Insanity in Denver - Day Three of the Democratic Convention

Patrickleahy_l Here's the latest report on the Democratic National Convention from our guest blogger, TV writer-producer Daniel Palladino. For more Denver dispatches from Dan and Amy Sherman-Palladino, click here.

Random Thoughts While Strolling Down Denver's Outdoor 16th Street Mall For The 37th Time...

• There are too many lobbyists. They should be culled once a year as they do coyotes and hedgehogs. (Series idea -- Reality Department: Lobbyist Island. Each week, one lobbyist is culled in increasingly embarrassing and violent ways. Get Senator Patrick Leahy to host. The man was in The Dark Knight [see photo]; he'll do anything.)

Hillary Clinton's speech was good and she delivered it convincingly. She died inside only nine times. I counted.

• "What About Brian: The Complete Series" is available on DVD. Buy it now or wait for Blu-Ray?

Bill Clinton's speech was great, and he delivered it with vigor. He's died inside so many times these past 12 months that his insides were completely dead.

• Anyone wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade should be forced to adopt an unwanted/unloved child and raise that child to adulthood.

• Where are the hookers? I'm not seeing any. This is a political convention, there's got to be hookers here. Did they put them all in one tent on the grounds of the Pepsi Center like they did the bloggers? (Series idea: a nerdy Internet blogger falls head over heels for a sweet-natured hooker. It's a sexy/awkward new take on Mad About You.)

• I like Nora Ephron's neck.

• The names "Obama" and "Biden" form an almost perfect anagram of Osama bin Laden. Simple solution: Obama should change his name to Smith or Williams. He's always going on and on about changing things, so this should be no problem.

• Buy the DVD set now (stop delaying gratification!!!!)

Fletch - the blogger brought up the issue of abortion, not me. Also, I did not express an opinion on abortion, nor did I say it should be an important campaign issue. I simply used logic to show how ridiculous the blogger's statement concerning Roe v Wade was. Again, remember, the blogger brought up abortion. Think before you speak next time.

Rufus--did you even read it? That blog was not written by a Republican, far from it!

Dave, love the logic. Just because you don't want to 'raise a child into adulthood' doesn't mean you should murder that child, and no matter how you cut it, that's what abortion is.

I am not a fan of this blogging about the conventions but I am interested to see what is said about the RNC next week.

How did I not know the Palladinos were blogging the DNC?

Even though I know Rory Gilmore is a fictional character, I can't help but wonder how exciting this election must be for her as a paid journalist following the Obama campaign. While I am sure Rory could write such wit and sarcasm, reading this blog kind of felt more like listening to Loralie. Rory would have to be a little more serious as she builds her serious journalist cred.

Okay, back to reality--I would become addicted to Lobbyist Island.

.
First reaction: Thanks for promoting The Big Bang Theory, Amy & Dan, but I just thought I'd point out that Penny isn't a hooker. (Although maybe she will be by season four.)
.
Second reaction: Did you guys see Elisha Cuthbert's movie The Girl Next Door recently? How about Weird Science? Were you traumatized by the fact that Charlize Theron played the hooker/slut-with-the-heart-of-gold archetype in Sweet November rather than Lauren Graham?
.
One more thing: picture Kirk, Doyle or Xander Harris saying the above or it'll sound, like, so totally not geeky. ;)

Fletch Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

You see Rick and Dave, that's where you both fall flat on your face. Most people, I think, are SICK of campaigns and administrations based on moral issues.

I don't personally believe in abortion, but I'm not going to tell some young girl that got played by some a-hole that she has to live with that mistake. And I personally don't care if every homosexual on Earth gets married. How is Ellen and Portia getting married going to affect me? It's NOT!!!

I'm concerned about the economy, ending the war, having enough to retire on, healthcare, education. Unless my compass is WAY off, most people feel the same.

I'd rather my leaders focus on that stuff than stupid "faith based initiatives". What the hell is WRONG with people?

Dave Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 10:59 AM EST

By your logic, anyone who does not want to overturn Roe v Wade should perform an abortion, to see what it is like to kill a living fetus and then suck out its remains

Rick Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 10:34 AM EST

Is Amy aware that the waiting list to adopt those "unwanted/unloved" children is two-three years long and costs up to $20,000 each? There's a reason overseas adoption is a booming business.

If you're looking for hookers you need to head over to Colfax, not the 16th Street Mall

Laura Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 04:03 PM EST

Snarf:
Probably about the "Obama-Biden somehow equates to Osama bin Laden. I'm sure Daniel was being sarcastic, but that's a pretty touchy subject, considering that the freaks over at Fox News actually spent a couple of hours seriously discussing this like it was a real issue or something.

MC Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

What do you all have against What About Brian? It was a good show. Democrats I can do without, but Brian was a good show.

Anne Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

What in the hell? Lobbyists, Nora Ephron, and plugs to sell DVDs. Did the protestors force feed you LSD? Pot? EW, I hope ya'll are not paying for this.

Snarf Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

WTH is Rufus1133 going on about?
Seriously dude. CHILL.

Fletch Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 02:35 PM EST

Republicans suck. Who cares if Obama and Biden's names combine to sound like Adolf Hitler or Charles Manson? It's a damn sight better than the past eight years. Peace!

rufus1133 Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

Well, at least you fascist bias is out in the open. At least you don't hide it. I thought this was a site for all americans? Now some of your fav movies and the stuff you push makes sense. to bad. I used to come here everyday. No more. Very stupid of you. I'm going to pass this around the web. You just lost at least a million in revenue. for what?

rufus1133 Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

What the? Ew is part of the fascist right wing propoganda machine? why not just stick to what you do? Why alienate yoru readers? You lose twice. Very stupid of you. Did you wear your swastika to the event so people could identify you as a republcain clone stooge?
