For the uninitiated, phrases like The Strike Team, Biz-Lats, One-Niners and the Armenian Money Train will mean absolutely nothing -- and that's probably because you've wasted the last six years not obsessing over FX's gritty police drama The Shield! Luckily for you neophytes, we've got you covered: In preparation for the show's seventh and final season that begins Sept. 2, FX has pulled together the mother of all highlight reels that should tell you everything you need to know about how Det. Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) and his dirty band of brothers at the Farmington Precinct (Walt Goggins, you untamed devil, we adore you!) became the kind of crazy anti-heroes only a hardcore Shield devotee could love. And for those of you who already love The Shield, once you've watched this fast and furious recap, post your own favorite scenes from the show in the comments section below!

Bonus: After the jump, get reaction on the initial episodes of The Shield's upcoming season from EW critics Ken Tucker and Gillian Flynn; their freewheeling conversation is part of EW's extensive coverage of the 2008 fall TV season. Enjoy!

i think it will end kinda the same way the sopranos did.

The Shield so ROCKS! And it started the final season out so HOT! Loved Shane's comment about "footloose and fancy free" after the cops find the dead Armenian after he'd amputated the guy's feet. Sick but so funny.

The greatest TV show of all time no question! An amazing story that is so well written. Gritty, brutal yet hilarious in places and acting that is just off the scale (Walt Goggins - legend!). Where to start with favourites scenes? Vic killing Terry, Dutch crying after catching the serial killer, Connie abandoning her son, Vic's breakdown at the end of season 1, the end of season 2, Shane & Tavon (brutal!), Dutch & The Cuddler, Shane begging for vics help with Antwon, Claudette & Kleavon, Lem going on the run ("Disarm" anyone?) Shane & Lem (still hurts now!), Vic torturing Guardo, Vic confronting shane. I could literally go on forever! These are just a few classic scenes in a show that is jam packed full of them. Special mention to the musical montages they have done throughout the series which never fail to get me! Thoroughly deserves to go out on its own terms despite the heartbreak it is going to cause me when it finishes. Shawn Ryan & Co....I thank you and I salute you!

Absolutely superb series, utterly believable and credits the viewer with intelligence. The dialogue and action are equally intense and just leaves you panting for more.
Favourite storylines are the power-play between the politically correct Police chief and the reality of law enforcement on the street.
The power-play between Aceveda and Vic Mackey is brilliantly portrayed. They hate each other but they need each other and, in a strange way, they have a loyalty to each other.
How will it end between them? My guess: Aceveda will be promoted to the next level and ON HIS RECOMMENDATION, Mackey will end up as Captain of the Barn.
Oh come on! That's the perfect ending.

The best show on TV for the last six years. I was surprised in the first episode this year that Ronnie killed a guy in cold blood; I suspect he'll be moving to the "dark side"....

Man, how I am heartbroken that this is the last season. I truly hope when its all said and done, Vic will throw the badge down and walk away in the sunset. I doubt that will happen as it will be less dramatic, if he were to get killed or go to jail. My hunch tells me, Ronnie is going to either kill him or set him up to be killed, and vic is not going to know it until its too late. Still miss Lem.

When all of them are standing around the empty pool, filled with Armenian Money Train loot, where suddenly, after so much shite has gone wrong, it seems if for once, something truly has gone right and will allow them to ascend in their personal lives.

Too many good scenes to name, but I do know the FUNNIEST Shield scene ever: Dutch caught singing "Hungry Like a Wolf" on hidden camera!

Carrie Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

I loved the scene where Lem freaked out about the Armenian Money Train money and started burning up the cash. Any scene with Shane in it is bound to be intense. My favorite is definitely the hardcore fight between he and Tavon. Also loved the last scene with him & Lem.

And this isn't a scene from the show but, if you've seen the roundtable dicussion vids that FX has up on the site, Walton Goggins talks about Shane and he says, "I hate the guy and I love the guy," and you can totally hear the emotion in his voice. It's true for me, too. I love Shane & I hate Shane. I think the only way it can end for him is for him to die (and he deserves it) but man, it's going to break my heart.

best scene of all time - season one when Vic had to beat up the friend/CI/hooker/user after she had been punked by a "john." HEARTBREAKING! THAT was the scene that won Michael Chiklas his emmy that year. AMAZING.

The Shield cannot hold a candle to The Wire but it is definitely a great show. The Wire is a totally different show as compared to The Shield...

Luke Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

Definitly the greatest show of all time. I tried watching The Wire but kept comparing it to The Shield, and it doesnt. Scenes: Final scenes of season 2 finaly to Live's 'Overcome'. Also the scene where dutch and claudette find the little girl with the tatoo on her cheek.

VicRattleheadTX Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

Todd: hahaha... "grilling skills." That was a classic scene. Vic to Armadillo: "Pack up your $h!t and take the next donkey back to Mexico!"

VicRattleheadTX Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 12:03 PM EST

One of the best scenes, not only of the Shield but of TV shows PERIOD was the fight between Shane and Tavon in Season 3. That was the most realistic fight ever, and that goes for Movies too. No over-dramatic roundhouses and haymakers... just a sloppy, violent and aggressive fight that looked SO real. i can name about 1,000 others... but this one jumps out at me the most. (My #2 would HAVE to be the scene where Acevedo gets Face Raped. Very edgy, gritty and uncomfortable to watch.)

Angie Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 09:36 AM EST

I positively worship The Sheild. The Armenian money train and the Antwon story lines were my faves. And after watching the scene where Dutch killed the cat on his front porch, I got chills all over again. Jay Karnes is a genius. I love what he does with the Dutch character.

Laura P. Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 09:54 PM EST

I have loved this show since my jaw hit the floor when Vic shot Terry in the first episode. I knew this was going to be different. I have been enthralled by the stories and the actors who inhabited these characters. Thank you to all those who brought The Shield to our TV screens!

TJ Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

Love me some Vic and Shane. One of the best shows on TV,it's like losing your best friends when your fave shows are cancelled. I look forward to(and dread)the Vic/Shane smackdown. As long as Vic doesn't bust up "Smiley's" pretty face!!

Romey Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

The Sheild is the best show ever made. It keeps the viewer on the edge of there seat with the thrills and fast moving action. Give us one more season..Please....

Jenny Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

Yeah! So happy to have the Shield back. My favorite scenes are the confrontations between Shane and Vic. Walton Goggins is the man!

Tom Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

I liked:
Dutch outsmarting the serial killer in season 1.
Anything with Antwon Mitchell.
Shane and Lem's final scene together

Todd Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

Favorite cringeworthy scene: Vic showing his grilling skills to Armadillo.

Denise Mallery Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:21 PM EST

My husband and I LOVE The Shield! I am heartbroken that it has to come to an end! ALL of the actors were phenomenal! I love Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis)! We can not wait for Tues. 9/2/08! We will be ready to rock and roll!!! Rock on! Long Live The Shield! Peace out!

Jay Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 07:51 AM EST

I don't think I can handle this. The thought of no longer seeing the strike team? Especially Vic Mackey? Two heartbreaks in a year (wire and shield)?

Favorite moments:

Anytime Vic tries to cover his behind whenever a witness who can rat on him is in the interrogation room.

Any scene with Lem (of course not including his demise)

Vic getting back at Kavanaugh by sleeping with his wife.

I cannot wait for the final showdown between Shane and Vic.
