About that thing that (sniff) happened last night (sniff, sniff) on 'Ghost Whisperer'

Nov 8, 2008, 02:40 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'Ghost Whisperer', About Last Night, Television

Spoilerphobes, don't press play. The rest of us will be discussing the episode after the jump.

I've known Jim's death was coming since my colleague Michael Ausiello confirmed the news (and asked me to describe David Conrad's character for him, and I rambled on about Jim wearing wifebeaters to bed -- professional!). But I think that spoiler made watching last night's episode even more painful. When Jim went back to the cabin, alone, at night, I sat on my couch saying, "No, Jim. No." (The chairs couldn't wait, Jim. Really?) When that detective shot into the cabin, not knowing whether he'd be hitting Jim or the jilted fiancé, I wanted his badge. (How do you feel about that shot? ) When Owen, the little ghost with leg braces, made me cry at the hospital, I knew I was seriously vulnerable. ("No, thank you... you were my friend" -- I can't believe it got me!) And when Melinda finally realized that the Jim she was speaking with wasn't the Jim in the hospital bed, I lost it. "Please, not you. Please, not you." I'm gonna write something I've never written before: Well done, Jennifer Love Hewitt.

What do you think of how Jim's death played out? And where would you like the story line to go now? (I'm up for anything that gives Conrad more to do. I've loved him since Relativity.)

what a disaster to write jim out or is it a nightmear for melinda i really hope so

Katrina Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 04:24 PM EST

I have watched this show from the beginning and loved it but i think a huge mistake has been made and i may never watch again.

Christie Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 03:31 PM EST

Lately TV and movies are all about cheating husbands and wives, failing marriages, divorce. Here was a show, with 2 characters with a great marriage and great chemistry that made it believable. Not all of us want to watch TV and see that keeping a happy marriage is impossible. I loved seeing a happy couple. I loved seeing a TV show portray SOMETHING with values. but Jim dying and being in another man's body? That's just cheating. how could Melinda only love Jim's soul. She loved ALL of Jim. And it is just not believable that she would love another man, so soon, just because she THINKS it's Jim. It's not. It's Sam. And Melinda loved JIM - everything about him. Not just his soul. His face, his touch, his voice. he has none of those things. Why isn't she feeling just the least bit guilty? And why would you choose to join every other show that says a good marriage just isn't what people want to see. I guess either you cheat, lie or steal in a marriage or the person dies.

Maureen in Texas Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:39 PM EST

I watched a few episodes and found myself deleting this crap they call writing to watch 30 yr old holiday reruns with my son this Christmas. They def jumped the shark and tanked a good show. Someone needs to put the writers in a room with the execs at Enron and walmart who think irrational quick schemes will help a product, phooey.
I'll play scrabble with my son and husband instead of watching the show, maybe they did me a favor by unplugging me lol. The people saying they need a chance..well its been weeks months now and nothing has improved, just nose dived into the biggest bore on television. If you think this is good television your opinion is seriously lacking in solidarity and substance.

Penny Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 02:21 AM EST

I loved this show UNTIL Jim dies. Jim was the hunky rock that brought her back from the edge and helped her connect the dots logically. Now she has a hypercritical employee, a wackoo Psych teacher who HEARS things and a goofy teenager to back her up. Go back to the basics which made you successful. Bring him back alive.

Sherilan Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

Im am so dam sad about killing off JIM Im so hoping this will be a bad azz dream

carolync Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

Bad, Bad mistake. Mistakes can be
fixed. So fix it. Do you want the show
the way you want it and loose all your viewers and the show be cancelled
or our way and fix it. Jim in someone
else's body come on........

Diane Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:35 PM EST

I watch this show from day one and I loved it.When Friday night came around I was glued to my seat. NOW! when I watched it this past Friday.I tryed to get into it, 30mins later I starting watching something else. It's not the same anymore.Jims ghost in someone else body. HUH NO.Thanks for ruining a good thing.

Heather Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:11 PM EST

I have watched this show from the beginning and I understand that they are not getting rid of Jim. I will watch and see what happens. But if this is just a ploy to ween us off of David Conrad and slowly replace him with the young blonde guy, I'm seriously going to be finished with this show. -- Dubious at best for the moment.

Janice Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

If the ratings were good. it's because most everyone was hoping Jim was alive. They really messed up big time with this one. I think David had more fans then Jennifer. The writers should have did a poll on who to bump off and who to keep. Judging by the comments, this was a big mistake. Cbs, This doesn't include the fans that didn't leave a comment. uh oh. As for anyone complaining about people ending their relationship with the show. Oh well! I'm done with it. It just left fantasyland and entered into STUPID!!!! I hope David finds a much better show that appreciates him, I know I will. He's a wonderful actor that deserves better. They threw this show into the bug zapper...ZZZZZZZZZZZZttt!

Janine Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

I agree with most of you. I am not watching this show anymore. They went in the wrong direction killing Jim and then having him take over another man's body. I don't want to watch him in another mans body. And then to find out that this will not last but for a couple of more episodes. What were they thinking??????? Obviously they were not. The anchor of the show was the relationship between Melinda and Jim. And the reason why so many people watched the show this past friday was because we wanted to know what happened to Jim. I think the producers better come up with something to bring Jim back. They are going to lose a lot of viewers if they don't. I think they should do the storyline like in the TV show Dallas. Melinda wakes up and it was all a dream, and Jim is back were he should be. The producers have made a lot of loyal watchers very angry.

It happened!!! Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

This show was one of my all time favorites.....UNTIL.....Jim dies and gets in someone else's body. Talk about Jumping the shark.

In the interview he says jumping the shark is when the show breaks the rules, right?! Well the show just did....we already saw a ghost take over someone elses body and the body ends up dying and the "soul" needs to go into the light. How can "Jim" survive in the body and continue a relationship with Melinda. This show lives in the unbelievable but this just sends it over the edge. I am removing this show from my TIVO list!!!

Maybe there is hope that she will wake up after her being shot?!?!?

kez Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

Come on people have an open mind, its not real life its fantacy any think is possible. Dont rant on about quiting the show if you are a true fan u will watch. the actors on the show are brill, Jennifer and David. i think this storyline has a lot more twists like many i dont want jim dead but im going with the new journey till the end if you dont watch you may miss a point in the story that you may like. come on fans dont give up yet

linda Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 01:10 AM EST

I read that Jim is going to stay in this other mans body but that WE and Melinda will see the SAME actor playing Jim and he is going to eventually date and love Melinda all over again. And that they WILL have their baby.
I dont know if he will ever know the truth..maybe she will tell him eventually...and I dont know how she will explain dating another guy after Jim's death or if she will stop wearing false eyelashes..LOL..or if Delia will ever have a much deserved love life on the show...but I will tune in.

Diamond Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 11:13 PM EST

Please don't to this to me! Ghost whisper is NOTHING without Jim! I love him,and I hope it is just a dream. You can't make him go into another body and have Melinda love him, that would be gross!Just please make it that it was a nightmare, this show is ruined without him.
I sat there in my room watching Ghost whisper and couldn't stop crying. Please stay alive! Directer if you choose for him to die,you are making a BIG mistake! PLEASE LET HIM STAY ON!!

JR Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:04 PM EST

JO, this is not the first time a body has been possessed in GW. It's staying true to the mythology already established in the series. Not jumping the shark here.

Jo Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 04:47 PM EST

Of course the episode last had high ratings. We all wanted to see if they would bring Jim back. Jim took over a body that could not be saved by the EMTs. He magically made it live. Is Ann Rice out there? But then I don't think even her vampires could have created life where it no longer existed. This a Sci-Fi series not a Sci-Fi-STUPID series. I am done. GW jumped the shark. Good-bye.

JR Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:06 PM EST

Emma1990: Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Jim clearly possessed the body. I was simply arguing against the assumption of where the direction of the show is heading. People are making this out to be as if the show had revived Jim through another character, permanently, in order to solve their death problem. To me it's quite evident that's not the case. The possession didn't have the desired result, at least so far. Jim will be inside this body for a couple of episodes, and then the mini arc will end. Trust me, if they had intended to revive Jim permanently through another actor, they would've looked for a much better one. This guy is simply filler to serve the purpose of the current small arc.

Rod Waring Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

This is a really good show, but this stuff now is so way out there I had to ask my wife is there was another writers strike I didnt hear about. Come on guys you can do better than this.

JR Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 12:49 PM EST

Lisa, I'm simply saying that all is not what it seems. It's clear that Jim's plan backfired on him, so far. He thought he could possess the body and simply be that guy, but as we see he apparently messed up. I really doubt this is the case of "put Jim's soul into someone elses body and be done with it" thing. For all we know, him being inside this guy's body might be causing him harm. I think this "new" character will stick around for a couple of episodes to make an arc of it, but that's it. This won't be a "we revived Jim permanently through this other body".

JR Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

David Conrad is not off the program. Also, ratings for last night's episode are out, and they were great.

Carlo Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 11:02 AM EST

All I can tell you is if David Conrad is off this program, I'm done watching it. He made that show "Real"

Emma1990 Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 10:40 AM EST

JR I'm a little confused. Are you saying that Jim is not inside another man's body but has actually managed to resurect himself accidentaly? I thought they had done something like charmed and made his take over the other guys body and too the outside world he appeared like that guy but to Mel he was good old Jim. Help!!

Lisa Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

JR, can you explain? From the previews and the talk of spirits not being able to remember past lives, it would appear that Jim went into that body, doesn't remember Melinda, but as one preview scene showed he says something like "I don't know you but I feel connected to you."

JR Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 09:30 AM EST

Are you guys even paying attention? They're not putting Jim's soul into the body of another. That's what Jim intended to do, but it backfired. Seriously, are you so called fans care for the details? Or do you simply enjoy the fictitious world you've created in your mind?

Rick Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 08:45 AM EST

My wife and I just loved the show untill Jim was killed off. You can't put one mans soul into another mans body and expect the show to be the same. We will watch one more episode and if things don't get better we won't watch any more. We loved the simple and honest love that they had for one another. Good show, but the writers should have been the one's behind the curtains.

Donna Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 06:34 AM EST

I watched Jim's "death" with disbelief and disapproval. I didn't like when the Professor was taken off - replacement character does nothing for me - and now this. Then, for Jim's character to take over another body ... come on! I thought this was better than day-time soap opera story line. I'm just very disappointed in where this program is now and not sure I'll continue to be a fan.

blunt Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:20 AM EST

Okay. I watched the Nov.14 episode to see how the writers who supposedly respect the fans too much to tinker with the relationship that we had with these characters. But my faith was misplaced and I'm done. I enjoyed the show because thru all the fantasy stuff the marriage relationship rang true and shows that celebrated marriage were few and far between. So now I'll just keep looking. Good bye GW, hope it was worth it to keep the old creative juices flowing in a 'new' way. Enjoy.

Alicia M. Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:08 AM EST

I don't get it. If David Conrad is not leaving the show, what is the point and purpose of killing Jim off? That husband and wife relationship made the show worth watching, even when the ghost stuff was boring and repetative. Jennifer Love.....Your show....it's going into the light....hurry up and cross it over - because its dead!

beth Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 11:46 PM EST

I see a ghost...in this case the ghost of a once good television program. I watched this week in the hope that Jim might be in a coma. But no, he's dead and so is the show. I'm done with it.

Eve Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

I Sure Hope she is still dreaming!!! This is ridiculous!!!

This is by far the best tv program! I guess I have to look forward to a new tv show.

Eve Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM EST

Been watching since day one!!!! tonight is my last!!!!

Rhonda Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 09:28 PM EST

I criied for at least 2 hrs over Jims Death but I think Melinda may have been forwarned and right as she finally told Jim yes on the baby. They cant take it off the air though come on it is the one show I look forward to all week long come on give me a break not my show

Melody Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

I just started watching Ghost regularly this season. I've been so stressed and agitated by television where nothing good ever happens to the primary characters; where the struggle between good and evil never allows discovery or resolution. The thing that attracted me to Ghost was that the main characters had some amount of love and normalcy in an otherwise unconventional existence. I think the storyline of Jim and Melinda trying to get pregnant was far more interesting than having Jim become yet another Ghost in Melinda's life. There are lots of directions the show could have gone in rather than create this gut-wrenching tragedy. The creators say they needed to take a risk... well so be it. Their risk lost this viewer.

Liz Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 09:02 PM EST

Um... just weird. Guess they think this storyline will help with sweeps.

Jo Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

I will not watch gost whisherer any more this is not good tv. How could
you ruin a really good show.

diane Jones Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:37 PM EST

See Iknew she would quit the ghost thing wo him her precious husband

Diane Jones Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:34 PM EST

They needed to have babys and live a happy life What did they do!?????

DIANE jONES Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

WHY DID THEY KILL OFF HER HUSBAND I WASNT ABLE TO SEE EVERY EP. SO PLEASE FILL ME IN tHANK YOU! y HIM AND HER WERE MAGIC TOGETHER!!!!!

Morgan Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

OMG I was so pissed about it too like everyone else!!! but good news, they aren't going to actually get rid of him on the show, so tehre might be a twist and maybe he'll actually be okay, but they said they weren't going to get rid rid of him for good!! That I am so glad about!!!

Lorena Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

I can't believe they killed Jim! If he really is dead, then I am not going to watch this show ever again. This used to be my favorite show but now I never want to watch it again. Tonight might be the last episode I see. What were the writers and producers thinking? That was a bad move on their part. Why would you kill off such an important character that everyone loves? That's crazy! I can't stand it! The ratings will probably drop now.

Goldie Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 06:43 PM EST

I just don’t understand their reasoning. First they take Jay Noth off, then they kill off Jim. It was the only show left where there was a husband and wife,That were not cheating on one another, or lying to one another. I cried.
I’m still hoping he it just in a comma. Who ever wrote that, should have thought that through just a little better. What cop shoots through a blind not being able to
see who he it shooting at. Bring Jim back or Jay Noth. I could see Jay and Melinda
Together.

Tai Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 03:23 PM EST

This reminds me of Dallas, when Bobby was shot and ratings went down so fast they turned it into a dream sequence to bring him back, because Patrick Duffy was intending to leave. JR, you have a point about the writers, but it's also about the viewers as well. Without viewers, a show will tank. It's more of a wait and see attitude more than anything. If enough fans boycott the show, they might have to "fix" it so Jim will come back. Is Melinda pregnant? One of the last episodes I watched was the one before Jim's death where she said she thought she might be pregnant. I don't think they should have killed him off with the possibility of a family coming, but that is most likely what the writers intended to do, to see how far love goes and how this family will function with one "crossed over" or not crossed over as of yet. Don't stop watching, though, I know a lot of you are disappointed and shocked, but keep watching, you never know what will happen next.

Mateo Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

I am really upset that Jim's character was kiiled off. I say we boycott until they bring him back on! Except that I am a big fan of Jennifer and Camryn (??sp). If something ain't broke, don't fix it!!!! So many of my favorite shows do things to "spice up" the story. If I wanted death and mayhem, I would turn on the news. Who ever made this call, you blew it!!!! I want Jim back!!!

Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

sniff.

Leah D Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 05:14 AM EST

I was really bummed when Jim was killed off last Friday, pretty much for all the reasons stated below. JR, this is way more than ONE plot change - it's a huge change. After reading the producers' blog in TV Guide, I will give it one more chance. If Jim is going to be an earth-bound spirit hanging around for Melinda, I'm pretty sure I won't like the show any more. We'll see.

Bob and Ruth Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 02:53 AM EST

Well, That's it for us also. never again will watch the show, unless they don't kill him off. This is B.S. Never been this PISSED about a Movie before.

kim Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 11:57 PM EST

I too will no longer be watching the show if they dont turn this into some kind of "dream sequence" within the next 1 or 2 episodes. I can barely stomoach watching it this week after the death of a great couple last week. Even if he sticks around in the "after life" and doesnt "go to the light" in order to be with Melinda, it will not be the same and I wont be sticking around to see the farce they make of it. So, it kills me to even give them the second chance by watching another week, but if things dont get put back on course for Jim and Melinda in the "real world", I too will be a done deal in regards to the show.

Nerissa Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 09:36 PM EST

I think they've lost their minds! why kill Jim I loved his character. He played a major part esp.since I thought they were going to allow Malinda to have a child sometime in the near future now that's a huge NOT.The network may have just lost a faithful 'Whisperer' watcher

Concerned Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 03:12 AM EST

Thank Jm that articles does give us something to look forward too apparently the episode on the 21st will be Melinda's and Jim's most romantic ever.
I also agree that people make assumptions too soon, my concern was losing 2 characters so soon, Payne and Jim, but seems we are not losing Jim, and things could get more interesting, as my interst in the show is the supernatural and unexpected, why I miss Payne so much, he was a study of the subjects but no real experience, I thought his character was so perfect working with Melinda, really gonna miss him.
Seriously though considering the topic of the show, if you want happily ever after stuff go watch the Cosby Show, I will actually miss Payne the most, at least he didnt die maybe he will come back, and purhaps Jim will be more interesting now.

elizabeth Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 12:14 AM EST

Mad as HE**. We told them by the thousands not to do it and they did it anyway, and it the cheesiest GH eppy EVER! (The eppy was weak anyway, and then the end didn't strain credulity, it tore it to shreds.) I've heard there's a twist coming this week too, so I may stay for that, but if they don't fix this for the fans, we're gone. I know that there are thousands of us ready to pack up for good, and we warned 'em last summer we would be gone. They didn't listen, so unless something big changes, GH will be gone next year or sooner. I just cannot imagine the ratings holding up. I like Love, but she was much stronger with David Conrad. Without? Sap city. Sorry.

Amy again Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 10:50 PM EST

Thanx jm, that gives some hope anyway. Guess I will reserve judgement till after Friday.

Amy Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 10:46 PM EST

Ok, having a hard time dealing. I had Tivo'd the show, but hadn't watched it yet, then I see previews for this week's episode and was like WHAT???? so I just watched THE episode! Not a happy camper here at all! :(

jm Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

I just read the article from the producers of the show.

Pretty interesting...

http://www.tvguide.com/Celebrity-Blogs/Ghost-Whisperer-Threshold-60476.aspx

Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 04:36 PM EST

I will quit watching the show if Jim dies. I sick of change on important characters.

Meg Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

Everyone is freaking out but if any of you paid attention last season, ghosts were possessing people's bodies all over the place. I have a hunch that Jim is going to stick around, but maybe in a different way. I think this is the best thing to ever happen to Ghost Whisperer, Jim just walked around looking good in the past but now we can really get to know him!

petert Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

hey guys check out this message from the executive producers; also look at the new exclusive clip of the next week’s episode to ghost whisperer

http://www.tvguide.com/Celebrity-Blogs/Ghost-Whisperer-Threshold-60476.aspx

Anna Perdue Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 09:31 AM EST

I was devestated!Of all people to kill off! That pretty well done it for me. The only thing they could do make it right again,is to write it as a dream sequence, because that is soo messed up!

Sheila Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 09:14 PM EST

Can we say - where's the shark they just jumped? I specifically skipped GW last week because if they were going to kill him off - I did NOT want to watch that. I found out that they in fact did kill the Jim character off. What are you thinking? Why is it that shows have to change things so dramatically or throw silly side items in there to "keep" their audience. Well - you just lost some of your audience with this one - I won't be watching it anymore. The relationship between them was part of the backbone of the show. Again - what were you thinking?

NancyR Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

I certainly agree that writer's can write and should write shows based on their own creative muse. However, it also can carry a consequence and there are many shows that tanked because writer's chose creativity over what the audience wanted. This may or may not happen with GW, I don't know. What I find interesting is that the producer's consider this a twist? How many shows have killed off a spouse or significant other to "shake things up"? It isn't new. I think it's much rarer to see happy couples on TV than singles running around trying to find someone else. The unique thing about GW was the juxtaposition of Melinda's private life with her paranormal one. Now everything is paranormal? How dull and how predictable. I won't say "I won't ever watch the show again", but it has lost some of it's appeal.

Tink Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

I really don't like CBS any more. There are NO good shows on TV. GW was great mostly because of the relationship between husband and wife. They've gotten rid of every good supporting character. I could care less about Delia and the new Ned. I liked Andrea, Professor Payne and Jim. JLH by herself can't hold my attention. Eli/Jamie Kennedy is just yucky. Someone compared David Conrad's leaving to the string of boyfriends on Sex in the City. Well, some of us hate that show because we don't believe Tramps in the City is remotely interesting or portrays the values we live by. Without Jim, GW is going to turn into just another trampy show. It's going to wind up canceled. This was the dumbest move CBS could have made. It's like Northern Exposure without Maggie and Joel, Charmed without Leo and Piper, Lois & Clark without Lois & Clark. People DO fall in love and STAY in love. I want to watch it on TV, too, not a string of shallow relationships.

Rachel D Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

I've loved Ghost Whisper since day 1, but after this last episode I will no longer watch it. Jim and Melinda were a great love story and I'm all set with him being a ghost. Time to watch something else on Friday nights. What a dumb thing to do to the show.

Judy Woodland Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

I too will not be watching Ghost Whisper anymore. Do they think that killing off Jim will be good for the ratings. I have a feeling this will bring and end to this series.

sonya campbell Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Why do writers always feel as though they have to "shake things up"? They've made a grave mistake (again). Their marriage and his understanding of her talent to be a ghost whisperer was the glue that held the show together. If they make him a ghost - well, let's just say there are enough ghost on there as it is. I won't say I'll stop watching but I believe the show is going down the toilet from hid death.

disappointed Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

I am so disappointed in how they took out Jim. You people wrecked my favorite show. I dont know if I will ever watch again!!!!

Lisa in Kentucky Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:09 AM EST

Disappointing. I have watched this show since day one. GW has seen way too many changes, and has gotten away from the heart touching stories that was common in the early seasons. Losing Andrea, then the professor and now Jim's character (even if he remains in ghost form) is too much. If the show goes in the direction is appears to be going based on what the directors & tv.com says, I will no longer watch the show. It is a shame it had to come to this.

JR Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 09:46 AM EST

I'm not a writer, and I'm not giving the writer's point of view. I'm giving the viewer's point of view in which I look forward to experiencing the story that the writers intend to tell without being influenced by crybabies that feel they are entitled to "direct" the way the story should be told to fit their specific needs for the show.

I have no problems with people not liking an element here and there, but this are people that obviously enjoy the show, and simply because they disagree with ONE plot choice from the writers to have this kind of reaction is dumb in my opinion. I find the whole "JIM CAN'T BE GONE, I'M GOING TO STOP WATCHING. THE WRITERS ARE COMPLETE MORONS THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING" types of rant ridiculous. They're just that, and they're empty because the show will be just as popular as ever, which leads me to believe that people are simply hypocrites. And more so, when they have no clue on what's going on, and they express themselves as if they knew. They don't.

To JR Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 09:29 AM EST

Are you a writer? I have a feeling you are giving a writers point of view. I agree with you that you don't want to force someone to change their creative view. But the writers have to realize that not everyone is going to like what they do. But I think that the writers should take into account that This show is as much the viewers as it is the writers because without the viewers it's just a script saved on their PC with no one to watch it. I have a feeling that the viewers will wait and see but let them express themselves. This is still fresh for us.

JR Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:41 AM EST

To "to JR"... I'm aware that it was a sad episode. I simply find it ridiculous with the overraction of "writers are dumb, I'll stop watching this!!!". They're empty threats, and I've always had a disdain for people that try to force writers to keep things the "same". Writers need to feel free to write what they please to tell THEIR story... not the one we want it to be. I also find it ridiculous when people don't know WHERE they're going to go with this. They start assuming crap and drawing premature conclusions of things that are probably quite different than what they expect.

To Kim: Jim is not gone. Jay left on his own to find a better opportunity for himself. NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SHOW'S STAFF. Killing the best friend was a good move... they were some powerful episodes, and brought the whole "action and consequences" dilemma to the series; "cause and effect". They simply did a poor job replacing her, as I think the replacement character sucks.

Nix Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:23 PM EST

I'm still shocked to find women watch this show and for the relationship. I thought the whole point was to ogle JLH's assets.

Barbara Nelson Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:32 PM EST

Please, please, please bring Jim back. Mel is always having bad dreams-- couldn't this just be a bad dream. Please bring him back.

AMY Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:28 PM EST

NOW, WATCHING THE LAST WEEK SHOW. AND READING SOME OF THE THE THOUGHTS OF PEOPLE AND THE WRITERS THOUGHTS. I KNOW THIS ISN'T THE END OF JIM. ONLY THE BEGINING. THEY WON'T KILL HIM OFF BECAUSE THEY WILL LOSE VIEWERS. DO YOU REALLY THINK, THEY WANT TO LOSE VIEWERS? ITS LIKE KILLING OFF MELINDA AND MAKING HER A GHOST OR SOMETHING. WON'T HAPPEN....

Fini Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:02 PM EST

This is why I like to read (and write)stories that end "Happily Ever After." I love the relationship between Jim and Melinda, knowing from the beginning they would probably kill him off because that's what tv writers do when they have no original ideas.

And, as a former Intensive Care nurse I am so sick of the way they portray medical staff in shows. Do they even have a consultant? That poor excuse of a "code" with the lame chest compressions--not to mention having a person post op with no side rails up. It drives me crazy, much like the way the idiot detective who shot blindly must drive LE crazy. And another thing. There are wonderful men like that in the world. I have been married to a great guy like Jim for twenty years!

Splash. That was the sound of this show jumping the shark.

Click. That was the sound of me taking GW off my DVR. Buh-bye.

Sherrybaby Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

So don't most of the ghosts we see all have on whatever they were wearing when they died? So we see Jim in the bed with a hospital gown on, but when he appears to Melinda, he's wearing a blue shirt. Aren't we departing from the "rules" here a little? Of course it would be a little awkward for him to prance around wearing nothing more than a gown, but what a view!!!

To JR Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 05:40 PM EST

Try being nice. It was a sad episode because viewers liked Jim. Viewers have a right to be sad about it.

kim Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 05:26 PM EST

I just can't believe they did that. That is the 3rd supporting actor they have cut. First there was her best friend who died in the plane crash, then Jay Mohr left, and now Jim. The writers of this show are nuts if not stupid. How are they going to kill of the only other good character besides the main one. This show might not last another season.

Rachel Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:10 PM EST

Geesh!! What is with Friday nights and not a good show being able to last?? With Jim leaving, it is going to stink even more, the story lines are boring but David Conrad makes it worth watching. I miss Moonlight and MissMatch. Only stupid shows remain on TV and the good is taken away. Go firgure.

Josie Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 03:32 PM EST

I just watched the show and am in tears. This was the worst decision the writers could have made. I love Jim and Melinda together and cannot imagine watching this show without the element of their relationship with Jim ALIVE. The writers need to make this a dream and Jim is fine. PLEASE!!!

kim day Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:58 PM EST

I have watched the show from day ONE! I cannot believe they would kill off Jim!!! I think they need to make this be an awful dream...and leave Jim alive!!!!!

missy Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

I have watched Ghost Whisperer from the very beginning but if they take David Conrad off I WILL BE DONE!!! He makes that show and it would not be worth watching if he is a spirit, or on some other plain oe WHATEVER!!! Just let him be OK and let he and Melinda have their baby. This will be such a mistake if they kill off his character.

frank Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:31 PM EST

melinda will get increasingly bitter and angry and her canines will start to grow. then they'll change the title to 'ghost moonlighting'!!!! yay!!!

Laura Rea Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

I have watched this show from the start..but you blew this one. PLEASE bring JIM BACK ALIVE.

penny Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

I am now finished with this show. Ist they kill off the best friend, then they send away her professor fiend, her father, who really wasn't her father is a murdered and then is killed by her actual father. and now this. I am so done with this melodrama. It should be fun and entertaining to watch tv not just depressing. Drama is not Melodrama....

cb Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

I used to love the show
I will never watch it again
I cant believe the writers did that
currently looking for a new friday night show

Melissa Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:57 PM EST

Friday was too much.. How depressing.. who wants to watch a show about a woman missing her dead husband but can still talk to him. This show lost my vote. I hope they cancel it. I can't wait to see David Conrad in something better.

JR Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:23 PM EST

You people are simply ridiculous.

Stop with your empty threats because they mean nothing.

How much did the "fans" cry this summer about Bones? Where are they now? More popular than ever.

Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:08 PM EST

Fridays show was sooooooo sad ... the writers must want this show to off the air otherwise why would your kill off Jim oh yeh and if Meliisa is having a baby this will not make up for it ... If Jim really died then NO MORE GW.

BAILEY Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

I will never watch that show again.
Totally ruined it

Kel Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:52 AM EST

He may be "dead" but that doesn't mean he is off the show. There are a lot of different things they could do with this. That may be able to "revive" Jim. Or, maybe he will stick around in spirit form and help Melinda out with other ghosts.

Rochelle Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:23 AM EST

I was soooo mad, I have watched the show since the beginning. First they kill off her friend, who I really liked, and now her husband. This better be a dream, or I am done with the show!!!!

Connie Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:03 AM EST

Watched the show from day one and fell in love with Melinda and Jim's relationship...this made the show. Now it's over and so is the show along with their dedicated fans.
Put Jim back! Miracles do happen.

Tank Riggins Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:44 AM EST

I've heard of jumping the shark, but jumping the shark before you actually jump the shark, well, that's a new one.

Mostpeople watch a show because of the chemistry of the cast. Now that it's gone, the show will soon be as well.

Sophia Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

I am so disappointed. And for so many reasons. Yes, the hopeless romantic in me loved their story. Loved their marriage and their relationship. It was so nice to see such a supportive husband. And to see a strong marriage survive the hardest times, with added stress. It was a breath of fresh air in a world full of divorce, ugly relationship battles in public, and so many unmarried couples having children - then breaking up. And his character was growing. He was becoming more a part of her ability to help the dead. It is just so disappointing on so many levels. There are very few shows I stay loyal to. And I must say that this may make me drift rather than watch every episode. There were so many other ways they could have made his character become more a part of her world. This is the second charcter that has left that I truly liked. Jay Mohr may have left on his own, but his character was fantastic. I do not care for the man who has replaced him.

Brandizzle Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

She better be preggers with his child!!!

Dee Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 09:53 AM EST

Yeah I thought the writers said that they wouldn't do that to fans. If Jim doesn't come back then no biggie. I just won't make it a point to watch the show. They keep getting rid of good characters that fit. The only one I like left is the son of Camryn. She's so insignificant on this show that I can't really remember the name of her character.

Shaun Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 09:43 AM EST

I haven't watched GW since Andrea's demise at the beginning of the 2nd season, but I have some friends who kept watching it and begged me to watch this episode with them. I have to say, Jennifer Love Hewitt has come a long way from her "PO5" days, she was brilliant in that final scene!

Screaminmimi Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 09:28 AM EST

Two Male leads in one season! Not a good choice for a Great show. Bring Jim back, ALIVE!

Concerned Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:00 AM EST

It tells you here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ghost_Whisperer_episodes#Season_4:_2008-2009
It seems Jim will be some how reincarnated as Sam from the following episode descriptions, as they call him Sam/Jim and he apparenly dont remember who is is, as for who Sam will actually be (actor wise) don't know, but does not appear to be a dream you guys are hoping for.

Lorie Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:57 AM EST

I fully believe he'll stick around as an earthbound spirit. He won't go into the light. Jim being alive or a ghost matters not to me. So long as he's on the show, I'm good. Maybe as a ghost, he can give Melinda some inside info that other ghosts couldn't give her...info that'll help her help others.

Cheryl Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:56 AM EST

Go check out the scoop on the next 2 episodes on tv.com. The one titled Heart & Soul is about Melinda connecting to a man with amnesia. I think Jim comes out of a coma with amnesia and they need to find their way back to each other. Don't stop watching because of what you think might happen...stick around and see what actually does happen.
And here;s hoping they fire that bone0headed cop who shot at two people without knowing who was who!! Unbelievable!!
