After watching Saturday Night Live last night, I realized that Cook and his band are mostly a bar quality band. Very boring performance, lots of screaming, and the band was too loud for his voice. Declaration is just another version of Light On ... the same old thing. They looked like a bunch of goof balls. They'll attract a fan base but this won't be the super stardom that was predicted for Cook ... I'm pretty sure about that! Disappointing indeed.

Wow. This is really pathetic. Obviously biased, and supporting Cook while, once again, trying to demean little Archuleta. It's really sad.

If you want to compare the two, then look at the facts. Cook's single is advertised EVERYWHERE. Just random wandering through the internet I see an ad for Light On at least 3 times a day. How often do I see Archuleta ads? Maybe once a WEEK but usually not even that. Even with this ridiculous amount of advertising difference, Light On has bombed and Crush is indeed crushing the charts. After quite a while of being available Crush is still very high on the charts while Light On has faded out rather quickly. If you are going to post something like this, at least put a LITTLE bit of fact into it, rather than purely biased opinion.

Well I agree the 2 ladies are idots. This video was simple that a plug for David Cook and a negative for David Archuleta. But being a hugh Archie fan I agree they sure have not been following the popularity meters lately. I like David Cook also and I know that all of this bashing of the 2 David and trying to make this into a competition between them again is wrong. They are on their own now and very good friends these are 2 different music genres and we can support them both. The two girls should feel unsafe about their job now a month after the video was made. Light on is Light off now. The only reason the song is on Itunes is Cook's fans pre-ordering his album, which adds the single purchase for Light on. So, each fan purchased at least two Light on. Right before RCA started preordering strategy desperately, Light on was 96 out of 100 on Itunes. People are not stupid. They wouldn't buy if music is not good. Obviously, general audience has better taste than the two girls. CRUSH is crushing Light on.

I just want to make a comment, and this was the only place I could do it. But, I got a nasty email similar to this article about Cook's "victory" and his album. Ok, his single tanked on iTunes. RCA is now selling his whole album to get people to buy the single. RCA is putting out lame ads stating that Cook's album will prove to us(the fans) that America chose the right idol. That is bull crap. We know who won, and we certainly know whose doing better on the charts. Archuleta barely needs any crappy promotion that Cook has and Crush is staying steady on the charts. I'm not saying Cooks a failure, because I by no means mean that. But RCA Records needs to chill and get over May 21st. I agree about the 12 million votes not really being relevant here. Since Cook fans are known to have special cheating programs for online polls, etc. I would put nothing past them. Many are quite dishonest people. So far, Light On is not a blockbuster as was touted by his fans (or not #1 like Crush), and I sort of expected that outcome. Here's the deal...it's not about David vs. David, that's so 6 months ago, now they are totally on there own. Based on the song I heard from Cook, I was disappointed. He's trying way to hard to be as commercial and radio friendly as possible. It's not working, it needs to be edgy and more original for a rocker. He sounds fine, but it's boring. Archuleta, on the other hand, found a song that really worked for him. It was the perfect fit and that made all the difference in the world. I'm not sure why they dissed him in the commentary, I guess it's easier than having to admit they were wrong. He was totally in the groove and everything sounded effortless, so I couldn't help but like it more. Truth be told, One David found himself, the other David seems a bit lost. Archie seems like a totally different performer with this upbeat material. He's having fun and it's hard not to like it. Not sure about their full albums, But Archie's single is definitely a winner.

I'm a huge David Archuleta fan but I Heart them both and think they're both great. I love David Cook's voice, his music and genre and I think he's going to gain kudos for what he'll achieve musically. He'll be a respected and hugely decent commercial success. However, I think David Archuleta is going to have an edge on Cook a little in this because he seems, at least to me, like a musical savant - he has a certain "je ne sais pas", if you will - and alot of people are going to lose their s@*t when he lets himself go/grow musically. IMO.
Of course, I can't predict the David's musical future and apparently these people can't report on the David's musical future, history or current status. But I'm thinking that while we, the fans, are listening to their albums we could also, maybe, think back to this blog tidbit and say they know not what they report about. Or say it right now.

David Archuleta is new, fresh, and has obviously got a sucessful first single. To those who keep yelling he's gay, he is a typical LDS teen. They are encouraged not to focus on a serious relationship until after their mission so they usually go at 19 for 2 years. I have six children all of which did not seriously date until they were out of high school and a couple were done with college. Yes they had friends, went to social actities with friends. I am not from Utah but find the general population of teens raised in the lds church, polite, nice, and focused on school and with a goal for life. Of course this is very generalized and plenty of people could dispute this with examples. In general they seem to good kids I think the LDS church is good for them. Guess what you are wrong I am not LDS. Just my observation, I moved here from the southeast 6 years ago.

I think both Davids are very talented, but my personal preference is David Archuleta because I just like his type of songs. As far as their sexual orientation, well, that's their business. I would not want to label anyone because I always remember that old saying, "You can't tell a book by its cover"! Just because you're kind of young and naive (or geeky) sure doesn't mean you're gay.

First, I would like to say I think both will be very successful for a long time, as already evidenced by the charts. I don't believe either of them were ever truly competing against each other, nor are they now. There is a whole world of other artists out there trying to sell singles and CDs, and they are just two of many, and in different genres, at that. They are both competing against established artists now, although I think both are more about the art and less about the sales.

I am a Cook fan, but take exception to Archie not being treated with respect. He is exceedingly talented as well, and I know he'll do great. They both want each other to succeed, and they will both get their wish. It's time to end the comparisons and move on. That includes the Daughtry comparisons. The fact they were both on AI is incidental. It's all about the music now.

I totally agree that Archie's sexuality has no bearing on his music. But the illiterate responses to Daisy's comment and mine illustrate one of the underlying issues. We were attacked for being "immoral." So if Archie came out as gay, would those people who attacked us still love him, even if he's "immoral"? Still respect him for his talent and his music, which is what they claim to do? Of course not! Clay Aiken's fans actually FILED LAWSUITS against him to get their money back on CD purchases because their fantasies were destroyed. And Archie knows this. Because of these idiots who claim to love him for his music, but really love him as a fantasy object- a "good boy" they can dream about bringing home to mom- he's trapped. But all his talk of "respecting" girls is just a transparent cover. Most gay guys who were afraid of coming out dated "good girls" in high school, too- we knew we'd be safe and our failure to show any physical or sexual interest would be seen as being "moral."

Ok there's one minute i'm not going to get back - what was the point? There was more Daughtry discussion than Cook and Archuleta combined ...
Anyway - both need to please their A.I. fans but also need to generate new fans based on their music - that is what will sustain/boost their carreers.
I think both have started off with good debut singles - and will be competing with each other based on their fans from the show - but will probably need that additional audience to show which ones music is going to be more successful.
I for one, wish them both the best, both are exciting new talents and though i'm partial to the shorter one, I like them both (both were fantastic during the Idol tour concert!)

"Crush" is not a better song than "Light On". It is a catchy but substanceless pop tune.

However, that is not a slam on Archuleta because he didn't write it. Neither David wrote their song in fact, and both did great with what they had to work with.

However, I am surprised that not only reviewers but also many Cook fans, as evidenced in this thread, are comparing "Light On" to the work of the Daughtrys and Nickelbacks (etc.) of the world. It's such lazy analysis. Those bands' songs have a completely "modern" sound, whereas "Light On" has clear influences from classic and 80s rock. If people can't pick up on that the first time they hear it, then I don't know what song they are listening to.

"Light On" also has a more sophisticated structure than most power ballads on the radio. In fact, when I heard it I wasn't sure, at first, how well it was going to do because it's not like every other power ballad out there. But, from everything I'm hearing, non-Idol fans are loving it.

I am a Huge fan of David Archuleta and I was so devastated for months when he didnot win. I tell you, my anger towards the winner was so bad and I used to say so many bad things about him.
After watching this two in concert, I have changed my view on David Cook. Yes, This two are so great in thier own genre that the AI should have two AI winner instead of one. For those of you who didnot able to see the tour, let me tell you, This top 10, and the top two, are the best ever. I loved every last one of them! But my favorite will always be Archuleta!

Regarding the "gay issue" (which I don't think there is one), I think that only one or two people brought it up, and then a ton of people responded to it.
