It's Wednesday... an obvious day to Rock?

Rocker_l Rainn Wilson (second from right) hopes you're sufficiently intrigued (read: freaked out) by his attempt to hold Jenna Fischer hostage in the trunk of his car -- enough to go out tonight and see his new movie, The Rocker (check out Owen Gleiberman's review, here). The Rocker's just the latest in a string of Wednesday releases (Pineapple Express, Traveling Pants 2, Tropic Thunder) in August. I've become vaguely aware of this trend, but never seem to actually pick up on it until the Friday after the film's early release. I suddenly feel more out of it than James Franco attempting to carry two giant slushies and a bevy of snacks -- something I believe I witnessed solo at a Monday-at-midnight showing at the Quarry 14 cinemas in Hodgkins, Illinois. (Let's hear it for flying home for a week-long vacation only to realize your friends won't do anything fun with you because they have in-state jobs!)  Anyway, do you guys go to movies on Wednesdays now? Is Wednesday the new Friday? Is ash the new black? I have to know.

And who's excited for The Rocker? I'd personally rather marathon through all 22 of the classic rock 'n' roll movies featured in today's EW.com gallery, but that's just me. Is your jam pumped up? (Sorry.)

Confession time - I'm old enough to be his mom, but I've been a big Teddy Geiger fan (his biggest fans call themselves "Tedheads") since he was on "Love Monkey". I wanted to see him in concert last year, but the concert was cancelled because he was cast in "The Rocker". So I've been waiting for a year for this movie to come out, and now that I've read nothing but bad reviews, I'll probably go see it anyway. My advice for the rest of you: stay home and rent "Still Crazy".

Ditto on the lack of Almost Famous in that countdown. For shame EW! Have you no taste? And I went to see Dark Knight on a Wednesday. It's $4.75 for tickets during the week here. As opposed to $9.50 on the weekends. And the theater is less full of loud obnoxious teens during the week. Everybody wins!

Haha nice shout out to the Quarry 14. I still go there every now and then. Anyhoo, I usually hit up movies on the weekend. Unless it's some special occasion. And I probably won't be spending 9 bucks on The Rocker. As much as I like the Free Jenna Now videos, I'm not convinced of Rainn's movie star power.

our local theater has senior wednesdays - so you can sneak in at half price and see new release.

Why isn't Almost Famous on the classic rock movies list? Fail!

I saw this movie about two and a half months ago at a preview screening. It's decidedly okay, although the performances (Rainn and all three of the teens) are fantastic. I am a die-hard Rainn Wilson fan, and my crush only intensified when I got to say hi after the screening. Sigh.

I love Rainn Wilson (I sat through Galaxy Quest for the 100th time just to see the Rainn Wilson scenes), but think this movie looks very "straight to dvd". Who knows? Maybe it'll be a sleeper hit the way "the Office" was, but something about this movie just doesn't say classic to me.

Still, I wish them the best and will see the movie if the reviews are good.
