Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Gabon' (episode 9)

Nov 14, 2008, 06:32 AM | by Jeff Probst

Categories: 'Survivor', Reality TV, Television, Things That Are Awesome!

Survivorgabon_l No need to bury the lead. One of my favorite moments of the entire season happened about seven minutes into this episode. Corrine's reaction to Marcus being voted out. It was almost as good as waiting for Santa to come.

First the Macaulay Culkin "hands to the face" reaction made famous in Home Alone and then the verbal response that revealed the rest of her truth: "I'm pissed. He didn't deserve to leave the game."

Which prompted Kenny's very fair question, "Who does?"

This is why we are still on the air and why I still love hosting Survivor after 17 seasons. Human nature. It is nearly impossible to hide our true selves, especially in times of conflict.

"He didn't deserve to leave the game." Only seven words. But judging from Kenny's clenched jaw reaction, those seven words might have just sealed Corrine's fate. Charlie was less upset and less vocal, and you saw what happened to him. Gone.

I fully admit that it is sooooo easy for me to backseat drive. I'm not playing this game, living in the middle of Africa on nothing, my mind overloaded with strategy, wondering who I can trust, dealing with those annoying bug bites and having an obnoxious host up in my face all the time.

And hey, I'd be "pissed" too if they took out my ally. Marcus was good. Too good to let stay in the game. Corrine, Charlie, and Marcus had a real shot at going to the end and if so, Marcus wins hands down. He was that good. So I fully lay down and concede that I don't think I could hack this game, and as I have said hundreds of time, I have the utmost respect for anybody who raises their hand to endure this thing called Survivor. Now that I've cleared my conscience...it's time to get back to lipping off.

Corrine, it's just a thought, but when you sense the horse is going in a different direction, it might be wise to lessen your hold on the reins and let the horse guide the way. This horse is definitely going in a different direction and the person sitting in the saddle is Kenny. Kenny is...the new kid in town.

Watching Kenny come of age is reality's version of watching great Shakespeare. He's maturing from a young man into a leader...and in this game that means he may soon gain the throne. Ah, but if he gets too cocky, the gods will descend and a beheading is soon to follow. Watch yourself Kenny. A healthy dose of humility could help win you a million dollars.

I have to share a story about the golf challenge. There was much debate between the creative team about whether this challenge was going to provide enough drama. We just weren't sure, so we were hoping we might catch a break and get some really great reality during the challenge and as Survivor luck would have it, we did.

Thank you, Randy, for being so pushy, and thank you, Matty, for pushing back. "No, you can't do it, Randy." Love that moment. If you were paying close attention, Randy was absolutely right in what he was saying. "Just hold it over the hole and drop it." Ah, but once again human nature takes over, and Matty couldn't see straight to save his life.

Personally, I'm just so glad I'm perfect and have no issues whatsoever to deal with. I'm kidding. And while I'm at it, yes I read the comments you leave at EW.com, and yes, I know many of you think "Probst sucks." Whatever.

Man I love this blogging. Cheapest therapy yet.

Then there is the reward where once again, more human nature revealed itself. Corrine smiled! Corrine took the hand of a small child! Dare I say, Corrine loved!! Let them eat cake!! She has a heart! She is human! Yeah! And when Corrine smiles, I am reminded, Corrine is pretty damn attractive.

The merge – finally. Nuff said.

Question: How often has being eliminated in a challenge or at tribal council come down to making fire? Well, I don't know the exact number, but...it's a lot! I promise you if I was going to be on this show I would make certain I could make fire while blindfolded, untying knots, and solving a puzzle, 'cause that's what we do on Survivor! REI sells flint for five bucks! Order online and you don't even have to leave your house!

My final observation: Bob should work in the Survivor art department because the fake immunity idol he made is incredible. Truly beautiful. Still not exactly sure how he pulled it off but there had to be a bit of smelting going on and I don't even know what smelting means! His students back home in Maine should be proud! "Ole teach" is working it and the merge has given Bob new life!

Next time on...Survivor. One of the best episodes of the season. No hype. Pure truth.

Now check out our exclusive deleted scene from 'Survivor' and then read Dalton's recap.

That girl Corinne needs some serious psychological help. She obviously has some DEEP ISSUES that she needs to deal with instead of running her nasty mouth and spewing all over everyone else. She's obviously JEALOUS of Sugar, but it was VERY wrong of her to go there on the topic of Sugar's deceased father. Corrine IS SO LOW CLASS. She also seems to be incredibly SHALLOW for saying that "Africa has no redeeming qualities" simply because she couldn't get the electricity to say on long enough for her to blow dry her nasty NAPPY hair. That girl needs to get a life. AND PEOPLE SHE IS WRONG WHEN SHE SAYS ITS EASIEST TO BE NICE... pretty much suggesting that someone who is rude is more interesting or has a better personality... IT IS QUITE THE OPPOSITE. It is easy to be rude, it takes a LOT of SELF CONTROL, MATURITY, SELF RESPECT, RESPECT FOR OTHERS and straight up MANNERS to be polite and "NICE". NONE OF WHICH CORRINE possesses. GO GET HELP CORRINNE! DO IT FOR YOURSELF!

suzie Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

Survivor seems to fly by too fast each season.. and I sit on the comfort of my couch and yell at the idiots..who they need to get rid of before it bites them in the butt, all the while.. I got snacks..doritos, chocolate.. I would like to see footage of them trying to get food.. they just don't show that anymore.. Love being able to watch the Ponderosa, deleted scenes..and MOSTLY Jeffs Blog.. Love ya MOre than Cake Jeff!

Rachel Hamel Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

Jeff,
The show would not be nearly as successful without you. You bring as much to the show as the Survivors do. I have loved the show since I first saw it, mid way thru Season 2. Wow, what a great season that was! So, thanks for your blogs, it's like icing on the cake.

Julie Nelson Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:43 AM EST

I've been a fan from day one, episode one. It's amazing to me how this show has evolved and, Jeff, you along with it.
You don't necessarily call a spade a spade, but by suggesting it and calling them out on the carpet, they proceed to hang themselves....every time. I love it!
Mr. Nice Guy where have you gone? Thanks for keeping it real.

Tyler Probst Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:11 PM EST

man how can people out there be hating on kenny, every play he has made so far has been perfect. they all say marcus deserved it more than kenny? marcus didn't do anything impressive. he had an easy ride from the beginning.

Cathy Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:12 PM EST

THAT WAS SO AWESOME! BEST TV EVER! RANDY IS A LOSER AND HE DESERVED WHAT HE GOT! HOW EMBARRASSING FOR HIM. Karma rules!

Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:56 AM EST

Wah wah. Cry me a river for the haters. This is 1 of the best seasons ever!!! I love the group and I'm so glad those cocky onions are out of the game!

Rachael Taylor Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

I am so over this season! If these people are representing the American demographic then I am ashamed...and Crystal...you have tarnished your Olympic gold with your poor performance. I thought Olympians were super human...not whiney, uncoordinated, sleazy human beings. The only thing that is keeping me watching this show is Bob, Corinne, the scenery (HD television is A-mazing!) and of course you Jeff! If Bob and Corinne go though, I'm out. Survivor needs a face lift and soon...

Amy Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:41 PM EST

I am getting really annoyed at how this game goes. Why do the whiny losers always come out on top. I would have liked to have seem Marcus and MAtty in the finals. Both played there hardest in every challenge and deserve to be there, not the losers that are left. Please get rid of Kenny and Susie as soon as possible! Matty Bob and Sugar are all that deserve it

Stacimcc Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:07 PM EST

Survivor is hands down the best reality show on TV, and you deserve a lot of the credit for its success. My fellow Survivor fan(atics) and i have repeatedly discussed several things on the boards over the seasons, and it'd be great if we could get some answers. Have the producers considered doing some kind of expanded viewing, dvd or PPV, of cut scenes? i'd LOVE to see the entire tribal councils, especially the final one,& more scenes around camp that tell the contestant's work ethics. also, after all these seasons, why do women still show up w/o a bra and in heels knowing the game could start at any moment? we've heard they were told it was a photo shoot & the producers tell them what to wear. i don't see the producers interfering that much & letting them make their own poor choices. i'd go to everything wearing a bathing suit under my clothes w/ lots of layers. are the contestants checked for that at the start of the game and limited? Keep up the great work! You're the best there is!

trev Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:56 PM EST

yes randy is gone, well played best move of the game.

snobuis Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:49 PM EST

Probst sucks?? No way! Jeff, you make Survivor! Your commentary during challenges makes them that much more fun and the way you run TC is amazing. You have to think on your feet and get inside the heads of the cast - it's got to be the most demanding hosting gig on tv, and no one could do it like you. I'm glad the Emmy voters got it right.

John Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 05:53 PM EST

Great commentary Jeff ... it gets me psyched to watch the next episode. By the way, Marcus + Charlie = cutest couple in Survivor history. Rob and Amber? They have nothing on this bro-mance! And Probster, sorry, you were my main man on Survivor, but now Marcus holds the key to my heart. No offense of course! :) Just love the guy. Great attitude.

Dunks Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:04 AM EST

Hey Jeff I have to say it's thrilling to read your blog. I reckon your job would have to be one of the best jobs in the world.

I was really pleased to see the team try and slip a hidden immunity idol into somewhere unexpected. It would be great to include more opportunities for players to discreetly acquire immunity idols as the "send weak person to exile, search their bag then flush the idol" formula is becoming a little predictable. I like the whole fake immunity idol thing and I think you could exploit that to uild the drama.

I think it would be great to see a season where there are a number of differently coloured immunity idols on exile island which would presumable be found by different people. Then later on in the game one of the castaways has the opportunity to determine or change which immunity idol colour is the "real" immunity idol. Suddenly that useless idol that someone else traded you for your vote becomes the real idol and they have no idea what is about to hit them. Players might be more willing to play their idols early if they feel there is a chance theirs could expire soon.

Love the show. I think the reason it is so successful is because of great casting, great challenges and such unpredictable outcomes! The water polo/lacrosse one was such a good idea. I was kind of mad that the cast were so crap at it.

I would love to see survivor move it's casting into the international arena. You tried a racial experiment with cook islands - why not up the ante and cast players from different countries around the world. I'd gladly put my hand up for Australia!

He-Man Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 01:53 AM EST

Imagine if Bob had found the idol first and left his brilliantly creative idol. Someone would have found it and believed it was THE idol. Bob's bright, but wish he'd had started playing sooner.
Also Susie might be playing better than portrayed. Might she take out Ken? (Doubtful, admittedly, but an interesting thought.)
I'm rooting for Matty and Sugar to maneuver something to get to the finals together by using both alliances, despite the fact both are strategically naive. Ken right now is heading for the finish stronger than any of the others. Jeff, who are you rooting for or can't you say? Awesome blogs!
-He-Man

jenn Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 01:00 AM EST

i so agree bj...i hope he goes home to. i was dying laughing at the commercial where he says"some one is in for a huge surprise" ummm ya you! (we hope) i just wonder how jeff keeps a straight face during tribal sometimes. i am rooting for bob...kenny is my second choice. my ideal 3 out next would be bob, crystal, corrine in that order. so heres hoping

BJ Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 12:05 AM EST

I think the excitement referred to in the ads for next wks show relate to Bob's fake idol. Randy finds out about it, thinks it's real (I assume) he gets Bob to give it to him to use (or thinks he can get it to use) and alas finds out it's a crock! Either way I cna't stand Randy and hope he goes soon. As for the surprise a couple wks ago, I knew what it was going to be before it happened. I knew they weren't merging but realigning the 2 tribes. I don't know how I knew, but I knew it! So no surprise there- I can't say I'm rooting for Sugar but I like her and have to admit she is the reason this has been one exciting season with the unexpected evictions. What a hoot!

BJ Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 12:00 AM EST

Yo Jeff,

Do you and Survivor ppl have any clue how hard it is to find your blog entries!??? I've watched Survivor forever and never knew any blog posts exist. Once I found urs by accident, I googled it and found no past entires, I searched this site and it found 1 one!, I searched CBS pages, notta, no link, no blog from you.. Your blog entries aren't on google or on cbs survivor pg.. this makes no sense to me.. I'm still trying to dig up past entries now that I found this one..

what gives? why no linky on surv/cbs pg (or) google search?

Hally Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

Who could not like Jeff???? He's the best. A huge part of Survivor's success.

Corinne is the moron. She should have realized that Sugar had the power and gone with Sugar when she suggested voting off Randy. She would have been better off losing Randy than Charlie.

Remember, Jeff, you are LOVED!

T Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

Nice Blog. Dont let the haters getcha down Jeff, u make Survivor what it is, great TV.

Thank god he mentioned about Bobs craftmenship. I remember all the talk last season about "OMG we found somthing Ozzie sucks at, stick carving!"

This idol actually LOOKS realastic lol.

Excited for next episode, heres hoping Corrine goes(for some reason I find Randy more entertaining to watch)

I guess the only other thing worth mentioning is to ask if they had any matches standing by for that challenge? (LOL CookIslands, best fire challenge line ever- "Were going to matches"

CrysLuvsJP Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

I have to say that I first saw Jeff Probst on Rock n Roll Jeopardy and fell in LOVE!!! When Survivor first started, I watched because of him...after 17 Survivors, I'm STILL watching just because of him! My hubby says I can't try out because I'd more than likely assault Jeff...who me?

As for this Survivor go 'round...I'm diggin Sugar! I usually have favs by the 2nd or 3rd episode, but with this cast I've been a little more hesitant. Sugar, Bob and Matty are my top 3. Don't think Crystal (she has my name BTW) is playing to her potential and Kenny is scheming his way to Ponderosa. Corrine and Randy are awfully mean and definately full of themselves.
Anyway - Love Survivor and have a MASSIVE crush on Jeff! Julie (from Vanawatu - yes, spelled it wrong - don't care not a fav season of mine) is so WRONG for takin my boyfriend.

Cris to PLA Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Well, Probst (or Dalton, can't remember which) specifically said that the challenge Matt won was designed to be an individual one and they changed that later, so yeah unfortunately the producers manipulated a big part of the game this season PLA. Hopefully they will regret that and learn from it.

"However I often have to remind her that even if we sometimes hate a twist (two switch ups? Come on!) because it seems like the producers are manipulating the game, it doesn't work that way. Because of the money involved, all of the challenges and twists must be layed out in advance.

jenn Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 04:35 AM EST

i have been trying forever also, sigh, but to no avail. i think my prob is i am not a size0...oh well, i can always dream....gl with your tape

Notedog Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 01:11 AM EST

Jeff, if you read these comments, can you tell me, "whats the best thing to do to get on?" It is "honest to God" my dream and my greatest ambition to get on this show, but I can't even get the initial phone call from sending in the video. I personally thought my video was great.

Graziela Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

Jeff is saying next week's episode will be even better. Could it be? When Marcus got voted out, I thought it was a pretty darn good episode, then Charlie! Holy Crap! At least he was headed to the "Love Shack" where Marcus was waiting ;-) Also, LOVE Jeff's comment, "Man I love this blogging. Cheapest therapy yet." HA HA! Brilliant! Speaking of therapy, I’m going to need some when this season is over. Survivor withdrawal anyone? I'm such a Survivor slut! I love it! I Can't get enough, I want more!

steve Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

Jeff - your doing a great job!!! and this blog is great..I look forward to it every week!..

BB10house Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:47 AM EST

WEll before my battery dies...

It's nice to see you blogging Jeff. Ignore the kiddies who say you suck- As a middle aged woman reality junkie, we all think you're hot.. insanely hot! and great for the show.. you do a great job-

I do 24/7 updates for Big Brother from cbs (on youtube) and I for one understand that the tv shows manipulate the reality of what ppl are like. From what I see, Corinne and Randy are horrible people. She said she hated Susie so much she wanted to stab her in the eye..who says that!! and Randy, when he won luxury, they are sitting amongst beautiful scenery and eating, the words out of his mouth..what he was thinking about, not the scenery and the food but that he was glad the other side didn't win, didn't get to eat and were continuing to starve. That shows a real ugliness in a person. I was surprised to see an interview that said Sugar is bossy and Crystal is mean.. I kinda liked these 2! -

Well whatever happens I hope Survivor continues :)

Menoman Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:55 AM EST

I Don't know if it's been stated yet, but I think Brad Pitt must know Matty. Maybe he is Mr. Pitt's personal trainer 'cause Brad was certainly channeling him in Burn After Reading. I'd love to see a split screen on the reunion show with Matty's dancing vs. B.P.'s character's moves. Also, props to Sugar for breaking my belief that no Anglo contestants ever vote to save a person of color over their Caucasian brethren. Moreover, check yo'selves all you Susie, Crystal, Kenny haters(ala randy & corinne), you might be suffering from an acute case of Really Awful Cynicism of Intelligent & Sensible Minorities(RACISM for short). Go Susie! Viva la Mujer!

Trump's Hair Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 10:03 PM EST

I completely disagree with you Jeff! Corinne is nasty & evil! Bitter & twisted! How could you find someone attractive who wants to stab a fellow competitor in the face with a knife?!

Thanks tho Jeff for a very entertaining season in Gabon! I sure enjoy watching you & Survivor~!

Tammy Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 07:30 PM EST

Karen G. I agree with most of what you said except I never thought Tina deserved the win. Obviously she did whatever worked, but I really thought Colby handed it to her. Usually at the end of every season I am saying if 'insert name here' wins I am never watching again. Then that person wins and I always come back and watch the next season.

Tammy Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

Loved, Loved, loved Corrine's reaction to Marcus being voted out. That was the first thing I thought after the show ended the week before--can't wait to see the reactions to Marcus being gone. Loved Charlie and then right behind it was Matty's big smile. Priceless. So good we had to play it twice!!!

jenn Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

ackkk if peeps actually think jeff sucks...why read his blog? jeff probst = survivor. seriously...could you imagine any other host??? not me...unless its chris from total drama island!lmfao(so funny first time i saw him)

Karen G Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Jeff Probst, best host ever! And just so everyone knows this game is not about anyone deserving the money, its about who is the best liar, cheat and backstabber and if you don't know that by now you must have just started watching. Very few deserving players have won this game. Only a few, I believe, Tina, Ethan, Tom and Yul. Most of the winners have been the worst of the cast.

Simon is a Racist Pig Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

Jeff's got an Emmy and the show is still the best reality show on tv.

I saw it on TMZ as well.

alice Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

I don't really love this season, not compared with cook island IMHO, and I'm not sure they're playing the right game there. I'm confused and scared mostly by kenny, even though I don't really like anybody...
let's hope for the better in the following episodes.

jeff, you're doing a great job, but sometimes you seem a little mechanic delivering your lines. I've just re-saw the marquesas season and you seemed to enjoy it more. just saying!

Wil Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 09:29 AM EST

I am enjoying this season. They are getting rid of all the jocks and popular people first. I am really loving this season because it is so unpredictable. You are right, kenny can win this thing if he doesn't show his hand too much. Also, we there ever be a season where they do not merge. Every season now, people try to last or survive until the merge. Shake them up a little bit by not merging at all or at least to the final three. Stephanie lasted on her own during one season.

Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 06:34 AM EST

Hey Jeff. Great season.. this episode was great. but my fave season is Micronesia (F vs F). best season ever.
and .. Survivor is really popular in Isreal. :)

suzy parker Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 12:10 AM EST

Is this girl confused about what she's auditioning for? Has anyone heard of this show?

PLA Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 09:54 PM EST

First off, Jeff you just doubled or tripled your comments by admitting you read them. Second, I must admit that my mother (age 75) and I (37) are both addicted to Survivor. I call her every Friday to dish on what happened. However I often have to remind her that even if we sometimes hate a twist (two switch ups? Come on!) because it seems like the producers are manipulating the game, it doesn't work that way. Because of the money involved, all of the challenges and twists must be layed out in advance. I applaud the producers and the challenge team for trying to keep it fresh, even if it doesn't always work out.

GO KENNY!!! Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

Sounds like sour grapes to me, Charlie. When Ken's homophobic slur was brought up at tribal council, he obviously denied saying it otherwise why would you have said it was hearsay. You would have said it was fact if Ken admitted as such at TC. Shame on you for being a lawyer and spreading slander on someone based on hearsay. Kenny for the win!

Rob Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

I'm finding survivor is getting really boring. All the people seem to be a rubber stamp of each other . Everyone is in their 20's & has no personality . Amazing Race at least there is an age spread and their not all stupid

lalanaz Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 03:06 PM EST

PS Jeff I agree if you plan on being on survivor you need to do some homework, learn ways to start a fire, read some books on edible plants, geeeezzzz what a bunch of morons in a jungle and being hungry, so much to eat but too dumb to figure it out, and they are sitting in camp whining about no food!!!!! makes me question, what if the worst happened, these people would be dead of hunger in a week!!!!

lalanaz Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

OK first, Jeff you really make the game, yes it is written all over your face.. LOL. Second yes the season started off a little bad but once again ya'll pulled it together with twists and turns. I am so stoked that fang has taken a turn for the better LOL. I love Sugar and I can understand the tears she is an emotional person and to have done this so soon after losing her dad KUDOS to her. I think Chrystal really changed Sugars mind at council when she said don't ask Chrystal anything unless you want the truth. Thursday night I have made it clear in my house that no one talks or calls LOL. Hubby said he is a survivor widow LOL. But he is starting to get into it with me LOL, despite the fact that he doesn't care LOL. I get really loud and yell or hoot just like I would at a football game LOL (Dallas Cowboys only)had to add that. Looks like ya'll are going to retain me as a fan after all, it was really looking bleak. God Bless and thanks for the entertainment!

DocFan Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 12:13 PM EST

Probst you rock.

Aimee Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 12:00 PM EST

Jeff I am loving the commentary. I'm just waiting for the day when you start screaming at them at tribal - "YOU MORONS!" etc. etc. The majority of this cast is driving me nuts and I'll be rooting for Bob until the bitter end (being a teacher from Maine I just can't help it and he has to be one of the best truly genuine human beings that you guys have had on the show) I can't wait to see the final episode when the dirty laundry is aired.....

jennifer Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 11:47 AM EST

Jeff Probst,OMG. I just found this site by sheer accident. Let me just say everybody who knows me, knows about my addiction to Survivor (& Jeff Probst). I have a Survivor ring tone on my phone, Jeff Probst wallpaper & I tried out in Kansas City & met Brandon, the winner from Kansas. I am not a crazy stalker, but mercy me, God took extra time on Jeff Probst. Most beautiful living thing. I will make it to Survivor one day, & I always joke that I will be kicked off before it begins for accosting Probst in the bush. Even my husband will give me that one! I would have been mad if anyone else had won the Emmy! Hope Survivor continues for years to come & I think this one is as good as all the others. Mark Burnett is genius (I also watched Eco-Challenge!) & Jeff, is well, the reason to live & breathe-on Thursdays, anyway!

Thank you Claudia for the Sugar info. Writing "hole" next to Ace's name certainly adds to her dimension. Now, if only she could stop crying....

Cris Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Absolutely agree 100% with JM, I love Jeff (and Dalton's recap) but this is the worst season because the producers killed it trying to save it. They knew the second twist would favor old Fang and the merge, before Matt could be eliminated by his new tribe throwing the next challenge, just about sealed it all. Now we get to see some mean spirited people, who can never win challenges and are only good at lying sit in the final. It's just bad tv.

Rach Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 06:08 AM EST

Jeff Probst - love your work, come back to oz

JM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 03:00 AM EST

You know whats worse then one tribe completely dominating the other and just voting them off after the merge? One tribe completely dominating the other, then because of unfavorable manipulation of the game by the producers, they all get voted off by the people that lost all the challenges.

Is the point now to lose challenges in the beginning of the season, so the producers pull shakeups till you are the stronger tribe or have merge numbers?

Glad you read the comments Jeff - ***blush***.

Crush. Is. Intact.

Claudia Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 01:23 AM EST

And by the way, to everyone that thinks Sugar's stupid, cmon guys. She is soo smart, she plays the game by pretending to be a moron. She's sneaky and plays well. She has the advantage right now of everyone wanting her on their sides.

Randy annoys the living crap out of me. He's an idiot, when he said that the lady was flirting with him at the reward party, that was so innapropriate and STUPID.

I love Matty he's hot! Bob is very smart but his idea of a fake idol won't last too long. Kenny is getting smarter as he goes. Corinne is a nasty woman. I cannot stand her at all.

claudia Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 01:18 AM EST

Sugar wrote the word Hole next to Ace's name. Therefore Ace hole lol my husband and I laughed when we saw it.

Gabe Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 12:04 AM EST

Jeff, I always look forward to reading your blog after each episode. I usually get a good laugh to see things from your unique perspective.

The show could benefit by providing a suggestion box for how to mix things up. I'm sure I'm not the only one with great ideas on how to disorient the contestants and their trash their strategies. Problem is, if I post it here, people see it and it would be the sweet surprise it could be.

Dr Zechariah Zenith Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 11:41 PM EST

Sugar is a Spice Girl.

She could have voted off Crystal twice, but decided she cant. Crystal and Sugar go together I guess.

Fool her once, shame on her.
Fool her twice, double shame for her.

I guess she never learns.

SarahinAZ Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 10:01 PM EST

What I like about this season is that there are so many people still in the game who would have been out so early in other seasons. Kenny, Bob, Crystal, Susie, Sugar, they would all be out right now. People seem to forget that producers have the outline of the game mapped out months before filming starts, so Markus and co. just got the shaft on a twist that the producers couldn't change at all. Don't be bitter! I for one am glad because we have all the interesting characters left.

I tried out for Gabon, but sadly, was turned down. I would have loved to go on and compete with the great personalities in this game, and meet Jeff Probst, of course.

Also, as a brunette, I love it when people say the brunette is hot, but Corinne is definitely not hot. Why is no one giving it up for Sugar? She is such a cutie! I always thought she was the best looking girl in the cast, not Corinne, but I guess people have their own opinions.

The past few episodes have been AMAZING!

Leonard Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:53 PM EST

Question: when Sugar voted off Ace, she wrote or drew something besides his name on the parchment. When her vote was shown at the end of the episode, part of it was blurred. Does anyone know what it was? Dalton Ross, do you have any idea?

Brian Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:52 PM EST

Now that I know that Jeff reads this I will come out of the word-works. JEFF YOU ROCK!!! Not only are you consistent as a host, but you also know how to stir the pot and get things in the open.

Plus I love your blogs. Seeing the video at the beginning of the season makes me realize how personable you are. Can't wait to see what you do after Survivor runs it's course.

(Which who knows when that will be. I was CERTAIN that it couldn't last longer than a few season. Thought it would be too repetitive. But I'm still a believer and am still surprised. Well done Mark. Now if only you'd change it up like I thought originally the show was about before I ever saw an episode. They should have public votings. How much more drama would it be if voting wasn't kept in secret and it was like a trial, and people openly declare where they are voting and why? Much like the game Mafia. Just a thought)

SFviewer Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

Jeff, did Kenny really call Charlie a f-- during tribal council and why wasnt it shown on TV?

Keiti Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

Jeff, thank You for that blog,I just discovered it typing Jeff Probst to Google. Jeah,I m checking time to time what are you up to. You have the most beautyful smile and what I love most about You is Your sense of humor. Dont ever quit hosting Survivor and hope Your team doing another ALL allstars edition, love to see Rob&Amber and Rupert again.
Love from Estonia

David Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:31 PM EST

Jeff, you are the best reality host on TV and everybody knows it. Congrats on the emmy by the way

Kevin Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

I just wanted to say how much I loathe Randy. Crystal was right on calling him out at tribal and made him look like the idiot that he is. Don't ever leave us Jeffy. Crystal or Kenny for the win please!!!!!

Bob, now that Marcus is gone you are the one I'm rooting for all the way. You have a brain, a sense of humor, you're resourceful, you keep a low profile and you're obviously artistically gifted! Nice idol! Long live!
But I don't think it's fair to replace the clues to the Idol after the Idol has been found and removed. Or was there a new one? That wasn't clear, show editors!

Liz Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 05:43 PM EST

Ive been with Survivor from the begining. The good.. and the bad.... First time discovering the blog. Very niiiice. This season has been great so far. Love Bob.

Thanks Jeff!

Ernestina Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

everyone is starting to "get it". Bob's THE MAN! C'mon...the bow tie is signature, the smile is winning, and the idol...the IDOL...no one else on that show could do that. No one no one no one. He is ingenious, sweet, funny, clever, and STILL in great shape. You gotta love him...and he is a NICE guy, which is why they want him OUT...cause otherwise, he WINS! I still hope he makes it to the end, and I am not giving up. His student's comments made me cry, which is not easy to do (altho I am not heartless like Corinne..she is unbelievably heartless); Crystal is just a bey-atch, and Kenny? Those fingernails scare the livin' crap outa me! Randy is just obnoxious, Matty is too hot to win, and Sugar has no mind of her own. Pathetic! Susie...well, she's gone soon, but I hope Crystal goes next. I can't stand to look at those evil eyes..make room for Bob. He's the Man!!

jack gorfin Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

Oh, and there is no way that Crystal was an olympic anything...common she cant hold up those poles even a second, she's pathetic on all the challenges and she's a whiner with a bad attitude. It has to be a hoax right?

jack gorfin Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

Jeff:

Thanks so much for doing this blog. I have never missed a single episode of survivor and I am really glad its still on the air. Great to read your insider comments here and to know what your thinking. I like Sugar this year alot. I think she is being underestimated by everyone and that she will be there in the end. I think Kenny has done great but he is getting to cocky and will get knocked off real soon. Randy would be a great one to take to the final two or three because everyone hates him so much...great season and I hope you guys are around for along time....

Jack

Amanda Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

UGH... smart to get rid of Charlie... but honestly... if I have to listen to Crystal or Susie open their mouths anymore my ears might fall off. The two of them just drive me insane. Crystal is pathetic, Kenny reminds me of a weasle...geez.

Bob deserves to win more than anyone that is left.

apollomoon Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

Hehe.. Looks like Jeff has a little crush on Corrine

megr Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:09 PM EST

i don't like kenny - he's has no charisma, he's NOT FUN TO WATCH, and he just reeks of self-absorbed hyersensitivity fueled by an uber low self- esteem. not a pleasant or interesting guy at all.
i'm watching soley for sugar and matty. i'm not watching if they leave.

Michael King Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 12:31 PM EST

[1] Jeff Probst is a BEAST and I'd probably sacrifice a sibling to meet the guy. Don't worry, though - I'll be on Survivor one day (so I won't have to lose a sibling - :]).

[2] I'm privately praying that Corinne stays as long as possible, cause she's quite possibly the most hilariously heinous person to be on the show since Jerri. Randy, too.

[3] Does anyone else think "Nobag" is a fourth grade joke waiting to happen? Thank God I'm not in this season, cause I would have chastised the genius behind that mistake. Nobag? NOBAG!? Hah - where was the confessional where someone was lamenting what the immature people would think. Sorry - I'm obviously still an adolescent.

[4] Top moment of the season thus far was watching Matty dance like a drunk person around a bunch of Gabonese people, all of whom were probably like "Who the heck is this piece of work?"

Survivor's amazing.

Pete Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

Survivor has always reveled in irony, and this season has provided stellar examples. In just the past two episodes, the man who boasts about throwing individual immunity into the ocean gets voted off. This week two 'weaker' players are the only ones out of nine who can start a fire.

I’m often amused when I read comments about “strong” players getting voted out. In the Darwinist world of Survivor, what constitutes strength is survival of the fittest. Kenny/Crystal/Susie are surviving, ergo, they are the fittest so far as the game is concerned. No? Okay, I think Darwin was wrong too.

Kenny is playing too many cards too early. He’s using his capital before he needs it. Carefully weigh when to deceive people, because when you're found out, you can’t be trusted when you need it most.

No cold Survivor! People are more fun to watch in swimsuits than parkas. Please don’t, I hate being cold.

Strategy and hosting are easier to complain about until you try doing them yourself.

I concur with all the comments made by "My thoughts" posted Friday Nov 14 11.43am. They are the most accurate posted to date in my opinion.
Why would you mix the tribes up one week out from a merge unless you were desperate to get a Kota member voted out. Obviously the producers had given up hoping for a Fang win in the Immunity challenges and had to try and lend a hand. To then merge one episode later smacks of "Oh sh*t, we messed up. We just got the strongest player voted out, we better merge them after all." Why else would you mix the tribes up at such a late stage and then merge them one episode later ?
Sorry Jeff, Survivor is my favorite show on TV but you got it wrong this time. Sometimes it's better to keep out and let the tribes decide their own fate. Good or bad.
I'm no Marcus groupie but I think he should get an award for the "hardest done by" in Survivor history.
Conversely if Crystal wins I demand a RECOUNT !!
Matty deserves to win but I'm afraid he lacks the smarts.

Jeff, I think people are too harsh on you. While you may be opinionated and lippy at times, that's what makes you awesome and different from say... Julie Chen. That's why you earned the Emmy. Don't lose the 'tude just because some people disagree. Stop apologizing for it! You're entitled to your opinion and its not like blogging about it will affect the outcome of the game.

Enjoying your insight Probst. You got spunk.

Rollie Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 03:13 AM EST

Despite her ugly personality- Corinne is HOT, the only eye candy left.
I cant stand Suzie and Crystal, Kenny is ok (whats up with those finger nails-ewww!) but why Suzie and now Sugar would side with Crystal and Kenny when they cant seem to win anything (and Kennys already outright lied to Sugar) is beyond me. Corinne,Bob,Randy,Marcus and Charlie shouldve come up with backup plans- for themselves or for a smaller alliance, so far they seem to find 1 scenario and try and sell it too strongly- and the 'weaker positioned' players arent buying it. Sugar and Mattys allegiance may still be up for grabs- who ever reels them in could go far.

a.e. Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:13 AM EST

Corrine - Attractive??? Corrine is a post-op tranny with the fake boobs to prove it. Her and Crystal. In fact, the remaining cast is pretty fug. Usually the gratuitous body shots are a bonus to this show, but at this point you could put them all in burkas and the audience would be all the better. I wouldn't say worst season yet, but definitely the least attractive.

JeffProbstFan Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:44 AM EST

I cannot stand Kenny or Crytsal or Susie or Randy or Corrine -- wait, who is left? Bob or Matty. Once both of them are gone, I am gone. Marcus and Charlie did not deserve the shaft -- and neither did Ace. I am undecided about Sugar -- one minute I like her and think she is smart; but then, I am like "Really? You fell for that?"

prplrose5 Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:42 AM EST

Jeff, you are the best! Anyone who says differently can just bite it! I'm loving this turn around. It's awesome to see the underdogs peeling away the Onion alliance, one layer at a time. Bob is the only member of that alliance I'd like to see stay in the game. I love Sugar. She's not nearly as dumb as people think.

Jeff Forst Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:21 AM EST

Jeff, regarding the issue of you "sucking", my very fun, ebulliently pretty wife Lisel thinks you're the cat's meow, and then some. In my completely biased opinion, I think she has exceptional taste, as you and I are cut from the same cloth of rough-hewn handsome masculinity. Name facts: her maiden name is Jost, meaning she changes only two letters in her new signature - and you've probably noticed the similarity in our names. Jeff Probst, Jeff Forst wishes you all the best, while hoping you continue to provide my snow-bound wintry wife with her weekly dose of exotic tropical sunshine as long as you can stand (it). You're her - on-air - main man, and with Lisel's high level of backwoods sophistication, that is saying something substantial.

Probst, Jost & Forst - together again!

Cheerio, Jeff

Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:05 AM EST

Probst is an amazing host!

I love Crystal because she is a huge strategist. She keeps her main ally around when she could have backstabbed Kenny. She makes bold moves. She understands that lying is important. She keeps her mouth shut when it matters. When it does not matter - makes for great tv!

KarlHall Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:02 AM EST

By the way Jeff don't you even think about quitting. Hope the Emmy made you safe and satisfied. Survivor would not be the same without the gravelly voice going, "Survivors ready!"

And I wonder, how many more seasons is Survivor signed on to?
