It's anybody's guess what kind of surprises could be in store for the 25th Video Music Awards tonight. Will Britney dance? (Er, maybe.) Will Kanye tell us something unexpected about his next album? (Sounds like it.) Will American audiences be able to understand any of the jokes coming out of Russell Brand's mouth? (We hope so!) Whatever may come, Adrienne Day and Simon Vozick-Levinson will be on hand to sort it out...or just let us know what you think here

Adrienne: Finally, Britney! I feel I've been waiting a long time for this moment...
Adrienne: Is this 'Sweet Dreams'?
Simon: Personally, I think Britney's stair-walking was flawless.
Simon: Ha! Rihanna stole Leona Lewis' Olympics dress.
Adrienne: She was pretending it was a Stairmaster.
Simon: Still not sure what's going on with that outfit (is that a bustle?), but this performance is way less creepy/more enjoyable than her video for this song.
Adrienne: Nice White Stripes intro there.
Adrienne: Russell! Nice hair?
Simon: Rihanna's second performance is going to "melt my soul"? That sounds painful!
Adrienne: Hah, totally
Adrienne: I'm so glad I can understand his accent. Was worried for a minute
Simon: Me too, though he definitely just pronounced Kanye "Can-yea"...
Adrienne: Isn't that how you pronounce it?
Simon: Nah it's "Kahn-yea"!
Adrienne: Wow, Obama plug so early on!
Adrienne: "Can" sounds Southern
Simon: Ooh, this cutting political comment is fantastic!
Adrienne: Love it
Adrienne: VILF!
Adrienne: There's a new one
Simon: None of this has anything whatsoever to do with music, videos, or MTV...but I'm cool with it!
Adrienne: I feel VILFY watching this bit...
Adrienne: "Use a condom, or become Republican."
Simon: Wow.
Adrienne: The FCC might have a field day with this
Simon: Yeah, I bet the Parents' Television Council is LOVING this routine
Adrienne: Paging Tipper Gore!
Adrienne: Wow, I just realized how much of his chest you can see...not sure if that's a good or a bad thing
Simon: That "baseball bat" line — am I watching the VMAs or Eddie Murphy: RAW?
Adrienne: Ouch
Simon: (Not necessarily a complaint!)
Adrienne: :)
Adrienne: Who was that with the huge knockers? (Am I allowed to say "knockers" here?)
Adrienne: Jamie Foxx-y!
Adrienne: I just woke up, I think
Simon: Jamie's improv'd Busta Rhymes impression just then was almost as good as his Ray Charles.
Adrienne: Did he he just say, "I see TI? He get that bail money?"
Simon: Jamie's "full, unconditional support for the ladies": More or less controversial than Russell's Obama shout-out?
Adrienne: And the winner for best female video is...
Adrienne: :O
Adrienne: We're speechless too, Brit
Simon: I'm glad she thanked God —' He's definitely a big "Piece of Me" fan.
Adrienne: LOL
Adrienne: The silver lame is a definite upgrade from last year's black jumpsuit
Simon: Ahh! Get Spencer and Heidi off my screen!
Simon: Actually in fairness, I'm sorta impressed that Spencer knows the word "papyrus."
Adrienne: It's a new era for MTV — the "SAT" generation

Simon: Okay, is it just my cable provider or is that the eight-thousandth time they've shown that ad for Christina Aguilera's new fragrance tonight?
Adrienne: There it is again!
Simon: No offense, but does anyone really wake up saying, "I want to smell like Xtina today"??
Adrienne: Hah
Adrienne: Is that really Brit's first VMA?
Adrienne: "Duh-MEE Moore"
Adrienne: Love the accent
Simon: Honestly I do not think that Demi's entrance qualifies as "descending in a magnificent way."
Simon: Whoa, T.I. is inside that guy's face - trippy!
Adrienne:  Ewww
Adrienne: You rooting for him?
Simon: You bet!
Adrienne: Humpf
Simon: Oh well, I like Chris Brown too
Adrienne: Me too. But does he deserve it?
Simon: Good question!
Simon: Whoa, did Russell just blow up Chris and Rihanna's spot?
Adrienne: PopWatchers, we leave this to you to debate
Adrienne: I think he did!
Adrienne: Wow, wow, and wow
Simon: OMG the Jonas Brothers travel by cab? They are so down-to-earth.
Adrienne: Ha. So plebe.
Adrienne: Doesnt that look like a stoop on Sesame Street or something?
Simon: It DOES!
Adrienne: They are cutie pies tho
Simon: Not sure the acoustic format is working for them...
Adrienne: Yeah, a little weak.
Simon: And I say this as someone who sorta enjoys their singles!
Simon: I'm waiting for Oscar to come in on trash-can percussion.
Adrienne: Ha!
Simon: That stoop was all just a set! My mind is blown right now.
Simon: These rushing crowds look like a scene from A Hard Day's Night .... or Cloverfield.
Adrienne: So meta. "None of it is real."
Simon: Hah!
Adrienne: Ha! I was thinking the same
Adrienne: "Like a Virgin!"
Adrienne: Now we're speaking my language
Adrienne: [And showing my age]
Simon: Wait, is this Katy Perry performance actually happening right now? Huh?
Adrienne: Yeah, but they'll cycle it back in after the commercial, I bet
Simon: Yeah, I really hope they do not do that...And yet I fear they shall.
Simon: UGH — Lil Wayne is guesting on Kid Rock's "All Summer Long," according to this weird bottom-of-screen ticker. I loathe that song. Why must Weezy sully himself by rapping on it??
Simon: Yep, the ticker just compared Paramore to Led Zeppelin. Epic fail.
Adrienne: Bette Midler and Dan Aykroyd hosted the VMAs 25 years ago. Now we have a lewd UK comedian. Times have changed...
Simon: So who's everyone rooting for in the big ABDC dance-off? The winner's apparently being announced in 7 minutes. My money's on unfairly booted season 2 alums FannyPak...
Simon: Wow, an ad for Jermaine Dupri's TAG Records. I was hoping that was all just a bad dream.
Adrienne: There we go. Kate Perry $ shot
Simon: Is she even pretending to sing over the backing vocals?
Adrienne: AND we missed the song!
Adrienne: Tacky, MTV!
Adrienne: I didnt get that b---- joke
Simon: Yeah me neither? I'm glad he called that JoBros performance "career-defining," tho.
Simon: Hey, Michael Phelps listens to all the same commercial rappers I do!
Adrienne: LOL
Adrienne: You guys have a lot in common!
Simon: He looks pretty uncomfortable up there tho. They shoulda let him do that intro from a fishtank.
Adrienne: Hello, crotchgrab
Simon: Is Weezy freestyling these lyrics? I think so — and MTV's five-second-delay censors seem to agree...
Adrienne: Yeah, he must be
Simon: Aw, they're not letting Leona Lewis do the "A MILLI-A MILLI-A MILLI" back-up vocals? Missed opportunity, MTV.
Simon: Whoa, T-Pain!  Open question, folks: Why is he wearing that silly top hat all the time lately?
Simon: Seriously — I'll ask Mr. Pain myself if I have a chance, but in the meantime I would appreciate any light anyone can shed on the subject.
Adrienne: Like Buckethead. Sorta
Simon: YES!
Adrienne: But no chicken
Simon: This Weezy-driven medley was easily the highlight of the night so far, tho, all jokes aside.
Simon: Russell Brand just called Lil Wayne "mate" and marveled at the fact that he was "losing his trousers"! Love it.
Adrienne: I think he was being...sarcastic? I couldn't tell.
Simon: Yeah, unclear? Fairly hilar either way...
Simon: Yes, FannyPak won! All is right with the world.
Simon: This is sweet karmic retribution for their ridiculously early elimination from ABDC.
Adrienne: My money's on the P Dolls
Adrienne: I am...correct!
Simon: OOF. That is just wrong.
Simon: Chris Brown and Madonna was robbed!
Adrienne: For once. Revel in the wrongness of it, Simon
Simon: I am reveling so bad right now.
Adrienne: Why is God getting top billing in all the thank-yous?
Adrienne: He must like them, too
Adrienne: Miley does Bon Jovi??
Simon: Ooh, I almost forgot there was a new "Charm School" series coming...starring "Rock of Love" rejects...hosted by Sharon Osbourne. Can't wait!
Simon: Uhoh, Danity Kane are this awards ceremony's Price Waterhouse? I am not reassured.
Simon: Russell is definitely going off-script here — you see the cameraman scramble to get a reaction shot of Kobe?
Simon: Russell looks more like a vampire than any of these Twilight cast members. Just sayin.
Adrienne: Totally!
Simon: Also I can totally see Edward in that hall-of-mirrors thing. So not a vampire
Simon: (Did I just expose my ignorance of the Twilight universe's rules? Possibly!)
Adrienne: Why are Paramore performing offsite? Did they not have enough room at the VMA site?
Adrienne: Guess you need extra room for all that rock star ego...
Simon: I'm gonna keep making shoddily-reasoned Twilight jokes to avoid commenting on this annoying Paramore performance.
Adrienne: I kind of like them, I have to admit
Adrienne: Is that bad?
Simon: Nah! I actually think Hayley is kinda cool, but I cannot stand the rest of that band.
Adrienne: What band? :)
Simon: Hah! Exactly.
Adrienne: She IS the band, as far as I'm concerned
Adrienne: Oops, did i mess up? I thought they were playing offsite
Simon:  It looked like they were! so much set-design trickery
Adrienne: !!!
Simon: They just told us to "take cover" for Miley - duly noted, MTV
Adrienne: I LOVE the new Pink video
Adrienne: I am VERY excited about this. Perhaps for the first time tonight
Simon: I, meanwhile, am very excited about EW's upcoming "Battle of the Bureau Bands" after seeing that kick-ass Rock Band 2 ad. LA bureau, you ain't ready. (Actually you probably are.)
Adrienne: We dont even have a real office practice space! (Tim Stack's office is not a "real" space.)
Simon: Oh, why, Russell, are you pretending to have stolen one of the Jonas Brothers' purity rings?!
Adrienne: It seems to be a running joke. But over my head.
Simon: You heard it here first: Shia should be the new lead singer of Velvet Revolver.
Adrienne: It could only improve the band (sorry, VR fans)
Adrienne: Go Foos!
Adrienne: So many covers this year.
Adrienne: Linkin Schminkin
Simon: Noted: The mere thought of Linkin Park makes Slash crack up giggling. Make of that what you will.
Simon: Did Russell Brand just call Miley's crew "yoppos"? Is that some sort of weird British slur?
Adrienne: YAY!!!!
Adrienne: I heart Pink. I really really do. And hot blue...trenchcoat?
Simon: These sets are continuing to blow my mind. Is she on a real NYC street?!?!
Simon: Committing random acts of terrorism!?
Adrienne: Naw, that's Seattle during the WTO conference
Simon: OR IS IT?
Adrienne: [Cue Twilight Zone music]
Simon: This performance is pretty awesome though.
Adrienne: I have goosebumps. I really do. Am shocked by that fact
Simon: Is her guitarist Robert Plant?
Adrienne: Ha!
Adrienne: Um, I think she's wearing silver glittery pasties
Adrienne: Which is HOTT
Simon: The Ting-Tings deserved more than one of these interstitial half-performances. This song rocks!
Adrienne: WTF is up with that?
Adrienne: Wow, she is a giant next to him
Simon: Aww, Pete and Ashlee are cute together.
Adrienne: Okay, slight exaggeration
Simon: Only slight!
Simon: Hahaha, Russell Brand is still gratuitously lashing out at the Republicans apropos of nothing. Best VMA host ever.
Simon: Not gonna lie, Slipknot scares me.
Simon: OMG McLovin was in one of their masks. Even scarier!
Adrienne: People are gonna be up in arms about it tho (the GOP lashing)
Simon: Yep, and tomorrow everyone will be talking about the VMAs. MTV FTW!
Adrienne: You happy, Simon?
Simon: Lil Wayne wins Hip-Hop Video of the Year! Only fair, this is really his year (by MTV standards, at least)
Adrienne: Does he have tats on his face?
Simon: Oh, does he ever.
Adrienne: I feel like such a grandma — are those TATTOOS on his FACE?
Simon: Uh, Jordin Sparks just called anyone who doesn't wear a promise ring "a slut." WTF??
Adrienne: Ugh
Adrienne: I hope Slezak is watching, so he can explain that one in the office tomorrow
Simon: I love T.I.'s perpetual smirk.
Simon: One day, I hope I am as suave as he.
Adrienne: You are Simon. It's subtle. But it's there.
Simon: AWW! Thanks, Adrienne.
Adrienne: You just need those wheels....
Simon: Oh wow, he's doing his new song that samples the "Numa Numa" song.
Adrienne: Yay! This song is actually great
Simon: It IS! As much as I love Ri-Ri, tho, part of me wishes Tip had just gotten Gary Brolsma to sing the hook.
Adrienne: Quick with the Wik, Simon!
Adrienne: The refrain, "nu mă, nu mă iei", can be approximately translated from Romanian as "you don't, you don't take me [with you]."
Simon: See, that is why I am happy that Wikipedia exists.
Adrienne: I knew that offhand, of course
Simon: No offense to anyone, but T.I.'s sheer lyrical dextrousness CRUSHES every other rapper who will appear on stage tonight. You hear him nail those multisyllables live?
Adrienne: More covers!
Adrienne: This is your area of expertise, Simon, but I trust you on it
Simon: Weezy and Kanye are both great artists too. Just sayin'.
Adrienne: I almost forgot Kanye's showing up!
Adrienne: Ha! This is funny: Lauren says in the comments section, "I think Rhianna is having to hold herself to avoid a 'wardrobe malfunction.'"
Simon: Ooh, it did kinda look like that!
Simon: The HSM3 cast! Will any of them join the ongoing debate over the value of abstinence-only policies??
Simon: Guess not.
Simon: On another note — this futuristic "Genie in a Bottle" remake is killer.
Simon: This actual new song is pretty great too! And I think Xtina just brought the evening's crotch-grab tally up to (at least) three.
Simon: Her Back to Basic '40s kick was okay, but I am so glad she's back to synth-pop, where she belongs.
Adrienne: Is it impolitic to say that Xtina looks...different?
Simon: Ha — my girlfriend was just wondering the same thing..
Simon: Oh wow, Russell is talking about abstinence pledges AGAIN. He is not afraid of controversy, is he?
Adrienne: That was a weird little ramble, no?
Simon: Yeah, it did kinda look like someone from MTV made him apologize... I think the R. Kelly jokes pretty much undermined any apology value that had, tho
Adrienne: Tokio Hotel. Yay. Those folks, it's actually TOKYO
Simon: The Tokio Hotel guy and Russell Brand should trade hair tips.
Adrienne: US Army jacket he's wearing
Adrienne: M.I.A. as bumper music. I wish she was here
Simon: Seriously!
Adrienne: A little "Paper Planes" would do me good right about now
Simon: This anti-drug ad is mad trippy, yo.
Adrienne: I'm sick of the texting ads. "Text VIP for blah blah blah." It makes me want to text SLP for sleep...
Simon: Yes, but Danity Kane is reading your texts! Tell me that doesn't sweeten the deal. (Okay, actually it does not sweeten the deal even a little bit.)
Simon: LL Cool J's "Going Back to Cali" has now been relegated to one of those weird half-song bits. RIP, Hip-Hop.
Simon: Hahaha, Russel Brand's serious nodding during Paris' Teleprompter speech made me LOL.
Adrienne: Brit, again? Who's on this voting committee anyway?
Simon: ...and, Brit thanks God again.
Simon: Lupe Fiasco deserves a full performance, too! Surely they could have fit him in there instead of, like, one of those Katy Perry songs.
Adrienne: It's tragic. But they need to make room for all those TAG ads
Simon: Oh, the tragedy!
Adrienne: Least everyone smells nice, I imagine. Probably a lot of perfume samples in the VMA gift bags.
Adrienne: Because when I hear music? I think of body odor
Simon: When I hear "Jermaine Dupri," I do. [Rimshot!] J/k, Jermaine, I will always respect you for bringing us Kriss Kross and The Emancipation of Mimi.
Simon: Yet more M.I.A. music used as intro/exit soundtrack! Almost as good as the real thing?
Adrienne: I doubt she's get a visa after "Planes" broke.
Simon: What is Kid Rock drinking out of that plastic glass? Wack Sauce?
Simon: They should do a split-screen where they show Warren Zevon and Ronnie Van Zant spinning in their graves during this monstrosity of a "song."
Simon: Have I mentioned that I really, really dislike Kid Rock?
Adrienne: I was just going to say the exact same thing — except in a more direct, this totally sucks kind of way
Simon: Can Lil Wayne save this performance?
Simon: And the answer is...sort of, but I still wish we could have gotten that verse with 100 percent less Kid Rock.
Adrienne: Ha. I thought that was Will.i.am at first
Simon: Understandable, given the hat!
Adrienne: http://will-i-am.blackeyedpeas.com
Simon: I would vastly prefer to have just seen Lil Wayne perform "Freebird." Anyone with me?
Simon: Btw, sounds like the finale is in 8 mins...
Adrienne: Good, 'cause I'm out of beer
Simon: Sounds like the show's almost over. We still have approx 6 minutes for Britney to  break out that choreography we saw her practicing as a surprise!
Simon: BTW, Adam Carolla just said I'm not a real man because I enjoy sashimi. Between that and Jordin Sparks calling me a slut before, I am feeling pretty insulted.
Simon: Kobe's presenting Video of the Year? They couldn't get an actual music celeb?
Adrienne: If Brit wins again, I'm...gonna be pissed off
Simon: Remember, though, God is on her side.
Simon: See?
Adrienne: [Throws hands in the air in exasperation]
Simon: Brit claims she "really wasn't expecting this." Uh-huh.
Adrienne: She doesn't seem that surprised
Adrienne: exactly!
Simon: Why did Russell just load her onto a forklift?
Simon: Is this show still going on?
Simon: This is like the Pam Anderson scene in Borat.
Adrienne: LOL
Simon: Kanye!
Simon: He has a robotic heart, just like Tony Stark.
Adrienne: His little heart beats as one
Simon: And he's singing, just like T-Pain.
Adrienne: And he's awardless, just like the Ting Tings
Simon: Hah!
Simon: Ooh, digging the Nina Simone-y pianos...
Simon: Okay, this is a dope groove, but I really hope 'Ye starts, y'know, rapping at some point...
Simon: ...
Simon: ...
Adrienne: Whoa. Creepy drumming action. They look like extras in Princess Mononoke
Simon: This song would be awesome...if Kanye gave it to an actual singer.
Simon: Is that seriously it?
Adrienne: And, let me third that ...
Adrienne: ...
Simon: One word for that song: OOF .
Simon: I am on record as a big, big Kanye fan, but that was...well...I'll give it a few days to sink in?
Adrienne: Let it stink in. I mean, sink
Adrienne: Sigh. What did the rest of you think of Kanye's perf?
Adrienne: Okay. I've had my fill of chastity jokes
Simon: I will never have my fill of inappropriate jokes from Russell Brand... but I've definitely had my fill of this VMAs broadcast.
Adrienne: With that, we'll leave it to the rest of you to discuss. Enjoy the post-show! I'm off to bed...

To be honest, just because you're not a virgin doesnt mean you're a slut. For god's sake Jordin get over yourself and stop being so over the top. Russell was amazing to be honest and to "rick" as a brit I can truthfully say well done. You have proved your US of A is an utter joke. You say we're making fun of you? There's a reason, mate. All you want is to screw with the rest of the world and be called the master race

Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

I'm glad Britney won! None of the nominated videos were very good this year but I think hers stands out. She deserved it! Go britney!

kp Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

If Russell Brand is considered brilliant, I weep for the future.

scarlett Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 12:21 PM EST

I think russell brand is brilliant - he is really funny and witty and as a rising comic genius I think we should let him off the hook thi sonce - i just want to see what he says in his next radio show (if they let him air it)

Jay Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:11 AM EST

Not too much mention of Lil'Wayne....I mean he was terrible!!! No talent, offensive grabbing himself and those pants!!!
He should be banned from TV. No need for a non-talented rude jerk!!!!

John Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 02:05 AM EST

Who could be bothered?.......

alicia Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 12:00 AM EST

Russell is so funny, but LA is not the best place for him to have a major debut.British humor is just not LA MTV award show material. I feel bad for him because he is so great, but the crowd wasn't giving him much to work with. Sorry Russell, maybe start in NY of SF in the comedy clubs first. La is a terrible town for anyone non mainstream.

R0bYnN Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Russel Brand-Brilliant! jokes were hilarous! i love him now : )
and i loved his Obama bump!
Rihanna-Great! and omg people she doesnt have fat legs or anythin like that it was no. 1 those boots cuz they were high and laced tight and no. 2 her legs are just like that she looks good stop hatin people!
Britney Spears-she was aiight, but she didnt need to win video of the year
Overall-vmas was about 7/10. britney kinda killed it for me cuz she won to much for nothing

Luis PJ Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:49 PM EST

I love that I keep hearing worst VMA ever...until next year.

Can You say: Most Over-use quote ever

ralpherus Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 06:43 PM EST

I would like to introduce the junkie to my truncheon.

Andy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Wow, what's with all the Brit bashing? Russel Brand is funny, he just wasn't well suited to host this show. That assumes that anyone could save this show. Maybe they shouldn't have a host. Maybe they shouldn't have a show. If you morons stopped watching it, they might get the message.

He's a COMEDIAN. They talk about current events, including Presidential elections. He probably only brought it up to do the "retarded cowboy" joke, which was funny if you understand his character as an ignorant foreigner. And the purity ring stuff, they're JOKES. Jordin Sparks can say whatever she wants (although apparently not articulately, there is a middle ground between chastity and slutiness), but so can Brand. So get mad at MTV for putting him on the same show with the Jonas Brothers, just a dumb idea that was doomed to fail.

azulviolet Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

Russell Brand was nervous; I mean nobody knew who he was and he was supposed to entertain and amaze us all. It was a nice attempt, but he didn't have the material to deliver. He's not in with the hip hop crowd or really the rock crowd so he had nowhere to go but the pop way ie. Britney and The Jonas brothers. As for his political rant I thought it was funny. Of course people will vote for whomever they want and all his begging won't change people's minds, but he clearly voices the point of view from the other side of the world(really we're not the only country in the world). The show over all was pretty lame, from the boring red carpet(oh, wow! Let's see who shows up in a monster truck, an elephant or a smart car, who cares?) Britney should have read her 50 word intro beforehand and she would have been fine. She looked good. On the other hand Christina looked awful and lipsinking? OMG! At least Kanye was "singing" live. MTV disappoints me once more.

Matt Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

First off, MTV is no longer Music TeleVision, it's just reality shows. TRL doesn't even show videos anymore (Carson, please come back) As for the VMAs the ebst part was Russell Brand. I've been watching his stand up for a while now and I was very excited to see him host. I don't even fell remotely bad for the Jonas Bros. He's a comedian. If you can't take a joke, maybe you shouldn't be at the ADULT award show. Chris Rock made fun of people right and left and everyone would laugh? Why do people care when no talkent humps like the Jonas Bros can't take a joke?

Phil Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

Russell Brand - Brilliant!!!

Jordin Sparks..no one cares what you think, your still a nobody

emily Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

yeah that russel dude kept making fun of the jonas brothers for having purity rings. okay russel not everyone wants to be a slut. all the time. he must be like an addict to that. he made my mad. the only reason i watched the vmas is to see jonas brothers. but i could hardly watch them because he kept saying mean stuff about them. Okay.

delishua Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

I love Russel Brand, but he seemed very out of place. The audience didnt seem to like him (or understand him). We've gotten so politically correct that the audience couldnt even begin to laugh at his jokes.

Brittney looked well. She's very brave for attending and I love her for it.

The venue was horrible. I felt like they could have done a better job in my backyard. The audience looked bored and uncomfortable the entire time. The setting was just akward. You couldnt look forward. Instead you had to look left, right, upside down...... This makes no sense. Stop trying so hard to be cool MTV. Are your ratings dropping or something????
Rihanna's performance with T.I was more interesting than her opening act. In fact Pink should have been the opener. And Disturbia should have been performed outside with more effects and space. I really blame the venue.
I also think that stars who debut their new songs at award shows are doing themselves a diservice. NO ONE knows your new song. So NO ONE will sing along. DUH! Sing the song that you got famous for and everyone will continue loving you!

The animation: horrible! I know this is 25yrs later, but please MTV get over the nostalgia. Your target audience didnt even know MTV had weird animation, so to them it just seems old and ugly.

Christina Agueliera: hmmm? She looked like Brittney! Her performance was unnecessary. I was intrigued at first, but then she started singing a song that I've never heard of and I just changed the channel.

I dunno. The VMA's are never fun. But this one in particular was odd. It seemed thrown together at the last minute. Everyone just looked confused.

Rose Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Russell Brand joked about child abuse, everything dirty you could think of, bashed the Jonas brothers for their personal choices, the show used the F word toward women and told us we all had to vote for Obama. Wow, a new low even for MTV. Worst VMAs ever.

delishua Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Wow, did someone really say that they planned on a) watching the entire VMAs and b) with their 14 year old as a family treat!

I think this mentality shows that mtv really is over now!

mark bennett Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:25 PM EST

I hope you don,t consider yourself a writer mr. susman. Arrogance is not intelligence.

Suzann Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

The show and the host were just below par and very disappointing for a 25th anniversary show. Russell Brand was awkward in the beginning and drove the politics into the ground. I didn't want to watch politics, I wanted to watch an entertaining awards show. Britney looked great and I think one award would have sufficed but three made it a charity event and the caliber of videos in general seemed vacuous and just not like past years that had some really interesting and creative choices. The performances were not thrilling either. Some were okay and others just plain boring. I think all in all it was over-hyped and just did not deliver at all.

WICKEDLADY Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

THIS YEARS VMAS WAS THE WORST EVER !!!! WHO FREAKN CARES ABOUT BRITANY N-E MORE BESIDES LITTLE GIRLS.SO TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT THAT DUMBASS !!!!

Drew Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

Britney didn't deserve those awards. It was a behind the scenes agreement to have her on the show, and continue to give her some kind of longevity when she's completely dropped the ball in her career.

The political comments go fine on this show. This isn't the Grammies or the AMA's. It's the place for the lighthearted banter. The awards are virtually meaningless as MTV doesn't play videos anymore. And, yes, the world laughed at us for putting W in for another 4 years.

Chris Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

Seriously? Do we really CARE what Jordin Sparks thinks?

Russell was fantastic. Crass, over-the-top and honest. Probably the only reason why I didn't change the channel from this year's pathetic VMA's. The rapping was boring. The presenters were boring. I'm tired of Disney and Nickelodeon taking over MTV. Rihanna is overrated and has a weak voice. Xtina and Pink were the only salvageable moments of the night, too bad for the lip-synching.

And please, people who leave comments: check your spelling and grammar if you really want others to take you seriously. /rant

'merika Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:27 PM EST

@ rick Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST:
The comments you made (below)are exactly why the rest of the world thinks that Americans are all war-loving, bigoted idiots. Seriously. It's embarrassing.

"The performers were good. On the other hand Russell Brand made me wanna get on stage and beat his faggie little body to a pulp I had to change it. Isnt it a joke when a foreigner come on live US tv and makes a joke out of our country and he gets applauded by americans?? Our youth are lost in space It gives me a glimpse of what we are in for in the future. If obama gets in we are done!!!!!!" -

turdcutter Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:27 PM EST

I used to be a fan of MTV. The award show that was on last night was horrible. 25 years of this groundbreaking format and this what we get ? Some English guy who was 6 degrees from being gay, 3 females who perfomances where awesome ( we'll forget about christina's lip-syncing )after that the rest of the show sucked. Kanye closed it, maybe he should have opened then maybe it would have been a little better.

Tony Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

I agree, the BET awards are starting to do Better than MTV awards, Mtv is running out of surprises

Melli Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

Russel Brand was hella funny.... yea some of his jokes went a little over some peoples heads but I really enjoyed his daring spirit and the fact that hey... he's on MTV the place where u should be able to really say what u feel and not give a crap about it being too offensive.... come on...
Lil Wayne and Pink were awesome but overall it was a very lackluster show...

Alicia Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

I was just looking for a li "yay" or "nay" type vote here...DID EVERYONE LIKE THE 2008 MTV AWARDS SHOW?

Miki Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

I Didnt Know it was the 25th Anniversery of the VMA s til just now lol

Amanda Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

Actually, the German spelling of Tokyo is Tokio, so they aren't wrong.

enuffznuff Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

the rings are a marketing ploy. nothing more.

nobody needed Sparks to protect them. if they can't handle a COMEDIAN telling jokes at their expense, then they shouldn't be in showbiz. it was a very high school thing to do, call someone out for "being mean" and then making a dig at them.

jokes on her though, i BET YOU MONEY that she'll be the butt of some comedians' joke when word of her need to be mamma hen to the "poor jonas brothers" and the people who wear "purity rings", which, as i've said before, is kind of a creepy thing when two of the boys are over voting age. kind of a childish, immature symbol for GROWN UPS who are well adjusted.

foke teando Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:23 PM EST

Does Russell Brand also sell those towels on late night TV?

JenM Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:22 PM EST

The best part about the Jordin Spark's part was the guy next to her (John Legend?). He turned his hands so you could see he wasn't wearing any rings and shook his head like "no chastity ring on my finger!"

The issue people have with Jordin's comment is that implies if you don't have sex you are "pure" but if you do have premarital sex you are automatically a "slut" - no middle ground.

sweet caroline Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:21 PM EST

I do not appreciate a foreigner come to my house and insult the process of democracy and the result of it. And when you are an entertainer ..do entertain us ... and if you an ex sex addict ..the last thing you want ot talk is sex in any form. Hey you brand..stay out of my home and don't ever spit on my "family' ever!!

Tara Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

Even though I don't wear a promise ring, I appreciate what Jordin said because there are too many sluts on TV. With shows like The Hills, Gossip Girl, and now Paris Hilton's BFF. Plus a VD-promoting host like Russell Brand, ick! Seriously, we need someone speaking out against the slutiness. Personally, I don't think promise rings are the answer, but that's me. If you chose to wear one, more power to you.

Jayne Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:10 PM EST

You guys have it backwards. I don't think Jordin called everyone who doesn't wear promise ring a slut (I've never seen her wear one). She's just coming to the defense of people who chose to wear one. It's refreshing to see someone who's always so polite speaking her mind. So good for her.

AO Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

I don't even know why people are commenting on the VMAs...it was incredibly boring and lackluster for a 25th anniversary. There were no "stand-out" moments, and Brand was, well, bland as a host. Hopefully next year will be a little more exciting.

MTVSUCKS Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:10 PM EST

Let me say it for everyone who is thinking it anyway - MTV SUCKS. What was up with the format/stage - gas prices affecting the price tag to hold these awards?? MTV no longer has any significance in the music industry - Disney and American Idol seem to be creating the stars. These awards have no more meaning - where is the creative flair of videos of years past. MTV needs to be the creative force for it. If they don't care, then how can they expect us to?

COLE Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

The entire show was a disappointment. For it being the 25th anniversary one should expect so much more. It's sad to see over the years the amount of time spent on advertising instead of it being about the music.

Take that money and spend it on the artists that won in years past. The artists that not only sustained the station, but those that inspired all the people sitting in the audience. IT'S THE 25TH VMAs!!! I know they said it was all about the future but how many of those bands will be around in by the next election?

MTV blew it hard this time around.

bob loblaw Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

for a magazine about pop culture, it amazes me how conservative and uptight ew's readership really is. the comment sections are consistently annoying (and predictable), as they are often littered with exaggerated and ridiculous outcries made by the most sensitive people (did someone actually post a link to the FCC???).

are these the same people who enjoy reading a publication that reports on the latest trends in film, music, and tv (industries in which reinvention and shock value are often relied upon)? to me, the content and the apparent reaction just doesn't seem to correlate.

russell brand's performance was pretty funny. nothing special. one could even call it cliche. by now i'm sure everyone expects the comedian/host to say stuff as shocking as possible. it's old hat isn't it? he was just doing more of the same thing we've been seeing for years.

so no need for protests or petitions. just wait a few days and cool down. things will be OK. i promise.

jdfish Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

All the political comments were too easy but that wasn't the real problem. The real problem was that is looked entirely unprofessional like it was produced by a High School class and all the presenters seemed uncomfortable and no one seemed to know what to do. It was a mess.

fab Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:03 PM EST

Loved Brand..he's very funny!

enuffznuff Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:59 AM EST

the ORIGNAL MTV was out to offend people. push the envelope. MAKE MOM AND DAD SHAKE THEIR HEADS!!! not, get people commenting on how they "hate some 'faggie' (i can't BELIEVE someone that bigoted would actually POST something like that) british guy who 'made fun of poor sarah palin's daughter." PLEASE. if you think that was a low blow even for a comedian...then you don't know much about comedy.

...seriously i'm glad i was around when MTV still showed music and was CUTTING EDGE. cause it seems like CRAZY, right-wing, puritan, jerks are the only ones watching it anymore...

Memo to MTV: YOU ARE NOT NICKELODEN!
Memo to Parents of TEENY BOBBERS: MTV is vaccuous and teaches your kids BAD MORALS...it used to do that with awesome music, but now it does it with crappy reality shows (a long way off from their original 'real world') and even more worthless MELODRAMA's like 'the hills'.

At least with music, there was exposure to new ideas.

Sarah Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

Obv the reason why Russell Brand mentioned the JoBro's chastity rings over and over again is because he's just jealous that he himself can't get any JoBro lovin'...so he must vent about it to everyone else.

:P

Amy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:56 AM EST

I think it's pretty sad when we start idolizing reality TV actresses, I mean the Hills girls stars? Come on now.

Amy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:55 AM EST

Um... Can we say Brittney pr stunt? I mean that song was ok, but she really didn't deserve those awards over some of the other artists (even they were suprised). Also I agree the venue sucked, seemed like the budget was a little short this year.

sukiegirl Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

Russell Brand was so offensive my husband and I were so thankful we had DVR to fastforward through his ramblings. MTV is known for shocking the audience during award shows since anything gives with rock stars but come on now, this was pitiful. Good for you Jordan Sparks! At least someone had the courage to stand up to the idiot. I was also very disappointed in the show and performances. Even the heavyweights didn't do all taht great (well, a few were okay like Pink). This was the 25th anniversary. Come on MTV!! You should have had an amazing line up. Michael Jackson doing Thriller or Madonna doing Like A Virgin would have been awesome! Disappointment is about all I can say about last nights show. MTV you failed us all.

rachel Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

I am so offended by Russell Brand's comments that I stopped watching The Awards and VOW not to EVER watch again. I turned the channel to watch the 911 special. Maybe everyone needs to reflect back. Very sad...

rick Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:59 AM EST

tell me whats refreshing about him? Besides his ability to offend many people. His offending the other side gets you off?? I dont get it. Wow your a real person huh

rick Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

I agree with Kaliegh. I say us Americans boycott his upcoming movie and we will get the last laugh. He made me so angry I was yelling at the TV. And some people think he was amazing?? wow he sucks

Rebecca Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

I absolutely love Russell Brand - he is one of the most refreshing people we've seen in a long time. And if anybody wants to know what a yabbo is it's a meathead.

rick Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

The performers were good. If obama gets in we are done!!!!!!

A Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:39 AM EST

I found his comments about politics annoying. We know Hollywood is a bunch of stupid liberals but they can keep their opinions to themselves. Not everyone who watches MTV is a democrat, and the comments about Palin's daughter's pregnancy was pretty low even for a comedian.

Kai Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

I am so glad someone else noticed those bazillion Xtina "inspire" (wretch) commercials! I watched on Comcast cable and the commercial would play twice during every break!

enuffznuff Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

DIDN'T WATCH IT, don't care. MTV has gone steadily downhill since 1998. How many hours of music do you play again, MUSIC TELEVISION?

Heard a clip of the British guy, Russell Brand, on the radio and what he said about purity rings...TOTALLY FUNNY and a faint echo of some of the cool random humor that MTV USED to be famous for. Then some kid gets onstage and basically calls people who don't wear the rings sluts.

SLUTS. Seriously? what happened to the youth of America?

Russell Brand, i lost some respect for you when you went back and apologized. You shouldn't have backtracked just so you can appease some of the IDIOT kids who are riding the wave of the Jonas Bros. fad. by the way...at 21, 19, and 15, these guys are a little long in the tooth to be pulling this "we're still teenage puritans" act. it's kinda creepy.

MTV, you lost your way a long time ago.

Jackie Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:55 AM EST

Ugh, I mean See instead of She.

Jackie Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:54 AM EST

The show itself wasn't that great but...
Russell Brand is amazing. There isn't a word for his wonderfulness. She look had to make it up. Also Britnay is back. She had one foot in the ground and she looks like Britnay circa 2000.

Rainey Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:54 AM EST

How famous can that British dude if he has to tell you how famous he is? Leave him at home next time. My wife & I started watching & I'm surprised we left it on as long as we did before we finally changed the channel...15 min was our limit. Next year I'll skip the whole thing. MTV isn't at all what it used to be.

lola Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:53 AM EST

In English it may be spelled TOKYO but in German it's TOKIO. And since they're a German band who started out singing in German it isn't wrong AT ALL!! Maybe you should try and learn another language, oh wait a minute maybe you should start learning English first!

Alleykat Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:27 AM EST

Since we dragged Britan into this inane war, I think any Brits have as much right to be concerned with our politics as we do. We extend so much political influence over the world that OUR elections are global affairs. Stop being so defensive and be glad that this country protects YOUR right to an opinion as well as Russell Brand's.

Chandra Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:21 AM EST

That was the worst ever. I feel everyone should have a political stance but I feel that only AMERICANS who are able to vote should be able to comment not some Brit hack.

chefchicky Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 08:04 AM EST

Shocking, Shocking, Shocking! First thing out of my mouth was "where are all the people!?" It looked like a high school sports award show. And that must have been the budget. The one good thing I can say about the awards show was Miss Jordin Sparks standing up for the Jonahs brothers and giving all the teens watching it the reminder its o-k to wait. Unlike Russell Brands constant “Just Do It" propaganda. I know the economy is in the crapper but is MTV also? And what was with having some of the performers on during commercial breaks? Not that I am crying myself to sleep over not seeing Katy Perry singing about how she likes girls. But if you are going to have a performer on, and televise it for the world to see than make sure everyone can see it. The whole thing was a mess and who ever planned it needs to be fired. Ridiculous, it was like watching a car crash, you didn’t want to watch but you couldn’t pull yourself away from the horror...

Kyliegh Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:55 AM EST

I remember a time when Lil' Kim was walked out on stage in her Jail suit, when live animals were allowed on stage and preformers flew over the audience.
this years VMA's which were more hyped up than anyother year.....

SUCKED!
the host was terrible. the constant jabs at purity were enough to make me want to punch a hole through Russel Brands psychotic head speaking of psychotic heads his hair looks like he just stuck 75 paperclips in an outlet and stood there for an hour while shooting up. seriously. this was aweful. I am not impressed.

Better luck next year MTV, hopefully you get a decent host that has an american accent.

oh. I dont think the political comments would have bothered me that much but THE FREAKING GUY ISNT EVEN FROM AMERICA!...HE CANT EVEN VOTE HERE!...goodness...i could keep going on about how much last night made me want to dig out my eyes but I have someplace to be. I'll check in later.

Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:52 AM EST

There hasn't been a good VMA since 92!!! Yes I know I'm old!

Kosher Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:49 AM EST

That British dude made me change the channel after talking trash on Bush and America. With a hairdo like his; I wouldn't criticise anyone else!

JT Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:42 AM EST

Russell Brand and Jesse Camp had to have been separated at birth. Brand isn't even close to being funny. Nice how he reassured everyone how famous he is in Britain. Stay there.

Dee Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:29 AM EST

I don't think Slash was giggling at Linkin Park winning. I think he was happy a real rock band won instead of something stupid like Paramour. Why do people like that band? When I first heard them I thought it was another bad Ashlee Simpson song!

DisappointedMom Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 07:26 AM EST

My 14 year old and I planned to watch the entire VMA's this year as a family event. After the first 5 minutes of listening to Russell Brand's filthy and inappriate mouth, I had to turn it. It was not appropriate for 14 year olds to hear and what's funny is that teenagers are who keep these performers in business by buying their cd's and downloading their music on iTunes so one would think that MTV would hire a host that was more relative. And we couldn't find one American to host the VMA's?? While I do appreciate the bleeping of Russell's cursing, it was very obvious what he was saying. Anyway, I was really hoping, as was my 14 year old, to watch the entire show - maybe MTV will show a rerun of it without Russell Brand. He was very uncomfortable to watch. Next year it might be fun if you let the viewers vote on the host. Just a thought.

Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 06:23 AM EST

the vmas was smokin this y3ar nd brittany got skinni3r............

Josh R Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 05:36 AM EST

Once apon a time, us people in our older 20s remember a time when the VMAs were something to watch. You know what they are now? A glorified Nickelodeon teen choice awards. This show is soft, and filled with so much fluff and BS that its hardly watchable. Are they strictly aiming for an audience of 13 year olds these days? And yes folks, the host was horrible. I like good comedians. This guy was not funny.

Linda Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 04:47 AM EST

Russell is really STUPID MORON..
not funny at all..
Not a good host.. he thinks he is smart with his comment.. and his behaviour, cutting another person lines (Twilight Cast)
he is really a stupid person.

Summer Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:40 AM EST

This was the worst vmas I have ever seen. I agree that it was really horribly shot and a TON of mistakes. Horrible performances, the host wasn't funny, Britney won too many pity awards...ugggh MTV SUCKS ASS!

iggy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:09 AM EST

Epic fail its showing politics Propaganda. Camera angles and shots are bad bad bad
Demi moore skript was reflected on the back and u can read what shes reading
the dont Blame it on the Host either hes trying to cope with the Vrit humor well he lost ti when he was over on the freedome of speech then again he made a good closing the part where brit and Rod in the kart lets start a new life that made me laugh 1 point lol

ashley Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 02:18 AM EST

the vmas was crap the only thing that was good was that linkin park won best rock video!! that was all!!

AK Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 02:12 AM EST

Adrienne and Simon, hilarious job! But I have to say two things:

1. How you going to hate on Britney like that?

2. While Christina's two songs were both pretty hot, you failed to mention she was clearly li-synching!! WTF?! Isn't she supposed to be a "real singer"?

Jenna Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:33 AM EST

I am disgusted by Russell Brand and his promotion BOB especially when he is not even american, and on a awards show was ver innapropriate, but even more was promoting underage sex. MTV has ruined my views of them and should be ashamed.

erik Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:17 AM EST

I found Russel Brand really funny. At least he didn't play it safe. And for all those that say he has no right to talk about our politics, I would agree with that if the US hasn't been stomping all over the world getting other countries (including the UK) involved in our wars. Overall I think this VMA's was okay. And yes according to Jordin Sparks I'm a slut.

Andy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:13 AM EST

god MTV sucks - didn't think they could do worse than last year - boy they sure managed too - but I do have to admit - Russell Brand was HILARIOUS

Riley Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:09 AM EST

Kate Perry must be pissed haha she didn't win anything!! Ya at first when I saw X-tina thought it was Lady Gaga!! But I was really surprised by X-tina's new song, it was actually good!!

Will MTV Please Bring back the OLD Award show we all use to Love way back in the 80' and 90's?? The Award show use to be a Big Fun event and every year is just gets worse and worse!!! But Russell was great- loved his Bush Bashing!!

Matthew Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 01:05 AM EST

WOW..this years VMAs were ridiculous. That was the first time I've ever heard or seen Russell Brand, and hopefully the last time I will see him. The comments he made about Republicans and Palin's daughter were sick. That kind of mess shouldn't be said at an awards show for music. Taking a stab at someone here or there is one thing, but bashing Republicans for the first 5 minutes of the show was unnecessary. Freedom of speech is one thing, but what he did just stupid. MTV should be ashamed of the whole event. Will be the last VMAs I ever watch. Way to go MTV!!

Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:49 AM EST

guess what ? I know where you pooped last summer

MTV/FCC Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:49 AM EST

Please file a complaint if you were offended in any way by Russell Brand's comments.

FCC...FOLLOW THIS LINK http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

Sadboy Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:43 AM EST

So this is how MTV celebrates 25 years?! This show used to be an event. You didn't even have to like the performers to enjoy the fun and spectacle. Prince in ass-less pants, Kiss reunited, Madonna writhing on the floor, Britney and the snake, N Sync with tvs for heads, 200 Eminems and the list goes on. MTV used to play music and had a finger on the pulse of what we wanted to see. Now with their focus on reality television, they no longer understand what a great music show should look like. When Miley Cyrus playing video games and Britney Spears winning everything (for a song that PEAKED at #4 on MTVs own TRL chart)seems like the best way to celebrate 25 years, I think some rethinking is needed. C'mon MTV, how long do the fans need to beg for music before you listen. You promote this annual event like a jewel in the network's crown, but present it like an after thought. Thanks to Pink, Lupe Fiasco and Kanye for at least trying to bring the viewers a "show". Too bad MTV didn't also.

James Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:23 AM EST

Ooooh look at you guys go - name-dropping Nina Simone and Princess Mononoke AND commenting on "T.I.'s sheer lyrical dextrousness". I feel like such a slug.

Ace Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:21 AM EST

apparently if you're a celeb, you have the right to tell us about our government...and you don't even have to be an american! I think that part of the show and the followers who belive they earned that right was the comic relief of the night.

GP Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:15 AM EST

Host = stupid twit with an agenda. Get a life! Free speech is one thing, but using a platform to shove it down my throat is another. I just hope this generation isn't ignorant enough to fall for it!

fancypants Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:14 AM EST

the show was mediocre. SERENA WILLIAMS WINNING THE US OPEN was far more exciting!!!! goodnight to all.

Alleykat Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

Hooray for Brand! Hooray for actually daring to speak his mind! What was MTV thinking actually allowing FREEDOM OF SPEECH in AMERICA...in front of teenagers! OMG! Shock and Awe! I don't know what this world is coming to...

I guess I even have to allow Jordin Sparks her opinion that so many millions of us are (in her words) "sluts" because we don't own virgin promise rings or whatever. I think she's a great singer but now that I know what she really thinks of me I just can't support her anymore. :-(

Ace Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 12:01 AM EST

Oh God...we heard enough about Nobama already.

Znari Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:59 PM EST

The VMA's sucked this year. The BET awards were way better. What happened this year? The only good thing tonight was the shot out to Obama!

Ace Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:57 PM EST

That's it...I can't take this stupid Brit anymore! neither one!LOL...Benny Hill would slap the $H*t out of him...I'm watching Family Guy rerun's instead!!

Makela Pichler Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:54 PM EST

umm why do the VMAs suck so much?.. did they have no money to do anything?

ann Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

Tokio Hotel are from Germany. And Tokyo is spelled Tokio there. AND I'M SO HAPPY THEY WON!!!!!

patty Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:38 PM EST

if anyone looked close enough you can tell that was a christina double...not actually her at all! like he said everything is an illusion!

Robin Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:36 PM EST

MTV blew it with me. The end is near for the VMA's. That was a total horror show. Scammed is the way I feel. And why would you bring someone on to host from another country and then blatantly push politics. All you did was alienate half your audience.. idiots. I hope their political views were important enough to kill their show.

Ace Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:33 PM EST

yeah, stupid british!!!

VMA watcher Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

LL is on the money. Hilarious? When. He was simply not funny at all. And he wouldn't have backpedaled half way into the show if he didn't care what people thought. He went for the shock--and it will backfire. Watch and see. People may fight political battles among themselves, but in the end, most people still consider themselves Americans and will defend their country against some outspoken "celebrity" from the UK. Especially when he's not funny at all and advises Americans how to vote.

jujucusu Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:30 PM EST

The MOMENT that folish man (a.k.a. Host), started talking about masturbating--and bad jokes about it, and a moment later speaking politics, I changed the channel. I needed a break from the on going tv coverage about the canidates.
Luckly I turned back (I kept switching channels, when the Host was speaking I would switch, when he wasn't I'd stay) what a fantastic job Pink did. She is a professional. Kudos to our home boy Kid Rock too.

Ledonatella Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 11:29 PM EST

I don't get the love for Lil Wayne, he is such a no talent loser! To even put him in the same breath as Kanye and then say he would "save" Kid Rocks song is just wrong, Kid Rock would wipe the floors with that wannabe.
