Justintimberlakeoscars_l Justin Timberlake's publicist convinces America he's in the running to host the 2009 Oscars!

Owen Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

Dear God. There are people on this board who actually think this is a good idea???? I love the Seacrest, but I don't want him hosting the Oscars either. This, no matter how long and boring, is a CLASSY event. Which means the class structure of Hollywood needs to be maintained for the show's integrity. And yes, if any award show has "integrity" (and that's an argument) its the Oscars. A hip commedienne hosting is way different than a reality TV host or an ex-boy bander wannabe with a sense of humor!

Jeremy Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 11:02 AM EST

I don't give a rat's ass who hosts, just CUT THE SHOW IN HALF!

mydove Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

JT overkill. Please give us an opportunity to miss you. You're everywhere all the time. You're the male equivalent of Beyonce.

CJHollywood Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

I am one of those who think he'd be a great choice. The Oscars need a little updating, and Timberlake could deliver that. How do we campaign for him hosting the show? LOL :)

pc Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

I would watch any awards show he hosted.....he's MILES better than anyone who's hosted anything in my lifetime. Make him the permanent Oscar, Emmy and Grammy host!

dan Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:47 AM EST

After his hosting of the Espy's brilliant show I might actually consider watching the Oscars if he were to host. The Oscars is such a bore I stopped watching years ago. He was funnier then most professional comedians.

tomf Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:36 AM EST

What are his acting credentials? Stick to the Teen Choice awards. There's no need to cater to the young crowd, they couldn't care less about who wins.

LoveMeSomeJT Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:19 AM EST

I WOULD JUST DIE!! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Agree with the other poster that said I would watch him in anything. Okay except "The Love Guru".

De Malma Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:08 AM EST

Maybe they should do like SNL did back in the 70's and have an anyone can host contest. It's gotta be better than this clown. What, is Vanilla Ice busy?

Jon Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:51 AM EST

You know what, I think the Oscars SHOULD be trying to win over as many young viewers as possible. I watch the show every year, and the crowd is always dead, no matter the host. Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Ellen, nobody could invigorate those stiffs. So why not go to the extreme and at least entertain the people at home with someone hip and hilarious. And JT isn't a comedian, but a performer (and actor), so maybe he'll elicit a better reaction from the movie industry stiffs.

Delon Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 06:09 AM EST

I guess he wouldn't be worse than Seacrest. I announce here that if Seacrest hosts i will put an end to my 20 consecutive years of Oscars watching. And lemme tell u the Academy you don't wanna lose me as your audience. As evident from your ratings year after year that people like me are a dying breed.

Mike J Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

The decline of civilization approaches a little more. Seriously, Justin Timberlake is a catchy artist, but having a former boy band member host the Oscars is like Pamela Anderson hosting a Mormon convention.

Gennifer Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 11:17 PM EST

Can't they just get one of the late night hosts to... host? Ferguson could work. Maybe a whole entourage like the SNL cast? Just please not Timberlake or Seacrest. That would be awful and both would constantly be slammed by Academy members.

Gale Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 10:01 PM EST

Justin was awesome at the ESPYs, and as I watched it I kept thinking that he should host the Oscars. He certainly couldn't be worse than Ellen DeGeneres was.

ks Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 09:40 PM EST

NOOOO!!! I can't stand this guy. He is all about himself, YUK

Kath Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 09:12 PM EST

I'm gonna have to agree with Slezak here. When I think "Justin Timberlake" I certainly don't think Oscars, or Oscar host, or even comedian. I don't get it.

Raven_Moon Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 08:59 PM EST

Sacrilege! Why not Jon Stewart, again, or perhaps Conan O'Brien?

nunya Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

he was funny as the espys host, but the espys doesn't require much. the oscars needs a brilliant quick witted comedian/ comedienne. it's no surprise many seasoned comics have failed in the past. my top picks are either conan or colbert.

mick Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 06:44 PM EST

He was so incredibly funny as the host of the Espy's I'd probably watch the Oscars for once if he hosted.

susan Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 06:43 PM EST

This comes from the Enquirer not Timberlakes publicist. After watching the ESPY's if I were the people deciding on the Oscar host I'd go youtube his monologue and I Love Sports song and give it serious consideration. I never laughed so hard in my life. He was the best host the Espys's ever had. He could probably make a boring show like the Oscars worth watching.

mexipino Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 06:06 PM EST

blasphemy!!! i would rather watch reruns of the mickey mouse.

Jessica Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

I missed the ESPYs but have seen him host other shows-he's charming, funny, even (dare I say it?) talented...Why not give him a shot? Perhaps having him would bring in a different/bigger audience. Not to mention a younger vibe that the show could benefit from. I think most people can agree that something needs to be done to bring the awards back to its glory days...

Cory Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 04:53 PM EST

Also, I think he might be better suited for the Emmy's, so maybe there's hope for that. But, if the Academy decides on Ryan Seacrest, I will not be watching.

Cory Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

Well, Justin is strangely appealing (even though I am straight and don't really care for his type of music), so if the Academy is seriously considering him, they might not be too far off base. I'm not saying he should, but I'm not saying they shouldn't either. It would definitely be interesting with him as host.

Amy Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

He's a charming person and was damn good hosting the ESPYs. Why not give the Oscars a go?

mscisluv Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 03:58 PM EST

Actually, he was really amazing hosting the ESPYs. He showed a lot of talent and was very natural. But does anyone even watch the Oscars anymore? Thought not - so what's the big deal?

KG Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

Why they would consider JT's ESPYs hosting before Conan's Emmys hosting is a mystery to me. I would even put Stephen Colbert ahead of JT at the Oscars hosting line. Seacrest? Meh.

Jim Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 03:30 PM EST

Why not? I'm not a huge fan of his music, but I respect what he has done careerwise, and he's hilarious on SNL. More importantly, though, what does Stephanie Meyer think about this?

Nancy Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:57 PM EST

Did you watch the ESPY's? He was FANTASTIC! Really, really funny. Still not sure he's ready for the Oscars, but he does get credit for doing a great job at the ESPY's.

Laura M Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:56 PM EST

Yeah, I saw that article and laughed. JT is amusing on SNL, and I'm sure he did a fine job at the ESPYs, but he is definitely not Oscar host material. You need a really seasoned, quick-witted comedian for that job. And speaking of: when are they going to get Conan O'Brien to host the Oscars?? He's been such a brilliant Emmy host, I just don't get why he hasn't been asked yet.

Broadway Baby Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

I would watch Justin Timberlake on everything at anytime doing anything.

K Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

Haters all of you, lol. I don’t want him to host the Oscars simply because he’ll get crucified no matter how good (or bad) he does. The Oscars is an awards show that requires everyone checks their sense of humor at the door (Right, Sean Penn?), making the show stuffy, pretentious and boring. And they wonder why no one watches it anymore?!

I love JT, but I really hope he stays away from the Oscars and does what he does best: making music!

He was hilarious at the espys! I don't like espn or sports, but after I caught a couple of minutes of his performance I recorded it to see it all. His comedic timing is awesome.

Elizabeth Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

What? Seacrest wasn't available? Maybe that shark attack was worse than we thought...

Winona Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:19 PM EST

*checks calendar* Nope, not April 1st...

meg Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

I seriously doubt the Oscars wants the JT vibe. I can appreciate them wanting to make the ceremony younger, but I don't think someone who hosts the ESPYs is exactly what they are looking for.

H Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:03 PM EST

Yuck! He comes off so cocky and entitled; it's almost unbearable. I watched him hosting for a couple minutes on the ESPYs, and needless to say he wouldn't be my first choice for any other awards show.
