoretrolls Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 01:10 PM EST

One of the reasons I've really enjoyed this season is that it showed pretty clearly the difference between playing the team game vs. playing the individual game as well as excelling at challenges vs. excelling at the game. Kota clearly had the more cohesive team and excelled at the challenges, but when it came to playing the game they were as worthless as Fang was in the challenges.......Also, I love the Ponderosa clips. Can anyone still be a Kota fan after watching their pathetic behavior? I'm guessing that they will continue their pathetic whining during the questioning in the final tribal council.

Cheryl Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

The person with the 2nd highest IQ has got to be Sugar. That would be surprising to many of the castaways (and perhaps viewers) who consistantly eluded to Sugar being stupid. I hope the camera focuses on Corinne's face when Jeff says that Sugar is smarter than her. LMBO!!

Ben Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:38 PM EST

No, Probst! Not CRYSTAL! She was the Goddess of Gabon! I now have no reason to continue on. I shall eat rice in her honor on Sunday. She was the most entertaining player this season! <3

Matt Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

Jeff, you're hot!!

Dr Zechariah Zenith Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 11:51 AM EST

By the way Jeff, to answer you question- Is the medication you're currently taking prescribed or do you buy it on the streets?

I only buy Herbal medicine from the streets.

Seriously, I hope the Ponderosa videos make it to DVD they are actually good.

JeffProbstRocks Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 11:46 AM EST

Jeff, thanks for the invite! I hope Serena and Alexis would be out of town. However, you would kick me out as well. Watch Survivor, yeah right!. It would be hard to keep my hands to myself. Although it could be a cute Kodak moment, Serena on the right, Alexis on the left and me on your lap! I know your only kidding, but thanks for the fantasy! I know about envy, I envy Serena and Alexis, take good care of him ladies.

Dr Zechariah Zenith Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 11:43 AM EST

Now onto the episode.

BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON.

That was really unexpected and made you believe that Sugar has a soul. She was able to filter good from bad.

I predicted either Matty or Bob is gone, maybe Ken. But Crystal.

Perhaps next tribal, the hidden immunity idol can be traded to resurrect a castaway. Now that would be exciting. The power alone could overwhelm anyone like Gollum and Frodo.

Again, this was the best episode ever. From 45 million viewers down to 14 million. I pity the 31 million others who missed the episode.

Dr Zechariah Zenith Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 11:38 AM EST

Hi Jeff,

Being singled out in your blog is either embarrassing or an honor to be noticed. But I would take the latter for considering both our criticism and opinions.

I have been watching Survivor ever since season 1 and would continue to do so until you put out your own torch and say CBS has spoken.

For the record, I reckon that Survivor is like the next phase of Superbowl and World Series of reality shows. It should be there until the end of time.

Plus I never said that the producers chose the winners, but I implied that the tribe shift tends to take the aspect of strategy away. But kudos to you and the rest if it would not play next season.

There are still many aspect of Survivor that have never explored and could add an exciting dynamic in the future.

Through the years I have seen it evolved constantly from the hidden immunity idol when found by Gary Hogeboom in Guatemala and the development of exile island. Perhaps they could even trade the idol for food.

Lori Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

Okay - so why hasn't anyone thought that Bob might have the second highest IQ? Or maybe that would not be a "surprise"? And Jeff, I just listened to your interview with Ryan Seacrest and heard your quote: "A day without sun is like...night". Okay, that was hilarious - and yes, really "deep"!!! : )) Good to know the next Survivor starts only a few weeks from now - it will be like a big Valentine's Day present to all of your fans. Oh, and if you want more to "think about" on the next set - I've got lots more books to recommend besides the one I mentioned below.

IceDave Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

Dudley Do Right (Matty) VS Dick Dastardly (Kenny) Without Chrystal Kennie could be next.
About Time Chrystal was voted off, She is an Olympic Champion, yet she has performed poorly during all the challenges, then she was involved in controversies throughout the entire season with Matty , Randy, and at several tribal council where she was sitting because her tribe didn't win a single immunity challenge. The tribal switch was like a reward for the poor play of the Fang tribe because the Kota Tribe is sitting on the tribal council and most of the Fang tribe is going to the final episode. Proving you can lose all the challenges yet still win the game!!

lyndyb Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:40 AM EST

I'm so bummed I just discovered Jeff's blog - would have LOVED to have read these as the season progressed. PLEASE, EW & Jeff, continue these in future seasons.

I've always thought Jeff is part of what makes Survivor such a success. Love the humorous edge's shown more of in the past several years. Learning about some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the game is very interesting.

theresa Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Can't wait for the finale. Not sure who I want to win--sometimes it is easier to decide who you DON'T want to win it all. Even in the so-so seasons, which I don't count this as one, the fun is seeing the good and bad decisions people make trying to get to the end. You just can't make this stuff up. I wonder how the survivors feel when they see the final product on tv months later. Smart or stupid? Anyways, as much as I will miss my weekly fill of Survivor after Sunday, I will miss your blog more. My highlight every Friday. You cut through the crap and are funny and smart while doing it. Can't wait until next season.

Michael Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

You should do a Survivor with all the people who were voted out first in all the seasons, it would be great in my mind.

Enjo Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

哇,JEFF真是厉害,写那么多字啊~~~

ccc Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 09:43 AM EST

Second highest IQ has to be Corinne. That would be a surprise!! And funny!

Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 08:42 AM EST

Sugar for the win

ceebee Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 05:52 AM EST

Hi jeff, i wasnt able to sleep last night because i was really sad that crystal was voted out.. i even dreamt of her and she was saying "eat yo rice".. although she sucks in challenges, she's really funny and i like her attitude.. that's why she's my favorite. But since she's already gone. i'm rooting for Kenny, sugar & matty..

--CeeBee, From Manila, Philippines

darwin Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 03:31 AM EST

Hey Jeff on the reunion can you tell Corinne Marcus Charlie and Randy how arrogant they are for not talking to Crystal in Ponderosa. What are they 12?? They pretend to be so innocent and great but when i see them. I cant help but see trash.

Miss M Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 02:50 AM EST

Jeff: I am speechless, in a great way, you packed so much into this blog. You're so funny, so smart and soooooo good looking! Can't wait for Sunday night. I have only ever picked one person I wanted to win more than anything (you'll probably hate me for this) and it was Boston Rob in All Stars. His game play was brillant. As long as Susie doesn't win, I'll be happy with any of the other 4 Survivors. I love a great blindside. Cya Crystal! Kisses to you Jeff.

Marc13 Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 01:19 AM EST

Oh, and I agree with raftrap - Corinne & Marcus being very spiteful towards Crystal when she arrived at Pondorosa was a real glimpse into their arrogance, selfishness and childish behaviour. Then again, it was these qualities that ultimately brought about their downfall! At least Crystal had the decency to admit that she had been outplayed by the eventual winner! Very, very spiteful of Corinne & Marcus!!

Marc13 Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 01:14 AM EST

I have just watched Pondorosa & can't believe how the onions behaved towards Crystal!!!!!!

Jeff, is this normal?? Does it always take a while for people to begin being amicable?

Kyle Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:27 AM EST

So much to comment on but three things particularly caught my attention when reading the blogs and the comments.
1. "Bob is playing an honest game." You watching the same show as me? That guy is lying his face off. Biggest liar in the game after Ken.
2. Ancient history but LKC said that the purple stone caused Paschal's demise on Marquesas. Paschal caused his own demise. All he had to do was vote for Neleh and he would have made final three. But even if he had, he likely would have had a medical removal from the game when he collapsed from dehydration on day 38. That would have led to a Kathy / V final two and a landslide win for Kathy.
3. Final two is definitely a better, more entertaining, more suspenseful version of the show. However, Final three has become a necessary evil to keep the players on their toes. It should NOT be the standard, just a possibility that the players must always keep in mind.

Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:10 AM EST

I am happy with the final 5. If I read one more comment from the Onion Alliance about how much more they deserved to win I am gonna throw up. You guys made a big mistake when you voted out Susie instead of Dan. It was your fault you didn't make it to the end, not the twist (you still had the numbers). Get over it.

Jean Guy Levesque Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:53 PM EST

Probst, could you please bring "white" survivors who have more class next season. Randy and Corinne make me cringe when they represent. All other ethnicities appear not to be related to trash and maggots unlike Corinne and Randy. Vive la Quebec!!!!

BrazilianFan Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:48 PM EST

Haha I just think it's great that you come here Jeff and give the most honest answers, and yes some people really need to start getting over some things.
I hope Matty wins.

michelemichele Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:43 PM EST

So there are three people now (it's been a while): good stuff.

Keep mixing it up, too, please. Kept me from switching the channel. This is the first Survivor I've watched since the All-Stars, and I really enjoyed it. I'd like to see Matt or Sugar win, but as things are, I'd be pretty glad for anyone (even if Kenny's irritating me a little at the moment).

PS: The camera work is magnificent: I'll miss seeing it

Jennifer Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:39 PM EST

Well, okay Jeff,if three's a party to you, then I will bring my girlfriend with me, but I better not catch you looking at her. Im here for you, just say the word, my love.

Jill Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:16 PM EST

There should be more switches and no merge. that'll "f" with them. see how alliances long alliances stay

Alexis Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 10:56 PM EST

Bob for the freaking win.
I don't think I've ever been so enthusiastic about a science teacher haha. But he's just that awesome.

And oh my gosh his bow tie last night -- priceless! How the heck did he figure out how to tie it so it says 'Survivor' on the front? That man's genius. Gotta love him.

love2bon Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 10:40 PM EST

No comment on the Mohawk? What a cry for attention. For a gold medalist, Crystal sure was uncoordinated. Good to see her go.
Would like to see Bob and Sugar in the final but unfortunately I think Susan is a likely candidate because all the others will beat her in the final.
Jeff, you are living the life!
