The Must List: My Bloody Valentine is on mine. What's on yours?

Mybloodyvalentine_l In the early '90s, when I first heard UK's My Bloody Valentine, fronted by the enigmatic, retiring Kevin Shields, I was captivated by the band's use of rolling waves of feedback, and how they paired sheets of white noise with spine-tingling, ethereal melody. After 16 years of near silence and zero live appearances, MBV is touring Europe and the States once again (with just one stop in Toronto -- sorry, Canada). This past weekend, they blew away 3,000 awestruck fans (including one EW.com editor) at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Monticello, New York, with their full-body-pummeling noise. Their publicist later told me that one of the band's conditions for playing the festival was no sound limitations -- and thus the show (purportedly) registered 128 decibels on the venue's soundboard, which is not unlike being in the wake of a jet plane as it is taking off. (Concerned parents, please note that free earplugs come with the price of admission.)

For those who missed their two other New York City shows this week, My Bloody Valentine will be playing Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles in the coming weeks. Or, be sure to check out/revisit their seminal document of the shoegaze movement, 1991's Loveless -- which ranked 86th on EW's best indie albums of the past 15 years -- and the video for my favorite song "Soon" (below), then keep your ears peeled for news on Shields' upcoming album and new mixes of old MBV material, due to drop...well, let's just say we hope it's not another 16 years.

Ok so I thought I would come up with something totally original here and say [title of show]. Hahaha. SERIOUSLY THOUGH!!! This is the most original show Broadway has ever seen and it hasn't even really been given the opportunity to grow. It should at least be given an extension. Everyone should check it out while they can. Buy the soundtrack, watch the videos on youtube, tell a few friends. It's life changing.

It it way too good a show to close, but unless people make an effort to support it and show Broadway that it means something, it'll close on October 12th.

It's really simple to save an amazing show that really deserves to stick around for a lot longer than a few months.

Step 1: Buy a ticket.
Step 2: Go see it.
Step 3: Tell everyone how awesome it is and convince them to go see it.

[Title of Show] on Broadway is on my immediate Must List. I've been following the show since it was Off-Broadway and I was too busy/poor to see it. Like the little engine that could (if that engine wanted to get on the 'Great White Way'), it landed on Broadway. Unfortunately, its set to close Oct 12th.

Tina Fey is on my Must List, because she is multi-talented, a mom, funny and humble (and also, since Sunday, the only person who dares to be funny when Ricky Gervais is in the same room). I think she is a woman every little girl can look up to and that's definately something that is desperately needed.
Neil Patrick Harris is also a Must. Although he lost the Emmy on Sunday, he shouldn't bother that much. After all, "How I met your Mother" is back and with that Barney Stinson. Well I guess that means that it's time to suit up, check out once more the tragic "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" and re-discover "Doogie Houser", just to realize that Harris was pretty cool all along.

When it comes to music my favorite this week is Peter Fox, whose video for his second single debuted today and tommorrow is the release of his album. For all those of you, who have never heard about him: he is the one that was praised by Kanye West in his blog with the words "This sh*t is dope!!!". 'Nuff said.

My Must List is topped by a man named Ricky Gervais. His bit at the Emmys was by far the funniest thing that happened on the show. On top of that, he is brilliant in Ghost Town and had me laughing in hysterics both times I saw the movie. I want more Ricky Gervais!!!
