Odd couple: Michael Vartan and David Cross?

Comedyduo_l Michael Vartan and David Cross are starring in a movie together. Don't get me wrong, I love them both: Vartan (pictured, right) for playing Mr. Coulson in Never Been Kissed and Cross (pictured, left) for that time that I was going to see one of his comedy shows in New York, couldn't find the club, saw him on the street, and said, "Um, David?" and asked for directions. (The friend I was with — who, incidentally, was the person who wrote into BobandDavid.com and got Doug Benson to review Gigli — won't let me forget my timid approach. We both remember the scared look on Cross' face.) But, it's weird, no?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, they will play "bitter tire store rivals" in a comedy called Demoted: "Vartan will play Rodney McAdams, a hotshot Treadline Tires sales associate who delights in tormenting his less-than-cool colleague, Ken (Cross). But when their boss suddenly dies, Ken is promoted and assigns Rodney to a secretarial job as payback, giving the male chauvinist a taste of his own medicine."

Is this the oddest comedy duo in recent memory? Or can you top it?

They're cut-offs, Rob, not short shorts. You call yourself in AD fan...

I thought Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was werid at the time, but that turned out ok.

The story itself sounds funny, and I never would have paired these two together, but I like them both, so I'm looking forward to it!

It worked phenomenally, but at the time Robert Deniro and Billy Crystal seemed like a weird pair.

weirdest comedy duo ever = Danny DeVito and Arnold in TWINS!

Mandi, you met David Cross? I'm so jealous. I'm ashamed to admit a big crush on him. It must have been the short shorts from Arrested Development!

Two great tastes that taste great together. Who would have thunk that a Michael Vartan/David Cross movie would sound so great?!

Jackie,
Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson were definitely a surprising pair, but at least they were both big stars.

My vote for oddest comedy duo in recent memory goes to Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy (huh!) in "The Man" (though I'm not sure if they count as a comedy duo since the movie wasn't funny).

For oddest comedy duo in recent history, I have to go with Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson in "Anger Management." I remember seeing the trailer for that, turning to the friend I was with, and saying "Now those are two actors I would NEVER picture doing a movie together!"

Can I just say, seeing the photo mash-up of Dr. Funke with Vaughn made my little pop world explode.

i love the idea of thse two making a movie together, but partly because of my giant crush on michael varatan and my obsessive love with arrested development. still, i don't think that makes them the oddest duo. janeane garofalo and uma thurmam in the truth about cats and dogs takes that honor.
