'Teen Choice Awards' recap: So THAT'S why people worship the Jonas Brothers!

Aug 5, 2008, 02:32 PM | by Annie Barrett

Categories: I saw it, so you don't have to!, Music, Ouch! That was my ear!, Television, Those Crazy Kids!

Jonasbrothers_l They can FLY. I had no idea! During last night's Teen Choice Awards, the dark 'n' stormy second coming of Hanson "hung out" above the crowd in a stunt almost as pointless as their steady stream of candid YouTube videos. I love how the one on the right (just looked it up: It's Kevin!!!) seems to be carefully mapping out a route through the watermelon-gum-infused ether of teens and their choices. The trio's flying was apparently "powered by the screams of teenage girls," but if that were true, they would have been up there the entire time, hoisted higher and higher every time Miley Cyrus barked out something bossy and petulant. Older man Rainn Wilson only had to mention the word "brothers" for the entire audience to start SCREECHING in anticipation. Alas, the Jonas Brothers (agggggggghhhhhhhhh!) have floated up to heaven, where they'll fit right in, because the sodas there really do cost $50.

Other Teen Choice highlights included repeated cuts to Jerry O'Connell (O'Connell Cam was to Teen Choice as Nicholson Cam is to the Oscars), Mariah Carey hitting the high notes just one shade lower than the tonal range only dogs can hear, and an award called -- seriously -- Choice MySpacer. (Something called a "Ryan Sheckler" won.) The winners are listed here, and this concludes the mini-est TV Watch in history. Leave your reactions to the show -- and creatively spelled shrieks because I used the word "brothers" three times -- in the comments. (Cranky complaints beginning with "When I was a kid..." will also suffice.)

I personally do not understand why people get so obsessed over celebrities (like the Jonas Brothers). If you like them, great. If not, that's fine too. But why fight with someone when their opinion differs? Seriously, either way, its kind of rediculous.

I actually like the Jonas Brothers. I'm glad they are posative role models for young kids, like my siblings.

Peace.

Darius Sanchez Wed, Aug 13, 2008 at 05:31 AM EST

The Jonas Brothers never died for me so why should i worship them.

They're not amazing, and are not worthy of my praise.

Don't you girls have something to live for. Don't waste life worshiping, obsessing and idolizing them.

It makes me cry everytime i hear the phrase "oh my JONAS" :(

taylor Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 12:11 AM EST

PS>> it sucks that everyone only sees them as disney clones. their crappiest songs are the "most popular" ones. like s.o.s. hold on. year 3000. kids of the future. burnin' up. those songs are horrible. if you listen to the songs that are buried on their album and never released as singles.. they're much better. ex. inseparable [my fave]. take a breath. hello beautiful. goodnight and goodbye. games. australia. just friends. hollywood. those are the songs worth listening to.

taylor Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

[in reference to a previous commenter] you do REALIZE [see i can spell] that they actually CAN fly. or at least joe can. he has wings. he said so in an interview. lol. [in reference to the $50 soda thing] wow. you're dumb. if you actually pay attention to the video. you would notice that they say that the sodas cost $65 and use that as the reason that the "$50 bill" [which is actually a 10] won't work in the machine. and i happen to love their videos. they make my day.

gracia Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

they are realy amazing love you JB hope to meet you some day!!!!

ciara Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 10:57 PM EST

the jonas brothers rock!!!! they are better than anyone else i have heard. they are very unique and don't need anyone else to make them famous. they maybe part of disney but they are more that just that. people need to see past the disney cloak in their lives to see the real them. that is me opinion.

anonymous Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

u do realise they cant acctually fly...its just strings attached to them.

tiana Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 10:07 PM EST

i don't car eif the jonas brothers come 4 in the rating of the pop teens coz in my eyes they will always come first '

Ash Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

The Jonas Brothers believe in their music. Just because they don't cuss, and have half-naked girls in their videos doesn't mean they aren't good. They write their music the way they want too, it's very possible that not every artist(s) out there feels the need to write inappropriate words in there music. The Jonas Brothers make the music they want to make, they aren't the type of people to sell out. They had a record out before Disney Channel even looked their way. They have goals in life, and are wonderful to their fans. They actually pay attention to them, unlike most artists, who once they hit fame just mention their fans when they are up there receiving an award. You may not like their type of music but that's no need to bash them because of it. It's their art and nobody has the right to dis anybody else's form of art! Simple as that!

ann Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

i have no problem with the jonas brothers they're okay but i don't really listen to them they're a bit too kiddie for me.

megC Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 07:55 PM EST

My favorite moment was definitely when Demi Lovato - the girl Disney is grooming to be the next Hannah Montana - got up to present and the camera went to a shot of Kate Bosworth talking to Chad Michael Murray and you could clearly read her lips as saying, "Who is that?" and Chad shrugged.

katie Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

omg nick u have my heart!!!! the jonas brothers flying is the best thing that could of happenend!! MILEY CYRUS SUCKS!

McKenziie Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

Oh and i would so lick joe jonas. Too bad he probably wouldn't let me! hahaha. I would marry Nick. He's soo adorable and shy. and to all the girls that claim their going to marry one of those boys... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!

McKenziie Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 03:02 PM EST

I used to just like them for their looks, but once I started listening to their music, I realized that their looks are just a bonus. I think Kevins the cutest one, but thats just my opinion. It is America. Gotta love it. But you really should watch what you say, these guys are really nice and good to their fans, and they do make good music, I don't like every single song, but the one I do like are awesome and they deserve the fans they have, even if they are crazy and loud. hahaha! GOTTA LOVE IT!

holly Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 01:33 PM EST

First of I'd like to say, the very first comment, is rude. We have the right to say we love, Kevin, Joe, or Nick all we want.
Now about the entry. Wow, sorry that the Jonas Brothers are makin history every day. They beat Hanson out in a heart beat. Jonas, made the cover of Rolling Stones. JB is the youungest band to do that. Also, yes, the fans did scream becasue not only are they good looking, but they have goals for themselves, and they're inspiring young men. I unerstand you were "stating an opinion" but then to completeley hapr on them is just blunt and rude. I realize they're a band, but to some people they've literally saved lives. Listen to what they're music says. It's relatable and inspiring.

So, keep the rude comments to yourself, they're making their dreams come true, and changing the world while they do it.

By the way:
Kevin-Strongest man alive.
Joesph-Makes me laugh like no other.
Nick-Love of my life.

e-mail me with anything you've got to say.

iluvarchie<3iluvjonas Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 07:39 AM EST

Ummm, its kind of embarassing to see some of the comments here like "omj nick ur so hott" or "we were offered tickets and backstage passes to the jonas brothers but we didnt take them" first of all your probably lying and CONFESSING UR LOVE FOR THEM ON EVERY SINGLE INTERNET BLOG OUT THERE WONT GET THEM TO NOTICE U OR ANYTHING. Its just strange, and dont get me wrong the jonas brothers are really talented and have good looks but there is a place for jonas fans to freak out and thats a fan site!!!!!

gina Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 05:38 AM EST

haha the flying thing made me laugh lol
& there videos are so stupid its just funny :)..but i thnk thats on purpose.
anyways im so glad they won all those awards
& whats wrong wih ryan sheckler? lmfao

Jadyn Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 10:23 PM EST

I love the Jonas Brothers i think they are so so so so hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love there music too all i wanna do is see there concert and marry Nick Jonas !!!!

Niquester Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

I'm getting really tired of this. There seriously is no point to all the arguments. If you like the Jonas Brothers, then great. If you don't like them, that's fine too!

What I don't like is when people say "I don't listen to the Jonas Brothers. I listen to GOOD music." That's such an idiotic statement. What exactly IS good music? Bands and musicians that aren't mainstream? That's what I seem to get from a lot of comments, and not only here of course. It's stupid. If I like something, I WILL keep listening to it, regardless if you think it's good or not. And I DON'T listen to things just because they're popular. I listen to anything and everything, including the Jonas Brothers. And I HATE it when people lump fans together and say that we only like them because of they're looks or just because everyone else does. Although it may be true for some, IT'S NOT TRUE FOR EVERYONE. A lot of us like them just because we like them. End of story, so back off!

jenny Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:33 PM EST

I think the jonas brothers like rule out every musician. i just heart their songs, esp S.O.S and burning up. they're so hot! and rock on nick!!!!!!!

ashleigh Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:25 PM EST

Ruby Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 07:42 PM EST

Woahhhh, whats with all the fighting?Honestly, the Jonas Brothers aren't really worth much argument. We all have different opinions,I really think some jonas fans take this a little too far.I used to hate the Jonas Brothers, but even when I did,I knew they were talented.I just didn't like them because they were just enterprise. It was my opinion completely,I wasn't trying to turn people against them,I just didn't like them. And people just didn't like me,because I didn't like them.I didn't understand why people expected me to agree with them, and like the Jonas Brothers because they do.I didn't expect them to hate the Jonas Brothers with me,I JUST DIDN'T LIKE THEM!Girls even had their boyfriends trip me no the stairs.I still stuck by what I beleived though,I shouldn't have to agree, its America.
Now about a year later,I'm going into 8th grade, and I acctually have alot more respect for them. They have a lot of talent, they're very good to their fans and they are role models.Rock on!

leah and becca Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 07:39 PM EST

Jonas Brothers are talented musicians and vocalists, they are generous to fans, funny, charming and all three of them are gorgeous. It is really difficult not to love them, I am 20 btw. I know they will last a really long time.

veonka rios Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:10 PM EST

Julie Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:28 AM EST

okay so i am a BIG jonas brothers fan and i'm very proud to say it!!
the jonas brothers are an amazing band and they also happen to be amazing people. i definately agree that the teen choice awards were over-rated but seriously give those boys a break!! they are just as talented or better than any other artist out there right now. if u don't like their music that's your deal but don't hate on them because of who they are personally. Last time i checked there was no harm in having a purity ring and encouraging little kids to not have sex before marriage. so word to those jonas-haters out there: when u have kids are u gonna want ur kids to listen to squeaky clean bands like the jonas boys or jailbirds like 50 cent? idk personally i'll take the jonases.
peace love and jonas

GetOverYourself Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 06:19 AM EST

Why do the Jonas Brothers have to please YOU, anyway? Get over yourself! And why are they held to a higher standard than other artists who are popular right now? They write their songs, play instruments, are true gentlemen, have standards & values, and treat people with respect. What more do do they have to do to get some respect? I'm an older fan who has met them and been to 2 concerts (3rd coming up) and I really enjoy their shows and respect them as people and as artists. If you attended one of their concerts, you would be blown away. Honest. Give them a try. But if you want r-rated lyrics, scantily-clad booty-shaking girls, or crotch-grabbing singers, you will be disappointed. But if you want to have a GREAT time, watch the show that these guys put on. It's impressive. Don't knock them 'til you've tried them.

Dana Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:22 AM EST

I love the Jonas Brothers and hating on them only make you look like the idiot. While they are out making millions, you're complaining/whining on your computer about how much you hate them... hmmm... who has the bad end of the deal here? Because pathetic comments from haters only fuse the love from the fans. The more you hate, the more we love JB, the more we sell out all of their concerts, buy all their albums. So in the end, you'r just making the JB richer. Jonas Brothers forever!

Shelly Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:47 AM EST

I thought Miley Cyrus was full of herself, and rude towards ACDC who did every bit as good or better then M&M cru.

lisa Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:37 AM EST

The Jonas brothers were amazing at Teen Choice! I was there! I loved them flying over! Their style is hot and they have great personalities! Plus i love their music!! woo hooo

Melanie Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:20 AM EST

But I do agree that the Teen Choice awards are Disney-dominated and really were kinda painful to watch. It is worth noting that one of the awards, the Do-Something Award, was given to a non-celebrity teen activist who had made a difference in the world. This award, unlike the Choice Myspacer, is one that should be continued as it is a great way to recognize teens for all the hard work they do trying to make a difference through positive change instead of wasting time making negative and insulting comments.

Melanie Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:05 AM EST

Maddie is absolutely right. Since the Jonas Brothers sing about what is considered wholesome and not offensive/inappropriate they provide good role models for pre-teen girls which is the dominant demographic of the Disney market. Maybe the Jonas Brothers would have more fans in the teenage boy demographic if their lyrics were more offensive or whatev, but that's not who the music is aimed towards!

And sure their music might be sugar-coated pop, but I loved it in the 90s and I still enjoy it today. As for Hanson, I remember that they were big when I was young but I only remember one song: Mmmbop. Give the JB some time and then evaluate them. I don't think the JB are trying to be the Beatles or Elvis or Mozart. They're just making they're own music-whether it's your style or not-and are entitled to enjoy whatever fame comes with it.

Why do people invest so much time in hating something? Commenting u dislike the JB isn't really gonna make a difference, why waste ur time?

Maddie Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:41 PM EST

I don't understand. Truly I don't.
Why do people dislike the Jonas Brothers? I can understand that people may not like their style of music but come on, their amazing role models. They don't write songs about doing drugs or banging girls. They talk about how every girl is beautiful. What other band has three teenage boys who aren't gonna have sex till they get married, huh? There good people overall and I think you should give them a break.
So if you had a daughter who liked the Jonas Brothers would you tell her not to like them? Why? Because they wear purity rings? Where I come from that's a good thing. Because they write songs saying all girls are beautiful and they don't sing about drugs, alcohol or sex? No, you'd want your daughter listening to their positive influences.

me:) Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:16 PM EST

people are so stupid..if you don't like jb then why look at the article?

Skyler Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

Also Gandharva, for someone who doesn't care about the Jonas brothers, you sure do say a lot about them. Leave them alone. They are big role models to a lot of young girls and even some very kind guys out there who do look up to them. There not looking for fame and fortune. They are looking to make music and make the fans happy. That's all they ever focus on. Making the fans happy and putting smiles on their faces. I have met the boys when the cameras were off and when not many people were around. They're parents raised thmem very well. So for you to say such rude things about them, that means you're disrespecting their parents. Don't you dare disresepct their very kind parents. You're only 16! Kevin and Joe are both older than you but you act like you're 40. I can understand people not being into the Jonas Brothers. But diss them personally especially when you DON'T EVEN KNOW THEM and there's a problem. Keep your damn comments on a music level. Not personal. It's certainly NOT okay.

Skyler Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 08:53 PM EST

Gandharva honestly what is your problem? You are one of the biggest hypocrites have ever seen. You posted six pointless comments about the Jonas Brothers. A boy band that you don't know anything about but instead you're typing stupid opinions that no one cares about. How laughable that you would waste time on google to look up stuff about them up to add to your pathetic defense. I honestly couldn't care less if you write or sing or play better than the Jonas Brothers. They are certainly not here to impress you, and CERTAINLY don't care about you. Incase your unintelligent brain got it, the Jonas Brothers are very loved between tweens and teen fans. Of course the majority of them would be of adolesent and mainly girls. You're only 16 but you talk like you have been around for so long. Keep in mind that you haven't experienced half of life yet so your annoying comments don't make you mature.

BurninUp4UBaby Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

Gandharva, can you let anyone voice there opinion without totally critizing them and picking at small flaws that everyone (including you) has?

Alayna Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 08:04 PM EST

I'm not typically a fan of pop music, but I love the JoBros. Especially Frankie. You wouldn't know who he is unless you're a fan. Anyhow, I think JB are excellent role models. They have good, Christian values that most people in their 40s can't honestly lay claim to. I do think they're kind of girly, but I don't think their hottness is narcisissm at work. I think girlish looking guys come off as less threatning than manly looking guys. They do have real talent, unlike Miley, whose voice is only good after it's been fixed. I do agree that Miley and HSM just put a big "?" over my forehead. I used to think Miley was good (not talent-wise) until those Vanity Fair photos (and other things). I totally didn't know the JoBros could fly. Lol, and vending machine sodas *are* fifty dollars in Heaven, thank you.

Joan Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 07:38 PM EST

The boy band when I was young was The Beatles. So I know boy bands can be great, amazing and long standing. I think the Jonas Brothers have it in them. I hope they stay smart, work smart and save smart. So far I am SOOOOO impressed. Thanks guys.

my2cents Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

Let's all just let each other have our own opinions. And in the meantime, let's also be happy for those who are enjoying success and celebrity. These boys don't have to be on par with the Beatles for us to be kind to them, do they? C'mon. Geez.

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

Madonna and Janet Jackson also suck.
Just for the record.
As for the Beatles and elvis presley. First of all, they were both, of course, over-rated. BUT, let's see what they did.
Elvis combined country, blues, folk, and old time music into a new genre of rock and roll.
He also stole his hit song "hound dog" from a black blues singer big momma thorton. He got famous for it because he is white. (It's true, look it up.)
The beatles combined american rock and roll, pop music, british psychedelia, and easter music theory into a whole new genre which started a musical and cultural revolution.

And i just watched them on youtube, so i can definitely say they do nothing new at all.
Yes, and the middle one sucks at all those instruments, otherwise he would play them semi-regularly, and not just on one song.
As for all the coments about how hot they are.
Rock and roll had sex idols and front-men that are way beyond the brothers.
Jim morrison, for instance.
Robert Plant
David Gilmour
Mick Jagger

Hi, everyone. You've gotta relax, please! I never questioned the Jonas Brothers' musical talent -- this post was only intended to point out the spectacle of the situation from a skeptical but basically amused point of view. Please enjoy my coworker Maria's glowing review of this morning's Jonas Brothers convention.

Just because you, the writer of this, are probably a balding, middle aged man doesn't give you the right to bash performers are the Teens Choice Awards, that's right the "Teen's Choice". I personally love the Jonas Brothers and their music, and I am not particularily fond of Mariah Carey, but that doesn't mean I don't try and pinpoint every flaw she has in her performance. You should try to look at things in a positive light, it will help you in your aging process.

All this Jonas Brothers love really takes me back..."Duran Duran are the best and I'm going to marry Simon and I'll always love them no matter what. And don't say Simon sounds like a dying cat, that's mean." Ah, teenagerhood. Was my skin really as thin as the indignant posters on this thread? (Uh, guys? Annie's comments? Not really that scathing.) At any rate I hope my spelling, grammar and logic weren't quite as atrocious when I was 13...

THE JONAS BROTHERS ROCK, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!

Anne Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

I don't know whether the Jonas brothers can sing or not, and I don't really care. All I know is that they are quite shallow and not at zll intellectual, so they don't deserve to be so many children's role models.

Whoa Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

The JB write their lyrics & melodies. They are now into record producing for other artists. They play several instruments. And "the middle one" plays guitar, keyboards & drums IN ADDITION to tambourine and being an engaging front man. Did Elvis, The Beatles, Madonna, Janet Jackson and other talented artists have to do those things in order to just get a LITTLE kudos?! No. Geez, lighten up on these guys! As for the ridiculous things they had to do on the show, I couldn't help but think of when Elvis had to sing Hound Dog on live television to an actual hound. Yikes!

SJ Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

i think that was a bit rude even fi it was an opinion
sorry but anyone who hasn't seriously taken an interest in the jonas brothers and actually taken the time to listen to their music woudn't knwo who amazing they are, and how hard they workBROTHERS BROTHERS BROTHERS
the jonas brothers r the best of 'em

Peace&Love Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 04:05 PM EST

Ok, thank you for explaining. Now I understand the piece - it's SUPPOSED to be opinionated, not general news reporting. I get it now. I still think it's very cruel toward every person mentioned, though. That's a shame. I'm concerned about our culture of rudeness, criticism, and not being happy for someone else's success. It's a sad societal trend. I don't like to see "reporting" going that direction. As for the Jonas boys... I wish them much success. They are gentlemen who really do have talent - that's why Disney's Hollywood Records label smartly snatched them up - I just wish they had performed rather than do the unfortunate things they had to do on the show. And it's even more unfortunate that they have to endure such printed cruelty. Mariah isn't my cup of tea but, eh, I still wish her success versus a swift demise. Try wishing people well... it feels better.

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

And, for the record, I was much better than them by 13, and i looked up the ages, they are 15, 18, and 20.
Also of interest is that the youngest one was born in the town I currently live in, apparently they were also here recently.
Interesting.

And, most people are just as good as them.
If you haven't noticed, they can't really play. One of the brothers plays tambourine only, and i don't even know what the others do, but they mostly just hold instruments while a full four man backing band plays behind them.
That's not impressive.

gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:30 PM EST

No, I have friends who aren't interested in that music, and i have my own band so that I know there will always be music i enjoy at a party.
You might not enjoy it, but you won't be able to deny that it is musically, lyrically, and technically more advanced and complex than any JB song. (Technically complex means more difficult to play.)
So, not everything is objective, music is art (sometimes) and art is based on taste.
But you can measure some things objectively, and when you do, The jonas brothers fall pitifully short of Pink Floyd (My favorite band) or Ornette Coleman (favorite jazz artist) or mozart (classical era composer) Tchaikovsky (romantic era) etc.
Another difference is the superficiality.
Those artists were about their art, The JB are more focused on being celebrities. Their music is for their public image, and art for fame sake is not true.
And there's a difference between caring and enjoying.

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

A//E is right. The Teen choice awards is not an accurate name. Teenagers are aged 13-19, and most people within that age group do not like the disney channel. They like tons of other worthless pop culture bullshit, but not the disney channel.
The disney channel is basically shows about preteens who try to be teenagers from the viewpoint of writers over 21 trying to please 8 to 12 year olds.
Jamie, why only mention Mozart? Because he's the only one of those musicians (all of whom, by the way are noted musical geniuses, or at least noted for being innovative and musically advanced, depending on what you consider a genius they may or not be "geniuses") that you recognize?
How does not being interested in teeny bopper pop music constitute as not having a life?
Because when I go to parties in my senior year of high school, I'm going to hear Jonas Brothers on the stereo?

Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

i'd like to see how many of these people who say such horrible things about the jonas brothers are or were [at their ages] able to do the things they can..they are very talented.

jggef Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:21 PM EST

who ever mallisa or what ever iss you need too shut itt jonas brothers aree amazing!

Alecia Adkins :) Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Melissa Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

Woow. I don't know how to describe how stupid you are within the "keep it clean" restriction you have. The flying thing was extremely lame, but not all Jonas Brothers fans are prepubescent girls, although that seemed to be all that was there. Their youtube videos are AMAZING. They can always bring a smile to my face no matter what happens. But I'm glad to see that you watched the video. I reccommend the video entitled "One Week". Yeah. It's awesome. Eat it, 'Anne'.

Alecia :) Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

The Jonas Brother's rockkkkk :)
if you dont like them then i dont know.
lol. But ther just sooooo talented there just ment too sing :DD lol. but i love you! :) bye bye for now

Jim: at least The Monkees had some memorable songs, written by some of the top songwriters of their day such as Carole King and Neil Diamond.

Jim Ziegler Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

It just proves that with the Disney machine behind you anyone can be a star. It doesn't matter how much or how little talent you have. In my day we had the Monkees.

A//E Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:31 PM EST

And what's wrong w/ mozart anyway?! He was a musical genius. And if you don't enjoy other people's opinions, that's going to be tough luck for you, b/c EVERYBODY has an opinion. And everyone has the right to express it. Even you people who are against this article.

stepheni Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

jonas brothers, u guys are the best band singer in the world, + the cutest guys in the world.

ApAthetiC//ExistEncE Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

I totally love this take on the disney channel stars! They're so fake, and it frustrates me to know that so many people like them. I'm not saying all of them are bad, but you hear about them and see them so much it gets irritating, and when you try to get rid of it, it's like trying to get rid of the wind. It keeps coming back! I have friends who love the jonas brothers, but I've had just about enough of them. Why not call the "Teen Choice Awards" the "Disney Channel Awards"?

Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

I'm not the same Jamie as b4 and im also burninup4ubaby...i typed my name in on accident

Jamie Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

O...wait...U r a teenager... U just dont have a life...sorry...<3.ily!

Vickie Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

I think it's interesting people who hate pop culture, the Jonas brothers, etc are even reading this article and then making comments. It only goes to show that you really DO care about pop culture and all the things you claim to dislike.

BurninUp4UBaby Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

Gandharva were u ever a teenager?

BurninUp4UBaby Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:55 PM EST

Wow Gandharava...motzart... really!? seriously, u guys everyone has the right to voice there opinion but if u dont like the Jonas brothers y post it on here and make hundreds of thousands of teenage girls pissed at you?so being a supporter of the jonas brothers i ask that if u hate the jonas brothers keep the rude comments to urself or tone it down a little. and mc pluto was a planet like 2 years ago and will always be a planet in my heart. JB are good kids and they havent done anything to you...so suck on that!

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

Why waste my time? Well, simply put, I am injured and therefore stuck inside and on the computer, so i have plenty of time to waste.
Also, i enjoy writing, so any excuse is a good excuse.
And, quite honestly, typing "U" instead of "you" barely saves time, and the time it does save isn't worth how stupid it makes you look.
Same with the "<3" and "ilyy."
If you want to be taken seriously, don't be an idiot.
Now, as for Peace and Love. (The person who writes intelligently.)
This is not strait reporting, it *is* an opinion piece.
It's a different genre of writing completely, and it's one that i frankly find much more interesting.
If this article was strictly about who won and such, i doubt it would have gotten half the readership, i certainly would not have cared.
Again, this is interesting, intelligent writing.
It is an argument piece rather than a strict report.
For instance, when you watch the news, one person tells you what happened, and another tells you the repercussions.

Maria Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:48 PM EST

To those who are shocked and offended by this article: it isn't meant to be a hard news article. It is meant to be a pop culture review, and as such, it reflects the journalist's view and does not need to be objective. If the reviewer had been fawning all over The Jonas Brothers instead of turning a jaundiced eye on them, I'll bet none of you would have had a problem with the lack of objectivity.

What? Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

Were you paid to write that? Yikes!

Peace&Love Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:38 PM EST

Were you absent from Journalism 101 the day they taught that the number one rule of reporting is to be "objective" (just report the news), not "subjective" (writing with an opinionated slant)? My gripe with your writing is that it served only be cruel and get a laugh at others' expense. Yes, the show was hokey and I cringed with embarrassement for the otherwise talented Jonas Brothers and others... but I really think your article is very cruel. And it is quite opinionated which, to me, isn't journalism. Why not report who the winners were, etc.? Why sink to such a low level of writing?

Sylvia Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

Actually..... Hanson were MUCH bigger than the Jonas Brothers.

Hanson had a single that was #1 in 27 countries. The Jonas Brothers haven't even had a top ten hit yet.

Hanson's first album went four times platinum within six months. The Jonas Brothers' album has been out for a year, and is being promoted much more aggressively than Hanson's ever was, and has only gone platinum. And yes, the music industry has declined since 1988, but not THAT much. Miley Cyrus's album hasn't even been out as long as the Jonas's, and it's gone three times platinum.

With no bona fide blockbuster hit, the Jonas Brothers are more "famous for being famous" than they are famous for any particular music.

madi Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

THE JONAS BROTHERS ROCK!!!

if you dont like them [[something is serioulsy wrong with you!]] them why waiste you time leaving bad comments.

if you really didnt care you wouldnt even leave the comments so.... U CARE!
U JUST WONT ADMIT IT!!

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST

When I was a "kid," there was britney spears and backstreet boys, and Nsync. Basically this same sort of crap. So i didn't listen to it. I listened to floyd, zeppelin, zappa, dylan, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, etc.

I listened to good music regardless of what was popular, and i said the same sort of things about those pop stars as I'm now saying. Admittedly, much less intelligently.
Pop culture in general, and especially pop culture aimed at the youth is, and always has been, superficial. It's not about talent, it's about market worth. Just like I question the integrity of music videos which rely on scantly clad women to sell, i question pop stars who rely on girls' screams to fly.
I play better than The "JB", I write better than The "JB", and so, i can tell you, from the standpoint of both a musician in a rock band, as well as a classically trained musician, that they suck.
I'm 16 right now, that's 16 years of rejecting this crap.

Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:46 AM EST

Now onto the Jonas Brothers.
Whoever says that they are talented musicians is either idiotic or ignorant. For their sake, I hope they are just ignorant, but either way their somewhat lacking when it comes to intelligence because a smart person knows to keep their mouth shut when they clearly know very little about the subject.
In what way are the Jonas Brothers talented?
They do not have technical skill. They are not capable of playing their instruments particularly well. They do not have musical skill (assuming they write their own music).
They have written nothing musically complicated, or distinctive. They don't have artistic skill. They have not made any artistic statements, and have done nothing notable with their music, or words, or theatrics.

Gandharva Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

Well, let's start debunking the stupid comments.
You accuse the writer of being mean for putting down the Jonas brothers, and you call her stupid and unhappy and all sorts of mean things. Congratulations, not only are you a hypocrite, but you're also an unoriginal one, as that complaint is basically *the* standard complaint to someone who comments on how stupid pop culture is. (Read every single hate mail on satire sites.) Also, I personally find it ironic that you call the writer stupid when they write very well, using expressive diction, and good flow, and most of the comments are unreadable strings of letters. PCJ! (Is that what the kids are using instead of PCP?) Also, this person's job is to watch the TCA, and write about them. The reporters job is to inform, and the writer's job is to be interesting. This was a perfect article in that it informed me how crappy the TCA were, and interested me with the colorful word choice and well put together sentences.

tanya Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

Jonas Brothers shouldnt be compared to Hanson because they are two different groups of music. Plus Hanson wasnt that big compared to Jonas. The show WAS CORNY AND BORING. JONAS BROTHERS WAS THE ONLY EXCITING THING THIS YEAR. AS for Miley, WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS SHE THINKING ACTING THE WAY SHE DID. SOMEONE NEEDS TO PUT HER IN HER PLACE QUICKLY!!! The Dance thing was fixed. Miley shouldnt have won. !!!!

Maria Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 10:30 AM EST

I agree that the Jonas Brothers should never be compared to Hanson. They aren't good enough to be Hanson's roadies!

Rosalie Jonas Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 10:01 AM EST

The Teen Choice Awards airs on fox because fox wants to have a lot of people watching, and a LOT of teenagers watch them. the jonas brothers are GOOD, they have good music. us teenagers love them because of how good-looking they are, but their music is pretty amazing too, and it's much better to have rolemodels of guys who won't have sex until they're married than it is to be looking up to some of the other celebrities in todays world.

mc Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:55 AM EST

Yeah, they're real artists. They're totally about the music.

...or not. just another over-produced piece of crap.

When I was these kids age, Pluto was a planet.

erin Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Alright so about the Jonas Brothers looking like girls... well they may dress in tight clothes but that's turning into the new fashion these days so they are just going with the flow or ahead of the times. Then about their singing.. well they may not be some people's cup of tea, but can you honestly say they can't sing when they have a record deal and hit songs? The older people might not get the pull that young girls feel to the the brothers, but they aren't the audience the brothers are trying to reach in the first place so maybe that's why. At the awards the ask the jonas brothers segment was really cheesy and pointless because obviously it was well rehearsed and some of the answers actually got annoying, but it still didn't make me hate them i hate the format of the award show. Miley Cyrus didn't do a horrible job hosting i just think it wasn't as good as it would have been if an older comedian or something would've hosted instead.

andi Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:37 AM EST

i think that stunt was so cool and it was a great idea and u guys rock.

brianna Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

teen choice is so cool. those people who where anonced worked so hard. they deserv that moment on the stage and they had fun too and we had fun too. they tried to entertane us and trie to make that night the best night.

Megan Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:25 AM EST

I Love you Jonas Brothers.Kiven is so funny and Nick and Joe 2.I love your dance!

Em Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 09:20 AM EST

First, this article is pretty spot on about the awards, but whoever said that we should change the channel if we don't want to watch things is right. However, I'm betting this person was being paid to watch, so it doesn't apply. Second...I was a fan of the JoBros until...the Teen Choice Awards. I'm over the age of 30 with no kids, and I enjoy their MUSIC--bubblegum pop? Sure, but they are talented and good kids. But the TCA nonsense made me realize that with Disney these days, it's about selling PRODUCTS, not MUSIC. I can't support that. When JB comes out from under Disney's strong arm and gets to really show who they are and who they can be MUSICALLY, I will gladly return. Until then, I'm gonna blast them repeatedly for dumb crap like the TCAs. Seriously, flying powered by the screams of girls? I'm gonna punch them all in the face.

yo jere. miley ain't on drugs or alcohol. b4 u disrespect the kids of america 2day, get ya info straight. Miley might be takin photos of herself but what teen girl doesn't. The pics she takes aren't really that bad. Personally i know a LOT!! of other girls who take worse pictures than that. adults say that kids are growing up 2 quick. kids grow up 2 quick because adults don't wanna let them be kids.

Cinderella Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 07:58 AM EST

The Jonas Brother in the middle - don't ask me names - I want to cut his hair! It needs a cut so badly!

Jere Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 06:56 AM EST

There was seriously a "Choice Myspacer" award? I feel for the souless youth of our nation. The "Teen Choice" awards are the greatest waste of time I have ever seen. Not to mention the Jonas Brothers...poor kids will be burned out in 2 years and turn to cocaine and alcohol. For example, see: Miley Cyrus.

Jo'mama Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 06:29 AM EST

Ms. Barrett -
Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of her personality today! What was the point of your article? I don't get it. Why take the time to be so rude and hurtful? I don't understand people like you. Do you feel more important now? Sure, there are parts of the TCA that are too young and staged for my taste, but I can turn the channel or just accept that it's not directed at someone my age and just enjoy it for what it is. You must be one unhappy person, Ms. Barrett. I don't think you said one kind thing in your article. What a miserable existence you must live. As for what you said about the Jonas boys in particular, I think it's a real shame that you are so quick to bash 3 very talented guys (which you would know if you put in any effort to learn more about them). In any event, I pray that you will have a much better day tomorrow so you can perhaps be kinder toward others. In the meantime, the Jonas Brothers will continue to spread joy not hate. Rock on boys!

Lizitish Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 06:14 AM EST

WHEN I WAS A KID...

Pop music was terrible, for me!! It was all this New Kids on the Block stuff, the Britney Spears thing. Not my thing. I was horrified. I still am. YOU KIDS TODAY, ought to appreciate the fact that you actually have some decent artists to listen to and see live - actually singing!! You're LUCKY. I had to flee to grunge, Guns N Roses, Britpop and "indie" (ha-ha). And BROOKLYN! Well, I'm back now.

Anyway, this article is a lil embarrassing. I'm 28, and I'm been reading EW since I was 12 or 13...has there always been this attitude of being old and feeling the compulsive need to talk smack about the inadequacy of the youth culture?

I know this is just a blog, but I am not sure your blog audience is as much the creaky, whiny people as you think.

Plus, the Jonas Brothers are GREAT. I find it hard to believe that their appeal is perplexing unless you are being willful about it. And it may be time to find a better comparison than Hanson.

the jonas brothers are awesome !
the best role models for my generation. i'm practically fifteen (oct. twenty to be exact) and these guys are the just the most gorgeous, kind hearted boys i've ever seen. so please, who would you rather our role models be ? miley cyrus? i mean, have you seen those myspace pics? these guys are such and awesome band and should be respected. peacee,x

Earl Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 04:15 AM EST

Who the hell are the Jonas Brothers anyway?

Hannah Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 01:11 AM EST

A group of guys who wear purity rings and write their own music? That's who we think is going to corrupt our teens? Where exactly is the threat?

I'm 22, and when I have kids, I hope their role models are even half of the men these brothers are.

XZ5 Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:29 AM EST

This is the Jonas Brothers' year - their time to break out. Ironically, last year was Miley's "breakout" year. These things happen in phases, so next year kids may forget about the Jonas Brothers and follow some other hot new group.
But the Jonas Brothers, and Miley, are pretty smart and talented. So if they continue to make great music they could last longer than usual for hot new acts.
Despite what Entertainment Tonight said, however, these boys will never be as great as the Beatles.
As for Miley, she won't be another Madona (who'd want to be, anyway?) But she's only 15, so even if she has another bad year, she's got plenty of time to fix her image, which wasn't all that damaged to begin with.

monica Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 11:39 PM EST

+ the AC/DC were totally better than Miley's crew. That crew and her dancing sucked--and just so we're clear I like Miley and Hannah Montana, but little baby Beckham was a better dancer than she was.
+ However, I will give her props on her hosting skills. She's more relaxed than some.
+ I thought it was funny that the cast of "Terminator" couldn't stop talking behind LC when she was accepting her award, disregarding her existence, and that Chace Crawford got frazzled in Rachel Bilson's presence when he was supposed to open the towel to reveal the winner.
+ Mariah was totally lip-synching.
+ Oh and when Miley sang the last few words of "7 Things" with Selena Gomez in the audience, I nearly died laughing at how staged that was.

JBfan Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

well obviously you haters have never given them a chance, gone to a concert or anything. so go back to listening to your songs about degrading women for se*, and supporting drug users.... b/c seriously these boys are amazing, and if you cant see that, they you need help

anna Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

The Jonas Brothers are so much more than good looks and girls screaming..They are the sweetest boys in the business you could ever find... their heart is almost pure gold, and i hope they never change. not to mention their songs are killer.

Mandy Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 10:08 PM EST

oh my god...i love the jonas brothers but they've become really overated and thats not helping on the lyric quality of their songs. I know that they can do better things but all this fame has came so fast that has made them change into this "all about fame and money boys", i mean maybe im wrong and they are still the same but, its just that they have planty of talent wasted on meaningless music that recently sounds like just made to hit the charts but not with the idea of make real good music. Even knowing all this and knowing that the only thing they are taking for this is to not beign taking seriously on the music industry, i just cant stop thinking that they someday are going to react to all this and GROW UP (especially joe, his head seems to be a little up this days) and start making real meaningful music and using their talent on something that are going to make them be remembered forever... yes, i still believe that it gonna happen... hope not to get dissapointed with the years

Em Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 09:51 PM EST

I want to be able to make fun of the Jonas Brothers, but that would be hypocritical of me, since I was an obsessive fan of three different, long-haired (albeit blonde), effeminate, bubble-gum brothers ten years ago.

Heather Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:31 PM EST

When I was a kid, I wanted to go see the Jonas Brothers at the Fair because I knew that they would get big, but my daddy didn't let me because the fair was on the bad side of town.

Okay, so that was last year, I'm 16, but I just wanted to meet someone famous besides Dick Cheny.

Comments on the awards. I sat through 2 hours of that anticipating for something better. Unfortunately, Josh Holloway was displaced in a way and there was no nomination reel for Choice Villian (We all know that if you put all the villians in a cage and commanded them to fight Sylar would Sylar them all. However, there was mention of a super-powered serial killer so that made me feel happy for a while). O'Connel cam was THE best thing all night and made me laugh so much harder than anything any Teen Choice awards could dish out.

Also, that dance thing was LAME. Riggged. Also, am I the only one who thinks it's a little creepy a 20 year old girl is hanging out with a 15 year old girl? Just sayin

S Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

stop hatin on the JoBros they rock and they dont look like girls !! why would you people say that???? they re totally hott!!!!

nellie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 08:07 PM EST

I absalutely adore the jonas brothers. I'm going to get their new CD when it comes out. I love the jonas brothers. I've never been to any concert but if I go to a concert I want to go to there's for my first concert.

Josie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

and im not talking to kay either.
just to let you know.
im talking to the OLDER ADULTS that need a reallity check.

Karen Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:58 PM EST

I was really impressed by Miley's musical performance, as well as her hosting throughout the show. I really admire her ability to be so confident and at ease talking to the giant audience, both in the amphitheatre and throughout 'tv-land'. There's certainly a reason why so many people look up to her. Also, I was pretty amazed at the amount of choreographed dancing she put in with the M&M Cru part of the dance battle. I think a lot of people might have danced for the first few seconds and then sat the rest out, but she really gave it her all.

I'm not a huge Jonas Brothers fan, but apparently millions of people are, so no complaints about that. The "ask the jonas brothers segment" gave the show a bit of a sitting-at-the-mtv-studio-talking-with-fans small-scale kind of feel, which I quite liked.

All in all, I thought the show was a success- entertaining and fun!

Josie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:58 PM EST

they look like girls?
someone's a little dramatic, and immature
yeahh im only 13 but it looks like im more mature then you ppl are.
you guys are adults and your saying crap about the jonas brothers, wow GROW UP. serioulsy there just kids yet barley adults. you seem pretty jealous to be saying all this
if you dont care then why are you on the site?
GROW UP.

kay Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:52 PM EST

so, here's my problem. According to Emily I'm old and "loosing" my mind. I'm 13 (and a girl), and I'm pretty sure I'm not an anomaly in regards to my opinion on the Jonas Brothers. Now, my judgement may be a tad bit unfair because I haven't had the desire to go to their concerts, but from what I hear on their albums it's not so good. That's not to say my tastes in music wouldn't be objectionable to many people (Mika), but I would like to get across the point that those who do not scream at the mention of their name are not necessarily over 40 years old.

Josie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:50 PM EST

misnix Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

If people want to love the Jonas Brothers, let them. I don't but why should it bother me if lots of other people do? Enjoy them, Jonas Brother fans!!!

vanessa Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 06:26 PM EST

Has anyone ever heard of Annie Barrett?
By the way she wrote the story. Enough said. Why bother even commenting to her little story!

ruthy Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

It's incredibly funny the trashing and adoring done online over the jonas brothers. thanks for the laugh everyone.. ps if your trashing and adoring makes you feel "all that" than go for it, but whats the point if your petty comments are just to be laughed at?

Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

The Jonas Brothers are one of the best bands, so why be so mean to them they never did anything to you?

LisaMama Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

I'm a mom of 2 young boys and like the Jonas Bros. Their bubblegum pop is just fine, thank you, and some of their songs are actually good! My boys like that they play guitar, write their own songs, dress cool, and i like them because they generally behave themselves (no underwear-revealing online photos or DUIs...yet!).

elisabeth Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

i luv you niiiiick!!!!!!!!!!
stop dissin the talented bands people!
jonas brothers rock!

Breannes real comment Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:36 PM EST

All the moms, older women and men that are completely making a fool out of themselves for "dissing" the jonas brothers, need to grow up a bit. Ok the jonas brothers are role models for children to follow their dreams and be a success in life. Its not just about what you look like, if you are talented then u become famous. I know tons of people that look great and i dont see them in movies in hollywood or making albums. Do u? I didnt think so. Why dont you just stop hating the jonas brothers, they are stylish talented gentlemen that have fought so hard to get where they are cant u just give them a break? Who cares if millions of girls scream for them, what does that matter to you. All the people who say bad things about the jonas brothers are making themselves just look jealous and that makes u seem immature, so just grow up and let the boys breath and live their dream!!

I was going to try to be sarcastic and write things like "OMG THE JONAS BROS ARE SO HAWT!!!!!!", but I decided against it when I read some of the comments...who could tell the difference? LOL
Pssst...Emily. GIRLY.

Jenny Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

Wow you guys are soooo jealous of these amazingly talented boys and its sad that you have to rag on them just cuz of your jealousy!
I <3 JB 4 LIFE!
Don't hate these boys!!!!
APPRECIATE THEM!!!!

DanOregon Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:26 PM EST

Not to sound like "Grumpy Ol' Guy" but I was surprised about how many of the nomination were for R-Rated movies and the number of presenters who aren't exactly known for "family-friendly" work or have pretty jarring scandals in their past. I'm just surprised there aren't some standards to the show.
But I dig the surfboards and the towels.

tanira Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

seriously?? Disney should stop giving birth to teens.

Emily Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:05 PM EST

OMG PEOPLE WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH YOU AND THE JONAS BROTHERS?!?!? OK THEY ARE NOT GIRLY OK SO U CAN JUST GET OVER THAT! OMG U PEOPLE MAKE ME SO MAD. THEY ARE SO TALENTED AND HAVE GREAT VALUES AND I AS A 13 YR OLD CAN SAY THAT THEY ARE GREAT ROLE MODELS. LEAVE THEM ALONE. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT REAL TALENT IS. I THINK THEY ARE AMAZING. IF YOU HAD ANY SENCE AT ALL YOU WOULDNT SAY THAT. THE PEOPLE THAT TRASH THEM ARE A BUNCH OF OLD PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOSING THEIR MINDS AND THAT HAVE NO RESPECT FOR NEW THINGS!!!! GET OVER IT.

Jessica-again Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

That flying thing was done by NSYNC and before them NKOTB. Apparently the screams were sooooo loud the audience couldn't make out the horrible sounds coming from their microphones...Lucky audience. As much as I loved my boy bands of yesteryear, I don't understand this new crop of kids. Miley, JB, and HSM all equal up to a big question mark over my head.

Hanson Fan Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

Actually, once you get past the first mmmmbop debacle - Hanson really rocks (says this 35 year old).

Carrie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

...and by the way, NSYNC was not the first to do the flying thing....that belongs to Donnie Wahlberg of the New Kids On the Block....check your sources!

Carrie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 04:52 PM EST

you know it just really chaps me when ignorant people trash a good thing. The Jonas Brothers are awesome. I took my niece to see them a few weeks back in Dallas, and I was absolutely amazed at their stage presence and their musical abilities at their age. I'd like to see all these "haters" get up night after night in front of thousands of screaming girls and do what they do...And on top of that, they are good people. These young men have values that most people twice their age don't have...They have a higher standard of character than the average American, and I think it's great that kids these days have them to look up to instead of some of this TRASH that is on the radio and television today. Get a grip, people! You're just jealous it's not you getting all the attention...so get off THEIR stage!

Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 04:48 PM EST

I am 24 (25 in December). I don't get the Jonas Brothers, but I guess older generations didn't get NKOTB or Nsync either so I'll let the teeny boppers scream over them.

Martha Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 04:14 PM EST

If teens and pre-teens like boys that are more feminine-looking, is it narcissism at work or do girlish boys just look less scary/threatening than grown men? Just asking.

Melanie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

ok, i was there and the JONAS BROTHERS were awesome even though they didn't perform, they are great kids with great hearts and great music , not to mention hotties :] well, joe is my favorite even though i love all of them. All 3 should be an inspiration for teens to stay clean and become something they want to be.

I love their music, talents, looks, characteristics, and everything about them. also, does it really mean anything to hate ? if u don't like them, don't like them, but don't go around every site trashing them. they're kids just like everyone else, they don't deserve to be trashed by middle age men or teens who just prefer other bands

i'm a huge fan, but as u can see i'm not a crazy person that would jump them, alright, just don't trash my boys.

-thnx

WHY does this air on Fox, when the channel can air better quality programming. I know the ratings are high, but come on! Let's look at the winners here, and see why teen choices should be on a teen/kid channel. Jessica Alba won for The Eye. Johnny Depp won for Sweeney Todd. Drake Bell won for Stop Loss. Yup, I'm sure the screaming girls were the ones buying those tickets. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the way the celebs look. (Depp was brilliant, but seriously, did a teen vote for him b/c of his performance, which we know they didn't see, or because it's just him). I'm only 20, and I already sound like a cranky old man.

I'm surprised all things Jonas aren't required to be grouped under your category of "Things That Make Me Die Inside." I want to give them a chance to prove that they might make good music, but just looking at them makes me hate them. I'm kind of ecstatic that they make me feel old.

Joan Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

If you think these guys look like girls I would hate to see what the girls look like where you live! These guys are cute and are far from looking girly. But where I come from girls look like girls. I love all these songs and I sing and dance with my grandchildren to every one of them!

veronica Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

it doesnt matter what anyone says...the jonas brothers rock and they CAN sing. when they rose above the audience it was amazing and the deserved every award they recieved. and here's my shout out to joe jonas ..you're totally hot and i love your style.. to nick jonas - keep rockin your look cuz i love it and you are totally cute!.. and to kevin your amazing .. keep rocking out.

KG Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

OMG. OMGOMGOMG. They need to cut their hair.

Rasha Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:46 PM EST

This was awesome when NSYNC did it 10 years ago! I hate these dudes for making me feel ancient! (I’m 26!)

nunya Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

joe jonas is good-looking. the other two are weird looking and after having heard a bit of their performance last night, they sound horrible. at least hanson were real artists. mmbop!

carole Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

I don't understand the appeal of Jonas Brothers, but I also don't understand the appeal of Donnie and Marie. *shrug

Jane Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

Actually I once read an interview from the editor of Teen Beat magazine and she said that if you look at the boys in those magazines, they have a tendency to look like girls. Seriously, watch the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon and you'll see that all the heartthrobs have effeminate features. This is because there's a bit of narcissism at play. That's why the Jonas Bros are successful, because they look like girls. In 3 years they'll look at this picture and cringe. I recently saw a Youtube where N'Sync sang Christopher Cross' "Sailing" and suddenly floated around the stadium on fishing wire. I'll bet Justin Timberlake looks at that and thinks, "That's so gay."

Jamie Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 02:03 PM EST

<3 Hey! If you LOVE the Jonas Brothers, you should totally check out Push Play. They are sooo cute and a great indie band! The boys will play at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY on Saturday August 23rd. It’s for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, which is a huge concert kick off for the US Open. There will be tennis, music all sorts of fun stuff. The lineup looks awesome. The Push Play boys with Demi Lovato, Colby O’Donis, Menudo and tennis stars like Roger Federer and Andy Roddick will all be there. Check it out! : ) http://www.usopen.org/arthur_ashe_kids_day/fullstory.sps?iType=13846&iNewsid=405543

tricia Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

Annie -

Two Monday's ago I sat with my 11 1/2 year old Jonas Brothers worshipper at their concert in Omaha, NE. What I could hear of them in between the thousands of screaming girls - my daughter included - was pretty darn good.

Am anxious to hear their new album after liking a few things a couple of weeks ago!

Winona Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

Didn't this used to be on Nickelodeon (when I was young, that is...)? And I can't wait 'til the Jonas Brothers stop being compared to Hanson - why aren't they compared to the Bee Gees instead, or the Beach Boys' Wilson brothers? Or heck, even Los Lonely Boys?

Meghan Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 01:55 PM EST

When I was a kid, the boys that all the girls liked didn't also look like girls...seriously, i do not get the jonas thing...they are FAR too girly, even by hanson standards.
