Snap Judgment: First chapter of 'Midnight Sun'

Twilight_l_2 If you, like me, flew through the 768-page behemoth that is Breaking Dawn during the wee morning hours following its release, you probably have little left to temper your Cullen cravings until the big screen version of Twilight hits theaters November 21 (thank you, Harry Potter). Which is all the more reason I was so psyched to stumble upon the first chapter of Stephenie Meyer's next book, Midnight Sun.

As any die-hard Twilighter can tell you, Midnight Sun is a retelling of the saga's first book through the eyes of hunky vampire Edward Cullen. Meyer recently told EW.com that she's 12 chapters into the novel, which Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke and star Robert Pattinson (pictured, with costar Kristen Stewart) used to help flesh out Edward's persona in the film. I've gotta say, as much as I love the original Twilight story, I think I'm even more in love with the tale from Edward's darker point of view.

But I shouldn't call it simply Edward's perspective, because as you know, the vamp's ability to read other people's thoughts provides easy access to everyone's inner workings. We're not only privy to Edward's intense (and I mean INTENSE) struggle to not eat Bella, but we get a peek into the minds of the mysterious Cullens -- from Jasper's naughty yearning to devour a classmate in the cafeteria to Alice's ongoing worries about her partner's vegetarian fidelity. Edward's voice in the novel is not only more nuanced and mature than high-strung Bella's (perhaps his 107 years has something to do with that), but we get the added bonus of avoiding all the smoldering eyes/icy-cold granite-body talk.

What say you, PopWatchers? Have you had a chance to peruse the first chapter of Midnight Sun? Do you prefer the Twilight story from Bella's or Edward's perspective? Which scenes are you dying to see through Edward's eyes? (I'm stoked for the fight scene!)

omfg i love it

maggiemarmalade Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Oh I _definitely_ prefer Midnight Sun over Twilight. Basically, as SM herself admitted, not much is going on in the first 150 pages of Twilight except that Bella is all "WTF is wrong with this cute guy?" Edward, on the other hand, is the one with real conflict and struggle - and we just hear about it after it's more or less over. Bella has little conflict - she wants to bone Edward and that's all there is; Edward wants to EAT her, but he can't.

Also, I'm sort of sad to admit - Twilight smacks a little of a Mary Sue fanfic, while Midnight Sun is from a point of view that no girl can directly identify with, even SM.

ummmmm. so my step dad just told me that jacob killed bella in midnight sun and i know he is one to say crap like that to piss me off so if you've read the first 12 tell me

crismeister Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

I really did love the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun, I wish we could have read the Meadow chapter to know how he felt just before he was about to physically reveal himself and what his first kiss with Bella would have felt like to him. However I don't think we as fans would have wanted to read the stroy from Edward's point of view without reading Bella's view in Twilight first. This is because the books from Bella's point of view make you fall in love with Edward because she's the girl who's in love with him. If we never fell in love with his character, would we really have wanted to read the story from his point of view? He doesn't see himself in the way Bella does and what intrigues readers the most is the beautiful Cullen family from a human perspective. I think Midnight Sun only works with the Twilight books out there, and I have to say I prefer the twilight books, however it is really interesting to see what everyone else is thinking and most importantly Edward's thoughts.

Ashley Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

ohh geez.
midnight sun is great. the way meyers portrays Edwards constant struggle against not killing bella is unbvelievable. right now im re-reading twilight and midnight sun at the same time. it is entertaining to look at it from bella's side them go on the computer and read edwards side and compare. i would recomend to do this. anyways on her official website it says that she is planning on finishing it and she will start writing it again after she is done with all the drama of the releases of the host and of breaking dawn. so that means she should be writing it now. yay!

Kris Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 07:25 AM EST

I find it very interesting that a father who wants to wait a few more years "before I insist more firmly on her reading books of some substance"... books of substance? Have you heard of Wuthering Heights? It's considered one of the greatest books of all time and if you think Bella has issues. Wait till you meet Catherine.... now there's a girl with issues. Sounds like more uneducated prattling from the "ohh it's popular-I have to be different" group. How sad.
Working as a librarian and being a bibliophile myself, nothing makes me happier than seeing people, especially young ones, fall in love with books. Choosing to remove their noses from video games and other media to sit down and read. Yes read! We have an epidemic going on in this country and it is a lack of reading. I grew up with parents who encouraged me to read, even if they didn't always understand what the attraction to a certain genre was (think Mercedes Lackey) and it, dear sir, has made all the difference.

penguin Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

stepheniemeyer.com under series and then midnight sun.

Jessa Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:06 PM EST

omg please i cant freakin find the chapters on here so if anybody has it email it to me slipknot_freak1311@yahoo.com

Norma Sat, Oct 4, 2008 at 05:46 AM EST

I'm agreeing with Adrian here: no more overblown spewing from this gloriously untalented writer? Great! As for the blinkered rest of you: can't you see what's going on here? It's a publicity stunt, pure and simple. SHE leaked the chapters so that her fatuous teenage fanbase (that's you, kids) would grovel and shower her with praise when she-- sigh! gasp!-- simply couldn't carry on. Can we say "shameless ploy," people...?

Cassie Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

I read the first chapter and then I read that someone put out the first 12 chapters and that she was stopping Midnight sun and my cousin read the first 12 chapters. I was just wondering where the 12 chapters r at?

Jen Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 06:11 PM EST

Oh, this Twilight mom so hopes Ms. Meyer picks up her Midnight Sun pen again someday. It really is a great read and I do think I may love it more than Bella's version!

Christine Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

I also read the excerpt from Midnight Sun and loved every word of it. I was hoping she would get around to finishing it and write the other books this way also. I want to read New Moon through Edwards perspective. Oh and the scene I want to read from Twilight would be the Meadow scene and the part where Edward gets off the plane and Bella has escaped. I want to know what he was feeling at that very moment! Sooo intense!

Erin Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 01:56 PM EST

I loved the version from Edwards point of view. When I finished reading Twilight I had so many unanswered questions but after reading Midnight Sun everything fell into place.

mindy Wed, Sep 24, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

I sincerely hope that Ms. Meyer continues to share the Twilight saga from Edward's p.o.v. His story is substantially more compelling than Bella's. Am in agreement with Deb, too: the maturity level with Edward's perspective does help ease the slight feeling of embarassment from being a 40-yr-old fan of the series. Ms. Meyer has a clever imagination and I thought the series improved as it went along. Sure hope she continues to hone her talent by turning out more adult themed fantasy/horror/romance in the future.

Sid Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

Go onto Stephanie Meyers official site and you can read all 264 pages of Midnight Sun, it isn't complete but it is by far better than Twilight, because we do get to hear all that Edward hears, and well he gets to hear some really funny stuff from Jessica,Mikes and Alice (she is so witty!) minds....LOL
I do hope she finishes it, I know I will be first in line when/if it gets released.

jena Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 09:16 PM EST

i have heard a lot about it and i relly want to read it so someome please email it to me goncalves.janina@yahoo.com

Ashley Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

I absolutely LOVED the first chapter! I think it added so much more dimension to the story, and it was good to finally understand Edwards perspective, rather than just from Bella's side. I hope Stephenie Meyer will continue to write the novel!

MaryUtah Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

I am one of those that ate up anything Twilight related, including the first chapter of MS on Meyers page - and when it was posted on her site, read the 12 leaked chapters and wow - though Twilight has been my favorite all along, MS could very well replace it - I LOVE, LOVE the story from Edward's perspective and I LOVE knowing more about the Cullens - since that family dynamic is so intriguing to me!
I hope that Stephenie is able to take some time off, get to spend time with her family and eventually return to MS because it's too good to just let slip away.

lacey Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

i love the books. and to the father who posted about not wanting his daughter to end up like bella.

1. fictional character
2. its not her being spineless or codependent or silly and adsurd.

its a story of two people needing one another absolutly, not as a crutch, but to make them whole. true love. duh.

-- he makes her strong, she makes him human.

LHS Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

I read the Midnight Sun chapters after reading the others, and I was absolutely *dazzled* by it. Amazing. It nearly killed me when I got to the end and realized there was no more. I pray that Stephenie Meyer changes her mind and finishes and publishes Midnight Sun. I'll be first in line to buy it!

Raven Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 09:36 AM EST

PS. Steph Meyer, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE keep writing Midnight Sun!

Raven Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 09:34 AM EST

Midnight Sun has me enthralled already. I think reading from Edward's obsessive, intense point of view is so much more captivating than reading from Bella's. Edward's actions and behaviour are such a mystery in Twilight; it's almost a relief to finally understand why he acted the way he did. I had no idea so much went through his head! ILOVEEDWARDCULLEN. Edward, be mine.

Adrian Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 12:50 AM EST

Oh fantastic news! No more crap from this very, very silly writer. I'm the 46 year old father of a 13 year old girl and I hope to God that my daughter will never develop into anything remotely similar to Meyer's main character Bella. I read the first book in the series and found it profoundly cheesy and poorly written. But I was OK with my daughter reading it since the story seemed fairly harmless. I also felt that I should give her a few more years before I insist more firmly on her reading books of some substance. However, I began to fume after reading books 2 and 3 of the series, which little by little establish the most spineless, clueless, and codependent young female character I have ever experienced. And again I let it go because I didn't want her to see me as the censoring father. Well, after book 4 I had to have a serious and embarrassing talk with my daughter courtesy of S. Meyer - but mind you, not the dreaded "sex talk" - you know, the talk about abusive sex, sexual manipul

redken_stylist Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

I agree with some other the other posts. I would love to read Twilight from Edward's perspective. I'm extremely pissed off someone leaked the partial draft of Midnight Sun. Per her website, Stephanie Meyer has said, "I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely." So, thank you so-o-o-o- much to whomever let it out! I hope in time, she'll change her mind and complete the book. There are lots of loyal fans who would sincerely like to read it in its entirety.

Reghan Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 05:42 PM EST

I love the twilight series i love Edward he is amazing he is officially my new favorite vampire and stephanie meyer is my favorite authorr

shell Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:42 PM EST

I actually liked Breaking Dawn better than Twilight and I absolutely adored Twilight. I was thrilled that the book looked at it from more than just Bella's limited perspective. I was shocked to hear of the outcry by many of Stephenie's fans who felt betrayed or thought there were scenes which were too gruesome. The scene in Twilight where Bella gets tromped on by James was out and out gruesome and it was SUPPOSED TO BE. We were SUPPOSED to be horrified by what was happening. What I'm really peed off about is that it looks as if, by the trailer, that particular scene has been totally modified to be less horrific and that totally turned me off.
I personally like the fact that Jacob finally made it into Bella's "family" and I'm hoping another book will eventually come out which will delve further into that relationship and the family's (wolf & vampire) reactions to it.

Cat Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

I would really like for Stephenie to speak about her plans. It has been what a few weeks now since her partial draft was posted to her website and she has had some time to think it through. There has been an enormous outcry for Midnight Sun to be published.....Obviously, everyone loves the Series including Midnight Sun. I WANT TO HEAR FROM HER. What is the plan. I would agree that I think it would make the most sense for her to publish while the hype is there.

Deb Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

After devouring the Twilight series in 10 days, I was thrilled to see the Midnight Sun version. The mature viewpoint from Edward made this 51 year old feel not so silly for reading a high school love story.

Ana Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 12:08 PM EST

OME! LOL I had to use that. Well, I've read the partial draft twice already, I know it's sick, but I LOVE IT. Hoping and praying that Stephenie will continue this novel, I want the scene of the meadow. I want to know what he's thinking during that first kiss when Bella's teenage hormones take over and she just wants ALL of him. I want to know if he's having that same hormonal drive or is the urge to drink her blood get stronger. All of the kissing scenes I really want to read it through Edward's percpective. Oh! Also, when he takes Bella to meet the rest of the Cullens, I'm dying to know what HE'S thinking. And can I just say that this Midnight Sun has made just LOVE Alice WAY MORE. OMG! I adore her, and I just love the part when she tells Edward that she's going to love Bella too. LOL! I love my little pixie! Also, how she keeps insisting to meet Bella, it's just adorable!

Kari Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 10:59 PM EST

Please please please please please, Stephanie!! Please write "Midnight Sun"!!! I was so shocked when I heard that you weren't going to write it!! I was so happy that you were continuing the series, and I am just as shocked as you are about the scandal. I want you to know that you have fans out here who still support you and we absolutely love your books!! Please keep on writing "Midnight Sun"!!! Please!! For your fans, because we love you!! Please please please please please!!! You are an amazing author, and it would be a sad thing if you didn't finish your series. Please consider it, for your fans. Thanks for your awesome books!! We love you!!

me Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 03:48 PM EST

Love Love Love all of the Twilight Series. They are so compelling that I cannot help but read them over and over. I loved Twilight but after reading the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun, I think I do like it more. It is overwhelming to read about a love like Edwards. I would love to read the meadow scene from Edwards point of view and also his thoughts when he gets off of the plane and discovers Bella gone! I think it would also be amazing to have a "Edward" side companion for Breaking Dawn. It would be equally as compelling as Midnight Sun I am sure. I find myself frequently wondering about Renesmee's life and look forward to that someday. I am confident that Stephenie Meyer will continue to finish Midnight Sun. I can't imagine she would disappoint her fans but please if she would hurry up about it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Izzie Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

I love what Stephanie's written so far of Midnight Sun. I really hope she finishes it. It brings Edward into a whole new light, it makes the other books that much better when you realize why he acts the way he does.

Vicki Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

I've read the beginning of midnight sun and can't wait to read the rest. I loved Twilight, but Bella isn't my favorite heroine. I'd love to learn more about the Cullen's from another perspective.

Taylor Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

i would read midnight sun but i think it would be better if she kept writing on bellas thoughts because i thought all her books were amazing. Honestly i just want another twilight book to read really bad

mimi Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 08:43 AM EST

i'm not saying i'm not going to read it when it comes out, but isn't this just a really good way for her to hype up this book before it gets released? after the last one, which wasn't as good, it's understandable she would be worried. or maybe it's not her, but her publisher. either way, this seems like a good way to ensure that the fans will come back for this one...

Erin Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

I think it would be really cool if she did a companion novel to New Moon as well. To see what Edward was thinking/feeling the whole time he was gone and what went on in his when he thought Bella had died... that would be awesome!

Brooke Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

I loved Midnight Sun, I didnt know if I would after reading just the first chapter but I was wrong! Every chapter got better and better, It may be "in my opinion" the best peice of the Twilight Saga. PLEASE! Stephenie, Please finish the book, take it as far as you can. Reading from this perspective is an entirely different experience, I cant wait to hear the meadow scene, or the first kiss or the ballet scene...

Cullengirl Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 03:51 AM EST

I loved midnight sun and after reading it I don't know how I ever understood any of Twilight. Midnight Sun is so addictive and I honestly don't know what ill do if Stephenie doesn't write the rest of the book, its fantastic.

Ryan Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

I breezed right through what there is of Midnight Sun. I really like hearing the same story from Edward's POV. I really hope she finishes this book because it just might be the best one of all the Twilight books.

Julia Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 06:00 PM EST

I will patiently wait for "Midnight Sun"! I was heartbroken when Stephenie Meyer decided to step back and put it on hold indefinately. But I now truly have a better understanding of Edward and could understand his motivations in "Breaking Dawn" even more so. Stephenie Meyer needs time, respect and support from her loyal fans. The world of the Cullen vampires has many mysteries that we all would love to get glimpses of in the future!

Elisa Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 05:47 PM EST

STEPHANIE MEYER PLEASE!! I've been wating for midnight sun for suh a long time. for some losers doesnt mean that we all have to suffer. Please, go on and publish the book!
Dont ruin it forall of us! Please Stephanie Meyer, we love you!♥

Kate Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 08:08 PM EST

I finished Twilight this morning. I'd never heard of Stephenie Meyer/Twilight till I ordered the book last week randomly. I was blown away by the intensity of the book, I often struggled to catch my breath while reading and struggled putting it down. Then I came online to find out more (a film - yay!) and this :( How awful for Stephenie. I downloaded what she has posted of Midnight Sun and again I struggle to catch my breath while reading it. Having only just read Twilight I wondered how it would feel reading the same story again (but I really couldn't get enough!). Reading Edwards side fills in so many blanks... it was amazing to have that insight and made the story even more enchanting. I truly hope Stephenie will finish the story when she feels the time is right. Even if she doesn't fair play for posting what she has done online. Roll on the film!!! And I still have the other 3 books to read this week :D

christine Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 09:11 AM EST

i have not read the chapters on the internet i still faith that you will publish it . I really really want to read the book from edwards point of view.I am begging you stepinie meyer plese publish the book . can't you see how many fans want you to ? just PLEASE finish the book !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nashi Sat, Sep 6, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Stephenie Meyer hear your fans we are all begging and waiting to know exactly everything that goes inside the sexy edwards mind. Edward deserves a chance to tell his story just like jacob and bella. You are crushing millions of fans hopes if you dont finish the book. everyone is hopin that you do and that u publish it. so dont punish us all for the mistake of someone letting it leak. please please please try to reconsider...

lauren Sat, Sep 6, 2008 at 08:11 PM EST

STEPHANIE MEYER LISTEN TO ME. WHAT EVER SCUM PUT UP THE FIRST CHAPTERS OF YOUR UNBELIEVEABLE BOOK IS NOT WORTH DISSAPPOINTING THOUSANDS OF FANS. CHECK ALL THE COMMENTS EVERYWHERE! PEOPLE ARE DYING TO READ YOUR BOOKS. IT INSPIRES PEOPLE TO FIND LOVE AND OPEN UP TO FRIENDSHIP AND SHOWS PEOPLE IT IS OKAY NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE! WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU WHATEVER WAY YOU GO. WETHER ITS NOT FINISHING OR TO KEEP GOING. I WOULD PERSONAL RATHER YOU KEEP GOING. BECAUSE WHEN I READ YOUR SIDE OF THE STORY ON YOUR WEBSITE MY HEART BROKE LIKE WHEN EDWARD THOUGHT BELLA HAD DIED. i DON'T WANT TO FEEL LIKE THAT AND I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY FAN WHO FEELS THIS WAY ABOUT IT TOO. WE ALL WANT A FAMILT THAT LOVES US LIKE THE CULLENS, A FATHER CARING LIKE CHARLIE, A SISTER LIKE ALICE, A BIG FUNNY BROTHER LIKE EMMMET, A STRONG BROTHER LIKE JASPER, A WARM ESME, A CARING CARLISLE, EVEN A DRAMATIC RUDE SNOB LIKE ROSALIE, A BEST FRIEND THAT LOVES US LIKE JACOB, AND A PERSON THAT YOU DESPERATLY LOVE LIKE EDWARD. please

Twilight Freak Sat, Sep 6, 2008 at 08:00 PM EST

I really don't know if anybody will hate me for saying this but why doesn't she just put the rest of the chapters on the internet that way people won't buy the book and read only half of it. It seems reasonable enough to me. I wouldn't buy it, i would just get it loaned from my friend who buys all of the books only a week after they are out.

Twilight Freak Sat, Sep 6, 2008 at 07:27 PM EST

OMG she put the first twelve chapters on her website since it was already leaked and I read all of it. It is really cool. You do not know how much he had to resist to be with her.
I really really really hope Stephanie Meyer publishes it. It has a more emotional struggle from Edward's point of view than from Bella's.

Melissa Sat, Sep 6, 2008 at 06:20 PM EST

Please, please Stephenie listen to us and hear us all beg for you to complete Midnight Sun!!!!

Please also consider writing about Edward before Bella as one here wrote. It would be so nice to read about Edward and his before his illness and his start of his new life.

Please hear us all beg for Midnight Sun. I know many of us will buy three books and make it one of the best selling books of all time...I promise!

Stephnie meyer NEEDS to finish Midnight sun!!! I just finish reading 12 chapters of it and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! It would be heart-breaking to not finish a story once you write it.Especially if it's Midnight Sun. It's just not fair!Especially since chapter twelve makes you desperate to finish the rest. Amber Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 07:30 PM EST

Please finish Midnight Sun.
I WILL wait in anticipation for Midnight Sun, even more so now that I have read the first chapters. I WILL buy two, just so I don't have to fight with my husband over who reads it first. And I WILL only refer to you as Goddess Stephenie Meyer from now on. Please. Please?
I have never read an entire four book series in a week and then picked up the first book to read it again, but Bella and Edward and Jacob and Alice and Emmett and Jas.. well lets say everyone... are fantastic and I can't seem to go back to life before them. Midnight Sun is and will be a wondrous, fantastical, must-have book. I feel lucky to have read the chapters I did, because I understand my favorite Forks folk better and I love them that much more. I am not a writer and I don't understand what you are going through right now, but I hope you can soar over this hurdle in the road and allow Edward to finish his story. BTW You must be a goddess to hold the key to Edward's story.Hmmm

Johanna Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 06:51 PM EST

Please finish the book! Don't punish the fans for it cause we are not the ones that leaked it out onto the internet in the first place! I liked the first chapter! Getting to know Edward more and getting to learn more about the other characters through him. Learn more about his family! Alice worrying about Jasper. Learn more about what is going on behind the scenes of Jessica and Mike etc. I started to like this version even better then the original Twilight just from the first chapter.
I know that Stephanie Meyers trusted the other 12 chapters to someone and it was leaked. Makes me mad but I also don't want to get mad at her too for saying she is not going to finish it. So giving up is better? Leave us all hanging? That does make me mad though. I mean I support her and her books but this makes me second guess. Stuff gets leaked and copied all the time on line. JK Rowling had it happen and did she stop writing? NO! Come on Stephanie you HAVE to finish the book for your fans!

Jenna Meyer Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 05:06 PM EST

Please finish Midnight Sun. Believe it or not, I had not heard anything about the Twilight Saga until seven days ago. My mother (62 years old) shared her copy of Twilight with me and I was hooked. I finished the fourth book on Labor day (just 7 days later). While the story felt complete, I was not ready to leave that world behind. I seached the internet on Labor Day (2 days ago) after hearing rumors about Midnight Sun. I was completely horrified at what had happened and equally horrified at the prospects that Midnight Sun could be scrapped. I went ahead and read Stephenie's release of the draft of the first 12 chapters. I trully believe that I could hear this entire tale again, through Edwards intense eyes. I have gotten my own copies of this saga to begin reading again, hoping that this will feel the void I currently share with thousands of readers. I hope that Stephenie will be able to find her way back to this book. I will be counting the days.

SarahStoner420 Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

Midnight Sun should be finished! Many people are so disappointed that it is postponed (especially after 12 chapters have been completed). I personaly wanted to understand Edward better. See what makes him tick...why he acts the way he does. How living (sort of) for more than a century affects him. How strong that urge Bella gives him truly is. And by reading Midnight Sun we would not only understand him better but all the other characters (besides Bella of course) as well. I actually ran across the first chapter of Midnight Sun but decided not to read any part of it till the book came out. Now I feel like I should go back the the web page to read it so I could at least get a TASTE of how good the book would really be. I am truly disappointed in Stephanie Meyer's decision. She apparently loves writing and we love her books. She should be able to step past this and continue her story, doing the thing she loves most to do.

FanForever Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

Steph,
Please!!! I'm begging you! Please continue to write the book! I know I sound like all the other obsessed twilighters, but we are ALL so in love with it!!!!
I think it can actually be better than Twilight itself =O who would have thought that it was possible?!
But now that bella swan has already made us fall in love with edward-*sigh*- and the other caracters, it would be just amazing to know MORE! I'm an addict. No joke.
You can't let the leak rule you out. I'm pretty sure all of us would pay $50 for the book (but please, don't make it that price!)
You've got an amazing story.
Please. Please! PLEASE!!!... please?

ggigiryqy Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 05:18 PM EST

I really like Midnight Sun. I hope Stephenie continuous the book.

Jennifer Miner Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

I was very disappointed that Stephanie decided that she would rather not write Midnight Sun because of this leak. The world fell in love with Edward and I think that this book would have been a favorite among the collection. ALL FOUR books brought many sleepness nights to me and my daughter as we read them over and over never getting our fill. We are very sadden and we continue to have hope that one day we WILL be able to stand in line for our copy of Midnight Sun. 12 chapters just isn't enough and regardless of how many have read those chapters the book is still eagerly anticipated. We love you Stephanie, from one LDS mother of four, I can understand your exhaustion and frustration, but please don't say never. Give yourself time, be with your family, and when the time is right you'll know. I believe that you want it just as much as the rest of us do.

Audrey Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 05:39 PM EST

please please please stephanie, please finish midnight sun i am so obsessed with this book and it would be a total let down if you didnt finish it! please! you have been like my hero ever since you wrote that book please dont let your fans down! i really want to read that book! well please keep writing!

mahwish Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

Kristin Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 09:15 PM EST

OK so i just have to say that i am mentaly pained to not be able to finish Midnight Sun and i need it now. I have read each of the twilight books at least 10 times each and i am dying to have Midnight Sun. If Stephanie doesnt start it again i dont know what i will do. right now i am literaly depressed that i cant finish i have read the draft many times and i cant even sleep i want the rest so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kelcouch Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 08:34 PM EST

I can understand that Stephanie is upset that Midnight Sun was released in a draft form.. that she hadn't finished working on it. After reading the pages that were leaked I have to say that Midnight Sun was shaping up to be my favourite of the Twilight Series. It was so nice to 'hear' Edward's 'voice' in my head again.. I'd missed him!

I'm prepared to beg Stephanie to finish Midnight Sun.. why should the fans suffer because of the stupidity of one person that leaked it to the internet?

Please Stephanie finish Midnight Sun and make it sooner rather than later.. your fan's are waiting, please don't let us down...

Raven_Moon Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

I'm so fraking depressed about the "Midnight Sun" news. I've been excited about this book for so long. I very much hope Stephanie changes her mind & finishes (and publishes)the book. It's so unfair to the fans who don't try to spoil things for other people.

Lily Iserson Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

Oh my goodness PLEASE FINISH THE BOOK STEPHANIE!!! I read the draft (which I thought was excellent) and Bella and Edward didn't even kiss yet! Man I want to KILL those jerks who did it to SM, whether it was intentional or not!

Lily Iserson Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

Oh my goodness PLEASE FINISH THE BOOK STEPHANIE!!! I read the draft (which I thought was excellent) and Bella and Edward didn't even kiss yet! Man I want to KILL thos jerks who did it to SM, whether it was intentional or not!

Katie Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 12:29 AM EST

I too am disappointed, shocked and saddened! I was really looking forward to reading Midnight Sun. I can't believe someone would do that to SM and also ruin it for the rest of us! So... even though SM recommended NOT reading the MS draft, I couldn't help myself. I must say I was very impressed; yet I was hooked from the first teaser chapter long before. It makes the love story between Bella and Edward so much more intense! SM is so creative and writes the best love stories by far! However... the story doesn't end and I am craving more! This is a difficult time for SM and my thoughts are with her. And, I am hopeful that her fans will pull her through this. Also, I am hoping that when things settle and she can find some peace, maybe just maybe she will be able to finish MS and publish it. She deserves to have this success and to be rightfully compensated for it! Please Stephenie... finish the book :)

Tracy Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 10:17 PM EST

Stephenie Meyers did comment on the MS leak on her website. Yes, I did start reading it and I am really hoping she decides to finish it. It's interesting to read Edward's pov, and read about his insecurites while he's deciding on what his feelings are towards Bella. This is a rough draft but I am still enjoying it. As usual, there are those who just love to have their negative comments on SM. If you don't enjoy her writing style, then why read the books? The entire Twilght series was amazing. Breaking Dawn was probably one of my favorites because Edward and Bella evolved and matured, finally moving past high school mode. Their love for each other deepened - no more doubts or insecurites. Anyway, I am sure she will at least finish the book for herself, hopefully she will not let a few malicious people decide our fate. Her fans do want the book!

Meghan Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

Please people don't read the leaked version of Midnight Sun!!!! She doesn't want u 2 read it!!! and maybe if she knows alot of people r willing to wait 4 it then she might continue 2 write it!! Don't read it tell it comes out even though it is incredibly tempting. : ( : ( : (

Nicci Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 10:05 PM EST

I spent the afternoon reading the first 12 chapters, and I have to say I will be really disappointed if Meyer does decide to put MS on hold permanently. I am the kind of person who loves my home library and will read and re-read my favorite books over and over. There is something transcendental about holding a hardback book, curled up on the sofa escaping into other worlds.
After reading chapter one two weeks ago, I knew this version of the story would be the best. I'm saddened by the actions the people responsible for the leak and how this will effect the true fans out in the world.
While I was excited to read Edward's version of Twilight, I was truly hoping she would continue on and write New Moon from his perspective. I read that book in a day waiting for Edward to come back. What had he been doign all that time?
As a photographer, I know what it is like to have your creativity stolen. I hope that Meyer is able to move past this at some point and finish her wonderful tales.

Ashley Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 08:48 AM EST

I'm so glad that SM finally responded to the MS leak. It really is a horrible situation for her and as a huge fan I'm disapointed that she has put finishing MS on hold. I don't think she'll scrap the thing all together (I REALLY hope not) but I respect that she needs time to recover and find a good place again. I hope we don't have to wait too many years for the completed story but in the meantime I'll continue to re-read Twilight and can't wait to see the movie :-)

Jessica Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 12:54 AM EST

I am so upset she isn't finishing the book. I know she feels so betrayed, I don't blame her. But the news of this broke my heart.. I feel like it would have been the best book yet. I wish she would reconsider. I'm begging.. it would give the Twilight Saga a complete finish. PLEASE STEPHENIE.. Please..

Wendy Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 11:37 PM EST

I was just on Stephenie's webpage and she just posted that due to the leak of the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun she has stopped working on it indefinetly. She has posted the 12 chapter draft that was not meant to be leaked. Thanks to those who leaked it, us the true fans and supporters of Stephanie's work, don't get to enjoy the finished product. Who ever did it...you suck!

Catherine of Aragon Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 07:05 PM EST

.. I wanna read every bit of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn from Edward's point of view. I never thought it was possible to fall in love with him again and again and again!! It's huge ! He's version is so much more than Bella's !! ... I would love if Stephenie could provide this to us and to her, of course !... Anf if she doesn't, and if there's someone that's going to be the one holding the speech for the 5th book, I want Edward to be the one !! Oh please ! Maybe Renesmee storie, by her father, the real werewolfs falling for Bella, or another Vampire who caught some of her atention... something, something !! ... But him on top, of course !!!!!!!

Tracy Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

I'm really disappointed that MS was leaked. It takes all the fun out of the anticipation for the book to come out. Although I read the first chapter from SM website, I am excited for the rest. I just hope that whoever leaked the other chapters doesn't ruin for everyone else, and SM still decides to publish it.

Danii Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

I read the leaked 12 chapters, and I have to say, i LOVED it! seriously, made me fall in love with edward all over again...if that's even possible.. XD
I love being in his mind and seeing just how much he strggles with Bella's scent..and just to see how much he *loves* her is just..incredible. *swoon*
also, I wanna see the Meadow Scene!! I would love to see what he's thinking through all of that...or the fight scene/when he's leaving Bella, that'll be just heartbreaking... (its painful for him to leave her for a few hours...I just gotta see how much pain he'll be in to leave her so she can be with jasper and alice)
And im guessing that also includes the phone call he'll get when he finds out Bella ran away... OH man I can't wait!!!! i hope it comes out next year... <3

Ashley Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:48 PM EST

Once I found out about the MS leak I debated on if I wanted to track it down and read it. On one hand I REALLY wanted to read it and on the other I have to respect SM and her work. In the end I couldn't keep away (ha, how like Edward am I?) I'm not sorry I read the 12 chapters. I'm even more anxious to have the rest of the book than before. I will definitely be there at midnight to pick up a copy of MS whenever it comes out (soon I hope!) I'm also interested to hear from SM about the leak and I hope it doesn't prevent her from finishing/publishing MS as she wanted.

Annie Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

As a mom whose got hooked on the series because of my 2 teen Twilighters, I couldn't resist reading MIDNIGHT SUN. I LOVED IT!! It was so exciting, even their dad (a big Anne Rice/ Stephen King fan) liked it. The description of how Edward was planning to destroy all the "collateral damage" in the Biology class was wonderfully horrific. I cannot wait for the whole book to be finished. I hope she does the entire series.

sam Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 10:20 AM EST

though i promised my friend i wouldn't read all 12 chapters of midnight sun after it was leaked, i couldn't help myself. Edward is.. beyond words. I agree with emily, i understand him much better, i realize now his undying passion for Bella, rather than the way she percieved it. It's so much more than what she thinks. I really, truly hope they don't mess anything up in the movie Twilight... i don't know if i could take it! I know reading the 12 chapters was against your wishes Stephenie Meyer, and for that im truly sorry. On the other hand, excellent job so far! lots of love,
<3 PeAcE

Madison (Team Edward) <333 Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 10:17 AM EST

Well, i've read Twilight about 10 times so far and the first chapter in Midnight Sun about 20 times and, i've got to say I think i'm gonna like Midnight Sun better. Although i'm really gonna miss the description of Edward from Bella's point of veiw. I'm SOOO EXCITED for chapter 13: confessions from Edward's pov!!!

Emily Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 09:30 AM EST

oops srry! it messed up my post

Emily Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 09:28 AM EST

omg i couldn't help it and i had to read the 12 chapters of midnight sun! i understand Edward so much more now and how much he really loves Bella and how he sees himself. now i really can't wait for it to come out for real so i can read the rest of the story!!

Emily Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 09:24 AM EST

omg i couldn't help myself and i had to read the 12 chapters of midnight sun! i understand Edward so much more now. you just see a whole differint side of him and how much he really loves Bella. now i really can't wait till it comes out for real with the rest of the story!!

Noriko Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 07:16 AM EST

gabyB. Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

where can i find the 12 chapters???

Pearle Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

"Midnight Sun" was a blast to read!! The Twilight Saga is compelling story in all its glory, but seeing it through the older, wiser eyes of Edward opens up some thrilling possibilities: details of what he did when he left Forks on that first day in "Twilight"; the conversations he had with his family on being in love with a human that gave him permission to bring her into his life and the family's home; and the details of what Edward did -- in detail -- when he left in both "Twilight" and "New Moon." I'd especially love to read Edward's experiences in resisting his "urges." For those of us who can name our own "brand of heroine," it would be especially interesting and meaningful.

Keri, Tampa FL Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

I have read the first chapter of Midnight Sun and I re-read Twilight after and i was totally even more in love with the story!!! i mean, knowing what he was thinking in the classroom and the cafeteria was so exciting! i can't wait for this next book to come out!!! I can't say i love one more than the other though. i think Twilight is fantasitc and Midnight Sun will be too! i'm looking forward to knowing when he really fell in love with her ya know, when he really knew and also the fight scene!!! can't wait!!!

kim Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

i too read the 12 chapters on line but that certainly won't stop me from standing in line at midnight to get it! it's AMAZING! i didn't think anything could get better than twilight but i was wrong! i wish she would write new moon from his view too! i'm dieing to know what edward was thinking when he left her! and when he came back! after finishing breaking dawn the series was complete and i was happy and finally moving on! but this has put an abrupt stop to that!

Lauren Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

I am a fan of all things Twilight! I love Bella's story, and I even enjoyed Jacob's perspective. After reading, one chapter of Midnight Sun, I am convinced Edward will become my favorite narrator. There will be more of the awesome Cullen's and we get to hear many people's thoughts.

Tara Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 03:00 PM EST

I would love for her to write New Moon from Edward's view as well. I don't know about everyone else, but I want to know more on where he went and what he did. We all know he tracked Victoria to South America, but there is more to that story. I read the first chapter of MS and can't wait. I loved the Twilight series. I think she could go even farther with Edward's books. She could always write about his life right after Carlisle made him. that would be awesome!!!

Kalie Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

I can't wait for the release of "Midnight Sun". After I finished BD, I decided to read the whole series all over again & it was really interesting to read the 1st chapter of "Twilight" & then read the 1st chapter of MS. Edward is such a fascinating character, it just might be better than the original version. I can't wait to learn more about each Cullen. I love every one of them. I want to know what they each have to say when they find out about Edward & Bella. I want to read Edward's take on the 3 different times he saves Bella's life :) & of course the meadow scene. I also want to know what he was thinking in that hospital scene at the end because it seems to be the first time he really hints at leaving Bella as he will do in NM...It's kind of sickening that someone has leaked the 1st 12 chapters of Stephenie's book, so I'm not even going to look for them. I know she wouldn't be happy about that, so I'm not going to be disrespectful toward the author who gave us these wonderful books

tigerlil Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

I read the first 12 and can't wait until the whole book comes out - gives a very interesting perspective from the Cullen side.

shayla Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

I HAVE ALL TWELVE CHAPTERS BY STEPH MEYER!!!! If anyone wants them, email me at twilight.obsession@yahoo.com and i will send them to you via attachment. Its a pdf file. Its large, so u may not recieve it depending on what email service u use. :)

Ashley Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 01:01 PM EST

I cannot wait for Midnight Sun to be available. The whole story from Edward's prospective is just so interesting and intense. It really fleshes out a lot of the stuff we miss by going on Bella's perspective alone. I'm most looking forward to that moment when Edward realizes he loves Bella, he loves her more than he wants to kill her and he can't/doesn't want to stay away anymore. I'm also really interested to see Alice's vision of Bella becoming a vampire. Is it the result of the fight with James or something more related to Breaking Dawn. Stephenie seems to write pretty fast so I hope we don't have to wait too long for this!

Melanie Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 12:42 PM EST

I like both first chapters equally :] Bella's story may be a bit easier to relate to, but Edward's is fascinating on its own.

Elizabeth Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

Its on Stephenie's website - I really did enjoy it. I know she's said she didn't want to do the second book because its sad, but damn it woman - you did this to us! I don't care how dark or sad it would be, it still would be fun to read.

Harris Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

There was a leak online of the first 12 chapters if you google"Midnight Sun Leak". I haven't read it, too scared to after the whole harry potter thing however I have heard that it seems to be the real deal.

Ana Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

can someone please post the first chapter of midnight sun on here,
my computer wont let me see it.

Lyric Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 10:06 AM EST

What i've read of Midnight Sun, even though it be little, has made it my favorite book of the series. I thought the best parts of Twilight were reading between the lines of what Bella saw, thought she saw, and what was actually there, when it came to Edward. It'll be very interesting to see how the whole story pans out in his perspective. I for one, cannot wait until it's available in stores.

erin Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 09:15 AM EST

I read Midnight Sun soon after reading Twilight for the first time and I thought it was great. It really did give more depth to the characters and I cant wait for it to be released. I also had no idea Edward wanted to kill Bella that bad haha

Molly Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 09:08 AM EST

I LOVEDDDD the first chapter of midnight sun. it was so dark. bella never realized just how much danger she was actually in. thats intense. and i love the inner workings of the cullens!

Jenn Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 08:50 AM EST

Her publishing company probably "accidentally" leaked the pages themselves since Breaking Dawn was such a big pile of epic fail and they needed a way to win all the lost fans back. :|

breakingdawnfan Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 08:09 AM EST

NO YOUR GAY AS*HOLE DON'T HATE !!!!

YAY TWILIGHT !!!!

I haven't read it for a while now, but i'm pretty sure it was amazing.
I mean it was SM after, what did you expect? lol

Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 07:02 AM EST

I loved what I read of MS... I love to see Edward 's point of view, not only because he's more aware of the others, but also because we have the other side of the story! I would love if we had the whole saga in Edward's pov, just to compare to bella's

Wendy Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 06:52 AM EST

Nice article, I enjoyed reading it. I too have been waiting for Midnight Sun to be completed. I loved reading the first chapter from Edward's point of view. I have also been anxiously awaiting Stephenie to update her site with any and all faqs and extras for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I need MORE!

Francie Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 06:03 AM EST

SM has already written more than 12 chapters of midnight sun. But this week the 12 first chapters leaked. they were AMAZING btw!!!! i LOVED LOVED LOVED them so much!

fairnymph Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 04:11 AM EST

Unfortunately, in place of the smoldering topaz eyes and icy sculpted marble we get silk over glass, compulsive intraeye creasing, fragility, and my favourite - 'kittenish fury'.

Also, some bizarre lines which indicate some gender confusion on Edward's part.

Bella Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 02:25 AM EST

sry i mean the whole book, lol
LG

Bella Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 02:23 AM EST

I read the first chapter, of German. I´m German, lol. And i love it, i love Edward, and I´m so excited to read the hole book of Edward´s perspective.

The first chapter of Midnight Sun has been on Stephenie Meyer's website for oh, YEARS now, and you pick the week that the first 12 chapters were leaked online to write about it in this blog? Hmm. Oh, EW, but aren't you fickle. You put Robert Pattinson in a Donald Trump fright wig and lipstick for your ridiculous cover picture, your reviewer craps all over Breaking Dawn, then you squee like a teenage fangirl in this blog, post in-depth video interviews with Stephenie Meyer, and try to do me-too Twilight Tuesdays. EW's Twilight coverage has multiple personality disorder. Or maybe you find the lure of a ready-made online fandom so irresistible that you toy with Twi-hards knowing anything you post about Twilight will ensure hits on ew.com. While you're trolling for web hits, just don't hype Twilight so much with this kind of baiting that your regular readers come to hate the very mention of Twilight and it's relegated to "so five minutes ago" status before the movie even opens.

Kelley Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 01:04 AM EST

it is the real first chapter...for anyone that is skeptical it is also posted on Stephenie Meyer's offical website! ahhh i cant wait!

natie Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 12:50 AM EST

i've read the chapter a dozen times. its amazing. i'm totally stoked to read ch. 13 Confessions from Edwards pov...that would be simply amazing...

*melt*

Lauren Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:58 PM EST

I read the first chapter and LOVED it! I'm really looking forward to reading the meadow scene and fight scene from his perspective. i cant wait to read midnight sun!

Lauren Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

I absolutely adore the first chapter of Midnight Sun and the following eleven (whether they are real or not). Edward POV is fantastic. Stephenie has done a fabulous job.

TWILIGHTER FOR LIFE. <3

Cindy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

Oh, and I'm just dying to see EVERYTHING through Edward's eyes.

Cindy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:00 PM EST

I have indeed read the first chapter of Midnight Sun and I absolutely love it - can't wait for the entire book! I think I might love Twilight told from Edward's perspective a bit more, but I'm just thrilled that we get to have both [his and Bella's].

robbie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 10:35 PM EST

okay im glad there werent any real spoilers in that article i was really nervous reading it. i can't wait to read edwards thought about the thugs when he saved bella in twilight after she went shopping and got lost!!!! ahh im so exciteddd!

i love edward

Dora Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

Kiss me, Eddiekuns.

Midnight Sun Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 08:54 PM EST

I AM A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELLA IS SO FRAGILE~~!!!! CHAGRIN!!!

Megan Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 08:25 PM EST

I really want to know what was going through Edward's mind the first time he and Bella kissed, and also what his reaction was to finding her in a pool of her own blood in the ballet studio.

And I'd REALLY like to know the story behind the "We've been there before" following Bella's worry that Charlie will call the FBI if she doesn't come home from the baseball game.

And also what exactly he was thinking when he turned around and saw Bella and her prom dress.

Alli Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 08:23 PM EST

I read the first chapter and LOVED it. I am so psyched to hear Edward's side of the story. Even after the four Twilight books, I still feel like I don't completely know his character. From the first chapter we can see the immense strain being around Bella caused him, and subsequently how much of his nature he had to suppress to be with her. Twilight seemed so dangerous and romantic from Bella's POV, but I think Edward's account will top hers. I am so excited for this!!

KC Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:55 PM EST

I think the point of SM writing from Bellas POV in the first place was to make the character more relatable - no matter how different she might be to the rest of the people in the book - she is still human. Much easier to relate to her than a male vampire... The fact that everyone got attached to all the characters through Bellas POV and the book in general makes an Edward POV book so much more interesting. If we read Edwards before Bellas we would be freaking out about the obsessive "monster" and not looking at it the way we do now - in love and all..... The first 12 chapters are amazing - i couldnt help myself - but could easily be fake. Just have to wait for the real one to find out! It will be good to compare the 2 if its real - editted vs uneditted...

rmcabana Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

I read the 1st chapter last week after finishing the books. It really has me wanting more. And I agree Edward's POV is awesome. Love all the comments about what people like Jessica were thinking!

Ariana Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

One other reason im excited for Midnight Sun that i didnt list below is that we get to read for a vampire's mind!!!!!! that is gonna be sooooo cool and interesting and we get to see how much edward really loves bella.

I AM AN OBSSESED AND EXCITED ~*~TWILIGHTER~*~

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ~OBSSESIVE *CULLEN* DISORDER~ ;0

Ariana Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

I can't wait for Midnight Sun to come out!!!!! Im so stoked to see more of the Cullens! it might just be more exciting than twilight, cuz we get to see who the cullens and other charcters really are bc of Edward's mind rieading ability! and we also get to understand who edward really is and read more scenes with the cullens and read what he thought during our favorite scenes in twilight. the scenes im probably most excited to read in edward POV are the meadow, port angeles, and baseball scenes and also when edward rescues bella from james!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! :)

I AM AN OBSSESED AND EXCITED ~*~TWILIGHTER~*~

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ~OBSSESIVE *CULLEN* DISORDER~ ;)

Kim Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

I read the 12 chapters but I have this nagging feeling that they are not the real one's. With all the knowledge that I've accumulated of everything Twilight I could of wrote that. So, maybe it's a ruse??? The first chater rocks while the others dwindle. I don't know, just got to wait and see...but does anyone agree?

Ames Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:10 PM EST

My problem with the Twilight series has always been that SM chose the least interesting character POV to write from. She writes much better from Edward's perspective--and even Jacob's--because they are more interesting to begin with. Therefore, I'm way more psyched for Midnight Sun than I was for any of the Bella-centric books.

samantha Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 07:01 PM EST

I've read the first chapter and I think MS is going to be an awesome book, maybe even better than Twilight, and thats saying alot because I love twilight! I love seeing how Edward's mind works

jen Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:59 PM EST

EW - cant you do an indepth interview with Rob Pattinson like you did with Meyer. I so want him to sit down for a relaxing chat to really get to know him.

ali Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

I'm only interested if we had the film from Edward's perspective. As we'll never see it I dont care less. the books bore me. I only like Rob.

Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:43 PM EST

I loved the first chapter. Edward is a much more interesting character than Bella, because she is not that bright. And Edward can read everyone's thoughts, so we "hear" how others are reacting to a scene.
I'll bet anything the other eleven chapters some people read are fake.

Megan Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:32 PM EST

I love Midnight Sun so far. I like Edward far better in it than in any of the books from Bella's point of view. Can't wait!

Annie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:27 PM EST

I cannot wait for Midnight Sun, I need it. I need it now. The first 12 chapters leaked over the weekend...and it's F-ING AMAZING.

lyle Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:22 PM EST

I'm DYING to read Midnight Sun. I would love to know what Edward was thinking or how BAD he wanted to devour her during the first night he watched her sleep. Need to know why he fell in love with Bella. Can anyone PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE tell me WHERE I can find the leaked first 12 chapters?????

lyle Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:17 PM EST

OMG...I can't wait for Midnight Sun. I love Edward and I'm so excited to see his perspective on things...especially on WHY he fell in love with Bella. Love to know what he was thinking the first night he watched her sleep. Can anyone tell me WHERE I can access the leaked 12 chapters...PLEASE??? I'm DYING here!!!

Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

ugh all of these people commenting are just that girl from Livejournal being a jerk. For what it's worth, I LOVE Stephenie Meyer but Breaking Dawn mad me sad.

angie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:11 PM EST

I have read the first 12 chapters of MS. Not sure if they are genuine or not, but absolutely love them. Can't wait to get the book!

Jacob Black Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

Hey, NESSIE LIKES THE JONAS BROTHERS!

the jonas bros. Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:07 PM EST

yo, these books are gayyyyy.

and thats saying something coming from us.

Alice Cullen Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

Okay, I give up. If the Volturi comes for you guys, blame it on Edward.

Nessie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:58 PM EST

My mommy's hunting and Daddy's acting wierd. HE CALLED ME RENESTARD! Eh, Alice is coming.

anne a. Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:58 PM EST

I've read the first chapter of Midnight Sun a long time ago (since it's been in SM's website for a while). And I agree, it's a more interesting read because you really get to see who Edward is and the relationship of the Cullens...his mind-reading makes you see more than what Bella sees. I can't wait for the book to come out.

Edward Cullen Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

I have to say this very fast or else Alice is going to kill me but to the "C" word: STAY AWAY FROM ME AND MY FAMILY!

Jacob Black Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:55 PM EST

NESSIE? DO YOU LIKE PHIL COLLINS? THIS IS SUSSUDIO, A GREAT, GREAT SONG, A PERSONAL FAVOURITE.

Rebecca Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:51 PM EST

It's great it read about an amazing looking vampire but through Edward's eyes its a lot more interesting because of all the pain he goes throughout the story.I'm excited to read what he was thinking during the meadow part the most.

Billy Black Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:50 PM EST

HAS ANYONE SEEN CHARLIE? I NEED HIM AND HIS FISHING POLE TO GO "FISHING".

The C-Word Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

to those of you hating on stephenie's love affair with me,

YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW DEEP OUR LOVE IS, WE ARE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER AND SHE WOULD NEVER EVER USE ANOTHER ADJECTIVE BECAUSE SHE *LOVES* ME AND ONLY ME OKAY? LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!!!

Cammywamy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

*screams* I CAN'T Wait that long!!!! I need to read it. I really want to know what Alice's visions look like and how he really feels about Bella.

Cammywamy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

*screams* I CAN'T Wait that long!!!! I need to read it. I really want to know what Alice's visions look like and how he really feels about Bella.

Nolie Nole Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

I read the first chapter of Midnight Sun and thought it was great. Specifically, because you DO get to see into the minds of all the characters in the previous books that you've come to care about. The first couple pages in the lunchroom were amazing due to that. Katy's got a point though. Why the hell does Eddie C love Bella? I know it's purely fictional but can you really say that if you were Bella you wouldn't at some point say to your undead boo, "I want to be loved for me and not the way my blood smells?" Maybe in essence, those are the same thing. I need clarity and it's this Twilight musing that keeps me going nowadays.

Amy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

i cant wait for midnight sun. everybody sayin that there is a rumor that the first 12 chapters of midnight sun has been leaked. is it true? and where has it been leaked? anybody know?

Tarcy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:37 PM EST

The first chapter was wgreat and all, I was excited to learn more about Edward. But when the other 11 chapters leaked, THAT got me! He is SO funny. I already know that Midnight Sun is my FAVE book of the series.

Laurie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

Okay haters. Chill out. I agree that these novels are not great works of American literature, but I took them as easy summer beach reads and enjoyed them all. Its a little lazy to me to write the same book over again, but apparently thats what the people want. Give them cake.

Edward Cullen Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

I know how you guys feel. I now hate the word chagrin, but it's not like I can escape it,fsdfu
Hi, this is Alice. JASPER AND EDWARD shall no longer be commenting here. Be thankful, it's to save your lives. I'll be watching.

Sophie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:26 PM EST

Aha the 'c-word'. Yup I hate when Stephenie uses the words Chagrin and grimace. I just need to close the books for a few minutes in order to calm myself.

Ok over used words aside I preferred reading the first chapter from Edward's point of view. Only because we hear other peoples thoughts too. That's interesting enough to let me read through the book. It can't possibly be as bad as Breaking Dawn was.

Erynn Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

Yessir Katie... chagrin. Uggh. I hate that word now. Its like someone left a faucet on, and every second you hear the "drip, drip, drip" of the water. Ugggh. *shivers* That's why it is the c-word, not chagrin, cause I'd like to keep my brain in tact, teewhyveeem.

Jackie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

already reads WAYYYY better than twilight. way more interesting, indepth, well written. thank goodness.

Katy Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:18 PM EST

The chapters were so boring. I thought we would get so much more insight to Edward and find out why he loves Bella... but nope. It was just Twilight rehashed with barely any new material.

EGT Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:15 PM EST

I read "Twilight," and finished it thinking that Edward Cullen was a good character trapped in a bad novel. Then I read the chapter of "Midnight Sun" online and realized, nope, every character Stephenie Meyer writes sounds just as vapid and overwrought. That was the end of my acquaintance with this phenomenon.

MSF Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

Yes, I read the 1st chapter of Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's website, and I loved it! It was fascinating to read about Bella's 1st day of school from Edward's point of view, and to see just how close he came to giving in to his need to drink her blood! I can't wait to read the entire book... especially if there's the added bonus of getting more of Alice, my very favorite Cullen (beside Edward, of course).

Jasper Hale Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

EDWARD! Stop commenting on fansites and blogs or else the Volturi are going to think that Stephenie Meyer actually exists and kill her. Now, I know she kind of messed up your life there for a while, but you have to take into account her safety. Alright?

deet Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

Everyone realizes she started writing this one a while ago right. So everyone who's saying that she's trying to get more money, drop it. The first chapter has been up since before the third book even came out.

MSF Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

Jocelyn Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

I am so excited for Midnight Sun. As much as I love the first Twilight book, Bella is very young and her inner monologue really reflects that. I am very excited to hear Edward's thoughts on everything.

Jennifer Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:47 PM EST

I liked the first chapter too, and I can't wait to get my hands on the whole book.

Edward Cullen Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:47 PM EST

I can't believe Stephenie Meyer is payed to write about me! I mean, I could do a better job, obviously, I'm better at everything...But I can't believe she did that to me and Bella in Breaking Dawn. I DIDN'T WANT A RENESTARD! That's the last time anyone makes up my life.

Wow Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

So this author is so creatively bankrupt that she's just rehasing her previous work, but from a different point of view?

So, in the end the series will be 10,000 pages of "Roshomon," except terrible.

MAC Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:31 PM EST

Love it...just got into the Twilight series and am on Eclipse right now. I was trying to think of a way that I could possibly prolong finishing the series so I could enjoy it for a longer time...but now I don't have to worry! I love Edward Cullen!

Katie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

oh, the c-word?
CHAGRIN CHAGRIN CHAGRIN CHAGRIN CHAGRIN, Stephenie Meyer's favorite word. I cringe every time I see/hear it in real life now. Honestly, why are people paying her to write? My brother wrote better work when he was in elementary school.

V, I know you liked Midnight Sun and that's cool, but it's just another pile of Meyerfail and it breaks my heart to know you liked it.

stephenie's thesaurus Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:24 PM EST

HAVE YOU SEEN MY MOMMY?

Erynn Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Ah... the first 12 chapters... I kind of hate Edward more. Actually, I hate him with a passion now. And that's coming from someone who read the series and fell head over heels for him. I hate how he referred to Bella as "the girl". Grr. But I'm still going to buy it when it comes out. It was incredibly funny, the way Eddie thinks about Bella. Even during the Port Angeles scene I was laughing my butt off. I hate how Edward uses all these huge words, but when he speaks he doesn't sound like him at all. And he acts like a walking, talking dictionary, yet he can't pick up a thesaurus and find other words for "monster" *used 33 times in ch. 1-12* or "selfless" *used 7 times*. Don't get me started on the C-word. Eck.

Raven_Moon Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

I read the first chapter to "Midnight Sun" a while back & I've been obsessing about when the novel would be released ever since. I loved it! I dig the darker tone & I'm excited to get to spend more time with Edward. (Yeah, I'm a nerd.)

Dianna Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:05 PM EST

I thought it was horrible, actually. Made me like Edward even less and I never thought that was possible before. What is it about this series that as everyone so enamored? It's misogynic, poorly written and complete tripe.

Orlaah Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:05 PM EST

THE FIRST 12 CHAPTERS WERE AMAZING
I'M TALKING- WAY, WAY BETTER THAN ANY OF THE OTHER BOOKS IN BELLA'S P.O.V

i know it was wrong to read it, i don't know how it got leaked- but it was just TOO tempting!!
It was just amazing.
that is all
<3

vanessa Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

i think the first chapter's amazing. it's so refreshing to be able to look into edward's mind, as it's completely the opposite from bella's.
i've read the other 11 chapters and they are also as intense! i really can't wait for this novel, even though breaking dawn just came out weeks ago.

JMC Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

Honestly though, I can see why people don't like the books (feminism, mormonism, etc), and I usually end up conceding to all of their points, then admitting: "Yep! And I like them all anyway!"

Kayla Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

Jenny P. where did the first twelve chapters leak?

Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

This is such old news. Why does PopWatch report on things so long after they happen and pretend like they discovered it?

JMC Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

I'm about halfway thru BD for the first time... Had to get over my initial reaction to spoilers, but I really like it now. I'm hoping for a few BD Edward outtakes, like she enjoys throwing out to answer FAQs.

Mike Jones Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

The first 12 chapters were horrible. SMeyer just needs to stop now.

Katie Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

If the first twelve chapters are any indication, to quote the fantastic Tom Servo, this book (like the other Meyer failures) is going to blow.

Jenny P Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

are you kidding me

the first 12 chapters leaked btw

I don't know if you're allowed to report on that, but you probably should know

Susana Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

My heart started racing when I read this article because I'm so happy I'm not the only one jumping out of my seat for Midnight Sun. I'm rereading the whole saga now (on the 2nd round of Breaking Dawn) and I still can't get enough. I'm dying to read the Meadow scene from Edward's perspective. CAN'T WAIT!

Katelyn Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

I'm so glad you wrote this article! I too am on the edge of my seat waiting for Midnight Sun, especially after a glimpse at the first chapter. Stephenie was write in saying that most of the story actually took place with Edward we missed out on a lot from Bella's POV. I do think it makes it better that our hunk of a narrator has the ability to read everyone else's mind, so essentially it's like a million stories at once! I especially can't wait for the first night Edward stays with Bella after he sparkles for her in the field and how desperate he'll be to get to Bella once he gets the call from Alice in Phoenix telling him that Bella ran away from her and Jasper.

It's gonna be good......=)

Snarf Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:38 PM EST

Here's hoping it comes out next year.
I'll be in full withdrawl by then no doubt.

T-Rex Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

I just threw up a little in my mouth.
