Prized pop-culture possessions: Part II (The ones you forget you owned)

Diamond_l Last week we shared our prized pop-culture possessions. This week, let's share the once-prized possessions that we forgot we owned.

Yesterday, when I was unpacking a box in my apartment (note: I've been there two years), I discovered:

1) A photo of myself wearing a Britney Spears T-shirt. I'm guessing I bought it when I saw her in Vegas in Nov. 2001. (Escapism, anyone?) Apparently, I wore it to a friend's bowling birthday party, under a hoodie that I unzipped just enough to show Britney's face peaking out.

2) A "Thanks for last night!" autograph from Tom Cavanaugh. Now I remember why I love him: I'd gone to an Ed panel at the Museum of Television and Radio in April 2001, and asked him to sign the program sheet. He signed "Thanks for last night! Lorenzo Lamas." Funny.

3) A Diamond Girl mug. Technically, this wasn't in the box so much as it was in my sink. But that shows you how often I do dishes. Every time I find the mug — bought at a Neil Diamond (pictured) concert in 2001 — I'm reminded of that Ani DiFranco song "Little Plastic Castle": "They say goldfish have no memory/ I guess their lives are much like mine/ And the little plastic castle is a surprise every time."

Your turn.

I had a denim portable turntable that I played a Kristy and Jimmy McNichol 45 of He's So Fine and He's A Dancer over and over again. I still have the 45, but don't know what happened to the turntable. Also have a purple 45 of Prince's When Doves Cry/17 Days and a flame shaped 45 of Faith No More doing War Pigs. Apparently, my love 45s lasted from the 70s to the 90s.

When I moved into my first college apartment after living in the dorms for two years my mom decided we needed to clean out my room too in the process of moving. When loading up the truck my mom accidentally an old lock box of my sister's with my stuff. My sister bought this box in 4th or 5th grade mind you. So I open it up while unpacking and discover our old collection of Tiger Beat and Bop magazines. The big stars back then were JTT, Jonathan Jackson (Mighty Ducks), and that kid from "Rookie of the Year". Highlarious!

I was cleaning out my closet and I found the Chris poster I bought at an NSYNC concert I went to at age 9. Looking at his gorgeous face, I felt like a fourth grader all over again.

I have a picture disk of Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual album. That, yup, I bought back in the early 80's. The front is the picture from the album cover, and the back is a picture of the soles of her shoes. And it still plays great. Totally awesome.

Recently, I came across some pix of me at the Field of Dreams in Iowa. I always forget that I spent 30 minutes there about 4 years ago.

My Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark shirt I bought at a thrift store!!! I have worn it to every concert I have been to.

I wish I still had my old Shaun Cassidy T-shirt. My mother bought it for me because she was sure I had a crush on him after I bought his cassette (Da Do Ron Ron, anyone?). I also watched The Hardy Boys because I thought Parker Stephenson was hot, but Mom was sure I loved Shaun, cuz all the pre-teens did! I wore the shirt exactly twice, to make her happy.

At the height of my Royal Tenenbaums love, I bought Eli Cash's car's rear view mirror on eBay. It now helps me shave the back of my neck.

i just found a few things too:
a) my old copy of the Watchmen that my dad gave me when i was in Jr. High school, i read it then and i had no clue what it was saying. but i liked it because it had a cussing in it.

B) the film strip roll for the preview to Star Wars Episode 1 that i got from a friend who worked at the theater. i thought it would be awesome and worth money. i was wrong, now every year i cut strips of it to hand for our Oscar party.

C) i am always so happy when i look at my DVD collection and wee the sore thumb VHS's that i cant get rid of that are all beat to pieces. ie, Pulp Fiction, Red Dawn, ExistenZ, and Flatliners to name a few.
