Q&A: 'Big Brother' evictee Libra: Jerry is a dirty old man!

Aug 15, 2008, 03:42 PM | by Lynette Rice

Categories: An EW Exclusive!, Reality TV, Television

Libra_l Having been unanimously evicted last night, Libra Thompson is the first tenant of the Big Brother jury house! Since her job now is to figure who should win the $500,000, we can’t ask her about things she hasn’t seen or heard while playing the game -- like who Renny, the new head of household, will put up for nomination on Sunday, or whether April is better looking than Keesha (seriously, like there’s even a question). But we can ask her about going to Hawaii, her thoughts about Jerry, and whether April was right to think she sucks at veto competitions.

POPWATCH: First, a question that I believe is on the mind of every woman who watches this show: Why does it seem like you and the other gals have endless supplies of clothing, and yet we only see you walk out with a relatively small gym bag?

LIBRA THOMPSON: I brought an enormous suitcase, over 100 pounds in weight. It was worth it for sure. You definitely need to have outfits to look as fresh as you can if you’re going to be in the house for three months. We also did a lot of mixing and matching.

Almost immediately, Julie hit you with the question about leaving your small children to play the game. How much was this an issue in the house? Did your fellow players talk about it?

My fellow players respected my decision. No one threw that in my face. They wouldn’t have the nerve. Most understood that at the end of the day, I could win $500,000 for my kids.

Let’s go back to that fateful veto competition when you took the Hawaiian trip away from Michelle. Did you give the letters a thought?

This is the most ridiculous thing to me, people asking me why I didn’t get the letter from home. You play the game with the idea that you’re going to eventually win HOH, and one of the perks of being HOH is getting a letter from home. In that moment I was thinking not only can I [eventually] win HOH, I can also get a trip to Hawaii!

Michelle was so angry.

She did not handle it well at all. She threw a tantrum and cried halfway through the night. I can honestly say that if the shoe was on the other foot, she would have taken the trip.

At the feast, you made a sarcastic comment about Keesha wanting to wear some of April’s new clothes. It got back to Keesha, who immediately gave you crap.

Honestly, what I really meant to say was that she was kissing April’s ass. If you’ve seen the show, you’ve seen Keesha in one room, sharing her true feelings about April, but when we’re all together, she’s like, 'I never had any problem with you!' Blah blah, I’m calling bulls--- on that! I was over it at the feast. I started thinking, "April is your friend today, Keesha, but tomorrow, she’ll be a b----, just like you’re always calling her."

You and April ultimately seemed like a bad combo. Why did you align with her?

It’s one of those things that you tend to think that, for the moment, it’s going to work but it’s not going to be for the duration.

April didn’t think you could be counted on to win veto comps.

That made me mad, and then I won, so…kiss my a--!

Jessie told everyone that a banner flown over the house said something about how you couldn’t be trusted. Did you believe him?

I just want to say, I was little bit proud to have a banner. Who has banners? At least people know my name. My thought was "Oh, s---, this will mess me up from a strategic standpoint." Now banners are going up with my name attached! I think everyone took it with a grain of salt, though it gave them something to wonder about. I honestly don’t know what the banner said, though April had her suspicions. She said what if it said Keesha was a liar? (Editor's note: A CBS insider said the banner had nothing to do with the game.)

What are your thoughts about Jerry?

Jerry is a dirty old man. There are things he did in that house that you guys need to see on YouTube. He’s not gingerly [sic] or grandfather-y. He loves the women, and he loves to keep himself in the mix as much as I do, but Jerry stands behind the honor of being a Marine, the whole truth and loyal thing, while at same time throwing as much dirt and lies around as everybody else.

Did you think he was going to exercise the veto this week?

I thought, honestly Jerry, you are killing me. Calling Dan a Judas?  I thought it was a bit much. And if he was going to use it, I thought he was going to save Keesha.

Who do you think is going make it to the final two?

Honestly, this game is a toss-up. Typically in other seasons the stronger players throw out weaker ones in the beginning, but it has flip-flopped this time. I have no idea.

Who is your favorite BB player of all time?

Everyone loves Janelle, while I like Will. He’s the puppet master, while apparently I am the puppet mistress. I’m going to take that with honor!

Jerry IS a dirty old man! My husband and I both have said all season "the only thing worse than a fool is an OLD FOOL" and that is what Jerry is if he thinks he has a chance in hell to win this game!

WHYYYYYY do people make a big deal about libra not taking the letter from home. Okay hear this... Libras kids are babies.. cant write or talk... so it would just be a letter from her husband or mother. now michelle would have got a letter from her mother.. so whats the difference... having a letter from your husband saying..hey the twins had the biggest sh*t of their life yesterday! like come on michelle is a baby and i didnt like libra but wtf michelle needs to go.. shes strirring the pot and confusing people.

ps- my favorite part was in the HOH room after the feast and keesha michelle april and libra were all drinking i think michelle and keesha were by far the drunkest and the fight started.. keesha was hilarious.. i think bb should give the house guests more to drink it would make the game WAYYYYY more interesting.

Dont you have to accomplish something to be puppet mistress? Will won twice (yes, I'm counting Boogie's win, he couldnt have done it without Will). Libra won 9th place, what a master manipulator!

Wojo Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

It makes absolutely no sense when Libra and other people say that the stronger players were voted out by weaker players. The simple fact that Libra was voted out before 8 other people makes her a weaker player than all 8 of those people. It doesn't matter how they achieved it (multiple alliances, back-stabbing, lying, being a floater, flying under the radar). Use whatever cliches you want, but if they make it further than you than they are stronger in this game than you. This isn't like a sports league where we can compare stats before the competition starts. You're only as good as you do, and Libra came in 9th, better than 4 other people, but worse than 8 others.

1 Question- DID Libra get the $1K from April? After she promised it, their alliance broke up. Did BB force April to keep her promise?

Tom Brazelton Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:46 AM EST

There sure are a lot of Libra apologists in these comments. It's true that mothers leave their children to work and earn money for their benefit - but Big Brother is a completely OPTIONAL decision with no grantee of a paycheck at the end. You might as well play the lottery if that's your justification.

Esther Greenwood Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:23 AM EST

Libra didn't get "nothing" for going on the show. She gets a weekly stipend, essentially a paycheck, for every week she stays in. She also got $1k from April from POV and a trip to Hawaii. I was far from Libra's biggest fan, but I find it absolutely ridiculous that people are condemning her for leaving her children for the two and a half months it will take to play this game. If she was a man, would you people still point fingers? Clearly from the BB segment, her children are well taken care of and her family supports the decision she made. Get over it.

It's amazing to see all the hypocrites , who sit for hour after hour watching people cuss, lie , cheat, steal, and manipulate each other for the chance to win half a million dollars, and then judge and criticize them for the actions they take. It's as if they are somehow morally superior because they merely watch the show. On the contrary, when you allow garbage like this in your home along with Survivor, Hell's Kitchen, Moment Of Truth, etc., you're an equal participant. Furthermore, in Libra's defense there's plenty of men and women who leave their infant children for months and years at a time to go earn money and things for the family and a host of them are serving this country in the military at this very moment. No one has to live their life exactly like anyone else and sometimes in order to make a meaningful life decision you have to choose the less popular road even if its uncomfortable for a while.

I was extremely happy to see the two guys leave, I didn't mind Angie, or Libra... although Libra seemed not to be able to handle her emotions. She was quite explosive. Hard to image her as a HR Manager? Condemming her for taking the trip instead of a letter from home was ridiculous. She probably brought along with her plenty of letters. I'm hoping for Jerry to go up,..and perhaps Memphis. That would be fun. -- but I don't expect that will happen, probably Dan will go up. He's actually the only one I'm for. Too bad being America's player has ultimately put him in jeopardy.

well tracy the thing is people who go on business trips are in fact getting paid while libra left her family for nothing, except a national audience. wouldnt working a real job help more?

tracy Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 12:39 AM EST

Alot of people think that leaving your home for three months is like being a bad parent. But I personaly believe Libra went there intending on winning that money to help her family. To me its no different then a women going to work everyday. There is women out there that have babies, kids and stillgo out of town for business trips for who knows how long. Whats the difference there? And Libra you did what you had to,thats all that matters!

Ashely Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 12:08 AM EST

LIBRA is the greatest!!!!! They are still talking about her even as she is chilling in the jury house. No matter how viewers personally feel about her, they cannot deny that she made the ratings for the show this season, the show is NOTHING without her. I have not watched BBAD since Wednesday morning and I do not miss it!!! Other houseguests and viewers are just made that Libra did not come in the house desparate to win the money, but rather to enjoy the experience. She has a life to go home to after the show, I cannot say the same for the others who do not win the show. Remember six additional houseguests my accompany Libra in the jury house. You all are glad that she is out of the house...NOW WHAT!! The HGs cannot blame her for their actions anymore!! The show is BORING!!!! The best revenge is to live well and after this show that is exactly what Libra is going to do..."AMERICA"!

Muziguru Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

Just as I thought...a real "classless act" has left the building...er..house

Jennifer Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

Libra knew what she was doing, and she deserved everything she got! Enjoy the trip without your kids. You are Mother of the Year, and I do mean MOTHER.........Keesha is better then April inside and out

ianl Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

I think she tried to play the game well, but she tried to get away with soo many things in the open. And the whole "I am the puppet mistress", I think that distinction should go to Danielle from BB3. A much better player and manipulator.

beachpup Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 08:44 AM EST

I respect Libra now more than ever. She should have stayed.

Sina Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 12:08 AM EST

Well apparently Libra, Brian and Angie werent' the real "players" in the game if they were some of the one voted out. The so-called "floaters" this season are really playing the game. And by Libra's house it really looked like she needed 50,000. She just wanted to be on a reality tv show and used that excuse about needing that money to justify her leaving her kids.

brandy Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 08:53 PM EST

libra is totaly crazy for one who leaves their newborn babies to go away for three months and two act like a crazy person in front of god and america

zpydah Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

Libra is do delusional.. our interview at RealityBitesBack.com asks her the hard questions as well, and she obviously has a different take on reality tv, and reality in general, than the rest of us do!!

Corran Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

Libra hit the nail on the head. The stronger players have been voted out by the weak players this season. Angie, Brian, and Libra were all "players" of the Big Brother game.

Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

Keesha's prettier.

Snarf Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 06:38 PM EST

Sort of throws me that people always act so devestated and betrayed, when their can only be one winner and their all there for the same thing. However rational thought and actions don't garner ratings do they?

Fatima Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

I wish Libra had made F2. She was one of the few people who played the game. And with a batch this dumb, they were afraid that she could actually plan things out. If she had just won a few comps, she could have gone far. Go...Dan??

Dee Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

Good interview. I don't like Jerry and now I know for sure that he's not right. He's a very judgmental person and he has no right to be. What a hypocrite.

Who could understand Jessie. That dude's not too bright. I saw Jessie on the morning show and all I can say is wow..that guy is weird.

Wojo Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

This was infinitely more coherent than Jessie's interview. I still think Libra's comment at the feast about Keesha was sarcastic at the time. I think Libra is now claiming that it was her calling Keesha out because Libra has nothing to lose. If they thought she was being a b****, then she might as well take credit for it. It's not like it matters now.
