In Memoriam: LeRoi Moore

Aug 20, 2008, 04:13 PM | by Jaya Saxena

Categories: In Memoriam, Music

Daveleroi_l LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, passed away yesterday afternoon due to complications from an ATV accident in late June. He was 46.

Moore and Matthews first teamed up in 1991 in Charlottesville, VA. After pulling together the rest of the band, they released the album Remember Two Things. Seven studio albums later, the Dave Matthews Band has become one of the most popular bands in America. Moore brought jazz and blues influences to the band's easygoing jam-rock sound: From the deep rumble on “Bartender” from the Lilywhite Sessions, to the high-pitched bounce of the tenor notes in “Stay,” Moore brought both life and a playful sensibility to his music.

Moore was one of the less vocal members of the group, preferring to eschew the spotlight. Back in 2001, Dave Matthews spoke with EW music critic Chris Willman, and said of Moore, “He's a tortured soul, but man, when he plays, he plays the most pretty melodies in the world, instantly. And Leroi plays melodies that are brand new that sound as if he's been playing them forever.”

The band announced Moore's passing at their show last night at L.A.'s Staples Center, with Matthews saying, “It’s easier to leave than to be left.” Though Moore is gone, we still have his music, and that will live on through his fans. Please post your condolences, and your memories of Moore, below.

"Crash" was the very first music album I ever owned. I got it with a boombox with a tape-player when I was nine-years-old. I've loved Dave Matthews Band ever since. I particularly loved LeRoi's woodwind work - he mastered every sax there is and had the prowess to improvise with all of them as if he thought and felt in musical notes. He was an amazing musician, and I'll miss him like crazy. My condolences to his family and band-mates.

Good advice from a perfect stranger: Always check for misspelled words before you post.
Beautiful.

My husband, Chris, daughter, Lucy and I were leaving for vacation when we heard the news of LeRoi's passing. We decided then to dedicate our camping vacation to the memory of LeRoi. We listened to DMB all weekend. Lucy, who is 4 years old, loves 'Ants Marching'. We listened over and over again to that beutiful song that has so much of LeRoi's soul. I have a copy of the Staples concert from August 19, 2008. I can never make it through without shedding tears. You can hear the sorrow in the music. I have been a DMB fan since I first heard them in the early '90s. I didn't know LeRoi, but I know his music. We saw DMB at Post Gazette, PA on May 31, 2008. I thought, "how great to see Tim play with them." Now I know that what was really great was seeing LeRoi for the last time, and not even knowing it. I have seen DMB more times than I can remember, but that show is emblazed in my memory forever. God rest you merry gentleman.

Some of the sweetest notes in music that I have heard came from your soul,I know. I didn't know you, but I would have liked you, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing.

Shannon Sisell Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

I started listening to you guys back in '97, later started a DMB cover band in '01. LeRoi was the greatest inspiration to me. Right there with Lester Young. He will always be remembered, and his music shall live forever.
Rest in Harmony.

I've been a DMB fan for over 10 years and was heartbroken to hear of LeRoi's untimely passing. May he rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Mike Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

Love ya' (now miss you) and the band. Your music and show after show brought joy to my life past words. I think of you and am concerned about the future of DMB without you, and know things have forever died in many ways. My last shows seeing you, Hollywood Bowl '07. Hope you're playing for God now.

Aaron Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

I had the pleasure of seeing LeRoi and DMB play about a dozen times through the last couple years. He truly was a great talent. He definitely was the one guy in the band I knew least about. Just shows that it was about the music to him. He didn't seem to care for the spotlight once he was off the stage. My prayers are with his family and friends. All of those live cd's and dvd's are a little more special now. I'm sure they will find a fabulous talent to replace him, but we all know it'll never be the same. God bless.

shannon Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

Leroi will be greatly missed. His music will live on in the hearts of all dmb fans and we all will all hold his memory close to our hearts. DMB wont be the same without you and your heart and soul.

Seth - it would be great if you would just go out and play hopscotch on a busy highway.
Thanks.

Jim French Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 12:13 PM EST

I came to the party late as a D.M.B. fan - I really never listened until a few years ago - I checked out one of their concerts on video and knew immediately, this is an accomplished group that is more than seriously talented - you will never replace that chemistry that Leroi had with his fellow band members and brothers - with all of the absolute idiots in the entertainment industry, it would seem that something special was taken from us too soon - I am not certain anyone would have missed Brittany for very long, if you are comparing talent - I will miss the soul that was Leroi in the D.M.B - it will never be the same - peace to his family - fond memories for all.

Sarah Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

Seth, dude.. get a life! LeRoi was a very important part to DMB.. I've been listening to them since I was in elementary school.
Get over yourself!! How disrespectful for you to bash people for giving their respects to one of the greatest musicians of all time ON THE ARTICLE OF HIS DEATH?!
People like you make me sick.

LeRoi and the rest of DMB created music that was an escape or safe haven for many people, myself included. You must not have ever seen them play live, because if you had, you wouldn't have your head so far up your ass.

So, with all due respect to you (which is obviously not much), I hope someone pays you the same disrespect when you pass.

Go die.

Seth Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:22 PM EST

It amazes me. These people on here speak about the man as though they knew him for years. Losers! Like he was there best friend and there boyfriend. I'm sorry he passed away. He was a good muscician. Lets leave it at that. Losers!

Tommy Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 08:09 AM EST

LeRoi... We'll always miss u man... still can't hold my tears when I listen DMB music, especially #41 & #34 song. We love you... R.I.P. my bro LeRoi at heaven

brett Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 03:44 PM EST

thank you for everything

nathalie Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

Just listening to a compilation of many of Leroi's sax parts and solos and ... and I am still at a loss for words about this great music artist... well...maybe not.. He truly just added that little spunk to all DMB's songs that they needed, at the right time, with that flavor of Roi straight from his soul. I am truly blessed in my life to have heard, related to, intoroduced others to, and seen this great man, and this great band perform their hearts out many times live. God bless Roi up there and all his freinds, family, and fans. Peace

marney Sun, Aug 31, 2008 at 10:41 PM EST

I met this man. I knew this man very briefly but he was one of the kindest, gentlest souls I have ever known. What a terrible loss for his family and for DMB. He has been in my prayers since the accident. To loose a man with such talent and passion is unimaginable. His music will live on and now his music is part of God's choir. LeRoi you are loved and will be missed. I will always remember Piedmont Park and will have it with me forever. Thank you for the gift and Happy #22 again and again. With love and devotion from the blond on the board.

Lou E Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 08:59 AM EST

LeRoi you were the burning example of what a Sax player should look like and play like! When I see you on a pic I automatically think DMB. Man it's going to take some getting used to not to see you with the awesome DMB!! We miss you dog!!

ktfromVA Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

I remember walking into the Floodzone at age 19, and just seeing DMB for the first time. I was BLOWN away, and as corny as it seems, it was a life changing moment. The band was such a part of me, and the music is ingrained in my soul.

LeRoi, god bless. Thank YOU! Your music and soul live on forever!

Donna G Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 11:43 AM EST

I took my son to his 1st DMB concert in 1996 for his 13th B-day present. I have been a fan ever since and my son an even bigger one. He is a musician and plays every DMB song ever written. He had not heard of Leroi's passing, it is ironic I informed him. Leroi, his family and the members of DMB are in my thoughts and prayers. This is such a shock to loose such a talent at such a young age. I know Dave and the guys will honor his memory well and Leroi will smile down from heaven. God Bless you all !!

Dave Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

This is such a terrible loss to an incredibly talented group. You have left a legacy of music that has inspired many, and left a sense of loss among all those who have shared time with you. May the four winds blow you safely home...

Shane Scott Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

Leroi will live on in the hearts of the fans. The greatest tribute to Leroi is to have DMB continue to play his music across the world. Though it will never be the same without him, the show must go on. Thats what any great musician would want.

Craig Barolet Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 01:15 AM EST

After 15 years and 36 shows I feel like I've lost a member of my family. I didn't know him personally but I feel like they're all my brothers. Thier music has been with me constantly, usually daily for almost half of my life. I don't want to believe its true. Im shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of our LeRoi. We should all take a moment to pray for LeRoi, the band and thier families. And pray for the fans too. We've been dealt the tragic loss of a terribly gifted musician, but more importantly we've lost a gentle, sweet, humble, man, who posesed a beautiful warm heart and soul. Rest in Peace, Roi. You've left a void that cannot be filled. You will be terribly missed.

Debra K Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 12:04 AM EST

I'm not really sure what to say. when i heard the news, my eyes filled with tears because i realized what the world lost. This is an enormous lose for the dave matthews band as a group and all of their adoring fans. LeRoi was an amazing sax player and incredible to watch live. i am a fan of the band and their music in infinite proportions. when i describe how dmb's music makes me feel, i simply refer to it as my happy music because no matter what, when i listen to the music and lyrics i become inspired and enthused about life and how great it can be. not only did the world lose a phenominal muscician, but what i'm sure was a great person as well. my deepest sympathy to LeRoi's family, friends, and bandmates. all i can hope is that dmb will continue to dazzle the world with their unbelievable talent and keep LeRoi's spirit alive through the music. with greatest sympathy, one of your biggest fans!!!!

Brad Randolph Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

I have been enchanted by the unique and beautiful sounds of the Dave Matthews Band since I first heard them in 1993. There are times when all you need to hear is a whisper of LeRoi's sax talent tofuel instrumental energy. As a musician in my own right, I have had a hard time dealing with this particular sad news. I knew him, personally...through his soulful music, as we all did and will continue to for the rest of our lives. He showed us through his eclectic style and versatility how to heal ourselves through the power of music. Not just sound...but pure music. I incorporated improvisational styles into my own music based on just this band alone...no John Mayer, no Hendrix, no Jim Morrison, no Floyd, no Zeppellin.....just the Dave Matthews Band. LeRoi was a teacher in his own way just by showing up; he was a leader and a follower just like the entire band has to be for their abilities to become a reality; he was and will continue to be forever in my top two horn players..with Wynton Marsalis being number two. I love him then, I love him now, and I will never stop loving him for who he was. An inspiration to me and my family...and to his own. He is LeRoi Moore. May the angels all gather 'round and hear him play his sweet melodic presence through Heaven. Rest, my brother. Rest now. You're friends and family are forever grateful for your soulful life. I love you all.

Deidre Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 01:50 PM EST

Words can"t express the loss we all feel DMB fans are like family. Our little group has traveled together for 11 years to see them, we are from all different backgrounds, religions, races...our bond is this band and what they give to us. LeRoi man I hope you are having some fun wherever your at, just know that we all drank red wine, smoked, danced barefoot in the back yard singing at the top of our lungs. I am sure we were a sight a bunch of old folks going crazy but it felt like the only thing we could do. We love you all !!!

Alexis Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

LeRoi we loved you and are blessed to have been apart of your world just for a little while we will miss you desperatly! P.S. our thoughts are with you DMB keep the music alive.

sam Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 10:41 AM EST

Man cant believe it still....Such a huge part of a world class band. Will be missed

Jenni Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 01:41 AM EST

I still feel the shock of this loss and can't even imagine how his family, friends, and bandmates feel! This band has brought so many wonderful memories to my friends and I. My fiancee and I actually had our first conversation about a DMB CD. I know that Leroi is keeping heaven happy with his sweet sounds. Bless you and all the lives you have touched.

Erin Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 01:16 AM EST

It really says something about a person when so many people take the time to sing your praise! I am still at a loss for words, but not at a loss for beautiful music. Thanks for the melodies and memories LeRoi. Me and the rest of your fans will make sure that the rest of the guys keep on playin'!

Erica Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM EST

I was shocked by the news of Leroi's passing. The music world has truly lost a dedicated, talented and wonderful musician. He will truly be missed by so many. My prayers and condolences go towards his family and his friends.

Taz Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

I heard the news and sat silent for moments. Celebrities aren't to be mourned any more than anyone, but those that are not only blessed with an amazing talent but the ability and genuine gratiousness as to bless the world with it are to be commended and honored. You will truly be missed for the joy and great times you have imparted on fans like myself. I envy the stars for their continued good fortune of hearing your 'voice.'

Amanda Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

My thoughts and prayers go out to LeRoi's family and friends. Thank you for the beautiful music that turned into memories for so many. Music truly touches peoples lives and Heaven now sounds a little sweeter.

A DMB Fan Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

Leroi Moore was a man of giving, passion for music, and the soul of DMB. They will never be the same without Leroi. His talent graced us with good music, but now, we must give back. When I heard this, I was at a block party last night. My cousin saw my DMB shirt and said, there was something on the radio about the sax guy, he died. All I did was sit there for minutes on end, thinking, he was too young. I'm his age. His life was ruined, and all we can do is say thank you. Rest in Peace, soul and all.

since 1998 I have been waiting to see DMB. Tonight I had the pleasure but I knew a great force was missing. As a fellow musician, I can attest to the difficulties of losing a bandmate and friend. LeRoi, your interplay of melodies with Boyd on "Spoon" always has me in tears, no matter how many times I've heard it. I regret not seeing DMB sooner only because I missed out on you. Wherever you are, keep making your heavenly music.

Muhammad Badran Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 02:43 AM EST

RIP LeRoi

Muhammad Badran Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 02:34 AM EST

WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF LEROI'S DEATH, I WAS PLAYING CARDS WITH MY SISTER. IT WAS THE NIGHT OF THE STAPLES CENTER CONCERT AND I WAS WONDERING IF THE NEWS WOULD BRING UP THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND SINCE THEY WERE PLAYING IN LOS ANGELES. BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ANCHORWOMAN ANNOUNCED THAT LEROI MOORE HAS DIED. I GOT UP AND JUST STOOD IN FRONT OF THE TELEVISION. MY HEART DROPPED COMPLETELY AND FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING. THE FIRST THING I DID WAS CRY AND NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF MOORE'S DEATH BUT ALSO FOR HOW DAVE AND ALL THE OTHER CREW MEMBERS MUST HAVE FELT. ALL I CAN SAY NOW IS MAY LEROI REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS HIM AND THE REST OF THE BAND. I FEEL FOR YOU DAVE AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!!!!

Alexander Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 02:00 AM EST

How do you mourn someone that has given you so much of themselves without ever asking you for anything in return? There was this beautiful sound that LeRoi Moore put into a world of confusion and noise, and helped to make things seem less chaotic. The Dave Matthews Band's music has helped me through some of the roughest times in my life. Now all I can do is shed my tears for this man who never knew me but helped me all the same. All I can do is pray and tell LeRoi "thank you for everything."

Bari Saxy Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 01:38 AM EST

Things we can not change.
It was Leroy's great tone that caught my ear when I heard DMB for the first time, I was hooked. Playing Bari Sax myself, I find great pleasure playing along w/ DMB on the stereo. People starred............ Thank you Leroy for sharing your passion with us. Your notes speak louder than words can express, always will.
Things we can not change

The music industry has lost one of its brightest shining stars.
You will be missed.

LeRoi was a great sax player. 75 shows seeing him wailing on stage. The right side of the stage will never be the same. You will be missed,

Sean Harrington Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 07:46 PM EST

So much to say here about his talent, which he sent to all of his fans through the peaceful and sometimes dramatic harmony of horns, sax and image.

I am a fan not only of his talents but of his life and I will miss this man that I never met. To those who feel that people who follow bands seem distracted, or ill accomplished...I might be both, but the music they created together made me feel better about the world and our need to be one rather than divided. This is the talent, the admiration, and reason we become one for maybe one night or entire life.

RIP LeRoi and I hope the strength of the other band members continue to spread that unforgettable message of unity.
Sean...Harrington, Going to the Gorge in a few days to see you again!

LeRoi's multi-instrumental talents can never be replaced. He will be missed.

Ren Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 05:36 PM EST

I am so sad to hear of Leroi's unfortunate passing. I remember my first show at a bar in Nags Head in the spring of '91 and immediately thought they were the best band I've ever seen and they are to this day. Leroi's loss will no doubt be difficult. I pray that his family and friends are touched by such an immense outpouring of positive memories of the joy he brought to so many.

Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 04:57 PM EST

you never know when you will lose a loved one. A loved artist. An energy. It is the ..huge empty space that you are left with. To Le Roi, tohis family and to DMB, love, and please stay... Yes.. just STAY

Words cant express. Rest in peace, you will be greatly missed.

John Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 01:27 PM EST

As far as I'm concerned, LeRoi was the heart and soul of the Dave Matthews Band. Think of the beautiful harmonies and arrangements he made. He could coax sounds sweet or playful, gruff or funky from that horn. Every time he played a solo, you felt his soul pouring out right there on stage.

LeRoi, you touched my heart. You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me dance with joy. You may be gone, but your music and your spirit will live forever in my heart.

I love you, brother.

Julia504 Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Everytime is hear LeRoi Moore jam with the drummer in #41 on DMB's live CD, I cry - happy tears. My dad was a sax man and my brother was a drummer. Both have passed away and I think of them in heaven jamming when I hear that song. Maybe LeRoi can find them and join in. I know they would feel privileged as we have been hearing LeRoi play over the years. Thanks, LeRoi, for sharing your gift.

Dante Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 01:01 PM EST

This was the man and his music is the coolest!!!!

Liz Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

I've been listening to DMB religiously since I heard of the tragedy as a memorial to LeRoi. Amazingly I've noticed references to death in each and every song but with encouragement to live it to the fullest while you're here. Who'd have known. And on one of the first 3 songs was a "happy birthday" wish to LeRoi at one of the more recent concert recordings... My sincerest condolences to the entire Dave Matthews Band immediate and extended family. We are all feeling your great loss. Love always!

Mary Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 10:39 AM EST

I am going to the concert tonight, a summer ritual for the past 10 years, and it will not be the same with out LeRoi. You are missed!

Rick Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 08:02 AM EST

There are very few bands where EACH member plays such a critical role in the success of the band's music. Leroi truely made that contribution to the band's talent and will be missed.

Britt Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:47 PM EST

I am truly saddened over the loss of such as amazing soul. You will be deeply missed, LeRoi!! You and your music will live on in the hearts of so many.

The world lost an unbelievable musician today. And with Dave Matthews Band, they have lost a brother and a pivotal force in the band itself. Prayers for the members of the band, and for the LeRoi's family. RIP LeRoi Moore

2 days before his death he played in Dallas and it marked the 13 year anniversary for me seeing DMB live. It was so strange not to have him there. He will be deeply missed.

Jason Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

I also saw DMB live for the first time this year. I was disappointed to hear that LeRoi would not be performing due to his injury. He was an amazing talent on screen and on the airwaves, I'm certain that he would have been amazing in person. Cheers to you, LeRoi!

Cathryn Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 10:31 PM EST

This year was my first time seeing DMB live and, having been a fan for most of my young life, I was of course saddened by not being able to see LeRoi. Now to know that I will in fact never get to see one of the founding members of my favourite band, it's almost too hard to think about. Godspeed, LeRoi, and thank you for bringing such touching music to this world.

Why does god do this? Dave Matthews Band is the ONLY music i listen to. The band will never be the same without him. God, it was great when in the "So Much To Say" music video right at the end where he gives a big old smile, haha it was priceless. Godspeed LeRoi, your a great person, and a great musician, and your music won't be forgotten, at least by me.

Deb Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:51 PM EST

It's so very obvious by the posts of fans that we will all miss his presence on the stage but we will always have his music and the memory of his virtuosity. Nobody played the way he did. My guess is he's probably somewhere in heaven jamming with Bob Marley, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kurt Cobain, Keith Moon, Isaac Hayes and
Marvin Gaye. They were all some of the exceptional artists taken from us before their time.

jesse thomas Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

Leroi's influence on my life was profound. Thanks, Leroi, enjoy.

Haley Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

We are lifting LeRoi's family and DMB up in prayer. No show will ever be the same. The show this summer was great with Coffin filling in, but they will never be the same without him up front. The world has lost one of the greats.

CHK Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 05:53 PM EST

GOD Speed LeRoi. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world.

Alicia Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

LeRoi, thank you so much for your music--an iconic sound, a key part of an iconic band. You will be truly missed. But...heavens choir just became a jam band! ;o)

Alicia Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

JP Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 04:25 PM EST

LeRoi you made a huge impact on so many people that you can not be described. Heaven has a new angel that plays the most wonderful tune. My heart breaks knowing you are gone but you will never be forgoten and DMB will go on and always play for you.

Rana Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 03:58 PM EST

LeRoi was truly a talented artist. I enjoyed watching him play every summer. DMB, continue to play your soulful music to honor LeRoi. My prayers go out to DMB and LeRoi's family...

R squared Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

I am a native Virginian and started listening to dave matthews while they were still in their Charlottesville, VA days... though I was only 11, i still grasped the beauty in their music and LeRoi was always a huge component in that beauty. His talent brough tears to my eyes and goose bumps on more than occasions than I can count. He will be TRULY missed. RIP.

Kristina S. Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

The only thing that I can say is that Leroi was loved by all DMB fans as well as anyone that enjoys the sound of a soulful Saxaphone. I will miss his sweet music and remember him fondly. Rest in peace, LeRoi. We love you.

tony Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

It is with sorrow that we hear of the loss of a great musical genius and form a fan in South Africa my deepest condolences. You will be missed,to the band and the family you are in our hearts, play on

RIP LeRoi, your influence will live on forever. The flute in Say Goodbye made me fall in love and listening to it now I have tears in my eyes. My thoughouts are with your family, friends and bandmates.

Fyerman-1 Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

Such a GREAT talent, such a great loss. We as DMB fans have lost so much. The LeRoi family and the band have lost so much Moore. Dave Matthews Band music along with LeRoi Moores excellent sax playing have touch the core of my soul. You will truly be missed by the entire DMB community. My thoughts and prayers go out to the band and the LeRoi Moore family.

Trishelle Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

My very first DMB concert, LeRoi went into a beautiful solo that brought me to tears....it takes an amazing artist to be able to touch your soul. He will be missed by his fans and even though I never met him, I will always have a peice of what he left, with me. Thank You LeRoi.

silvia Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

Heather Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:33 AM EST

Last night, "Lie in Our Graves" from "Live at Red Rocks (8.15.95)" played on my itunes and I had to sit down. Tears rolled down my face as I listened to LeRoi's kicking solo. My friend asked, incredulously, "Why are you crying?" to which I replied "You would understand if you loved art and music as much as I do. LeRoi Moore was an artist of tremendous influence and impact. His memory and the beauty he created will live forever. Listen to the music; you'll understand." I love you, LeRoi.

Mary Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

I think the hardest part for us fans is that we've put DMB "above" our everyday lives. They are supposed to play our favorite songs over and over and over again...and take us far away from reality each time. Peace LeRoi...we will never EVER forget you <3

Dustin Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

The first time I ever saw DMB was the first time i ever fell in love with music. They say good friends and family help us get through lifes tough times, for me it was the DMB that helped surpass many of those days. DMB are brothers, and to lose family is the hardest. I love ya leroi, thanks for makin life a lil easier...you will be missed, but never forgotten..."Love is the only way."

Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

I loved him and I didn't even know him. Truly a tragic loss. His music and legacy will live on forever. My prayers to his family and friends.

Jess Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

LeRoi was an irreplaceable member of DMB and will truly be missed. Although he was quiet, his music spoke for him. His style and talent showed through in his beautiful melodies. I feel as though I have lost a very good friend…..

Daddyo Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 10:16 AM EST

Just reading some of the beautiful tributes on this page makes my eyes water. We all, as true beleivers of the DMB message, and as lovers of music, are missing this man and will be forever. Thank the industry for providing the means to watch and relive the best times of our lives over and over. Remembering Roi keeps him alive in our hearts forever.

Rolando Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 09:11 AM EST

A very good friend of mine turned me on to DMB years ago in my early 20's. From that moment it was hook, line and sinker for me. From Dave's beautiful yodels, to the abstract beats and sounds and coming from the string and rhythm section. Leroi made you want to tap your foot till your toes fell off with his sax, or fly away into your favorite dream with his flute. However its been almost 15 years since my 20's and my idea of the what the band has been to me as well as the friend of mine that turned me on to them has never changed. "One of the greatest things ever!" As unfortunate as life can be sometimes time has expired for Leroi and my friend Terry, cancer took him at the young age of 33. Leaving behind a fabulous wife and 2 beautiful children. So as Terry's children will live through his legacy of what a wonderful father he was, Leroi's music will never be forgoten for as stimulating as he was behind whatever piece he was playing at the time. Godspeed to you both Brothers, you will never be forgotten.

Juan Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 08:56 AM EST

Leroi's passing makes me realize how precious and fragile life is. I was fortunate to see the band earlier this year, and remember him jamming on "Too Much". You will be missed for a piece of this puzzle cannot be replaced. RIP. Heaven must have some band, cause the angels just added a "Bad Dude" to their horn section!

Leisa Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 08:10 AM EST

The world has lost one of the most amazing musicians ever! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Roi's family and friends, and of course, to DMB. We are so terribly saddened....

Billy Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:50 AM EST

my heart goes out to the band, Mr. Moore's family and everyone who was touched my his music. may he live on!!!

Daniel J. Snow Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:44 AM EST

This is a sad day for music. DMB are one of the most influential bands to come out in a long time and Leroi Moore added his own style which tied the band together. My prayers go out to the whole DMB and to his familes. "Hero's get remembered... Legends never die!"

MaryAnn Stolgitis Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:21 AM EST

DMB - ROCK ON, it's what he would want.

Kate Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:16 AM EST

I feel like I have lost a friend, your music has changed my life forever. You will be missed

Myron Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:35 PM EST

As I type this, I am listening to #41 from their Weekend on the Rocks compilation. It is still hard to believe that we have lost such a great talent in music. If you want to hear LeRoi play, you must listen to this song! RIP my friend!

Saddened Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

I heard "Best of What's Around" a while ago and it broke my heart. Thanks for the many years of memories, Roi. Music just seems a little duller without you now.

Tracy Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

I couldn't believe the news. It really just saddens me in a way that I can't explain. I listened to DMB back in about 93-94 when my friend's older brother gave me a recording from one of the band's local shows. It floored me. It captivated me. LeRoi was a huge part of that, and I can't believe he's gone.
LeRoi, you will be missed. Not only by your brothers in the band, friends and family, but your fans as well.

Richard Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:12 PM EST

God must have needed a sax player to round out the band. RIP LeRoi, you will be missed.

Sapna Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 10:50 PM EST

A very talented musician who will be missed. Such an important part of DMB, I know he will continue to make beautiful music in heaven.

REST IN PEACE thanks for the memories, you are and always will be deeply missed and loved

TJM Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:39 PM EST

I've been a DMB fan since before they made the big time. I'll be a DMB fan long after they are out of the spotlight. While searching for new information on LeRoi's tragic death, I've scanned what seems like thousands and thousands of pages full of posts from fans like myself. What a wonderful testament of how one man can touch so many! To the grieving members of the band: you have the support of millions to lift you up when you seem so low. This too, shall pass.

Amy Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:29 PM EST

I don't want to believe you are gone!! I have been a constant fan for a long time and can't imagine you not being there on stage! I am so sorry for the loss of your friend, family member, and band mate! Keep his spirit alive by keeping his music playing! Leroi will always be at every performance!

drewby Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:25 PM EST

When Leroi was unleashed for a solo, you could feel the whole crowd rise up. May he now rise up.

Jason Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

WOW!!! what to say....a tragic death like this is very hard to sum up in so few words. loved the way this dude played the sax...especially in "crush". a very talented man that passed WAY to young. love this dude!!! RIP

Joe Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

I've been a DMB fan for about 5 years now. My only regret is I waited so long to start enjoying the greatest musicians around. I've seen them live many, many times all over the country. They truly play from the heart and give everything to their music. You always knew Roi was speaking through his sax and ....WOW!!! could he make that horn talk. The sounds he produced will never be replicated. I feel incredibly fortunate to have seen him play live over 20 times. Roi...you will be very missed but, your music will certainly live on.

wooddoubler Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:14 PM EST

Uh boy. You people really need to get a life. Are you talking to a dead person? Because he can't hear you. Bunch of nuts!

Matthew taudevin Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:12 PM EST

sorry to hear about le roi. I hope you are all well in the Band. my thoughts are with you all.

Very sad news. I've been a fan of the Dave Matthews Band for quite a while and I've always admired all 5 members for their unique sound and artistic talent. My condolences go out to LeRoi Moore's family and friends.

craig Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 08:17 PM EST

I'm in complete distraught over this tragic occurence. The world has lost a wonderful man and even moreso an iconic saxophone artist. He's brought a smile to my face on numerous occasions and I hope he's passed with a smile on his. We love and miss Leroi Moore.

Leroi,

I have to say, it is difficult to imagine the band without your sweet sound. I know they will overcome this tragedy. Do me a favor Leroi, my sister is up there, play her a sweet solo for me. May you rest in peace brother.

RIP to a beautifully private man who only used the spotlight to bless us all with his music. LeRoi and Boyd are what separated DMB from every other musical group. LeRoi is a beautiful person and musician. He will be sorrowly missed.

tim Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

was never really a fan of DMB, but I did see Leroi play with Phish in 97. He played three Sax's at one point, prompting the Phish guys to all play multiple instruments as well. It was pretty funny and actually sounded pretty good too.

Billy Davis Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

Listening to DMB now brings back the feeling i had when michael houser of widespread panic died; sadness for his family, friends, and fans, but also happiness. Its great that he was able to be heard and to make people really smile by doing what he did best, making beautiful music with his best friends. Rest in peace leroi.

Bartender will never be the same to me.

Bunny Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

My heart cant quite comprehend yet that LeRoi is no longer with us and even more painful is that Dave, Carter, Stefan, Boyd will miss their dear friend so deeply, practically with every note they play. Just to not be able to look over and see this humble, genius of a talent standing there is so incredibly sad. But I must say, the heavens just got themselves one hell of a musician. We were blessed to have him grace us with his music for so many years. He will be missed so deeply. Peace LeRoi, we love you!

Sarah Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

My thoughts and prayers go out to LeRoi's family and friends. He will be sorely missed.... For anyone out there reading this, I've been listening to UTTAD for the past 3 days straight and he was AMAZING. I recommend No. 34, Typical Situation and Lover Lay Down for die-hard fans and casual fans alike to really know and understand what a talented musician LeRoi was, is and always will be. Remember Two Things: "Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die" and "celebrate...because life is short but sweet for certain." RIP LeRoi!

Joe Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

i just saw the band in june and they were amazing what a very sad loss for us all

We have lost a great talent here on earth, however, the angels in heaven are rejoicing in the sweet sounds of Moore's sax. Great sympothy goes out to his family and fellow band members.

shawn Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Leroi's beautiful music helped me through so many hard times in my life. He gives the band the smooth touch that makes it so unique. Like so many people have said here, it is like losing a close friend. RIP Leroi, you will never be forgotten...

Colleen Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

I was deeply saddedned to hear of LeRoi's passing. As a DMB fan for the past 15 years and having the pleasure to follow the band; my heart hurts for LeRoi's family and the boys. His musical accomplishments will remain forever in our hearts and souls. I am just thankful that i was able to attend the Nissan show 2 nights before his accident. The music industry has lost one of its greatest members and the world has lost a wonderful individual. We will keep his music and memory alive!!

Virginia Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

Leroi, you gave us all the incredible gift of your music played from the soul. Your music will continue on and so will you in our hearts forever. Even though I never met you, I felt a deep personal connection to the music. DMB has been an inspiration of mine for so long because of how giving the guys all are of themselves in life in love and in music. Leroi you will be missed. My condolences to the guys and all of the Moore family. Leroi was a gift to the world.

Pete Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 02:01 PM EST

What can I say, LeRoi, you were, and still are one of my heroes. I am a fellow sax player and you, and the band have inspired me in many ways. You will be missed, but not forgotten, as your music will continue to inspire me for the rest of my days. Thank you, and may you rest in peace.

LKessler Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

What a shame. DMB will never be the same, but what a joy it was to have such bluesy talent for as long as we all did. He will be missed in the music world, for sure.

Jill Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 01:52 PM EST

I'll never forget the late 90's summers, following DMB all over the country. What an awesome time of my life. I can still re-live it for a night when they visit my town every year. But, it will never be the same without LeRoi. RIP, LeRoi, and thanks for making me look at music in a whole new light.

DandR Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 01:31 PM EST

As Dave said 'it's easier to leave than be left' . . . and my heart hurts for those of us left! I'll forever feel your presence on stage and feel my spirt lift as I recall the beautiful melodies that came from your breath. God Bless your soul LeRoi and God speed to the rest of us to move forward without you.

Mase Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

I have listened to the Dave Matthews Band religiously for the past 7 years of my life and i know the is it not only a heart wrenching loss for the Dave Matthews band but for the entire music community as well. As i sit and listen to the sax solo at the end of the popular Jimi Thing i find my self missing Leroi more and more by each melodic note. Leroi you will be truly missed.

denise t Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:50 PM EST

My heart is broken, that's for sure
For we will hear the sweet sounds of Leroi's sax no more.
The music that he shared with us,
was pure and oh so sweet
and our ears will forever long
for the sounds that were such a treat
I cry for Leroi's family and the boys in the band,
for the beautiful sound they gave us
was never better in the land
So let us join together on this sad and mournful day
and keep his spirit with us in each and every way
goodby dear Leroi, we'll miss you at the next show
but we'll meet again someday
over the rainbow ~

Holden Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

I'm from Singapore and I've been a huge DMB fan since 1998. Like all of you, I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn about LeRoi's passing. His contribution to the DMB sound will never be forgotten and it is really painful to listen to the songs now. But I'm sure he is in a better place somewhere over the rainbow and may he rest in peace. I can only say I'm glad to have witnessed LeRoi's amazing talent live after specially flying to Melbourne to catch the DMB concert last year. It was a great show and I will remember it forever. LeRoi, you will be missed...

Jen Central FL Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

"life is short but sweet for certain" RIP LeRoi! You'll always be remembered for your talent!

Jen Central FL Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:38 PM EST

I and my fellow "Ants" & "Dancing Nancy's" will miss LeRoi very much! We are all deeply inspired by the music Dave Matthews Band creates and its heartbreaking to know that one of the main influences in the band will no long be there physically. DMB music touches the soul and can p

I have been to over 110 DMB shows in my life. I have been chasing them around the US for 12 years... Not one person in the band has ever stood out to me, I just have always loved the collaboration of all the musicians and voices. I will miss seeing Leroi on the stage as I continue to follow DMB. It wont be the same, but as Dave said, its easier to leave than be left. I will enjoy his music for the rest of my life with all of the recordings I have. RIP Leroi.

ctt27 Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:18 PM EST

I am deeply saddened by LeRoi's passing. I have been a DMB fan for a very long time and have been lucky enough to attend many of their shows. I guess it was his time to 'step into the light'. This is the best band around but.. it will never be same. RIP LeRoi! Thank you for the gift that you have left the ones who have always appreciated it. Im still in shock..

Colin Brammell Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

When I first began listening to DMB a few years ago I fell in love with the music, and losing one of the band members is like losing one of my own family members. LeRoi will be missed very much but the sound of his soothing music will live on forever. My heart and prayers go out to the family and the band.

DallasDMBfan Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

I remember on a Storyteller's episode, LeRoi actually sat down along side Dave and Carter for a short interview. He said that there are certain shows where he didn't realize the lyrics Dave was singing...one night he realized the words he was saying and thought "Oh - man, that is SPECIAL" They way he said it made both Carter and Dave crack up. I still have that episode on Tivo and watched it over and over last night. I love it.
There is no replacing you, LeRoi. Ever. Love you!

ini Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:01 PM EST

i stayed at his house, my children played with him. he helped me when i was down and tryin to get up. he was an intelligent, beautiful cat. we love you leroi.

My heart broken when I heard the news about LeRoi. I've been a DMB fans for years and seen them dozens of times. It won't be the same with Roi. Rest in peace, friend. You will be missed forever.

stuart Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

I am so saddened by LeRoi's passing. He was a really great guy, and a gifted musician. His playing and arrangements added a unique depth to DMB's songs. Tragic doesn't begin to describe the loss. My heart goes out to Dave, Carter, Stephan, and Boyd, as well as the rest of the DMB family.

DHC Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:55 AM EST

I have had the pleasure of meeting LeRoi twice. I have also met some of his family members, all of whom were very nice. What an wonderful person with an incredible gift. He will be missed. While I hope that DMB will go on for many more years, it just won't be the same without him...

dan Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:51 AM EST

have been a dmb fan since 1995 and have always loved to kick back and listen to all the different elements that make up DMBS great songs and one of those was LeRoi saxaphones skills....nothing better than a summer night at Alpine Valley listening to the band play and it wont be the same without you LeROi....RIP

Kevin Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:45 AM EST

I saw DMB not that long ago, sans LeRoi, at the Rothbury Festival in MI. It was great, but something was missing. I took solace in the fact that LeRoi would be back after his recovery in a few months (or, God forbid, a year or so).

I guess not. Rest easy, friend.

SRSD Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:42 AM EST

I had the pleasure of meeting LeRoi and at my very first DMB concert. It was an unforgettable moment for me. LeRoi will be missed and DMB won't be the same without him. RIP LeRoi

Ryan Douglas Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM EST

The music of Dave Matthews Band has meant a lot to me in my life, and helped me through some tough times. As a saxophone player myself, Roi's playing especially was a comfort to me whenever I needed it. He will be sorely missed by friends, family, and fans, but his music will live on.

I feel as if a member in my own family has passed. LeRoi Moore was one of the greatest sax players ever to live. He had such a sweet, soothing demeaner about the way he played. SO smooth he was, and could brightened up the day of any listener. My prayers are with the band and families of this legendary man who played for the best band ever to play. I love and i'm gonna miss you LeRoi. We all will

Beaver Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

LeRoi was an amazing talent, and you can hear that talent in every DMB song. Thank you for leaving us the gift of your music LeRoi. God speed to you and prayers to your family and loved ones.

Jess Ross Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:20 AM EST

I have been a huge fan of DMB for years. I am so sad to hear of his passing, he was an incredible musician and the chemistry that he had with the band made the music unforgettable. There is nothing like DMB and he will be truly missed. I loved watching him perform live, and nothing can compare with his sound. I pray him music will live on forever.

Rocky Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:17 AM EST

Leroi Moore was soft and quiet. Barely sang any backups but he played with heart which is the hardest thing to teach a musician. He will be hard to replace in DMB. So sad to see you go friend.

Brandon S Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

One of the greatest bands of all time has lost one of the greatest musicians of all time. He will be missed.

Melissa Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

I always wished to hear LeRoi play the flute solo on Say Goodbye, live. The first thing I did once I heard about his passing was play it off of Crash. I just saw him (and the band) this summer for the 4th time. I feel so lucky to have gone to the show. Rest in Peace LeRoi!We'll miss you...

chmcla Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

I was at the show Wednesday night at Staples- the tributes continued to Roi. The whole place was chanting "LeRoi-LeRoi" as the band came on stage- you could tell it was difficult for them. Dave shared some great memories with the audience. Roi will be missed.

That was the 11th DMB show I've been to and by far the best performance yet.

Jack Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 10:32 AM EST

Saw dave and the boys a long, long time ago "along the row" (you Hoos will know) and LeRoi's notes were rich an powerful way back then. I am sure the boys mourn the loss of their brother and friend. Something I learned way back then, as friends come and go in our life, how they effect change in our lives, that is what's important.
LeRoi, you taught many cynics that fewer words and more action is the way to affect change.
The night shift in heaven has earned another lead brass man, and the orchestra has added more sweet notes to the melody.

DaveFan - CA Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

I was at the concert Tuesday night at Staples when Dave announced this horrible news. It was heartbreaking to see the torment in the band's eyes, holding back their tears. I commend them for performing during such a difficult time, and I must say...it was the best DMB I have ever witnessed. Peace be with you LeRoi - you are in a better place.

Sorry to hear this news. DMB helped snatch the radio out of the mouths of disinfranchised kids from Seattle in the mid-90's. LeRoi was a huge part of that. Thanks for the good music, brother.

I've been a fan of DMB for over 13 years. I have seen the band more times than I can count, and LeRoi's music is a huge part of what makes the band. We have witnessed an era, and I feel blessed to have taken part. Although the band may play on, the music will never be the same. There are no words to express the sadness that we as fans feel, but I know it pales in comparison to the heart ache and loss experienced by his family and friends. Rest in peace, LeRoi. And to Dave, Boyd, Carter, Stephan, and LeRoi's family: you are in the thoughts and prayers of millions.

I first heard of DMB in 1994 listening to bootlegs a friend of mine had in Glacier Park. I always wanted to see DMB and I have been a huge fan, but alas I never did get to see it live. I am afraid missing out will haunt me for a long time. RIP LeRoi. I loved your jams.

LeRoi gave the Dave Matthews Band its wings. His melodies took songs to a higher level, and his talent and character will be missed.

I thank you for all the years of dedication and am happy now to know you are no longer in pain. Your memory will live on through your bandmates and your fans, as well as those that loved you most. I miss you already.

Leroi will be forever missed...DMB will never be the same

lazzyk Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 09:06 AM EST

It's a sad time for the music world, to have lost such a wonderful sax player and a seemingly great man. I have seen DMB many times in concert. I'm deeply saddened to think that June 6, 2008 was the last time I would see LeRoi on stage. But his music will live on forever in the hearts of all DMB fans. To LeRoi's family, Dave, Carter, Stefan and Boyd: when you begin to miss LeRoi, take a moment to stop and stand still. That breeze you feel, the tinkle of a windchime that seems to come from nowhere--that's LeRoi stoping in to say hello.(If you look at just the right moment, you might even see him.) Take comfort in the knowledge that he's probably smiling as he performs sax accompanyments to the Angel's harps in heaven, and watchiing over those he loved.
Rest in Peace, LeRoi. You will be missed, but your soul lives on forever! God Bless.

I hope that your grave is dug shallow so that you can feel the rain of our tears forever. May you always live on through the sweet sound of that sax.

I've been crying ever since you left us. The stage will never look the same without you. The music will never be as perfect. But your soul will live on forever in the music that you made. "Life is short but sweet for certain." RIP LeRoi <3

Dave Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 08:32 AM EST

He was the best damn sax player to ever pick up a reed. His personality on stage was presented through his music. I have never seen him crack a smile on stage, but when he played he always dropped a funny or quirky melody to add something that only Carter could bring to the music. He will be missed and I am proud to say I have seen him.

"It's easier to leave than to be left." says it all. You were a true friend of mine. Closer than my own best friends. You talked to me in ways nobody else could. For that I thank you for everything you have done for me these past 15 years. You will live on in the hearts of many, many friends, fans and family.

We knew LeRoi from way back in 1980's in Charlottesville. My husband David used to jam with LeRoi and Carter. He was a complex man, with music running through him like a deep moving river. Blessings to his soul and love to all the members of DMB. Keep up the great music!

mary Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 06:27 AM EST

He was the best. A quiet presence who spoke so eloquently through his music. I will never listen to somewhere over the rainbow without thinking of him.

LeRoi, I'll miss hearing your sound fill up DMB's tracks. You've inspired me with your music. May you rest in peace and your family and friends find peace in this time of your passing. God keep you.

Mike Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:48 AM EST

At a time my musical tastes wandered into jazz, Under the Table and Dreaming came out and LeRoi and DMB were a major bridge from jazz to rock to me. I'm still trying to make sense of it, and why it feels like I lost someone quite close to me. Having seen DMB 15 times, LeRoi just lit up the stage every time he played--#41, Bartender, the One Sweet World intro, on an on. DMB will go on, but it won't ever be quite the same. Truly, a master musician who has blessed us with some wonderful memories. You made me cry before with your beautiful playing, and I cried yesterday when I read the news of your passing.

Ken C. Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:42 AM EST

Mike Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 02:06 AM EST

When you look back at your life there are those people the influence you directly and indirectly. The members of DMB, LeRoi included, have had perhaps the most profound indirect impact on me. Some of my greatest moments are DMB concerts and trips to the Gorge. Perhaps the strongest link between all my friends is DMB. DMB is not what it is today without LeRoi. All I can say is thank you for providing me with memories that I'll cherish forever and will last a lifetime. I don't think we're all able to comprehend just how much we'll miss you yet.

I couldn't believe it when my husband told me. I wish we would have been able to see the "real" DMB together. Those are some big shoes to fill, although I doubt they'd exactly replace him. His sound will be missed.
