Shrieking masses descend on L.A. for the 'Twilight' premiere

Nov 18, 2008, 07:22 AM | by Carrie Bell

Categories: About Last Night, Film, On the Scene, Twilight

Twilightpattinsonstewart_l There were hundreds of people lining the Los Angeles streets screaming and chanting. There were homemade signs, punny slogans, and custom T-shirts. Attendees declared whose team they were on. There were moms and daughters, men and women, couples and singles. There were even a few people so overcome by emotion that tears were shed. They stood for hours, some for days, to make sure their opinions were seen and heard despite the harsh, ashy air quality caused by the numerous nearby wildfires.

I’m not talking about last weekend’s anti-Proposition 8 rally. No, this chaotic scene, which featured more black, less rainbows, was for the Nov. 17 premiere of Twilight, the epic love story of a high-school girl (Bella) and her vampire beau (Edward) based on the hit book series by Stephenie Meyer. While the two events had several similarities, I dare say the Twilight folks were slightly more fanatical.

“We drove from the Bay Area yesterday, got in line at midnight last night, slept out here, took the day off work, and stood all day in order to fulfill a dream to take a picture or get an autograph from the stars,” enthused Cyndee Sauceda, 40, who works in a law office. “And if that doesn’t work out, it will all still be worth it if we get to touch Kellan Lutz or Robert Pattinson.”

Pattinson & Co. obliged for the most part — posing for cell photos, doling out hugs, signing books, bodies, clothes, signs, pizza boxes, any surface that didn’t cause a black Sharpie to run.  “I’m going to have to ice my autograph hand when I get home,” joked Taylor “Jacob” Lautner. Pattinson, Cam Gigandet, and a few other actors even did a victory lap to slap fan hands after they had completed their initial round of interviews and fan appreciation despite holding up the screening over 45 minutes past its scheduled start time.

“This is crazier and louder than I was prepared for,” said Pattinson (pictured with co-star Kristen Stewart), running his fingers through his trademark floppy locks and looking sharp-dressed goth in his fitted black suit. “With every week, the fervor and anticipation seems to grow. This is my life. People know my name and ambush me in public and try to figure out what hotel I’m staying at and ask me to bite them and want to touch my hair. I have accepted it as real now, but it still feels surreal.”

His leading lady, Kristen Stewart (in a chic Balenciaga mini-dress), arrived minutes after him, her wild swept-up-and-piled two-tone hair giving Pattinson a run for his money. They took their obligatory couples shots, still looking slightly uncomfortable together, as if they are in the middle of a marathon intense-off. Stewart's demeanor, per usual, was reserved, but she admitted that she’s fascinated by the fan devotion. “I’ve been to a lot of premieres, and none of them have ever been as big as this. Maybe if I had been alive during the days of the Beatles it would be different, but I have never been moved enough to camp out for someone or something. The fact that people did that for our movie is heavy. I just hope they think it was worth it after they see the movie.”

After witnessing the phenomenon first hand, I’m not sure it even matters if the final product is Oscar-worthy. (In fact, two Oscar winners, Jaime Foxx and Kim Basinger, used their influence to score the hot tickets for their obsessed offspring.) Hours in, I was still having to shout my interview questions at the top of my lungs because the “Team Edward” cries were being matched by the howls of the Jacob-supporting wolf pack. In this economic downturn, people had obviously spent a pretty penny getting there, getting takeout from local restaurants, decorating the windows of their cars, outfitting themselves in branded merch. “I’d hate to have to be the guy who has to clean all this up afterward,” Gigandet said, referring to the discarded water bottles, sunscreen and snack trash.

Most of the cast and crew were trying to live in the moment and not count their chickens, so to speak, though some tentatively admitted that they’d love to see the saga’s other chapters on the big screen. Director Catherine Hardwicke was matter-of-fact when asked about sequel plans. “It is going to depend on the numbers," she said. "The fans have to really come out in force if they want to see a second movie, because that book will be twice as expensive to make than the first because of the werewolves and special effects. Realistically, this one has to make $150 million to make the financiers think it is worthwhile. If this crowd is any indication, I have high hopes, but I’m also not uncrossing my fingers.”

So, PopWatchers, who's ready to finally see this movie? How far would you go to catch a glimpse of Pattinson in the flesh? Or maybe you can't even read this because you're already camped out somewhere for a premiere...?

MOVIE WAS OK....I JUST WISH THE DIRECTOR WOULD OF REALLY EMPHASIZED ON EDWARD AND BELLA FALLING IN LOVE MORE...THAT WOULDN'T OF HURT OR COST EXTRA MONEY TO DO THAT...THATS WHY I GOT HOOKED ON THE BOOKS...BECAUSE OF THE WAY STEPHANIE MEYER PORTRAYED THEM SO PASSIONATLY FALLING IN LOVE...THE MOVIE WOULD OF BEEN GREAT IF IT WAS A LITTLE LONGER AND REALLY EMPHASIZED ON WHAT STEPHANIE MEYER WAS TELLING IN HER BOOK.

I think the moviie was good but it dissapoint me sOoo much i mean i love the movie it meake me cry(how pathetic that sounds) but the movie make me cry too i first thought pattinson wouldn't the one for playing the role of edward but after watching the movie i love him & see how much potential.
the movie dissapointed me because first: so many awesome parts have been taken away! second: it was going so fast! like in 2 days in the movie it was half the book! some parts were invented i mean the bad ones laurent victoria &james didn't appear until de baseball game wtf! but okok let's forget that but i insist in parts like where they are in the car in the interrogatory from bella to edward & so much more parts that i wanted to see in the movie :(
i was waiting for the movie like a freak i then i got out like this :[ but i think the actors were well chosen pattinson you are great! & so fuckin hot! damn! haha i can´t wait to see new moon! & i think this is a very good competition for potter

I just saw Twilight LAST NIGHT at a special screening of Summit Ent. in San Francisco, CA. OMG--or OME! Rob is such a great actor... very intense. He IS Twilight. I'm watching it Friday, Saturday, and Sunday also.. to make sure Twilight makes Box Office Hit on it's first week! I'm sure it will!!!

chlole Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 11:03 PM EST

haha why is eveyone arguing?

Jen Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 04:28 PM EST

I saw the movie last night and was blown away! It was great! Fans definately will not be disappointed! Robert pulled off playing Edward SOOOOO well. It was awesome!

Leigh Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 03:59 PM EST

I was lucky enough to get tickets for a sneak preview last night.
(Some disclosure...I'm 36, I've read all 4 books, and even waiting in line at midnight for Breaking Dawn)
The movie disappointed me greatly. The part that disappointed me the most was the acting. It just wasn't good enough. Although Jasper played such a small part, he looked constantly SHOCKED throughout the entire movie.
I was disappointed with the meadow scene as well. It did not convey the magic that was in the book. I also thought the makeup was awful. Bella was as pale as the vampires. And the vamps weren't pale in a pretty way. More like a recently embalmed way. Generally I am just hugely disappointed. The good piece is that the kiss is hot. Although, friends commented that if you hadn't read the books, you could have been led to infer that much more intimacy occured between Edward and Bella.

Helen Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 03:00 PM EST

p.s. Reviews are starting to trickle in @ rottentomatoes.com. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/twilight/

Helen Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 02:58 PM EST

@Monica: thank you! that was the first news I've heard from anyone who has actually seen it. That gives me some hope.

Helen Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

Ok. I stopped reading the comments about 3 minutes in. I understand the excitement of the young and in lust, but please, please, please keep the "omg!!!!1!!! so hoooottttt!!!1" comments to a minimum. It doesn't add a lot to the quality of converse and annoys those of us who have been around ew.com prior to the Twilight phenom. I'll overlook squeeling that prefaces an interesting comment. Deal? That being said, I am reading the first book, and look forward to seeing the film. I'm kind of a vampyre buff, so even though there isn't a lot of new concepts here, i do like it when love bytes. :) Sorry though kiddies, the lack of critical review does have me concerned. However, i am certain Edward will make for excellent rotating avatars on livejournal for years to come.

Monica Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 12:36 PM EST

I was a lucky "TwilightMOM" who got to see the movie last night and it was AWESOME! I plan on seeing it again with my husband and maybe again over Thanksgiving holidays. Also, as far as reviews I am expecting them real soon because 1/2 the theater I was at to see the early premier was press!

LW Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

"And for those poor misguided "Team Jacob" folks, let me guess?? You wanted Elizabeth Bennett to marry Mr. Collins instead of Mr. Darcy right??? Jane Eyre to marry St.John instead of Mr. Rochester??? there's a WAY these books are supposed to go - the heroine does NOT end up with the B-list dude LOL"

Nah, for me, I love it when writers use a Native American spin on something (yes I'm half Native American...and a female...over 18). Not to get all up on my cultural soapbox or anything, it's just cool to see some Natives in today's pop culture. :) That's why I'm on Team Jacob.

Jodie Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 11:42 AM EST

Loved the twilight books. I'm on the 4th now. I'm 40 yrs old and I have never been so excited about seeing a movie. I'm going Friday to the opening. I can't wait. I'm a team Jacob member....My daughter and my sister and I have a whole competition going...they are team Edward...booo! The books Kick butt I just hope the movie does too. BTW stop with the spoilers ppl, it sucks.

Jen Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 09:14 AM EST

I love the books and cant wait for the movie!!! Some pictures and movie trailer in HD here http://www.hd-trailers.org/?s=twilight

rebourne Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

THE MOVIE IS AWESOME! no more waiting to be sure and worrying about it now! I saw the advance screening last night and was Thrilled! As much as I have loved the books and the fandom I was admittedly concerned it wouldn't quite measure up simply because we want it to so badly. But it DID! any deviation from the original was GOOD but I wish the baseball confrontation a minute longer and I hoped for more tender moments of Bella and Edward after finally deciding to be together but I can wait for slower connection in future books. Taylor was awesome in his role and all the main students rocked in their parts as well. GREAT SHOW EVERYONE!! I'll be back watching daily over the weekend 3 more times!

caramia Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 08:51 AM EST

For all those wondring why no reviews, I went to a premiere last night in OKC, and the Summit Films rep made sure to tell all of us in the media that reviews are EMBARGOED until Friday. So maybe reviewers are respecting their wishes.

Tried to read the books only to doze off (sorry!), no movie no matter how good folks think it is is worth more than one showing at today's movie prices, and while I may see this someday, can't help but think of one word; Cloverfield.

Nutty Netty Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 12:22 AM EST

YESSS!!! i am totally stoked for the movie to finally come out! i am going to the midnight release, then i'm going AGAIN friday afternoon and AGAIN friday evening <3 !!! i would camp outside rob's hotel if i could lol jk but it would be awesome to meet him under less creepy circumstnces :D

bobbiy Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

i wish i could have gone. its taken me two weeks just to come to an agreement so i can go see the midnight premiere here in Wisconsin. but i still have to go to school the next day. :P
still TOTALLY WORTH IT!

[like someone else on here said.
i'm just a teenage girl who can't go a day without saying TWILIGHT!]

AshleyBarks Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

It sort of sucks when your fifteen, and going to school. You know that there is no possible way in the world that you can even see a premiere of a movie unless you totally skip school with your parents permission. But we all know that that is impossible, unless your a mega-millionaire and your parents are total saps... and you can spare a day or two of school. Many of us are don't fit that description, and have to totally devote their lives to their studies.

I would die, and come back to life to see this movie before anyone, or see RPattz&& KStew in fron of my eyes.

-welcome to the mind of a teenage girl struggling with the fact that she can't go a whole day w/o saying TWILIGHT!-

Oh yeah, and only 2 more days! :D

TwiFan Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

I agree with cndwelch. I am 46 and a total fan of Twilight, even more than by twin teens! I think it's great to see young people caring passionately about something safe and fun. This kind of passion can really translate into other successful things later in life. GO GO GIRLS! (I am crossing my fingers that the movie is good. I am wary that people are expecting a $100+M movie, but that is almost impossible on a $40M budget.) I also think Rob, Kristen and the rest of the cast are handling the fame REALLY well and VERY professionally. Good for them!!!

Dawn Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:35 PM EST

Can anyone say SLEEPER!!! Stephanie Meyers is a brilliant writer, her books are FANtastic!...she makes you laugh and cry right along with the characters in her books. I just couldn't put them down one right after the other once I started reading them. Watch and see shes going to have a block buster on her hands, (hope the rest of her Twilight series get made into movies). By the way; I'm for the underdog (Jake) although I love em all; I felt like I was right there with them sometimes, like I was already watching the movie up close and personal. P.S: I love the name of the last book Breaking DAWN!....NICE.

cndwelch Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 09:32 PM EST

TexFan - thank you for helping us all keep things in perspective. I'm 40 and I'm a huge fan, but I don't say OMG or shriek, and I'm not a confrontational person. I'm a fan, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents about Twilight (I love it!), but got slammed. Sure, there's alot of coverage and alot of hype, but why do people (including supposed fans) have to badmouth the fans who are excited to see the movie? There are movies & books that didn't thrill me, but I would never criticize people who have a different opinion. Fans are fans, and a stranger complaining on the internet is not going to change anyone's mind. Twilight has alot of passionate fans, let us enjoy it!

Moses Lado Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 09:23 PM EST

The Twilihgt series are the best books ever!! I got a girl reading it and now shes in love with Twilight.
Everyday she'd say "_ more days till Twilight!!!"

Mackie Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 08:45 PM EST

TWILIGHT looks to be a pretty awesome cinematic experience - I will not be braving the lines on opening day, but am definitely looking forward to seeing it eventually. The visual aspect of the film looks fantastic!I am not a big fan of the casting choices for this movie, but can relate to the "Twilighters" who camped out for even a mere GLIMPSE of Robert & Co. I know I would do the same for my screen idols - just not for the most-of-the-time-disheveled-looking Pattinson and incapable-of-smiling Stewart.

R_Cherry Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 07:49 PM EST

her dress has style i love it! Rob did something odd with his hair yesterday and it bothers me but he looks really hot despite it.

@teamsheep Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

totally meant digress there lol. but i suppose either works now, doesn't it

@teamsheep Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

that's a little harsh, isn't it? like you've never been a teen so excited about something? and titanic, as i recall, was a pretty excellent film. didn't it win 11 academy awards? tied for most with gone with the wind and the return of the king or something like that? so apparently enough people thought it was good. but i completely regress. let us kids have our fun, okay? hopefully when we are alone and 40 too we'll remember what fun is

Carrie Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

I like Kristen's dress. It's a little different and it suits her. They both look great. I'm looking forward to this movie. I'm really glad it premieres on Friday instead of Dec. 12th. I can't imagine being any more patient. The previews I've seen look so good! I'll probably end up seeing it about 3 times. I got my mom and some of my friends into the series, so I'll be watching it w/ them and then maybe a 3rd time by myself. :)

Trazey Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

I'm 40 and can't wait for the movie LOL but wow I find her dress hideous LOL she looks adorable in the movie trailer tho, exactly as I pictured Bella.

And for those poor misguided "Team Jacob" folks, let me guess?? You wanted Elizabeth Bennett to marry Mr. Collins instead of Mr. Darcy right??? Jane Eyre to marry St.John instead of Mr. Rochester??? there's a WAY these books are supposed to go - the heroine does NOT end up with the B-list dude LOL

TexFan Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

Ok, I just read some of these comments, and I don't get it. I'm over 40, and really enjoyed the books. I liked reading HP too, but I've always been a vampire fan. Anyway, I have introduced several people of various ages to the series, and all are looking forward to the movie (and we NEVER say OMG!) LOL I asked my daughter (19) to read the book so she would come to the movie with me and she did. She told me afterwards that "although I would have never picked this out for myself, I have really enjoyed it and I'm glad you asked me to read it." No OMG's or anything like that. Just enjoyed a good read. Everyone should just take a deep breath, and exhale. It will all be ok, and you will either love the movie, like it, or hate it. All in all, it will not change the shape of the earth, and your opinion will not change another persons. PEACE to all, and take a chill pill! Now, as a non-weird mom, it's not me. I'm remarkably normal. Ask my daughter!

TexFan Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

I re-read the book after I started seeing the stars chosen for the movie. I had no problem seeing these actors, so I am really looking forward to the movie. Based on the trailers, it looks like it is going to stay as true to the book as possible. I can't wait, and will be there with a couple of friends who also, can't wait. I really hope that the movie makes it's $150 mil so that the rest of the series gets made into movies. That would be a set to own!

Raven_Moon Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

I'm excited to see the movie. I'm curious to see what they've done with it. I'll probably be disappointed, because nothing can match they way I imagined it, but I don't want to judge it before I see it.

Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

Wow, I had no idea that reading and enjoying a book/books so much that I wanted to go see a movie based on them could incite to much...intensity. I just came here to read an article. I hope everyone gets what they "want" out of the movie and books.

Kalie Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

I'm not the type of person to go out of my way to see someone famous, plus I'm not a teenage girl, so I didn't really care about going to this premiere. They only got to stand outside, right? It would be cool if you actually got to see the movie w/ everyone else, instead of just holding up signs & screaming for autographs. (I'm sure all those people made the cast feel good, though.) I love "Twilight" and I already pre-ordered my ticket for Friday. I can't wait to see the movie. I'm sure I'll see it more than once because I have friends who love the books, too. I think the cast is pretty perfect and I think the movie is going to be a lot of fun. The previews look great.

Mary Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

I cannot wait! Saw the HD trailer here http://www.hd-trailers.org/2008/11/twilight-feature-trailer/

Ok...ladies and gentlemen...please.
Those of you that are not too happy with all the hype that twilight is getting, can you please look at it from a different point of view for two seconds please. This book has obviously had a huge impact on some peoples lives. Everyone is different in their likes and dislikes, and if you prefer to not like the coverage/hype/excitment about this movie and the books that go along with it, could you just try and keep your comments to yourself for a week or so. I think its the polite thing to do. Let the devoted fans enjoy their buzz.
And as for the "true fan" "poser" thing going on....just stop. The people who feel that they have a certain right to claim they were the first Twilight fanatics should realize that it doesnt matter who read the book first, who can score the most points on a Twilight quiz, or how devoted you are to Team Edward or Jacob. What matters is that these books are spreading, and they pick up new fans everyday. Appreciate it.

So excitied to finally see the movie!!!!!!!!!! If I still lived out in L.A., i probably would have been one of those crazy fans. LETS GO FOR THE SEQUELS, WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe how much press this movie is getting. When I first heard it was going to be a movie I thought "This is going to be huge for the people who have read the books". I had no idea that so many other people would latch on just from seeing the trailers, and I cannot believe how much coverage it's getting in the media. I am so excited to see the movie, but still a little worried that it wont do the book justice. All i hope is that the director stayed true to the idea of the book, and didnt make it overly dramatic, corny, action packed, or fake. I hope that the people who just go to see the movie, and havent read the books, are intrigued enough to go and get the saga. From the first page of Twilight I have been hooked to the characters and their story, and I am so anxious to see everything come to life on the screen like it did in my head. These books literally changed my life.

Aw geez, people are fighting over this? "True fans"? Just stop. A fan is someone loves whatever it is they are in to. You can listen for a hour to a band, watch a movie, or read a book, and right then and there- become a fan. It is not something that takes years or a fansite to create. And know what? I hope people who have never read the books or even *heard* of them go see the movie. Because you know what? We all are not going to "watch a book" but rather a movie based on one. I'm a Twilight fan, but I don't need a fansite or "3 years experience" to prove it. Just sayin'

I didn't say everyone was cast appropriately, and in fact, when Robert was first cast as "Edward" there was outrage in Twilight valley. No one thought he was "perfect" enough. But I did... I loved him as "Cedric" in 'HP'. I am just not sure I ever wanted all of this for the books.. To be on the chopping block because of too much press. I love them too much. I don't love everything about Edward, he pisses me off sometimes, just like real people do, but all in all he is as perfect as a fictional vampire could be, lol. And I love the banter between him and Bella and especially between him and Jacob when they are in the tent on the mountain at the end of "Eclipse". It made me literally laugh out loud. A lot. Call me simple, or whatever, I loved the simple love story, that has probably been told time and time, and TIME again. This is by far the favorite series of books I have ever read. I couldn't put them down. And the "James" factor in "Twilight, gave it an action twist. Loved it. Love it

Oh Lord. With all the "true" fan nonsense. I think anyone who cares enough to inform themselves about the subject and discuss things at length for hours and hours on message boards is a true fan, whether they started reading a month ago or three years ago.

Why are you attacking me? I don't know who you are or what you've posted. My comments are in response to all of the posts here, not any one specific person. I just don't get all the negativity. I have not been "gushing" and I have not used the term "OMG". I'm just saying that I, for one loved the books, and I'm looking forward to the movie. That's all.

Snarf Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

Looking forward to seeing the movie although I'll wait a week - let the screaming me-mes get it out of their system a bit.

Team JACOB and wolf pack, so they got to do New Moon! I think it would be so cool to see the guys turn into werewolves! Way more interesting then flying people (which is still cool btw!). Sop hopefully this weekend goes well! Very excited.

Leslie Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

True THAT. I started reading these books when I was in 7th grade (I'm in 9th now). And people used to call me crazy for waiting in line for BD, or always ranting on about the books... And now NOW those people are reading the books just so they can see the movie. Im glad that theres more movie goers to green light New Moon... But it's like, I'm a Twi Hard, and they're fake. WE were the ones who started the websites, And... UGH. We're TRUE fans.

If Kristen Stewart passes for "bland" then my bank account passes for Stephanie Meyer's.

I feel bad for Shelby's boyfriend. He needs to grow a spine.

Wendy High Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

I cold live without a movie in that case....

Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:12 PM EST

Well, if the fandom were smaller, chances are you wouldn't be getting a movie of it. lol! Can't have both, in this case.

Mrs. Cullen Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

Honestly, I wish what seems like millions of others would NOT like the books or the movies and that I and a handful of others, were the only ones who liked, or even knew about "Twilight". There was a time, not too long ago...when Kristen Stewart didn't even want to try out for this role, because it was so unheard of, and that is when I loved it most. I haven't read all of the other vampire books, but I have seen a lot of Vampire movies, and I think I would like this one, regardless. I like Rob just like I like Brad Pitt... from very far away and with a dose of reality that they are somewhat fictional, as far as I am concerned, themselves.
Why I like the book: because Edward did NOT fall for Rosalie, the typical blonde bombshell, and he did not fall for Tanya, the sexy vampiress, he fell for bland, clumsy, intelligent Bella. And I wanted to steal parts of her truck when she went to go to Jacob as well. Because it wasn't smart. "Run Bella Run, I love you too much. For your good or mine"

@cndwelch Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:06 PM EST

If no one's "right," then why do you seem to think everyone who isn't gushing about the movie should stop talking on here? My enthusiasm has waned, definitely, but I still have an interest in seeing it. I don't have to have a minimum of 3 OMG's in one post to be interested. I'm just not as excited as you, apparently. There's nothing wrong with that either.
I've never blamed anyone for liking the books. And if you read through anything I've said in the past 30 minutes (I'm the only anon poster on here right now), I've actaully listed pretty valid reasons for why people like it. So don't take my constructive criticisms of the books, and my confusion over why a movie that hasn't been seen yet warrants the attention it's getting, as me not liking the books, not that I have to justify myself to you.

erinnc Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Yeah there is definitely a mini review on the Risky Biz Blog, as in 2 to 3 sentences. But it gives me a bit of hope it will be worth my $8

erinnc Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

I did see one tiny review embedded in a blog at The Hollywood Reporter. I was worried, but they seemed to think for the most part the movie was very entertaining.

Bella the Void Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:53 PM EST

And yes....the lack of reviews says MOUNTAINS about the quality of this movie.

Even a Li-Lo movie looks good if it's edited right :o)

How sick is it that a 40-year old mother is fanatical about getting an autograph or POSSIBLY touching a 20-something movie star? Wow, we are a f*cked up nation for sure.

Bella the Void Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

So, you're basically saying it's mindless chick-fic? No wonder the mass appeal!

I dig that the author is making sick bank on rehashed cliches and a 12 yr old's ideologies of love. Nothing like taking a cookie-cutter approach to enrich yourself. The fact that the subject matter is entirely unoriginal? Well, that just makes it all the more comical!

Something to keep in mind: Chivalry is just sexual discrimination that works to your advantage.

cndwelch Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

You can't blame the fans for liking the books. And you can't blame EW for catering to the fans. The same thing has happened with Harry Potter and numerous other franchises. For some people books are just an escape - they don't have to be original. If you really enjoyed the series, why wouldn't you be excited about the movie? Either you like it or you don't - nobody's "right", it's just your own opinion. The movie's coming out this week, so sure there's a ton of coverage, but why does it bother anyone else? There are just alot of people who have been looking forward to Twilight for months. There's nothing wrong with that.

Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

I don't think it does. EW gave Breaking Dawn a "D." And this was after months of hyping it and the movie. I was......actually kind of impressed at the b***s it must have taken for the reviewer to submit that as the grade. lol Especially since I hear they received thousands of chess pieces in the mail as a protest (chess pieces were on the cover of the last book, in case you don't know).

Shamrock Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

Now because of all the coverage and hype given to it by EW, does that put pressure on their reviewer to give it a good grade?
