'Burn Notice' recap: Carla vs. Fiona?

Jul 11, 2008, 11:57 AM | by Aubry D’Arminio

Categories: Mini TV Watch

Burnnotice_l The last time we saw Michael Westen, Burn Notice’s fired spy on a mission to clear his name, he’d just driven Sam’s Caddy out of Miami and onto the back of a cargo truck belonging to the deadly agency that “burned” him. Ostensibly, he was close to finally discovery the real deal behind his termination, blacklisting, and quarantining in his hometown: He just needed to go along for a little ride.

So where was the truck headed? Some mysterious high-security outpost in Mexico? A well-hidden Colorado bunker? South Dakota? Hollywood for a "let's go to L.A." episode (must every show have one of these?) And who was the smoky-voiced woman (codename: Carla) who called him on the phone and claimed to be his new boss? Was she a goodie or a baddie? A hottie or a nottie?

Well, if you’d been following the behind-the-scenes of the show at all, you already knew that Carla (who appeared at the end of last night’s episode, taunting Sam with a crossword puzzle), would turn out to be Battlestar Galactica’s super-hot (if you love 'em tall and blonde) Tricia Helfer (pictured, left). But if you’re like me, and you’ve been avoiding Burn Notice spoilers like trans fats, then you’re wondering if she’s just here to be Michael’s new handler (à la Charlie's Angels' John Bosley, sans lisp) or if she’s a potential love interest for our favorite covert agent.

More 'Burn Notice' after the jump...

I, for one, am hoping for the former. I’m a Fiona fan through and through. I love Gabrielle Anwar (pictured, right), and I can’t believe Michael wouldn’t want Fi (and that awesome snow globe collection) in his loft full-time. Sure, she could do to eat a steak or two (does she disappear when she turns sideways, or is it just me?). But who wouldn’t want a girl so loyal?  She jumped off a bridge while on one of their missions, for Pete’s sake. I just couldn’t stand to see her get her heart broken (she said last night that she’s through with Mike, but I don’t buy it): Season 1's Lucy Lawless episode, when Michael almost fell for the Warrior Princess, almost killed me. I also like that Michael has no time for nookie. It makes me, and maybe some of you, feel not so pathetic.

Otherwise, I’m game for Mike and Carla to play cat and mouse for a few episodes. And I’m glad that he never really made it out of Florida. This show needs Miami. The truck dropped him off at an airstrip in the northeastern part of the state, where he met up with a kidnapped computer tech Carla wanted him to help hack into a “security company” back home. “Security company” being code for group of mercenaries who help warlords torch poor African villages looking for diamonds. Considering how nefarious that sounds, I’m betting that Carla — despite her witchy woman ways — is on our side and that she’s using Mike to make the world a better place, not a worse one. More proof: If you read between the lines of what Bruce Campbell says in this interview with my colleague Dalton Ross, you’ll realize that there will be fewer “jobs” this year. So what else could they be doing? That said, I don’t think Carla’s the head honcho of the burn crew either — so make room for more guest stars.

My only two beefs with yesterday’s show: I can’t look at Patrick Fischler, the actor who played Jimmy, without thinking about his creepy role in David Lynch’s Mullholland Drive and I missed Mike’s brother Nate a bit. He added an interesting dynamic to the group because he wanted so badly to be a good sibling, despite resenting Mike over their various daddy issues. I also started to sense some sort of romantic thing going on between Fiona and Sam that just made me plain uncomfortable. Sure they’re hot, but get Sam’s lady friend Veronica back soon. That said, Jeffrey Donovan was tops as always. During Burn Notice’s hiatus, I’d been re-upping on his old USA series Touching Evil (produced by Bruce Willis and one of my Mom’s favorites). I wanted to hate this show for being an unnecessary remake of a Brit TV great — but he just totally made it. You can start watching it on Youtube here.

Now, what did you guys think? Carla or Fiona? Should Nate come back or stay in Fort Lauderdale? A good start to a great show or a ho-hum episode? And most of all, what plans do you think Carla and co. have for Mike?

Nico Wed, Aug 13, 2008 at 03:39 AM EST

OMG I love Micheal- Fi, they complement eachover so well, but it suprises me that Fi has been waiting around for him for so long. I agree and want to see her with a new man for awhile just NOT Sam- there is no chemistry and he wouldn't do it to Mike, but as suggested maybe Nate, just to get Mike to see how much he loves her. Btw I think her weight is irrelevent to the show and her performance, must we be so critical of Female actors body shapes?

Joy Hoxter-Pondo Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 12:00 PM EST

Tell Patrick Fischler to email me. I
knew he would end up on TV. I knew him as a small boy, Along with his Mom Eileen. We all went camping together.

Tim Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 08:38 AM EST

Fiona - hands down. Tricia Heilfer is hot, but Gabrielle Anwar is like the surface of the sun..

wetdog Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 06:26 AM EST

hey leave fiona alone shes perfect just the way she is! wheres sams girl have loved her for years, no to carla dont want any lost runway art on the show..sharon rules believe me she`ll get over her whinnin, nates in southwest florida gamblin in a seminole casino!

berrye Hinson Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 06:25 AM EST

Fiona, all the way. Akk i want to say is go girl, get em, shoot, good yougot it. all during the show. She is GREAT.

Jane Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:01 AM EST

I vote for Fiona; Michael and Fiona are just so perfect for each other. Yeah, Carla might work too if Fiona's out of the picture, but she's still in the picture. So Michael & Fiona ftw! Seems ilke my family likes Carla better though, like my uncle (see his blog here http://phonecardscollector.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/turn-burn-new-page/)

Emmett Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 10:57 PM EST

Fi is the best, we need a tango scene like her youth days in "Scent of a Woman", and get that bucket of fat on a diet...wow the mom and counselor look alikes, very cerebral stuff. Keep in coming...

Jane Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 10:09 PM EST

Why mess with a winning combination!
Fiona was perfect. Anwar is too horsey and doesn't fit with the group. Her mouth takes over the closeups. Ditch her. It worked before, leave it alone!

Jennifer Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

Fiona explained why she had to drop the accent...it's in an older episode. It was for a cover job, and she didn't need it anymore. I REALLY REALLY hope they keep the Fiona character, I just like her chemistry with the Michael character! LOL! I'm super excited that it's back on, I thought I would die waiting for it to start again! Great show, great plot, very refreshing entertainment...seriously I couldn't take one more reality show!! Burn Notice rules!!

twinstick Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 07:55 PM EST

Gabrielle Anwar IS a former model, so, I guess old habits die hard when it comes to food.

Liz G. Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 10:49 AM EST

Is it just me, or did Fi lose her accent?? Last year, it seemed more Irish, while this episode it seemed more midwest. Love Fi - but want the accent back.

Barbara Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 10:44 AM EST

Thank heaven Burn Notice is back. Great cast. A bit more story line for Sharon Gless would be good. The character, action, and light tone make every hour go by far too fast. This show goes down like a cool and zingy mojito on a very hot day.

Noticeably Burned Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

Jeffrey Donovan not cute?!?! Sabrina, what is wrong with you, girl? and to Susan Zimmerlee -- you want to "clean up" a show about gun-runners and ex-spies set in Miami? Are you kidding me?! Just don't watch then. They make the Hallmark Channel just for you. ... Another reason I don't care for the Carla angle -- I've been jaded by long-running conspiracy/mystery plotlines ever since the X-Files. All that investment and no payoff. I finally gave up.

me Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

Didn't Lucy Chen set Michael up to be killed when she gave him the job? Or am I mis-remembering? Fi's wardrobe is a bit out there to those of us in Middle America, but probably appropriate for Miami. I loved in USA's recent promos when MW is dodging bullets and runs thru a cluster of flamingos...LAWN FLAMINGOS! It's a sly nod to the opening credits from Miami Vice.

susan Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

I hate this Carla angle. Why do they need this character when they never fully explored Lucy Chen as a way to kick off jobs for Michael? That could have been a way to get "jobs" that don't just involve "victims." Love Fiona, get off her appearance. GA is a great actress and Fi's a fun character. Sharon Gless is underused and they made her too whiny. I also vote for more Bruce! If they go off the weekly "job" I will stop watching!!!!

Jen in WI Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 02:09 AM EST

To: Mary Forsythe--I thought the exact same thing about Carla/Karla and John LeCarre! I LOVE his books.
To: To Jen in WI--thanks for clearing that up and must be the difference between the two episodes-and where they filmed the last one v. this season opener. And I did forget about whatshisname saying he went to an airstrip upstate.
TO: the lady so offended by the clothes--as the other commenter said-it's hotter than hell down there even in the winter--Fi is wearing weather appropriate clothes and she is definitely not a skank. The swimsuits all over the place-that IS how South Beach is. It isn't Big Love territory with every inch covered except the hands and face.

joules Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

MW seems like an automaton, then he has a line like"... you don't miss the scent of an asset when she leave the room" and you know he's sorry he can't have a real relationship with Fiona, or with any of his friends & family. I'm still hoping that season 2 will have a guest visit from Michael T. Weiss, Andrea Parker or Jon Gries. Didn't Jared go to Miami once or twice?

joules Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 09:30 PM EST

Jacky, I diddown the the same thing you did: rewound to see if I missed Michael driving down a ramp to get out of the truck. There was no ramp! As long as we're discussing Ms. Anwar's skeletal appearance, I will add that Sharon Gless looks great! I'd like to see her character actually kick some butt for a change.

Maitai Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 09:23 PM EST

hell, i'll be sam's love interest fo sho

Candace Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

I have no clue why, but I too LOVE Fi - I agree with you, though, that we should feed her. Regardless, it works well with her "bigger than life, I can run with the boys, too" character on the show. I didn't sense anything with her and Sam. I think they'll just forge more of a friendship on their own. Honestly, I think Mike and Fi will be the new Ross and Rachel and Tony and Angela - The audience knows they'll get together, just a matter of WHEN!

I don't mind Nate every once in awhile. He doesn't need to be in every episode, but he does add something.

Someone made a comment about the women wearing too little clothing. Honestly, if you ever go to S. Florida, you'll see that's how people dress down there. Hell, it's hot!

I'm not sold that this season will be as good as last, but I'm hoping it is. It's quite obvious that Mike finding out what happened is going to be about 90% of the plot as opposed to last season's 55%.

Mary Forsythe Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

The name Carla made me laugh the first time I heard it. The writers are having a little fun with us. Most people would not argue that John LeCarre is the best espionage/spy novelist of all time. His main character for many of his novels was George Smiley who worked for the Brits. And Smiley main nemisis was ... Karla. Nice to know the writers have a literate sense of humor.

maxwell19596 Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

Burn notice was the surprise hit of last year, each episode just seemed to get better, and better. This season got off to a great start, It had all the things that made the first season great, while continuing the storyline. Just remember this is a very entertaining show, and leave it at that. It's just fun, with lots of great bits. Miami, Girls, Gun toting bad guys, And the coolest central cast on any tv series in my opinion. I'm so glad its back. If you haven't seen many of the first seasons episodes, I would highly recommend purchasing the great Season One DVD set. P.S. any show with Bruce Campbell is going to be truly AWESOME!

To Jen in WI Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

They were north of florida. When they are in the car they pass a sign for Walton County. And Jimmy says he and his wife went to an airstrip "upstate."

droplett Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 12:18 PM EST

This can NOT be happening. The writers must be on crack. To dismiss "The Avengers" tension with this other woman is plain suicide for the show. Bring back Nate, toss this other woman and get back to being the show I so much enjoyed last season. Or I won't watch.

aa Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 11:44 AM EST

i agree mike's mom whines way too much. i could really do without both her and nate. i started watching because i loved touching evil but am totally hooked on mike, fiona and sam. usa is taking over my dvr with burn notice, in plain sight, l&o:ci and now psych is back!

Patty Hoover Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 10:48 AM EST

I am a big fan of Burn Notice from the beginning. I enjoy the three main characters. I am rooting for Fiona because--well just because. Sharon Gless wines too much.

susan zimmerlee Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 09:31 AM EST

I do enjoy your show, the action and adventure. What I do not understand is why the female actresses are so immodest in their attire. Perhaps if you got better acting or writting you would not have to result to the low standard of peddeling flesh. I would love to continue watching your program but I guess my standards are too high and I care what happens to the morals of this life. Please take th high road and clean up this program it really was fun to watch

Deb Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 06:33 AM EST

I started watching originally because I was mourning the loss of Touching Evil. I do love Burn Notice, but the season premiere did not live up to my expectations.

Love smartasses, and Burn Notice has them galore.

Jen in WI Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 04:25 AM EST

Clarification(s): 'Not good' was for the crappy accent.
Another priceless bit about the episode--Sharon Gless in her capri pants, cigarette hanging out of her mouth, brandishing a double barreled shotgun.
No recasting for any of the characters. They did it right the first time.

Jen in WI Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 04:17 AM EST

Northeast part of the state? Whaaat? I thought it was in the Keys. It certainly looked like it was in the Keys (yes I've been there) and that long ass bridge that Michael drove the Caddy into, was on the Card Sound Road Bridge--heading SOUTH to the Keys.
Anyway, count me on Team Fi. She's the perfect mate for him--and love the former IRA angle of her background--too freaking perfect.
What I can't stand, was Michael's fake accent in this episode--he was trying to be Dutch? Going with the Blood Diamond thing? Not good.
Everything else about the show--excellent.

Shara Sun, Jul 13, 2008 at 01:31 AM EST

I LOVE Burn Notice!!! I am so glad it's back! I hope they stay in Miami and I feel for Fiona--her broken heart and all. I also like Nate and would like it if he was in the show more. I don't want fewer jobs for Mike & co., I love all the stuff going on in each episode. Two thumns down for a romance between Mike and Carla. He has Fiona--what does he need Carla for?!

sarah connor Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 10:06 PM EST

If anyone is interested in obtaining Touching Evil check out: http://www.tvfreeload.com and download it for FREE.

sabrina Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

Love Burn Notice. Glad it's back, but the only reason I watch is because of Bruce Campbell. Jeffrey Donovan is not cute at all. My only problem with the season premiere was that there wasn't enough of Sam. Please use Bruce more on the show! As for a Sam/Fiona hook-up, NO. Sam can do better. It would be awesome if they did a "let's go to vegas episode with the whole cast," cause I live there.

Arlie Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

I like Fiona, period. She's a loyal character. If they do away with her because of fan negativity I think that is a shame.

karolplus Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

What's this preoccupation with looks, and not talent? If she were ten pounds heavier, I bet Gabrielle would be condemned as being too heavy. She is absolutely believable as an agent who can con and outshoot anyone. She is trying especially hard at conning herself and Michael into believing they're just co-workers. But go no further than tension because I want this show to go on and on.... Am I the only one who feels that Mama and bro slow the pace down? So unless Mike can teach her to turn her burned coffeemaker into an explosive device...

Rose Tyler Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 09:18 AM EST

I want to be Fiona! I just love her super neurotic, gun loving ways. We know too little about Carla to even consider her as a love interest at this point. Sure she's hot but so far her character has nothing on Fi's.

Hermanell Moody Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 03:36 AM EST

I thought the season opener was a let down...especially after the season's one build up and finally. More BS on who burned him and why...let's get to the point an move on. As for Fi she's great, size and all. Just because she's petite doesn't mean she can't act.

Lexi Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 01:38 AM EST

I have been SOOOO waiting for Burn Notice to come back. It is the best thing on TV right now ... well written, beautifully acted, nothing 'generic' or cliched (especially when it comes to the 'spy' stuff ... you can tell they are being advised by pros). Jeffrey Donovan is a gift to this show. He says more with just a look than most could do with an entire monologue. Thank you Matt Nix !!!!

Jacky Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 01:32 AM EST

LOVE Burn Notice ... have been waiting since last September for last night's ep. The only prob I had - and it REALLY bugged me - was Sam's Caddy coming off the trailer and Michael driving away in it ... how did it get off the trailer (backwards!) w/no ramp ... and NOT get damaged? (except for a broken tail-light that they didn't show until it was back at Michael's place). This show is too, too good for that kind of obvious goof. I re-played it twice because I was sure I missed something that showed to explain it ... but no ... just a 'we cheated it' moment.

Sina Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 11:57 PM EST

I like this show but I would prefer Michael with a new chick, any chick. Fi looks terrible and I hate saying that because I love the character. Like that episode where Michael had to pretend to rob her and she just kept punching him in the face. Loved it but her tan and her rib cage is so distracting to look at. And a big NO to a Sam/Fi hook up. Love Nate and give Mama a boyfriend.

rick Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 09:09 PM EST

i watch burn notice every thursdaay night and have told a few friends about the show, If Fiona gone iam gone too she makes a great partner. Shes not that thin too me

Joy Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

Is it me, or does Bruce Campbell look more handsome this season. I love that guy! Burn Notice is a great show and deserves a large audience. I hope more people tune in...and yes, please leave them in Miami. It's gorgeous!

Noticeably Burned Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 07:52 PM EST

I am not interested in Carla at all for some reason. Maybe I'm bored with the whole "who burned me" backstory for some reason. Ah, I have it: it doesn't seem like Michael really misses his old life. Or I don't know why he would, perhaps that's it.
I have a couple suggestions to avoid getting too formulaic: how about NOT making every person Michael helps a scaredy-cat pea-brain he has to coolly reassure? How about Michael becoming ever so slightly more human? He just seems so above it all and distant. I like when his fears and insecurities get rattled just a little. (But I HATED the Lucy Lawless psychological manipulation of Michael's abused inner child plotline. It was hammy.)

Alanna Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 07:09 PM EST

Time to get shallow.

While I definitely agree that Anwar is WAY too thin, one thing I do love about her is that her face looks like a gorgeous, sexy, 38-year-old woman's. No botox -- I've seen forehead wrinkles. It does look a bit too stretched sometimes, but I think that's the weight (or lack thereof.)

And I also love that this show is set AND filmed in Miami, and not LA-pretending-to-be-Miami. Let's hear it for the Southeast!

Endia Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

i'm all for team fiona. her and michael deserve to be together.shes the only one who can put up with his bs

Endia Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 04:15 PM EST

i'm all for team fiona. her and michael deserve to be together.shes the only one who can put up with his bs

Why oh why Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 03:32 PM EST

What kind of fat cows are you hanging out with, to think that Fi is that thin? Anyway, good episode, although the tech guy was a bit annoying. Can't wait for more.

Jill Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I am so glad other people like this show besides me. I felt like the only one last summer. I'm developing a major crush on Jeffrey Donovan. Sexy arms when shooting!! I've been a huge Bruce Campbell fan since Brisco County Jr. Him walking around in Michael's too-small shirt was hilarious. I like Fiona too. She does seem a little needy for Michael's affection. And she's very, uhhh, in shape. Sharon Gless needs to do something else besides have hysterics. I could get used to a new female but it would be predictable to hook them up. And please stay in Miami!!!

Laurie Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

Nothing wrong with a little Fiona/Sam! She could whip him into shape and he could whip her a little out of shape. And Bruce Campbell makes everyone within ten feet instantly more interesting and fun.

suzan Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

I think Fi is Fabulous, i love this show. Michael is a hottie! His mom is awesome & i love Sam too.

Nicole Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 02:02 PM EST

I am squarely in Fi's camp, but she looks bad this season. She lost weight and her hair got fat. NASTY. I thought she was skinny last season, but she looked hot and in good fighting shape. This season, she looks gaunt. I miss Nat, too. Love Burn Notice and I am waiting for Pysch and Monk to start. USA is my summer station.

Gerry Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 01:20 PM EST

I love the show but I agree Fi is too, too, skinny.Maybe if she put on some pounds her face would look better too,not so drawn!Michael needs someone else but NOT Carla.

Rasha Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 01:13 PM EST

You might kick me, but I wish they'd recast Fiona. She's too over-the-top with her sexuality, and she's starting to look like a too thin piece of beef jerky. I'm glad they got her some new conditioner, never under estimate the awesomeness of volume and body!

I was kind of disappointed in the premiere. I think the show should stay in Miami, but I felt like things got to normal too easily. I was hoping they'd torture our beloved Mikey or do more than cart him upstate and give him another job. I'm excited for the rest of the seaon though! And I'm all for Mike being single...I want him to date a non-spy! Give civilians a chance!

mjryan Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

I thought the episode, with the exception of the fake out shoot out, was rather ho-hum. I want to like Gabriel Anwar - I always think of her in the movie where she jumped a horse off a high dive and lost her sight - but she just doesn't look good. She's too thin and muscular. Plus, Fiona rather annoys me with her constant desire to Talk About Their Relationship. So, count me among Team Carla.

Reid Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

I love the character of Fi, but yeah, she definitely needs a biscuit. She doesn't look healthy, she looks homeless.

All in all, it seemed like a good restart episode. Enough of a callback to the previous season to satisfy, but you can see the show's headed in a new direction. Can't wait for next week.

http://www.reidaboutit.com

LynnP Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

I've been waiting since Sept.20th for last night's show. AWESOME! Loved the network countdown prior to the actual start. Definitely FI. Yes, she's thin, but did you check out her arms. The girl has either been practicing "shooting them" or really working out. Jeffrey Donovan was incredible as usual. I hope they skip the one night stand with Carla. She's not Michael's type.

Ep Sato Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

Sorry to hear the author of the blog's not getting any nookie.

Regarding whether or not a dude would want a woman who's so loyal as his girl, I will point you all to the Archie series. Betty bends over backwards for Archie, yet he dumps her at the side of the road whenever he can get a chance at Veronica, who often treats Archie like garbage.

I'm all for another hottie on Burn Notice and am happy to see Tricia Helfer's got some post BSG acting gigs.

Henry Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:47 PM EST

I think, at this point, I prefer Fiona. But that was only 'cause they had Tricia Helfer at the end of the episode instead of all throughout (voice on the phone doesn't count)! I didn't notice that Anwar was so thin. I may look for it now, but I've always thought Anwar was very attractive.

I may change my vote to Carla before the end of the season, though. I just love Tricia Helfer, man (Spoiled by Battlestar Galactica)...

Dissenter Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:42 PM EST

I am going to go against everyone else and put my vote squarely in the Team Carla camp.

joopiter Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:28 PM EST

That's funny... I can't look at Patrick Fischler without remembering his creepy role in the infamous "Fur and Loathing" episode of CSI. :)

Mells Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

I'm totally into Fi & Michael but since they're on the 'outs' I wouldn't mind her hooking up w/ someone just so Mike will be miserable and miss her. BUT that someone better NOT be Sam - that's just an awful, awful idea.

Kristina Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

I really like Burn Notice and Jeffrey Donovan. I loved Touching Evil and was sad that I never saw it on tv again. That was a good show. I like what he brings to the characters he plays. I also am voting for Fiona and Michael, although I'm pretty sure they're setting it up for a possible one night stand with Carla. And even though I'm all for Fiona and Michael being together I think that, for now, it'd be nice to see her with someone else and to see how Michael will react to that.

Mel Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST

Haha! So funny yes I agree that when Fiona stands sideways she becomes invisible. Its makes me a little sick to look at her especially that bathing suit scene. She looks like an Olsen. Anyway great opening episode and I can't wait for more show and more Mini TV Watches!

Cristina Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 11:46 AM EST

I agree about poor Gabrielle Anwar/ Fiona - rarely can it be said that a girl looks better fully clothed than in skimpy outfits than in her case. I wish she would gain some weight. But then I realize how hypocritical I am being - can't we just enjoy a woman's performance without discussing her weight? We aren't saying anything about Sam!

Anyway, great show - love it love it love it and yes, we need more Nate and I would love it if Fiona started seeing someone else. But honestly, when do they have the time? The question that was also uppermost in my mind last night was: is Michael gonna get paid for these new jobs with Carla? How else is he gonna afford all those Hello Kitty cellphones he uses? Did I miss that part?

Solsbury Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 11:45 AM EST

Yes, let's get Veronica back. Any time a Landers sister is on the screen it's a good thing.

Team Fi! Carla vs. Fi would be the best cat fight since Joan Collins and Linda Evans on Dynasty. And you know that Fi fights dirty. Loved the look on her face as she "missed" shooting at Michael. And I loved Michael's explanation to his Mom why he wasn't around for 10 years and her response was "Couldn't you at least write"? And his letting Fi go was to protect her as well. They have the love/hate relationship that neither will never walk away from. Glad this show is back. We missed you Michael Weston!

Let's all send Gabrielle Anwar some food pronto. She is painfully thin. Did you see her spine when she turned around on the boat? And the scene where she was showing her torso - not healthy or sexy at all. I love her character but they need to make her eat something. She is even thinner this season than last. A "Feed Fiona" campaign? Love the show and glad its back!

Yes to Fiona, Yes to Nate coming back, but I'd like to see Fiona "move on" and stick it to Michael a little...maybe with Nate? Yeah, that's hardly a twist thats never been done.
BTW: happy you pointed out how skinny Fiona is. I was counting spinal discs in the scene when they were rigging the boat up to blow up.

The only thing more played out than the "Let's go to L.A. episode" is the "Let's go to Vegas episode." Glad to see the show is staying Florida for the time being. I know from living here that it's just as wonderfully kooky (mostly just kooky) a place as any.

I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only one freaked out by the scene behind Winkie's in "Mulholland Drive."
