What are your favorite sci-fi TV series?

Sep 9, 2008, 01:42 PM | by Gary Susman

Categories: Sci-Fi, Television, Who Else Remembers This?

Thirdrockcast_l If you've had a chance to click through our countdown of the 20 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows, you'll notice a dearth of comedies. Granted, there's not much in science fiction that's as funny (intentionally, at least) as No. 17, but that doesn't mean sci-fi is good only when it's serious. The early-'80s BBC series based on Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy saga is not only one of the funniest sci-fi shows ever made, but also honors the genre it's parodying with a full complement of speculative thought, imaginative metaphysics, and futuristic dread and wonder. On his side of the pond, comic sci-fi TV is usually the basis for fish-out-of-water jokes -- see 3rd Rock from the Sun (pictured), Alf, or Mork and Mindy -- but that still performs a quintessential sci-fi task: making us see our own world through an alternative point of view. Right now, I'm happy to see that Quark is finally going to be on DVD; I have fond memories of this short-lived 1978 sci-fi spoof, which starred Richard Benjamin as the captain of an interstellar garbage scow.

I'm guessing you have your own favorite sci-fi series that didn't make our list either. (The Time Tunnel? Kolchak: The Night Stalker?) Give your faves a shout-out below.

as a 40ish si fi fan to many good tv programs not in there how could star gate sg1, space 1999,buck rodgers and farscape not be there also babalyon 5 should be higher number one for me

Don Wed, May 27, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST

What was the name of that sci fi show where there was a dwarf that was on a special task force that was under the city and they caught monsters. A guy a GIRL and a dwarf that got like fairies and wierd creatures to give him info on what monsters were up to in the city? Please email me the answer. thanks. romansfour@comcast.net

MARIO CANALES Sun, May 10, 2009 at 06:27 PM EST

Seems that we can not limit to 20 the top sci-fi series of all times. The top list must be in accordance with a FINAL list that must include at least:
ROSWELL, FARSCAPE, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, INVADERS(60'S), STARGATE SG-1 AND ATLANTIS, LOST IN SPACE, ST:DS9, VOYAGER AND ENTERPRISE, TIME TUNNEL, EUREKA, ANDROMEDA, INVASION and many more.
So I will expect a new revision to the top list promptly, in order to have a more comprehensive and inclusive list.

How does "Lost" qualify as SF?? It doesn't!! How does BG not rate?? It should!! How does BG RI rate??? What a piece of crap!! The Jetsons?? A truly inspired choice!!!

second farscapelover!! WTH!?!?! Also, no Stargate SGA?!?! second: you bastards!

farscapelover Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 06:12 AM EST

YOU BASTARDS! LIST IS WITHOUT FARSCAPE!

achi Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 04:12 AM EST

Stargate is the best

Angela Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

How about Blood Ties? It's a story that includes a vampire (the 480 year old illegitimate son of Henry VIII) and a PI investigating paranormal cases. And it's hilarious. It combines Angel with West Wing-esque witty banter and quips. I think it's hilarious! Too bad Lifetime canceled it- but I'm still holding out hopes that some other network will be smart enough to pick it up now that vampires are all the rage again.

Malandar Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 07:27 PM EST

Frak WAS in the original run series of Battlestar Galactica as was the lesser known and now forgotten Feltercarb. So as the other guy said frak was not "stolen" from Farscape.

I also agree that Lost is NOT sci-fi unless there aliens or something like that that caused the crash or their survival or whatever I don't know that show never appealed to me really.

Neil Parks, Beachwood Ohio Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Your list is ridiculous.

"Twilight Zone" was a terrific show, I agree. But it was far more fantasy than sci-fi--there is a difference.

"The Jetsons"? Puh-leeze! That isn't even one of the 20 best kiddie shows. (Not even if you count only kiddie shows with talking dogs!)

How do you not include "Blake's 7"?

My list of best sci-fi shows:

#1: Doctor Who
#2: Blake's 7
#3: Otherworld
#4: Star Trek Voyager
#5: The Sarah Jane Adventures

Paul Again Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

STARGATE?!!? Why isn't Stargate in the list, I didn't like it, but many other people do!

Again, why is LOST in the list?!!?!?!?!

Paul Kruger Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

Where's Red Dwarf, Blake's 7, Lost in Space, Robotech, etc?

The official list is a JOKE!! Lost?? Heroes?!!? Twilight Zone!?!?!?! :-(

Mike Cross Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 03:00 AM EST

20.LOST (2006-
19.Space 1999 (1975-79)
18.Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1964-67

17. Planet of the Apes (1974)
16. Kolshak Night Stalker (1973-75)
15. Doctor Who (1963-
14. Future Rama (1993-95)
13. SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN (1974-78)
12. Star Trek Voyager (1994-99)
11. Battle Star Galactica (1st Series)
10. Quantum Leap (1989-93)
9. Outer Limits (1963-65)
8. X-Flies (1992-2003)
7. Star Gate (1999-
6. LOST IN SPACE (1965-68)
5. Incredible Hulk (1978-85)
4. Star Trek: Next Generation (1987-94)
3. DARK SHADOWS (1966-1971)
2. War of the Worlds (1987-88)
1. Twi Light Zone (1962-66)

Mike Cross Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 02:31 AM EST

WHAT ABOUT LOST IN SPACE (1965-68)??? IF there ever was a cult Icon show why wasn't that included in your "REAL" reserarch? And what about DARK SHADOWS (1966-1971)?? If there were ever two shows that should have been mentioned these were two of them! There was also a brief show I remember as a kid called THE INVADERS(1967). That show really scared the heck out of me as well as DARK SHADOWS!If you were more concerned with REAL Television research instead of ratings, you would have included these shows! Very very very poor researching!

joe g Sat, Nov 8, 2008 at 09:10 PM EST

st voyager ; space 1999 ; time trax was pretty good too

Jack Sat, Oct 25, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

Farscape! A fantastic show that ended waaay too early, and one of my top three (Star Trek and Doctor Who comprising the other two) so at least 2 out of 3 made it on this list. Farscape's Frell may have copied Frak from the old BSG, but where would the new BSG be with Baltar's implant without the famed Scorpius implant plot-point to come before it. Farscape also wasn't afraid to put some truly alien characters on the screen for us instead of human actors mascarading as such. This list is bogus without it!

Joe Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

1:Farscape
2:Stargate SG1
3:Stargate Atlantis
4:Firefly

Anthos17 Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

Anthos17, kid, they were saying 'frak' on BSG 20 years before Farscape copied with 'frell'.

First of all, I'm not your frelling "KID" and you have no idea how old I am. I loved the schlocky old BSG and love the new one even more, although I do think it's a bit overrated.

But, I don't recall "frak" being used back then. That seems awfully risque for a show in the 70's to use a word that sounds so close to "fuhk", but thats just my observation.

Anyways, could somebody at EW tell me what the bias is towards my all-time favorite show? Farscape is easily in the top 3 to 5 Greates Sci-Fi shows of all time!

Ben K. Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

Most of the shows you mentioned were pretty good, although some shows I wouldn't touch with ten foot pole. There are a couple of shows I would check out.

John Schmid Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:20 AM EST

Ten years must pass before any credible judgment can be made to where anything places in all time greatest lists. So current shows do not belong on this list.

That said, I've have proclaimed that the best show of all time, SF or not SF is Babylon 5. TZ, Star Trek (both original and Next Gen.), and X Files would follow.

ElectAPromQueen (maybe not?) Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

V Miniseries, they should revive it.

TheForceBeWithU Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 02:08 PM EST

You gave credit to the "Six Million Dollar Man" but none to the visionary "Farscape"...For Shame!

Kay Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

Where the hell is Buffy? Seriously, EW, major fail in this category.

hihihi Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 07:36 PM EST

HEROES!!!!

Brad Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

Anthos17, kid, they were saying 'frak' on BSG 20 years before Farscape copied with 'frell'.

But I can't believe I forgot to give props to Earth 2 and VR5 - great one-season wonders!

SLM Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 10:05 PM EST

Farscape and Futurama should be included on the list of best shows, not just Sci-fi shows.

Dave Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 07:18 AM EST

Are you freakin kidding me? Heroes is the best TV show ever made - period - let alone SCI FI. How could you put that at 11? And twilight zone - CRAP. Just because it was the first doesn't mean it was the best. What a bunch of dumb asses you all are...

DJJ Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:46 PM EST

Farscape; Blake's 7; The 4400; and 2 great series that ended after one season but deserved more: VR5; John Doe. Get rid of #'s 15-20!!

Em Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

Heroes? Heroes? I love EW, I do, but are you guys CRAZY?!?!?! Heroes is one of the worst shows EVER made. Lost is a good show, but sci-fi? I don't think so. Futurama, Farscape, and Red Dwarf should have been on the list.

Tim T. Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 04:03 AM EST

ST:DS9, Futurama, I'm glad that Space: Above and Beyond eventually got a mention in the comments, Red Dwarf, Sliders (1st and 2nd seasons), Blake's 7. You need an "Honorable Mentions" list.

Mork and Mindy anybody?

Gnillob802 Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:28 PM EST

UFO and Space 1999 are top five caliber (V, Firefly and Max Headroom don't belong on any list). If you haven't watched them on DVD your not a sci-fi fan. For the camp set dump Buck Rogers and replace with Lost and Space (shouldn't have that been obvious?). Also Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is the grandfather of all the Irwin shows. But what do you expect from someone who says Independence Day copied V. Any sci-fi fan worth his salt knows that ID4 was a remake of and that entire sequence first appeared in EARTH vs. THE FLYING SAUCERS (1956). The creators of this list get in F in sci-fi knowledge.

Rabbit Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Have to agree with a number of folks who argued for SG-1 and Roswell. Both very good shows with more going for them than the Jetsons. One more you forgot and you even posted a pix of it - Third Rock! C'mon! Joe Gordon Levitt's line as Tommy discussing puberty w/ Dick - "..there's a party in my pants!!"

scott w Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 02:23 PM EST

What no Stargate 200+ episodes, no Stargate Atlantis 100 episodes at the end of its run this season, oh and some show called FARSCAPE HELLO FRELL ME!!!!!

Bobby Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

Deep Space Nine, was a much better show than ST:NG as it was more inclusive regarding socity, religion, diversity. It just had much better stroies. And the best Sf comedy Red Dwarf. And lets nt forgt FARSCAPE.

Bobby Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

Deep Space Nine, was a much better show than ST:NG as it was more inclusive regarding socity, religion, diversity. It just had much better stroies. And the best Sf comedy Red Draft.

Jason Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:03 AM EST

Amen to Stargate SG-1. Where is it?!

Mark Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Babylon 5 is top 5! Every single serialized show on TV today that's not a soap opera can thank B5 for showing that an audience will buy into a show with a large story-arc over the life of the series.

Greg Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 09:08 AM EST

Doesn't anyone remember the series for "War of the Worlds" in the late 80's? If something that airs less than 1 season can make the list, I'm sure this one can. I really enjoyed the concept of how the aliens were resurrected from the 1953 movie. How they didn't die, but were basically "asleep" until nuclear waste "woke" them up. Very good show from the late 80's. It's too bad it didn't make the list. I also liked Farscape and can't believe it is not there somewhere. Who compiles these things anyway??

SJ Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:18 PM EST

@cndwelch: Farscape is on DVD, but it's hard to get a hold of the first season because it's out of print (which is another rant I could potentially get into if I let myself).

SJ Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:16 PM EST

I didn't want to click through this list because of the sinking feeling that Farscape would be shafted yet again. My curiousity got the better of me and, sure enough, my fears were proved well founded. Farscape is one of my favorite _shows_, let alone scifi shows.

Sco Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

Once again, Farscape gets no love from another incomplete & faulty EW list. For shame!

cndwelch Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

Lost and X-Files are my faves, and I liked Firefly. I hate to say it, but I've never heard of Farscape - when was it aired? Is it on DVD? Sorry for my ignorance.

edcaine21 Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

WHERE IS STARGATE SG-1?! there's a reason why it lasted 10 seasons, people!

DJ Rogue Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 03:28 PM EST

Something must be wrong with my new Firefox 3 browser...I kept clicking and never saw Farscape.

Damn you, Mozilla!

edcaine Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 03:27 PM EST

WHERE IS STARGATE SG-1?!

jaytuttle Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 03:09 PM EST

One word- Farscape. Farscape. Farscape!!!

Matt Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 02:12 PM EST

FARSCAPE!

It had Muppets! Muppets!

Mary Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

Quantum Leap, and that high on the list? Oh well. If you're going to include the better, shorter ones, I'd personally put Invasion above many on your list - but many thanks for including Firefly and Max Headroom. (And why not combine Star Trek series to free up space & include DS9?)

Anthos17 Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 01:42 PM EST

How can Farscape not be on this list and every other list of this kind on EW.com when nearly EVERYONE writing a response mentions it? Is there some kind of bias against Farscape? Oh, and the only reason Firefly is on here is because of it's over-hyped, overrated creator, Mr. Josh -I write simplistic catch phrases and manufactured boring teen angst and everyone thinks I'm so great- Whedon. Plus, MST3K? Buck-friggin' Rogers? Who's the Sci-Fi editor at EW who continuously get's this stuff entirely wrong??? And by the way, a lot of these shows (BSG, FireFly, etc.) STOLE a ton of ideas from Farscape!!! (i.e. FRELL = FRAK on Battlestar)

Maeghan Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 01:33 PM EST

Frak this list. BSG should be number one.

robert james Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

Okay, I have to say it too, Farscape. But I did love Lost in Space, the first sesaon is always my favorite because it was a bit dark and serious and then it kind of got wacky with the story lines in the second season. I never thought of Lost as sci-fi because if it is then what about Gilligan's Island.

Katy Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

That list is peppered with some lame ducks. Alien Nation? The Jetsons? Max Headroom?? And some of the choices can be held up as part of the reason people hate sci-fi and won't give it a chance (Babylon 5..)

By the way, Twin Peaks didn't make the cut? Really?

Shasta Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 12:57 PM EST

EARTH 2. Best show of all time. Clancy Brown is so awesome. Although I love all the shout outs to many of my other favorite shows. But Earth 2 was some quality sci-fi. Although I will forgive some plot missteps that were obviously driven by what mid-1990s networks thought audiences could or could not handle. "A show that builds on plots introduced earlier in the series? Heaven forbid!"

Jo Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 11:25 AM EST

I vote for "The Invaders" with Roy Thinnes and also "The Immortal" to be added to the list.

Amanda Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

What? I'm utterly appalled by the lack of Stargate on the list. And the Jetsons? Stargate SG-1 was a mix of fantastic storytelling, deep characterization, and not to mention it had a large humor aspect.

orac Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 11:11 AM EST

Yes to Firefly! Star Trek - Deep Space Nine should be on this list. It's by far the best Star Trek. And with a name like "Orac" I have to submit "Blake's 7" for inclusion. Some others for consideration: "Stargate SG-1", "Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles", and the short-lived "Star Cops".

jsh Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

I really enjoyed the SciFi Channel's 2002 Spielberg-produced 20-hour miniseries "Taken." And I loved "The 4400," at least in its early seasons. (Yes, I do kinda have a thing for Joel Gretsch.) But really, how could you leave "Torchwood" off any list of best SF series?

SciFi NUt Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

OK I know they have been mentioned but maybe more never hurt
Farscape!
SG1!
Dark Angel! (curse you Fox for that and Firefly, and futurama)
RED DWARF!!!!! (AND IN A WAY ROBOT WARS, LETS FACE IT THEY MAY NOT BE FANTASY BUT THEY DO GIVE US IDEAS ON WHAT COULD BE :>)

And I think a nod should go out to tales from the darkside, it might not be pure scifi but there were elements in there just like Kolchack the night stalker (the original please)

theatrebuff Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

Shame on you for not giving Stargate SG-1 a spot on your list! You have seriously ticked off the fans of this Sci-Fi show that delivered solid story-telling for 10 years. This show was pure entertainment.

Jayson Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:36 AM EST

I agree Farscape is sorely missing from this list...And while Jeri Ryan's 7 of 9 is the ultimate borg babe, none of the other Star Treks should have been on this list. They did not have a cultural impact the way that TNG and the original ST did. As for Buck Rogers...sigh yeah maybe the first couple of seasons worked. but once they picked up Hawk... Oi, it makes my brain hurt really bad!!!

At least they didn't include Stargate on the list. To have had that and not Farscape and I think the entire internet would have imploded!!!!

Oh, and The Jetsons over Futurama.. please...

Oh and for all you Buffy Junkies, NO BTVS should not be on this list!!! This is Sci-Fi NOT Horror!!! get that straight!!! Two different genres while they do occasionally intermingle, other than the Adam/Initiative story line, no way!!! Same with Kolchak, Brimstone and Millennium!!!

EW... I think you need to do a Horror show listing soon!!!!

Chiana Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:52 AM EST

WHERE THE FRELL IS FARSCAPE??? Seems like it gets left off of these types of lists all the time. *sigh* At least EW remembered to include the Twilight Zone... but come on, no Farscape???

SciFan Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:42 AM EST

Count me among the legions who can't believe Farscape wasn't on the list.

Mells Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:39 AM EST

Although Star Trek: TNG was the best, both DS9 and Voyager deserve recognition! Going back in time I'd have to say I loved Misfits of Science although no one really remembers it 'cept for a few posters here. At least you had BSG high on your list! It's an incredible show.

Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:36 AM EST

I can't believe there was no mention of Roswell!
I just started rewatching Season 1 on thewb.com. That is seriously one of the best shows ever. The chemistry between the characters was so good. Stuff like that is missing from the new shows this fall.

Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:32 AM EST

Wow, most of these shows are the reason that sci-fi gets no respect. They are awful! Futurama should be on there. Also Buffy Season 4. And sorry, but Bionic Woman was six million times better than Steve Austin!

Bud Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:30 AM EST

What was the name of the series that had a kid and a young man that used a time travel device that was held in hand, (the kid was a whiz with history)?

--That show was called "Voyagers"

Lucas Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 09:25 AM EST

Seriously, where was Farscape, Futurama and Red Dwarf?

David Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 08:55 AM EST

And don't forget:
UFO
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
The Time Tunnel

What was the name of the series that had a kid and a young man that used a time travel device that was held in hand, (the kid was a whiz with history)?

Bud Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 08:45 AM EST

"It's beer o'clock...Where the frell is my Farscape!" Some of the best one-liners every spoken in a sci-fi series, or any series for that matter, come from this show.

With the advent of webisodes (hopefully sometime this year) and a new comic series (to debut November,) Farscape has developed a cult following that continues to grow long after the shows untimely demise on the SciFi Channel.

Marisa Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 08:41 AM EST

Not that it deserves to be on the Top 20 of all time list - but my personal fav is James Cameron's Dark Angel. While season 2 ended on a low note, the concept still thrills me. Genetically created soldiers, who were gorgeous (except for the freaky looking ones), and could kicked serious @ss in a futuristic (econ-depression) society.

cari Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 08:01 AM EST

What about seaQuest DSV?? I loved that show in the early 90s. Waaaay better than Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman which it was pitted against on Sunday nights... I miss Roy Scheider and Jonathan Brandis

samantha Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 07:54 AM EST

Wow, No Futurama. That's a friggin' crime. Especially since you put "Buck Rogers" and "the Jetsons" on the list. I agree with who ever said that "Star Blazers" should have been on the list. They could also have "Robotech," especially the Macross saga. Characters died on both shows that's a biggie when your a kid. No one dies on cartoons, unless it's anime.

WTF? Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 07:38 AM EST

Is anyone else disturbed by the appearance of Jane Curtin in the above photo? Was there something wrong with her in the series?

Janitor Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 07:28 AM EST

FUTURAMA FUTURAMA FUTURAMA!!! Not only is it a terrific sci-fi show in itself, but it's a brilliant show ABOUT other sci-fi. It's life cut short by those idiots at Fox, later brought back when everyone else was able to discover its true genius. EW, you fools! You foolish fools!!

To Richard Jones and Nathan Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 07:20 AM EST

Doctor Who's effects are a lot better in the new series. Plus, a lot of people do watch the show, not only in the U.S., but Britain and the British Commonwealth. Plus a show has to be doing something right to have run as long as it has.
Firefly's one season is more a sign of FOX's crappy judgment than the quality of the show. I don't quite get how anyone can hate Firefly's excellent blend of sci-fi and western, drama and comedy. Oh well, I'm still glad that it was on the list.

JCrichton Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 06:31 AM EST

It's criminal that Farscape is continually left off of your "best of SF" lists. The leads actually had believable chemistry, and easily should be in the top ten!

Ezekial Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 05:47 AM EST

Doctor Who is the best sci-fi show ever! I can't believe that it isn't at least in the top five.

DarkHawke Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 04:45 AM EST

I'm with all of you below who decry the lack of Farscape and the presence of Buck Rogers, but I take further exception at the order of the list itself. B5 so low, with what it did? Gimme a break! Mystery Science Theater? That had an SF setting, but was hardly an SF show. I'm no Stargate SG1 fan, but that would have been a far more appropriate selection. Props, though, for remembering such forgotten gems like the Six Million Dollar Man and Max Headroom. And if you're gonna have an animated show, why not Star Blazers? T'was a spectacular effort, even if it edged into typical anime illogic now and then. Maybe not as popular as the Jetsons, but sooo much cooler!

Cat Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 02:19 AM EST

Like so many, I can't believe you didn't include Farscape and Stargate SG-1. I love BSG, Lost, and Heroes, but those two shows definitely deserved to be in the top 10. You put Firefly, but not Farscape???

Star Trek: Deep Space 9. It was sooo underappreciated. It had sci fi elements but it also had great drama as well too it and the acting was phenominal. Who didn't almost tear up in The Visitor episode?

One season does not make a great show.

Richard Jones Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 01:50 AM EST

Firefly??? Please what kind of drugs you taken???

Barry Wray Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 01:20 AM EST

Buck Rogers made #20??? The Prisoner should have made the top five. Also, Dr. Who should have been higher and Kolchak: the Night Stalker was completely left off the list.

I know Dr.Who's been on the air for about 94 years, but seriously, does anybody actually watch it? Those effects are not too special.

I realize tonight was just the first episode, but "Fringe" WILL go down as one of TV's all time best shows

I vote for The Invaders (1966-1968).

Twilight Zone was first and foremost fantasy, not science fiction. Generally, those episodes that were actually sf were pretty weak.

I will add to the cry of despair that Farscape was not in the top 20, heck, top 10. Great writing, fantastic character development, great actor chemistry and the Henson puppet shop made some unbelievable aliens. Give me Farscape over Star Trek any day of the week.

dickymoe Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 10:12 PM EST

How about The 4400? Seems to me Heroes nicked a bit from them.

Farscape Farscape Farscape

Better than all of them, you have failed utterly in your list by not including them.

vid Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 09:33 PM EST

wtf? no ROSWELL?!? C'mon! HEROES at #11 and ROSWELL isn't even on the list?

eyesoar1 Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 09:24 PM EST

Each time I clicked I got more excited that Farscape was getting a better ranking. And then it never appeared! What a shame. Although I was glad to see Firefly get some love.

Fred Pfenninger Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

Brimstone was the best science fiction TV series I ever saw. Unfortunately it was short lived.

Jane Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:47 PM EST

I'll be the first to admit that "Eureka" is not a groundbreaking sci-fi show - even if it is consistently entertaining - but no mention of "Farscape" or "Futurama"? Pbfft! (As The Doctor would say, "No, no. Don't do that.")

Bebe Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:34 PM EST

My favorite is ROSWELL!

Evil Pam Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:00 PM EST

FIREFLY! YES! MST3K YES YES! But no smegging Red Dwarf? NO NO! It must have been #21; Space 1999 was 1999 x better than the icky icky twikki Buck Rogers.
