EW's Sexiest Movies Ever: Weigh in!

Nov 21, 2008, 04:40 PM | by Pop Watch

Categories: DVD/Video, Sexytimes

1023sexiestmovies_l EW's special DVD issue spotlighting the 50 Sexiest Movies Ever is on stands today. (I'm kind of loving the image of Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet engaged in hot post-pool sex on the cover; the muddy rainwater on his upper thigh really drives the "dirty" point home.) You can count down titles 50 through 26 online today, then look for the top 25 on Monday (or pick up the issue on newsstands and see 'em all now). So tell us, printmongers: Are you all worked up over a movie we left off our list? Blissfully happy about the ones we included? In heat for no apparent reason? Share your thoughts now!

How could you NOT include "Against All Odds"?????

amy Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 10:29 PM EST

I agree that the opera scene from Maytime should be included with all-time romance movies. The real romance movies are not skin flicks but what is shown in the acting.
I also think the final scene in Rosemarie when they sing Indian Love Call shows such emotion that there can be no doubt about the feeling they have for each other. Also, the scene in New Moon when they sing "Wanting
You" is very romantic. Guess I'll always be a fan of their movies.

leeann Sun, Mar 1, 2009 at 02:02 AM EST

I'd like to include Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy's "Maytime" in the list for consideration. The opera scene where they are reunited after believing that they met too late because Jeanette was promised to another and went through such unhappy lives because of their decision is so emotional it seems to go beyond acting. Their excellent blend of voices adds to the romance.

leeann Sun, Mar 1, 2009 at 01:34 AM EST

What is romantic to one person may be too much exposure to another. One of my all-time favorites is "Maytime" with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. The opera scene is so well done. It renews an old romance of two people who "met too late" but never got over their love. No nudity, but terrific emotion and vocalizing that seemed so real it surpassed acting.

catherine Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 09:01 AM EST

What about the phone booth scene in TRUE ROMANCE?? MY god Christian Slater rips off Patricia Arquette's underwear while pressing her up against the side of the phonebooth as Elvis Presley rocks in the background. It really doesn't get any hotter than this.

You left off "The Hunger!" And when a very gay man gets turned on watching two women make love, you know it is hot! Of course those two women do happen to be Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon. Maybe that helps?

And thanks for including "Maurice." Was that your way of leaving off "Brokeback Mountain?" Too obvious? I mean, come on! My female friends were turned on watching Heath and Jake reunite and kiss each other madly at the bottom of those stairs!

Michelle Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 03:45 PM EST

What about Rob Roy with Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange. And while we're talking kilts, Braveheart? Come on! And there were a couple of hot scenes with Meg and Nick in City of Angels - we're talking sexy, not award winners, right?

Theresa Sullivan Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 02:13 PM EST

OK - this is late - just picked up EW in the doctor's office. The PIANO!! When Harvey Keitel, under the piano, spots a hole in Holly Hunter's stocking...and touches her skin there. OMG!

Linda Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

Remember a movie called "The Other Side of Midnight"? I sure do!

Nicole Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

Just watching Daniel Craig walk down the street in Layer Cake was enough to give me the vapors but for those that need a woman in the picture, the almost sex scene between him and Sienna Miller was exciting and beautiful.

GP Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 02:03 PM EST

Tequilla Sunrise, the hot tub scene is my all time favorite ,so tastefully done, yet so sensual.

Nelson Hayes Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 12:44 AM EST

How could you forget Debra Winger's character Kit in Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky"???!!!

Cena Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 08:41 PM EST

The Pillow Book with Ewan McGregor...

Fancy Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 11:38 AM EST

Hello, have you never seen "The Lover"?? That is the sexiest movie I've ever seen. And Rob Lowe and Demi Moore in "About Last Night..." some of the hottest scenes ever, when they are making love in the bathtub with the shower running over them...come on! And the double head-phone seduction, who can forget that one!

Rex Stocklin Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 02:14 AM EST

It would seem that to qualify as a sexiest movie all one has to do is show some skin or merely have a sex scene, albeit, hotter than usual. Plus many entries are really merely romantic, as opposed to sexy. Though I spose, one man's thermometer is another's swizzle stick.

See kiddies, I've swung around ole Sol a fair number of turns and know that "sexy" is a frame of mind, an atmospheric, from the ephemeral to the pervasive.

Thus I take issue with the lumbering "English Patient", though being an ardent Binoche-ophile, go gaga over "Chocolat", conspicuously absent from the proceedings.

Also, a movie like "Once", incredibly sweet & loving, I wept, but sexy? Maybe for the unrequited lovers out there.

I AM glad to see the high water mark "Body Heat" make it and high, but I think it should be numero uno, not that I hated the Clooney-J-Lo vehicle.

AND I am super happy to see two modern steam baths, "Secretary" (another contender for number one, in my book) and "Swimming Pool".

part 2>

Rex Stocklin Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 02:14 AM EST

part 2:

Also it is good to see "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," "Y Tu Mama Tambien," "sex, lies and videotape," "Like Water for Chocolate." But "The Bodyguard?," "Titanic?," "Ghost?,"The Bridges of Madison County???" zzzzzz and I mean c;mon now "300"????!!!!

BUT, where oh where is your minds, leaving off Ellen Barkin's sex-drenched "Siesta," Kris Kristofferson's molten soft porn with Sarah Miles in "The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea," the devastatingly sensual Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon (oh and recall the lemon scene in "Atlantic City?"), David Bowie vampire lust bacchanalia "The Hunger," or the classic Irons-Binoche obsession "Damage".

Methinks you EWers don't have a great deal of experience with real sex in cinema. Listen to your more knowledgeable readership & reboot this poll.

Linney Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 04:01 AM EST

What about The Pillow Book? Ewan McGregor and Vivian Wu with all that ink and beautiful calligraphy.

Janet Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Darn typo! Re Vartan-Garner comment - should read "knocked it out of the park every week. The one time I don't proofread.......

Janet Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 09:15 PM EST

I would apply your "Titanic" comment about the "potent chemistry" between the stars being a bigger factor than just DiCaprio to "Alias" (listed in the Top 25 Sexiest TV DVDS): it was the sweet hotness (or the hot sweetness?) of the Syd-Vaughn couple and the fantastic chemistry of Vartan and Garner that knocked it out of the part for that show week after week.

Amy Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 01:51 AM EST

I read all the comments and could not believe that no one put in "Meet Joe Black". As soon as I read the title of the article I thought of "The Piano" and "Meet Joe Black". Neither of the made your list.

Kathy Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 05:46 PM EST

Cannot believe "The Big Easy" didn't make your list!!!!!! Dennis making Ellen purr... oh yeah!!!

Winter Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

Well, it figures that the same person who thought Clooney and J. Lo have ANY chemistry, would leave out movies like "Last Tango in Paris".
This list is so embarrassing, it should be forgotten as soon as possible.

Bonnie Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

I'm so glad you put "Out of Sight" first. I've always maintained that Soderbergh worked magic with that movie. I also looked hopefully for a reference to the lemonade making scene in "Revenge," with Kevin Costner. I remember my date didn't notice a thing while we were watching it, and I thought it might be just me. But at the end, there was a collective gasp in the theater. No, it was him!

ductapecrzyglu Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

If "Brokeback Mountian" had been about a hetro couple who abandened their spouses and children to go play "hide the salami" on a mountian It would never have sold even 100,000 tickets. Homosexual activism does not A great movie make. Now having said that, Thank you for the article I just took 5 selections from the list and added them to My Netflix Que. How you were able leave out "The Hot Spot" with Don Johnson, Jennifer Connelly and Virginia Madison I will never Know.

Graham Maio Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 11:17 AM EST

I loved this list but I was suprised by the omission of Spike Lee's Jungle Fever. That opening sex scene with Wesley Snipes and Lonette McKee is so sweaty, hot and sexy. Plus the first sexual encounter between Snipes and the ever so sexy Annabella Sciorra is pleasing as well

Laura G. Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 07:41 PM EST

How could you miss Jon Voight's character showing Jane Fonda's character how a man in a wheelchair can still give a woman complete sexual pleasure in "Coming Home"? I think it was one of the hottest, most sensual love-sex scenes ever!

Rogerscorpion Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:10 AM EST

I DO have to agree. Even your justifications for '300' being on this list are lame.

rogerscorpion Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 07:58 AM EST

How could you make Out of Sight #1, & not include Fatal Attraction? The Kitchen sink scene was so erotic. I LIKED Out of Sight, but never considered it particularly sexy.
True about Last Tango in Paris. I've never looked @ a stick of butter the same. I agree about Brokeback Mountain.
I agree about the chess scene, in the original Thomas Crown Affair. Also about Angel Heart & the Big Easy. The scene where Quaid seduces Ellen Barkin smoked!
As far as best femme fatale, when I saw Linda Fiorentino, in The Last Seduction, I said 'Sharon who?'. She was cinema's best manipulative b-word. She was e-v-i-l.

Casey Jack Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:34 AM EST

How do you leave out Great Expectations? It seems as though you guys mixed up your thought processes. You omit one of the sexiest movies in history and then throw in King Kong? Really? Really! The water fountain scene alone is enough to make top ten.

Kelly C Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 10:24 PM EST

How could you leave out "The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea"? Sara Miles and Kris Kristofferson melted the screen through almost the entire movie!
Or "Damage" ??? Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche, their first love scene left us all out of breath!

Lee Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

How about "Two Moon Junction" When he sets up the camcorder so they can watch themselves - HOT!

Bill Spencer Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

Although Woody Harrelson has never been known as a romantic lead, his hotel bedroom scene in Palmetto was definitely a scorcher.

Lea Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 12:52 PM EST

I love this list of sexy moments in movies but may I add - 1) Rhett Butler carrying Scarlett up the stairs in her red robe and the look on her face the morning after; 2) Robert Redford washing Meryl Streep's hair in "Out of Africa"; 3) Barbara Streisand putting her hand up to move a strand of hair off Robert Redford's face in the scene in front of the Plaza Hotel at the end of "The Way We Were." And last but not least, the last scene between Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof."

Annie Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 10:04 AM EST

I was surprised to find that "Don Juan de Marco" was omitted from the list! Especially the scene in which a young "Don Juan" watches the woman in her silk nightgown through a window and declares, "At that moment, I knew how a woman must be touched". Oh yeah. Not a movie to be watched in mixed company - unless you want the company to, you know, mix.
Another omission - the unbelievable sexy scene from "The Piano" in which Harvey Kietel, beneat the piano, finds a hole in Holly Hunter's stocking, and gently traces the outside of the hole with his finger - around and around - 'nuff said there!

JLG Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:30 AM EST

OMG," You left out the best "The Big Easy" and Something about last night" as well as the hottness of Salma Hayak and Antonio Bandaras in Desperado!

Eleanora Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:15 AM EST

How could you forget the "Big Easy"? The scene where Dennis Quaid seduces a frigid Ellen Barken, where his hand is up here skirt but you see nothing is the all time turn on scene. All my girlfriends would agree!!

wendi Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 11:09 PM EST

You forgot "The Dreamers". Eva Green losing her virginity on the kitchen floor? 3 erotically charged teenagers left alone in the house for weeks on end?
And speaking of French menage a trois, what about "Jules and Jim"?

Elphaba Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

The Hunger. Catherine Deneuve as a vampire who seduces Susan Sarandon so subtly that Sarandon's character, Sarah asks, "Are you making a pass at me, Mrs. Blaylock?" "Miriam. Not that I'm aware of." And then Sarah clumsily spills her wine on herself and has to peel off her top in front of Miriam. Next thing you know they are in the bedroom. Not explicit, but sensual and sexy as hell.

Juli Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 08:02 PM EST

Hello..what about Brokeback Mountain?

Jan Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 07:56 PM EST

I agreed with many of your choices, but some were just too contrived. How about "Against All Odds" with Jeff Bridges, Rachael Ward and steamy hot Mayan ruins. And be still my heart Dennis Quaid in "The Big Easy"....

will carver Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

How could you omit From Here to Eternity? Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr on the beach. Did you forget Sea Of Love, Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin. And throw in History Of Violence, Maria Bello and Viggo Mortensen. That cheer leader outfit?

MJ Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

I blew it; that should have been a period at the end of my last post instead of a question mark.

But on the subject of sexy scenes: What about the scene is "Witness" when during a night crackling with heat lightning, Harrison Ford spots Kelly McGillis give herself an upper-body sponge bath? Or the sexually loaded dinner scene in "Tom Jones"? Or, for that matter, the Jennifer-Beals-eating-lobster-while-teasing-Nichael-Nouri-under-the-table-with-her-foot scene in "Flashdance"?

MJ Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

How in the name of God could you have left out "Coming Home"? The sex scene between Jane Fonda and Jon Voight took my breath away. It almost made me feel as if I were spying on the characters?

Carol Standeven Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

How could you have omitted the movie "Maytime", starring Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, as one of the 50 sexiest movies ever made? There is nothing sexier on film than the Czaritza scene (the last big musical love scene) in "Maytime", where you can barely breathe because the sexual tension is so overwhelming. The scene in which Nelson sings, "Will You Remember" (sweetheart, sweetheart, sweetheart, will you love me ever....) to Jeanette is also breathtaking and unforgettable.

Ryan Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 09:18 AM EST

"Wild Things".....Can't believe it's not mentioned in the list and no one else had mentioned this. How could you forget about the infamous car washing scene featuring Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.

barbara westfall Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 06:48 AM EST

Sexy? William Holden and Kim Novak dancing to the theme of PICNIC! Wow!

Robert Welch Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:04 PM EST

What about 'From Here to Eternity.' The scene on the beach between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr is historic 'Against All Odds' could not imitate the glory of that scene.
'An affair to Remember' when Cary Grant takes Deborak Kerr in his arms after finding out she is a pairepalegic more than 'Notorious.' "Heres looking at you kid" from 'Cesablabca.' "Well always have the stars" being said by Betty Davis at the end of 'Now Voyager.' The sex scene in 'Cold Mountain' is the most beautiful and tasteful of sex scenes I have seen to this day. Sigourney Weaver get undressed and and redressd in 'Alien.'

Pauline W. Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

I have two sexy words for you..... "ROB ROY". The amazingly sexy love scenes between Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange can never be missed on a list like this. Go ahead watch again, you'll see!!!

Pauline W. Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

Did I miss it or did YOU completely miss it? Where on this list is "Wild Orchids"? The entire movie reeks sexy! IE; the scene when Claudia brings the boy from the beach up to the apartment with her & Emily. Oh, and what about "P.S. I LOVE" when were introduced to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character. Another is "Closer", which is also soaked in sexiness !!!

Leeds Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

Nice of you try to give tribute to the early and black and white movies, but you missed the boat with HIS GIRL FRIDAY. Sure repartee can be sexy; but if you really are going to include only one from this time period, it has to be THE LADY EVE. The repartee is Preston Sturgess, the heavy breathing is Henry Fonda on the floor and Barbara Stanwyck on the chaise driving him crazy. As Roger Ebert points out "the single scene in all of romantic comedy that was sexiest and funniest both at the same time....

And speaking of sidebars--Stanwyck deserves one. Look at her career: NIGHT NURSE, BABY FACE, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, BALL OF FIRE, THE THORN BIRDS. For a skinny lady who seldom looked beautiful, she had a career of using sex to make men do as she wanted.

When you really get to understand Stanwyck's career, you really start to understand movies.

scoobydoo Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 06:26 PM EST

How could you forget 'The Thomas Crown Affair' with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo???? That sexy dance they do together is as erotic as any other scene in the movie. Disappointing you missed that movie.

J. Gentile-Jackson Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:53 AM EST

How could you leave out An Officer and a Gentlemen when Richard Gere and Debra Winger were making love on the bed. By far, that is one of the most sexiest scenes I have ever scene. I was waiting for it to be mentioned when I was reading Entertainment Weekly.

Mary Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 07:28 AM EST

Pride & prejudice. As kiera knightly's Elizabeth watches darcy stride toward her in the early morning light, it took my breath away.

Anne Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 06:47 AM EST

Man, I can't believe I don't see more comments here! Great list, but a few were left off of it. The Mask of Zorro (Catherine Z-J with Antonio B.), The Thomas Crown Affair (Rene Russo, Pierce Brosnan), and Dangerous Liaisons (not the only with the little kids- the one with John Malcovich- mrowwwww!)

Sergio Zurita Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 02:50 AM EST

I've got four words for you: LAST TANGO IN PARIS. And how about "Lust, Caution", "The Hunger", "Eye of the Needle", "Night Porter" and "The Graduate"? Instead, you go with "Dirty Dancing". Why not "Footloose" while you are at it? And "300" makes the list??? Really? No room for "A Streetcar Named Desire", but the friggin' "300" is in there? And also, no "Belle de Jour" but "Little Children"? Really, this time you really blew it, and not in a sexy way at all. I'm sorry, but your list is ridiculous.

Sergio Zurita, Mexico City, Mexico

P.S. Hey, you forgot Space Jam!

Robert Still Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 01:46 AM EST

Two big misses: The original Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway specifically the chess game even more so Dunaway caressing McQueen's bishop just before she moves it.
AND Tom Jones with Albert Finney and Joyce Redman eating in particular chewing at chicken drumsticks then swallowing oysters while learing at each other.

Sean Tubridy Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 08:23 PM EST

Missing from the "One Scene Wonders" section, am I alone in thinking that the rollercoaster scene from Fear (1996) with Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon is one of the most erotic scenes in modern cinema?

Mary Anne Lowe Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 06:07 PM EST

As for the best and sexiest ever for TV the seduction scene in Napoleon and Josephine, A Love Story lives in your mind forever. Thanks to the fabulous Armand Assante.

Barbara Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 05:52 PM EST

Leaving "OUT OF AFRICA" off your list simply nullifies your entire conceit... the scene where Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are making love and he says, "Don't move." and she responds, "But I want to move..." is the single most sexy moment on film.

Mary Anne Lowe Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 05:36 PM EST

The Mambo Kings is THE sexiest movie with many moments. The end where Ceasar looks at Delores and she a him (in closeups) to get him to sing the song is the best.

Morroca Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

Among the count of the "sexiest movies ever" MAYTIME the 1937 hit starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy is worth looking into as an example that love making with a song can be supremely sexy. In MAYTIME there's a double dose of it. In the "Czaritza" scene Petroff(Nelson) has been sentenced to death tragically by the Czarina herself(Jeanette). In close embrace they sing their farewells with formidable passion in the knowledge that their love will now remain unfulfilled forevermore. Happening within the opera, another scene is being played out by Paul(Nelson) and Marcia(Jeanette)After a seven-year self-imposed separation, fate had thrown the singers back into each other's arms. Now their pain of separation gives way to unbridled love not only visually and sensually expressed but secretly spoken as their song ends. But as in TITANIC death leaves just one of thrm behind this time with nothing to hold but the echo of "their" song.

Steph Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 03:13 PM EST

How did you miss GILDA? Rita Hayworth, black strapless dress, black opera gloves, doing a near strip tease in a 1940s Art Deco night club with Glen Ford as the leading man - at the very least - this should have made your cut for sexiest scene. Put the Blame on EW for missing this classic.

Rosemary Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 02:46 PM EST

Am I worked up over a movie you missed? I am absolutely flabbergasted! I agree with two other comments... the seduction scene in "The Big Easy" and the Jack and Ennis reconnection in "Brokeback Mountain" should have been in the top ten!

Scott Nickell Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 11:28 AM EST

If you ask me, the single sexiest scene ever put on film is in "It's A Wonderful Life". I realize this is a minority opinion.

But the bit where Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed are forced to share a telephone receiver, trying desperately *not* to acknowledge their feelings for each other... the *longing* is just tangible.

The Rogue Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 04:12 AM EST

Many good ones mentioned here....but I believe the following need to be added:

"Chocolat" (Juliette Binoche purring "I know which one's your favorite")

"Don Juan Demarco" (The opening scene when Johhny Depp, dressed as Don Juan, kisses a woman's hand as he explains how the sensations would translate to her legs)

"Henry & June" (Most of the movie)

"The Hunger" (Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon have themselves some vampire fun)

"Dangerous Liasons" (All of it)

"Sirens" (When the minister's wife finds herself alone with a blind man who "reads" her body like Braille)

"Damage" (Many exquisite scenes with Jeremy Irons and, again, Juliette Binoche)

Vash Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 03:22 AM EST

I too think that Brokeback mountain should have been on this list; also The Piano and A history of violence.

Vash Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 03:15 AM EST

How did you miss the greatest love story of all times? Gone with the wind should have been on this list.

Vash Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 03:13 AM EST

You left out a couple of movies that deserve mention.

1.Pretty woman- very romantic and sexy. Sexiest scene: Richard Gere is playing piano late into the night and Julia Roberts approaches him. The rest is left to your imagination, as we just hear some notes.

2.Bugsy- Warren Beatty and Annette Bening have great Chemistry. Sexy scene: Dinner scene where Bening's character (Virginia) cooks Shrimp scampie, they have an argument and she throws an ash tray at Beatty's character (Ben). Later they both fall to the floor....

Sharon Honeycutt Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 10:24 PM EST

I had one movie in mind as soon as I saw the title of the article, KNOWING it would be there. It wasn't - not even in the "One Scene Wonders" sidebar. How could you leave off BRAVEHEART? When William (Mel Gibson) and Murron (Catherine McCormack) consummate their marriage, it is one of the most erotic, sexy scenes in movie history. Mel Gibson with long hair, bare chested, lit subtly from above, tracing his fingers down McCormack's back, their breath caught in the cold air between them....Amazing!! Should have made the list.

Monique Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 10:11 PM EST

I loved your very bold choice for no 1. It was unexpected, but I definitely approve!

I would have to add White Palace, with Susan Sarandon and James Spader. The electricity between those two, those hot sex scenes that become love and the end with that wonderful kiss. A fabulous unsung very sexy movie.

sizzlemaker Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

missing TV shows: Beverly Hills, 90210 (anything with Luke Perry and Tiffani Amber Theissen, when David and Donna finally get it on, etc.) and Sex & the City

Lauren Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

How do you publish a list of The 50 Sexiest Movies Ever, and NOT include Bernardo Bertolucci's full-frontal-nudity-fest, "The Dreamers"? Loss of viginity, voyeuristic masturbation, hints of incest, future Bond Girl Eva Green... plus some top-notch lessons in cinematic history. Get with the program, EW!

diane Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

Excuse me, everyone, but not to have Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore in "End of the Affair" and Jane Fonda and John Voigt in "Coming Home" included in your list simply means you didn't really do your (sexy) homework!

Marie Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

How could you overlook the sexiest of all of Brad Pitts movies - Legends of the Fall - I fell big time for Brad. And what about Johnny Depp in Chocolat? He melted my Marshmellows!

Sharon Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Tequila Sunrise: Mel Gibson & Michelle Pfeiffer hot tub.....
L.A. Confidential: Russell Crowe... need I say more?
Closer: Clive Owen & Jude Law cyber chat..... :)

wendy Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

You forgot "A Walk in the Clouds" with Keanu Reeves. That movie always gets me feeling sexy. Also, I thought "How Stella got her Groove Back" should have been rated higher.

Cecilia Rodriguez Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 02:43 PM EST

How could you leave out "Naughty Marietta" with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy? The "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life" number is so emotionally charged; when the tears well up in Jeanette's eyes they well up in mine as well.

I'd add to the list 2 indies: "The Dreamers" (2003, ıertolucci), with Eva Green and Louis Garrel as lusty and incestuous brother and sister seducing American student Michael Pitt over the course of several weeks in their Paris apartment (even if the homoerotic tension that's clear in the book is almost lost), and "The Bubble", (2006, Eytan Fox) about modern Tel Aviv life for Israelis and Arabs, men and women, gays and straights - which has an incredibly tender and sexy scene on a makeshift rooftop bed. I'd also replace the sexually tepid "Shakespeare in Love" with the remake "Thomas Crown Affair", for the sexy scenes between ırosnan and Russo as for being one of a handful of movies featuring a woman over 35 who's sexually adventurous without being a psycho, desperate, or a victim.

Wild Things?

I really expected 'Damage' (Jeremy Irons, Juliette Binoche) to be on your list.

The greatest love scene of all time: Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed share a phone in "It's a Wonderful
Life". He smells her hair and kisses her all over her face.

"Demon Seed"? One of the writers slipped their hentai obsession into the list. I was, as Proteus would understand, "LMAO".

How could any list of most sexy movies have missed "The Dreamers," Bertolucci's exmination of youthful sexual exploration against a background of the 1968 student riots in Paris? EW also missed the wondrous Theresa Russell in "Whore," a gritty view of prostitution much more realistic than the romanticized view of "Pretty Woman." Other Theresa Russell sexy parts that ought to be listed are in "The Proposition" (1997,don't confuse with two other movies of the same title) where her scenes with Patric Bergin mirror those of Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland in "Don't look Now" in a sort of homage to Russell's then husband, Nicholas Roeg. Roeg directed her in other movies which ought to be listed: "Bad Timing" and "Eureka!" that have the sort of scenes that prompted Roger Ebert to say that Theresa Russell is the actress you call on when the part requires great talent combined with great courage.
You also missed "Boogie Nights" and "Tom Jones" which also deserve to be on the list.

You missed Richard Gere's 1983 movie "breathless"in your 50 sexyiest movies. His nude shower scene was absolutely fabulous.

You should have included "Wild At Heart"! Remember that really hot verbal sex btwn Willem Dafoe and Laura Dern?

What about the "Jeep" scene in the film "Revenge" with Kevin Costner and Madeline Stowe. Or what about the pool scene with Richard Gere and Valerie Kaprisky in the film "Breathless". I agree with another reader, 50 is not a big enough number to list them all.

I read the list backwards and forwards because I was sure I must have missed your ranking of The Big Easy? How could that movie NOT be on this list? Most of the men on it couldn't hold a candle to Dennis Quaid's effortless charm and sexy Cajun drawl. Still makes me weak in the knees thinking about it ... oh, to be Ellen Barkin.

While I agree with several of your selections ("Out of Sight", "The Notebook", "Bull Durham" and "Before Sunset", I believe you completely missed the mark when you chose not one but three Daniel Day-Lewis movies, plus a giant ape movie in lieu of some of the great ones.

"Some Kind of Wonderful"--wow moment when Mary Stuart Masterson teaches Eric Stoltz how to kiss.
"Gone With the Wind"--the image of Rhett carrying Scarlet up those stairs is forever etched on our minds.
And if every woman didn't fall for Tom Cruise during the train scene in "Risky Business", then they fell for him in "Top Gun"--we all felt the sexual tension build-up right along with Kelly McGillis, and applauded her chasing him down in her car!
And lastly, "Brokeback Mountain" was by far the sexiest homoerotic movie to date and it was a disappointment to see this extraordinary film omitted.

You left out Zeffereli's Romeo and Juliet. The movie is seething with adolescent hormones and the first kiss between them is hands down the sexiest kiss ever.
