PopWatch Duel: Seth Green vs. his 'Robot Chicken' cocreator Matthew Senreich

Robotchickenwar_l You remember how the PopWatch Duel works: We ask two people for their picks on a certain topic. You decide whose list is better by casting a vote in the comments section. They try to tell themselves that they don't care who wins.

In honor of today's DVD release of Robot Chicken: Star Warswhich just received an A- review in EW and, oh yeah, an Emmy nomination — we asked creators Seth Green (left) and Matthew Senreich (right) to each name The Five Geekiest Pieces of Pop Culture I Own.

It's on after the jump.

Seth Green

1. The Muppet Show on DVD. I was on location in Canada, up late with insomnia — saw the ad & bought the entire series.

2. Lincoln Hawk action figure (pictured, in a photo Green took himself). From the movie Over The Top the best father-son, borderline homoerotic, arm-wrestling redemption movie.

3. Fred 'Rerun' Berry signed photo. Made out to 'sweet j,' an inside joke and an amazing item.

4. GI Joe lunchbox. Yes, I have the thermos.

5. Lobby card from Superman. The villians, trapped in the flying glass thingy from the Donner cut of Superman II.

Matthew Senreich

1. Over 100 original Atari games including Ikari Warriors, Warlord, Adventure and that crappy E.T. game.

2. A super signed Buffy the Musical poster.

3. A page of Joe Madureira's original art to his first contracted work from Marvel Comics in Marvel Comics Presents #89.

4. Every issue of Wizard magazine ever. Specials included.

5. All the original Kenner Star Wars action figures (all of which have been opened). Including the C-3PO carrying case. Plus, eight Master Replica lightsabers including Darth Maul's.

Okay, who's the bigger geek (a term of affection)? Seth Green or Matthew Senreich? Vote now!

Christine Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 11:24 PM EST

Matthew is definately geekier. (But, I have to agree with someone else's comment that Seth is holding back) I've heard of the kind of stuff he's got in other types of interviews. But for this particular contest Matthew wins hands down. Wow...all the Wizard magazines and Atari games??? Wonder if he has that dumb game that was a Egyptian scenerio that you had to do certain things within the game to find what you needed to enter into this big contest to win like a big amount of money at that time. (Early 80's of course)

RedLid Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 02:58 PM EST

Senreich is the geekier of the two.

matt wins no question. buffy, atari games, and wizard magazine? i am very very jealous.

ThinkingBot Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 08:37 PM EST

Matt wins. Although the win is a bit of a farce since Seth is obviously aware that his devasting good looks put him at an advantage with the general public and therefore submitted his B list of geeky items so that Matt would win this contest.

Nix Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

I'd have to say Senreich, especially for namechecking Madureira; but Green's has panache.

Jennifer Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 07:24 PM EST

Seth Green is totally holding back. There is no way that those are his geekiest pop culture items. He showed a picture of himself "incognito" at Comic-Con dressed as Spiderman last week on Conan. Wiley+Oz+Evil Jr+Fam Guy+Robot Chicken does not equal an autographed photo of Fred ReRun Berry. And owning the Muppet Show is smart, not geeky. I am not buying that list for an instant.

Master Jedi-Robe Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

Excellent, Just Excellent.

Thank you, Master Jedi-Robe.

Mary Beth Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 06:44 PM EST

I vote for Matthew Senreich. Seth Green's list was pretty geeky, and then you read Matthew's list, and you're like, holy sh*%, now THERE'S a geek.

Jessica Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

I was totally hoping that Seth would say that he had his own "Oz" toy-that would have sealed it for me(mostly because I covet it and can't find it anywhere)! But Matthew won with the Once More With Feeling poster-if only because I'm tremendously jealous! Of course, I still plan on having Seth Green's babies so I'd say it balances out:)

Kel Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

I really really love Seth Green. But Matt definitely wins for the Buffy the Musical signed poster. that just makes me jealous.

Daniel Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 04:34 PM EST

MATT. :D

Nose Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

I think that when you reach this level of complete geekery, there can be no winner (or loser, depending on your point of view). I say that lovingly, by the way, as I'm a self-professed geek.

DanOregon Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

Senreich may have quantity, but most of the items are a push. The Lincoln Hawk action figure? Green wins. That movie was hot for what? Two weeks? And they made "action figures?" And he bought one? And he still has it? And he admits it?

Pam Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 02:39 PM EST

as much as I love Seth Green, Matthew wins this one.

wg Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

I want a recount! Of Seth's geeky collection. C'mon, Seth, you can do better than what you listed! You're much geekier than that!

wtfnyc Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

Seth had me at "Over The Top". Lincoln Hawk 4-eva!!!

Ozzie Al Thor Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

While a Lincon Hawk action figure and havine the Muppet Show is AWESOME... playing with your star wars toys and owning over 100 Atari games puts Matthew over the top.

Get it? "Over the Top"? Oh nevermind.

P.S. What "Buffy the Musical" poster are we talking about? Is it a poster from "Once more with Feeling" or was their some Broadway thing I missed?

Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 01:32 PM EST

I have to go with Nat X: Matt is the bigger geek, Seth is more of a nerd. And definitely nerds are more attractive than geeks! :)

Melinda65 Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:42 PM EST

I have The Muppet Show on DVD, and I'm not a geek...ok, I am.

I want to vote for Seth because I heart him, but am going with Matthew for the signed Buffy poster (although I would think that Seth would be able to get his hands on one of those, no problem.)

Nat X Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

Matt is a bigger geek, Seth is more of a nerd. Matt wins this round, but Seth's consolation prize is that he is infinitely more attractive than Matt.

James The Greatest Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

Matthew, all the way. He had me with the Buffy poster.

Plus every issue of Wizard? Hell, yeah! I'm one of those people that collects magazines too, so I totally get it. My EW collection is a bit out of control at this point!

Also, Joe Mad is such a SICK penciller. (I fell in love with him when he first did The Phalanx Covenant issues of 'Uncanny'. He brought it to a whole new level. Sooo good.)

So I guess what I'm saying is... Matt, will you marry me? (Ha.)

TMB Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

I Sooo want to vote for seth, and would have, until the Buffy poster. I feel that makes it okay to vote for the real winner, b/c then I'm not voting Against Buffy.

strickens_girl Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

I love Seth and the fact that he has the entire series of the Muppet Show is so made of win. Although Matthew comes close with the signed OMWF poster.

Still, voting for Seth.

joni Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

oops - sorry for the double post...

Joni Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

Sorry Seth but Matthew's list trumps yours 10 to 1. Original Joe Mad art from his FIRST contract? Awesome. EVERY Wizard? That is super geekdom. Now if only he had all the original Wars figures unopened....

Joni Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

Sorry Seth but Matthew's list trumps yours 10 to 1. Original Joe Mad art from his FIRST contract? Awesome. EVERY Wizard? That is super geekdom. Now if only he had all the original Wars figures unopened....

shana Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

As someone who owns Seth Green's action figures from both Austin Powers AND Buffy, as well as nursing quite the obsessions with both Mupets and Superman....I vote for Seth. I like a well-rounded geek. Matthew is the typical comic book/star wars action figure geek. Unoriginal. Of course I do remember the C-3PO carrying case and give props for that.

fasty Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:33 AM EST

Matthew in a landslide. Not even close.

monica Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

matthew
i love seth, but matthew kicked his ass in the geek category. Original star wars action figures, every issue of wizard, and a "super signed" buffy poster. i was already decided after the poster. lol

Green Gummi Bear Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

I want to say Matthew, I too have all the first line of Star Wars figures, opened because I played with them as a child. But to call the E.T. Atari game crappy? Man, I loved that game, that's unforgivable.

Nick Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:08 AM EST

I wanted to vote Seth because, duh...buffy, but then Matthew had to come through with a SIGNED BUFFY MUSICAL POSTER. The geek in me became rather jealous. I vote Matthew. Sorry Seth.

nilito Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

I have to go with Matthew Senreich. He's got some pretty obscure pieces. And I mean, I love Seth regardless. But I'm questioning his comment about getting the 'entire series' of the Muppet Show on DVD. They're not even all out yet, Seth!! (Just 3 seasons. Luv ya!!! XOXO) (Yeah. Big geek here too.) :)

Martha Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

Matthew wins, even if he did open the Star Wars packages like true geeks aren't supposed to do. But Seth gets Total Awesomeness Points for owning the entire Muppets on DVD. I covet them.

Rich Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

Anyone who owns an action figure from Over the Top wins by default. Seth.

ambriel Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

Matthew Senreich. Hands down. Whenever "complete set" is thrown down in relation to that many nerdy things, the winner is pretty clear.

Crystal Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:38 AM EST

Matthew, but Seth gets an A for effort.

Dana Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:36 AM EST

Can't make an unbiased choice cause I Love Seth !!!!!

Sara Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:34 AM EST

Matthew wins! He got points for Buffy, then pushed it over the top with his vast collection of Star Wars memorabilia.

Mel Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:26 AM EST

Sorry Seth gotta hand it to Matthew Senreich to take the Geek title this time.

BrandonK Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

Oh my god, I'm so envious of the original Joe Madureira art!!!! He was my absolute favorite X-Men artist ever.

LadyTiger Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

Seth was in Buffy -- he wins, no matter what Matthew has in his collection.

BTW, did anyone see Seth on The View? He was promoting the Robot Chicken Star Wars DVD. I felt so sorry for the guy -- those idiot women were completely clueless and it was the most uncomfortable interview to watch. I'm sure it was really uncomfortable for him to have to talk to those morons! Seth, we still love you, even though you had to go on The View.

Mel Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:04 AM EST

Well Matthew owns a Buffy poster while Seth was actually in the cast at one point....I can't make an unbiased decision

Trixie Firecracker Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM EST

Matthew Senreich is a bigger geek, but Seth Green will always have my heart.

Ceballos Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

"Over the Top" was BORDERLINE homoerotic? I agree, except for the "borderline" part.

By the way, Matthew wins.

Coach's Mistress Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:53 AM EST

I'm going with Seth because of the Muppet Show. Matthew is certainly a geek's geek, but Seth is in another dimension of geek world with the Muppets. Winner: Seth!

Emily Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:49 AM EST

Definitely Matthew!

MK Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:47 AM EST

Though I love Seth Green, I'm going with Matthew based on the fact that one of his items is actually memorabilia from a show SG was on (regardless of whether he was still actually in the cast at that point).

Nancy Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

I thought Seth had it with the Rerun autograph, but owning even one issue of Wizard magazine makes you top geek. Matthew takes the win.

Winona Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:39 AM EST

Matthew wins, hands-down.

Lucy Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:33 AM EST

There's no contest. Matthew Senreich wins. Anyone who owns any collection including "every issue" or "all the original" action figures of anything is a class A certified geek.
