Just how classic are the Top 100 New Classic TV Series of the last 25 years, as listed in the new 1,000th issue of EW? You can judge for yourself by watching many of them online. Over at Hulu, where they like lists as much as we do, they asked us to curate a collection of representative episodes from 10 of the shows on our list. (Selecting the individual episodes was EW.com's panel of expert couch potatoes, namely, Annie Barrett, Michael Slezak, and me.) To get you started, here's a memorable full episode of Arrested Development (the No. 16 series on our Top 100 list), season 1's "Public Relations."

Here at PopWatch, we'll be rolling out each of the episodes we picked over the next 10 days, or you can watch them all in one sitting over at Hulu. (Vol. 1, containing our first five picks, is here; Vol. 2 is here.)

No Batman: The Animated series!?! It's the best portrayal of a superhero outside of the comic book medium.

No Scrubs? What about Band of Brothers? Does that not count because it was a mini series?

It was because Kevin and Winnie didn't end up together, wasn't it? Because that's a huge oversight.

Ok, lots of great choices (Hooray ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT! Freaks and Geeks!) but what about The Wonder Years? Family Ties? Are you kidding me with THE HILLS??? That is insulting EW! Melrose? Saved By the Fricking Bell?????

Regarding your recent Top New TV Classics: I'm so incensed, I can't sleep! How in the world can you leave out "Sports Night" and "Scrubs"?! Easily the best comedies on TV- should rank up their with "Seinfeld" and "the Office" (UK version.) To see other shows on that list like "The Hills" and "Saved by the Bell" and snub "Sports Night" and "Scrubs"?? I can't take your sorry excuse for a Best TV Shows list seriously. Please redeem yourself and put out a Mea Culpa on next week's issue and add those shows on the list, and then all will be well.

My question is: can you now put "Hulu Curator" on your resume?
Good selections for Vol. 2, pretty much the exact eps I would've chosen except I would've put "Office Olympics" for The Office.

Also, here are some more hugely popular and beloved new classics from the last 25 years that are inexplicably missing from your list:

The Princess Bride
Finding Nemo
Back to the Future
Amadeus
Sense and Sensibility
Beauty and the Beast
Amelie
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Jurassic Park (sorry, Bernadin).

Of course, considering the fact that this list was composed entirely by male critics, and considering the fact that several of the films I just mentioned are considered "girl movies", I'm not surprised they were left off the list. Next time EW, if you do a list like this, please include some female critics so we can have a balanced perspective.

I know this post is technically about the Top 100 TV Shows, but I'll use it to say this about your Top 100 New Classic Movies: Where on earth was "The Shawshank Redemption"??? A wonderful favorite of many... voted as the #2 best movie of all time on IMDb... I can't believe you guys left that off!

Andy Dufresne Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

Go check IMDB's Top 250 list (which I would hope someone did before/while compiling the New Classics 100 Movies, just to be thorough if nothing else). Check the top 6, and notice that 3 of those films are from the last 25 years. Now let me know why only 2 those 3 made this top 100. Someone call the cops.

Arrested Development all the way up at #16? EW, you HAVEN'T made a huge mistake. ;)

Billie Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 11:09 AM EST

So you are saying that "new classics" = "best shows". Yeah, right. The Office is #61, below Xena, BH90210, Baywatch... Look, if you want to defend the list as encompassing "most popular", most influentional (whether good or bad), or some other criteria that's fine. But to say this is ranking "the best" is laughable.

How can you have a list of the best shows of the past 25 years without including The Wonder Years and China Beach?? Try again....

Sarah Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

Great list guys, I was getting nervous when I was into the Top 10 and hadn't hit the Lord of the Rings and I was about to curse you all, but then I got to it and all was forgiven! I didn't think it would be as high as it was.
