Mr. Jay and Miss J get a 'Top Model' spinoff. Discuss.

Antmthejays_l According to The Hollywood Reporter, America's Next Top Model's Jay Manuel and J. Alexander will shoot a pilot for The CW called Operation Fabulous: They will "travel the country giving women makeovers. In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them Top Model-style overhauls — how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community."

My head is spinning. "With the support of family, friends and their community" sounds a little too earnest for the Jays, doesn't it? I buy that Tim Gunn and Carson Kressley care about my confidence — these two, not so much. But don't get me wrong: While I would never go on this show, I'm totally watching it. Just think of all the 20-year-olds squealing at the sight of Alpha and Beta (and their confused family, friends, and communities), of the skits we'll be seeing (bring. back. Prince. Couture!), of the title sequence (fatigues would be too obvious, so I predict they'll go with sleek Matrix-esque ensembles, in white).

If you were helping Alpha and Beta develop their show, what advice would you give them?

i'm suprised tyra-bot allowed this show to even happen. i don't see a role for her anywhere in this show!

Yuck.

Jeffrey Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

I have a hard time believing that anyone on PR is really an industry expert or advisor and not just a bizarro friend of Tyra Banks'. I mean, come on, Benny Ninja, the Aswirl Twins, Miss J---do they really advise people at the top of the modeling industry???

Nix Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 09:29 AM EST

But they're so bad at it. Why would anyone listen to them?

famjr Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 06:34 AM EST

Before either of the "J'S" give anyone else advice or a makeover...they should take a gander in the mirror...no self respecting gay man..of which I am one, wants to look like a joke. If you want to be called "miss" then have the sex change. It's queens like that that bring prejudice and scorn to all of us (gays). Don't they realized they are being treated like jokes??? Is 15 minutes of fame worth that?

siis Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 07:03 PM EST

Jay Manuel has no business telling people how to dress when he styles himself like Max Headroom. Not every gay man is a walking style encyclopedia, and the average woman doesn't need to look like a glamour queen. Even Clinton from What Not To Wear was giving cooking advice on Tyra's talk show recently! Just because you don't use 5 guys doesn't mean you're not ripping off the tired Queer Eye formula.

What advice do I have for them? Miss Jay outlasted her usefulness long ago. She's utterly useless, obnoxious, and useless. Mr. Jay, I like. Mr. Jay could take over for Clinton on What Not to Wear...

peaches Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 04:36 PM EST

I'll pass on watching 60 minutes of the J-Holes dispensing fashion advice, thank you very much. The last thing the world needs is Miss Cellie and the Gaytrix telling them how to dress.

Raven_Moon Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

I don't think I'll be watching. Honestly, when watching ANTM I always believed the less Miss J I have to listen to, the better.

Vicky Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

What Not to Wear. Enough said.

Megan Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 02:59 PM EST

A-nnoying!

Dennis N. Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

I feel hypocritical saying this, seeing as I positively binge on all things ANTM, but I'm over the makeover shows that try to masquerade as a Ty Pennington-esque charity and tear-fest. What makes these two Tyra sidekicks great is their insensitivity. The Js should only make girls weep as their obnoxious self-confidence is being ripped to shreds, not while their family and friends see the "diva" inside them all. Keep it superficial!

Ceballos Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 02:23 PM EST

Yeah, I agree with Zet.

I like them fine on "Top Model" (especially since Mr. Jay has stepped up his "acting" skills on "Top Model" this cycle), but I don't know if I want to watch them for an entire hour or even an entire half hour. I also don't really see them doing the earnest, sentimental thing (and I'm not sure if I want to see that).

I might check it out, but I don't know too many people that tune in to "Top Model" for these two, so I'm not sure how well it'll do.

Zet Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 02:02 PM EST

A little of the Js goes a long way. Kind of like David Spade. I enjoy the snark, but 30/60 minutes of it? Miss J isn't quite pretty enough to pull off the diva-hillbilly routine for an entire show. Heck, not even Britney is pretty enough for that.

joze Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 01:54 PM EST

The should call it J
