Who got left off Emmy's shortlists for Best Drama and Best Comedy?

Emmynoms_l Brace yourselves, TV addicts: The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have announced the top 10 finalists for Emmy nominations in the Best Comedy Series and Best Drama Series categories. And before we get into snubs territory, it should be noted that fans of PopWatch favorites such as The Wire (left), Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, Flight of the Conchords, and Pushing Daisies have reason to celebrate. No, none of the shows have landed nominations (yet), but they're still in the running for their initial Best Series nods.

The shorlists are as follows. Under consideration for Best Drama are: Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Grey’s Anatomy, House, Lost, Mad Men, The Tudors, and The Wire. Still in the running for Best Comedy are: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, The Office, Pushing Daisies, 30 Rock, Two and a Half Men, Ugly Betty, and Weeds. (Click here to get the specific episodes for which each series is being considered.)

Good news aside, my first response to the lists was this: Where the frak is the nail-bitingly awesome Battlestar Galactica (right)? I call SciFiPhobia! And coming off a particularly strong season, shouldn't Desperate Housewives have won a spot over Two and a Half Men and Family Guy? (Maybe the Emmy overlords feel the residents of Wisteria Lane aren't done paying the price for the Applewhite Incident?)

Who else would make your list of snubs? And which finalists have you doing the happy dance? Holla!

ga fan Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 07:43 AM EST

About GREYS, I watched only Freedom Part 2 because Shonda said "for good" about my couple. The past crap (Addison, Rose,..) annoyed me a lot.

Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 06:12 AM EST

LOST had a great season, with "the constant" and all, it deserves to win!!! Great plot and amazing acting by Michael Emerson and Henry Ian Cusick...

Susan Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 08:20 PM EST

Peter,
I know its boggles my mind. The writers are award worthy as is the the great ensemble cast! Like no other!

Peter Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 08:08 PM EST

Susan-
I completely agree. I can't believe Cold Case was robbed again! It's one of the best shows on TV right now and for some reason, it gets overlooked each year. It's a shame.

FNL Rocks Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 04:22 PM EST

Yesyesyesyes- FNL gets past the first hurdle. Nonononono- Boston Legal again? And no HIMYM? Oh well. But if FNL gets recognized, I will point my viewing numbers towards the Emmy telecast again.

Mary in TX Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

As usual, "The Shield" got the shaft from the Emmys. It's incredible how the SAME shows get noms each year ("Boston Legal," anyone?) while other, more creative options get ignored. I'm glad that "Mad Men" is getting some attention, at least...

Namor Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

WTF?! No BSG? Figures :(

T-DIZZLE Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 09:56 AM EST

If MARY MCDONNELL and EDWARD JAMES OLMOS get snubbed this year and grade C actors like HEWITT, SEDGWICK and ARQUETTE get nominated, then the ACADEMY HAS OFFICIALLY FAILED!

Damage Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 09:54 AM EST

This is a shame! Battlestar Galactica is some of the best TV on TV. Lost is LOST. I repeat, Lost is L-O-S-T. I am so tired of people exaggerating about LOST's supposed greatness. A polar bear on an imaginary island. Gotta love it.

John K Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 09:19 AM EST

LOST should return to the top this year - great season and that episode "The Constant" was just pure magic. Battlestar should obviously be on there as well but obviously the Emmy's dislike scifi (hence LOST being nowhere last year). Wouldn't mind seeing Dr. Who get a little respect - watch that "Blink" episode and tell me that truly wasn't a masterpiece. Just can't do it.

Sadie Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 09:18 AM EST

I'm happy with the long lists (Yay Office, 30 Rock and Pushing Daisies), but we'll see about the short lists. HIMYM was robbed; how can you not love Barney/NPH? I would rather poke sharp pencils in my eyes than watch 2.5 Men or Grey's Anatomy, so they should be gone.

That said, I think folks are forgetting that the episodes that are nominated are the only things the Emmy voters are supposed to consider. While a show as a whole might be more enjoyable than its contemporaries, maybe the nominated ep isn't as strong as others. But again, 2.5 Men and Grey's should be never be nominated again. Dreck.

Julia Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 08:38 AM EST

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILIDELPHIA?!?!?!? By far the funniest show since Arrested Development!

coco Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 08:32 AM EST

Big Bang Theory & How I Met Your Mother are my two favorite comedy shows.
BBT always-always makes me LOL.
I'm really disappointed.
In general it's OK but hopefully they will get a chance next year.

Ceballos Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 08:26 AM EST

To Luv-

I hear what you're saying and I agree that the show not getting nominated for a brilliant 4th season is a travesty. Still, i think that overdue recognition (or at least recognition that's one year late) is still better than none at all.

Luv 4 The Wire and FNL Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 04:09 AM EST

Am I the only one who finds the overdue recognition of The Wire to be just *slightly* disingenuous?
Not taking anything away from this momentous achievement, just that the fact it never even got nominated (let alone won hands down) for season 4 is one of the saddest, gravest injustices the Emmys (or any other major award for that matter) has ever perpetrated.

My picks for drama noms:
The Wire
Friday Night Lights
Mad Men
Lost
Dexter

common sensse Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 11:38 PM EST

The fact that 'Desperate Housewives' isn't even on the short-list for Best Comedy and 'Two and a Half Men' is just proves how backward and illogical the Emmy nomination process is.

S4 of DH was the best its been in three years. While S3 of 'Weeds' pretty much sucked, as did S4 of 'Entourage' and S2 of 'Ugly Betty.' What the hell is going on?

If I had my way, the nominated shows would be:

Desperate Housewives
30 Rock
The Office
Pushing Daisies
Family Guy

The voters really screwed up this year. Lets just hope the actual ladies of Wisteria lane aren't shut out either.

LOST and BSG Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 10:49 PM EST

Best shows on TV.

Eli Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Lost and Battlestar Galactica are the only two worthy nominees this season. The fact that Battlestar Galactica will not be nominated deminishes the compettion and doesn't serve the legitimize an unsignificant award.

sosayweall Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 08:41 PM EST

Frak the emmy's!

Laura M Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 07:37 PM EST

Where is Doctor Who?? Only the most popular show in Britain, Doctor Who and its lead actor David Tennant seriously deserve some Emmy attention for their outstanding work. I can never understand why they are consistently ignored not only by American Awards, but also by EW.

Susan Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 07:37 PM EST

Cold Case gets the snub again? This series should be winning tons of Emmy's!

Bill in Seattle Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 07:28 PM EST

a couple of years ago they nominated Ellen Burstyn foolishly for a, what...45 second role? well, she honestly deserves one this year for a small but beautifully performed supporting guest role in BIG LOVE. hope she gets the nod. also, in the same show and same category...Bonnie Bedelia.

elysia Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 07:00 PM EST

Entourage, 'nuff said.

Dee Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

The Emmy's are definitely afraid to roll the hard six, aren't they?? FRAK ME!!! BSG and Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos????? I'll say it again, FRAK ME!!

Maybe LOST will pull it off.

mjade27 Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 12:47 PM EST

The Emmys are almost as bad as the Grammys when it comes to missing the boat.

It is a crime that BSG gets overlooked. Big Love was also amazing this year.

I am super excited over Flight of the Conchords getting on the list, though it's a tough call between Bret and Jemaine and Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy.

GA Lover Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 12:06 PM EST

I support Grey's Anatomy (without the blonde cow)

ME Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

GREY'S ANATOMY because I LOVE THE SHOW and I HATE Katherine HEIGL.

Alex Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 07:33 AM EST

Out of all the animation on TV, they HAD to pick Family Guy. It's especially embarrassing when they could have picked South Park, not only the best animated show but the best SHOW, period, on TV instead.

Eddie the Eagle Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 04:35 AM EST

BattleStar not on the list... maybe because you need to watch the entire season to understand. I tried to watch an episode and was lost. And when I tried to watch again it was hard to find. Greys and House are shows you can tune in anytime during the year and its on EVERY channel. Fox and ABC run great reruns when it comes to nomination time, so its easy to understand why these shows are making the cut. I think that if BattleStar made the cut, there would be fuss over something, can't please em all.

Lauren Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 01:43 AM EST

It's pretty much a crime against television that Mary McDonnell hasn't been nominated for every season she's done on Battlestar Galatica.

As for the show itself. Really hasn't been all that good since season two but it's most certainly better than Grey's and House. By what psycho definition of quality did those two make it to the shortlist?

babyloki Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 12:17 AM EST

Hands down LOST should take it for best drama!!! Best Actor should also come from LOST and be given to Henry Ian Cusick!

Lilibeth Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 11:34 PM EST

FNL FTMFW!! Wooo!

Clayton Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 11:11 PM EST

I'm so glad to see Lost, Pushing Daisies, and Flight of the Conchords on the shortlists. Let's hear it for good shows getting their due (well...so far)!

Teresa Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

BSG is stolen every year.

Hunter Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 06:46 PM EST

The Closer?!?!?

Craig Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

What about The Riches? Excellent show that just keeps getting better. Also, even with its abbreviated season, I'd include Chuck in the nominations.

css Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

BONES! and yes, BSG, HIMYM and The Big Bang Theory (Oh, and Doctor Who, which really is the best scifi on right now)

Alex Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 04:05 PM EST

How the hell does Two and a Half Men keep getting nominated? That has got to be the worst show on the air aside from Leave it to Jim. Terrible misogynistic writing, typical sitcom setups and jokes, I mean honestly who watches that garbage?

Teresa Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

I agree with all the comments about How I Met Your Mother. That show is hilarious and deserves some love!!!

Jess Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 03:09 PM EST

Why does CSI never get nominated for anything anymore?? I mean, Jorja Fox's performance this season was great! and I completely agree about BSG!

Alex Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 12:44 PM EST

I've just discovered "How I Met Your Mother" on DVD and I must say that the show is incredible in just about every way. It's fun, quirky, quotable, and possesses a great premise and strong ensemble. I think they should have gotten in over "2.5 Men" at the very least.

Meredith44 Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 11:36 AM EST

--To Susan: I do actually take an interest in "reality", volunteering at a women's shelter and serving as an elections volunteer in November, among other things. I just also love television.
On to the real post...
--I think that the Emmy system is what results in skewed nominations. Grey's Anatomy sucked overall this year (although I watched every episode), but the episodes submitted were really good. Thus, it got put on the short list. The same is true of Boston Legal and others. Plus, it is hard to understand the brilliance of a lot of serialized shows (like Lost and BSG) from one stand alone episode.
--I'm most upset about the snubs of How I Met Your Mother and BSG (although its first two seasons were better, it is still higher quality than other shows on the list).
--I wish that Family Guy, Two and a Half Men, Grey's Anatomy, and Boston Legal weren't on the list.
--Now I just hope that when this list gets winnowed down to 5, that the worthy ones are still on there!

To Susan Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 10:28 AM EST

Why are you posting on Popwatch? Shouldn't you be out saving tuhe universe? Go take a hike in your gas-guzzling SUV!

KEVIN Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

I'M JUST GLAD "LOST" HAS RETURNED TO THE RACE!
DISAPPOINTED THAT "OLD CHRISTINE" AND "HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER" WERE LEFT OFF AS PER USUAL. EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTED EW LEFT BOTH SHOWS OFF THEIR NEW CLASSICS LIST, GIVEN THE MAG HAS BEEN SUCH A STAUNCH SUPPORTER OF BOTH.

mat Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 09:59 AM EST

LOST deserves to win not only for this Season but for the second half of last season also.

Ron Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 09:55 AM EST

I think BIG LOVE had one of the best, most riveting seasons, but LOST should take it this year. Perhaps BL is too far out of the memory after the chaos of the writer's strike?

Concerned Citizen Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

Flight of the Conchords? Are you kidding me? That show is as funny as dirt.

DalGal Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 09:07 AM EST

I agree with the others who stated that The Closer should have been on the short list as well. If though it is a "summer show" does that make it less Emmy-Worthy? The one episode that should have thrust this show onto the Best Drama Category was entitled "Ruby". Without a doubt the finest acting, writing and direction I saw last year. And that includes every other show listed here.

I too wouldn't mind seeing a dramedy category. I hate the fact the DH ladies are nominated in comedy which takes away from true comedians and vice versa.

Susan Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 08:29 AM EST

Since I don't watch telelvision very much, I can't really comment on this. However, it seems to me that if there was as much interest in reality as there is in television shows, the world might possibly be in a little bit better shape. Instead of hollering about your tv shows, you could write to your senators about the price of gasoline, y'know...think about it.

mscisluv Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 08:20 AM EST

I completely agree with Snsetblaze, who suggested the "Dramedy"category. Mostly because I still don't understand how anyone could see Boston Legal as a Drama! I think the show is clever, but I was pretty furious that it walked away with Best Drama, when it really isn't one.

The producers of the shows could choose which category they fit into, but certainly Boston Legal and Desperate Housewives (among others) are confusing genres, and a Dramedy category would help that.

Rose Tyler Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 08:04 AM EST

Curb made the list! That's pretty, pretty, pretty good as Larry might say. I do hope David himself secures a nomination. Micheal Scott has nothing on Larry David when it comes to making you cringe with sheer delight.
Also super happy to see The Tudors on the list. This past season trumped the first. Natalie Dormer is very much at the center of that. How she made me feel sorry for Anne Boleyn will always astound me.

Andrea D Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 07:54 AM EST

The Emmys are a waste of time. Repetitive nominees like Grey's Anatomy prove that there are few if any people with imagination voting. Anyone getting upset over this should forget about it- it's irrelevant. GO BATTLESTAR!!!

MsDaisy Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 07:50 AM EST

Don't see how Boston Legal gets in the drama category...it is so clearly a comedy. Spader and Shatner are the best comedy team on televison, much funnier than Sheen and Cryer.

kim in kentucky Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 06:59 AM EST

Family Guy? FAMILY GUY? Yes, I watch it (for Stewie of course)- but no way should it be nominated -- esp since The Simpsons have never been

RLL Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 05:30 AM EST

I am very happy with the list of potential nominees. I agree with Phil's comment. BSG should not be nominated for this season (or last), even though I am a big fan of the series. Best drama hands down is Lost (even over my beloved The Wire). FNL also had a subpar second season compared with the first. And forget about talking comedy. Many of those shows I do not watch. (I have seen one episode of Two and a half Men on an airplane and I fail to see the allure).

are u kidding Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 04:18 AM EST

ARE YOU KIDDING? grey's anatomy? it was my favorite show of all time until it broke my heart with crappy episode after crappy episode. don't encourage the writers with another nomination.

Scott Sat, Jun 28, 2008 at 02:01 AM EST

Top 5 Drama:

Boston Legal
Grey's Anatomy
Lost
Mad Men
The Wire

Top 5 Comedy:

Entourage
Pushing Dasies
The Office
30 Rock
Weeds

akara Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 11:52 PM EST

Flight of the Conchords had me doing the HAPPY dance. I LOVE that show, so no angry dancing for me ;) Also happy about 30 Rock, Dexter and Pushing Daisies. Oh and I love the Office but I'm not sure it was as good this season as in the past.

In conclusion, Flight of the Conchords for the win!

Marty Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 11:44 PM EST

Where is "The Closer?"

Charm Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 11:23 PM EST

How I Met Your Mother should have been nominated. The show keeps on getting better every season.

LOST LOST LOST LOST!!!!!!!

How about Breaking Bad?

SPDuke Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 10:17 PM EST

Stop the presses! Big Bang Theory is the funniest show on TV! Where's the nod?

tvFan Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 09:12 PM EST

LOST fans have reason to celebrate to! after the show has been snubbed two years in a row! when it kept redefining television...

MY EMMY HOPEFULS- Drama
-LOST
-The Wire
-Dexter
-Mad Men
-Friday Night Lights

Comedy
-Family Guy
-30 Rock
-Pushing Dasies
-The Office
-Flight Of The Conchords

if LOST isn't nominated.... i don't know what i'll do...

oh yeah and michael emerson too...

Kate Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 09:07 PM EST

New Adventures of Old Christine is the funniest show on the air! Way better than two and a half men.

Grey's didn't have that great of season, but the finale episodes submitter were phenomenal and that's all that matters to win an Emmy!

Annie Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 08:18 PM EST

I'm exceptionally happy to see 30 Rock, The Office, and Flight of the Conchords on the short list. Really upset not to see Battlestar Galactica. I hope they're going to make up for that with acting nods because, seriously, if Mary McDonnell goes the entire series run with no nomination, the Emmys will be even more irrelevant than they already seem to be.

nunya Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:53 PM EST

i'm okay with the list, except grey's anatomy should no longer be nominated for anything ever. the show is simply too stupid and often caters to the lowest denominator of society (i love patrick dempsey though). also if hugh laurie doesn't win the emmy for best actor in a drama for HOUSE i'm gonna want to punch someone in the face.

Carli Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

It's nice to see some of these things on the list (FNL!), but they're almost guaranteed to be cut once it's narrowed down. And where's the BSG love? Or Big Love? In Treatment?

Michael Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

They did mention Flight of the Conchords on the shortlist of Emmys. Boy do i feel stupid.

Michael Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:43 PM EST

I am surprise there is no Emmy mention for The Flight of the Concords. It is not laugh out loud funny but it is entertaining and unique. It is also the only comedy show that can be called a musical as well. Why is also Family Guy on this list. I will admit that i do watch it but it has been better. The most dispointing show of the year is My Name is Earl. The first two seasons were good but this 3rd season made it unwatchable to me.

Rebekah Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

They missed Big Love. It is such an amazing show. Maybe the actors will get nominated.
I am very happy for The Tudors. I hope the show and its actors make it.

actingup Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

For comedy - where is "Old Christine"? Or how about some love for "Scrubs"?
For drama - where is "Medium" and "Big Love"?

And why oh why are "Two and a Half Men" and "Boston Legal" always on the Emmy ballot? I don't get and can't stand either show.

Carly Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

They picked the wrong Chuck Lorre sitcom. The Big Bang Theory is the best sitcom on the air, not Two and a Half Men.

John Scollard Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 06:43 PM EST

Did everyone forget about the sensational new series "Breaking Bad" and the show's fearless star, Bryan Cranston? I don't understand how anyone could, but this is an obvious snub to me.

David B Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 06:40 PM EST

The best shows on TV are: Battlestar Galactica, Rescue Me, The Closer, Nip/Tuck, Medium, and Big Love. Nothing these numbskulled Emmy people do will change any of that, or my viewing habits.

psootloops Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 06:00 PM EST

why isn't HBO's In Treatment being considered for best drama?

Henry Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

They missed the best show on TV. The CLOSER

Ben Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:38 PM EST

Thank God Wire is finally getting some emmy love (although 30 might not be the best choice, whilst it's incredible tv, the emmy voters don't tend to like deep thought provoking tv that involves them remembering episodes of a show from yesteryear)
Well Lost, Dexter are great to see on the list, and with no Heroes, Lost is almost certainly going to grap the emmy, especially as there was so little else good on tv (apart from the aforementioned Dexter and Wire). I remember last year when Lost got to this stage, only to have its place taken by Heroes (some bs about the voters only wanting to put on one sci-fi show)
In terms of comedy it's great to see The Office, 30 Rock and Pushing Daisies getting the nod, shame about HIMYM not getting it, tis far better than 2 1/2 Men.
Infact most of the noms are tad odd. Boston Legal? Never hear anything about it and yet last year it got a nom over Lost and here it is again, same with GA.
Shame about BSG though, though it probs wasnt on in time for noms.

Ryan Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

Old Christine, Desperate Housewives, Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, Brothers and Sisters. Otherwise a decent list. I'm happy to see Damages made the cut.

Mary Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:06 PM EST

NCIS should be up for best drama series and the cast should be included in nominations. It's the best series on television. Excellent series, fantastic stories and plot lines, and an ensemble cast that is head and shoulders above any other series. The mere fact that it is ignored by the entertainment industry and media only confirms for me the fact that it's out of touch with reality.

Andrew Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:04 PM EST

I am happy to see Dexter and Weeds on the list but Two and a Half Men ????? O Pleaseeeeeeee ....

Heather Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 05:00 PM EST

Rescue Me would have made me happy but as long as The Wire is still on the list I'm not going to complain too loudly.

MiSC Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

Monk? Where is he!?

Heather Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Dancing with joy that Lost is on the shortlist after being so snubbed these few years and that Heroes is not on the shortlist. Sorry, but it was basically a wet rag for most of the 2nd season.

And why is Entourage on there? Is it even funny?

Yss Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

How I met your Mother out! and Two and A Half men in!...that's just wrong!!!!!

Celimene Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:03 PM EST

While I'm a "30 Rock" fan, I'm in love with "Flight of the Conchords". Bret and Jemaine have got it goin' on. On the other hand, disappointed that there isn't enough love for "Big Love".

Sharlin Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

I also want to state how happy I am LOST producers used "The Constant" as their emmy entry... by far the best episode and best hour of television this season and of the series ever.

Just give Henry Ian Cusak his Emmy NOW.

Jay Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

It's cool that The Wire finally is getting consideration, but it should have won for season 4. I guess now that The Sopranos has ended its run, HBO's other critical darling can have a chance

Snsetblaze Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

I am disappointed that BSG did not make the list. Though I am probably in the minority, I would have chosen that over FNL and definitely over Greys (though I am a Grey's fan). Perhaps the Emmys should create a third category - dramedy: that is where Boston Legal and Desperate Housewives (and even House and possibly Pushing Daisies) actually belong. And two and half men doesnt belong on any list.

K Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

I don't think Desperate Housewives fans can get too upset; the show has been recognized numerous times in varied categories (not all of them deserved, in my opinion). I find it much more frustrating when shows like BSG (or previously Buffy, VM, Deadwood, the Wire) are consistently overlooked despite being among the best (if not the best) on TV. Maybe BSG had a weaker season, but was it worse than Boston Legal? Or Grey's Anatomy? Thank god the Wire is on that list, so the Emmy's can retain some semblance of integrity. It may be the shows weakest season, but it was still the best thing on TV and deserves an Emmy for the past 4 seasons, which spank every other nominee up and down this list.

That said, hooray for Dexter, Mad Men, 30 Rock, the Office, Conchords and Pushing Daisies. Family Guy and 2 1/2 Men? Lame and unfunny, especially with South Park, HIMYM and the Bid Bang Theory in the mix.

Michelle Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

Excited to see 30 Rock and Office (though those 2 were expected). But am THRILLED that flight of the conchords is listed. same goes for the tudors.

oh the other hand i might very well throw something if family guy gets an official nomination. seriously???? the worst episodes of the simpsons still surpass the best episodes of family guy by leaps and bounds.

mama b Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

JENNIFER BEALS ON THE L WORD.

Jenny Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

Friday Night Lights and Flight of the Conchords!!! Two of my favorites. Disappointed for Big Love, though. Hope it gets some acting noms.

Ames Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

I'm not so much mad about what was left out, but I don't understand some of those inclusions. Family Guy? Really?

Adam Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

I agree with the above post. The Constant was probably the best hour of TV I watched. Henry Ian Cusick should have gotten a nomination, hands down. I'm a huge LOST fan, but I feel like it needs to adjust who they consider "Lead" roles, and who are "Supporting" roles. Without a doubt, Michael Emerson really was the focus of the season. In that case, shouldn't he move to the "Lead" Role? Then I would have considered Henry a candidate for Best Supporting.

In any case, I'm glad they've made it to the semis, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure the Academy will disappoint once again.

My happy dance is for Weeds! I really hope it stands a chance against the network shows. My hope is also that Kevin Nealon is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy as he steals every scene he is in! I just finished S3 last night and his banjo song and dance in the finale should seal his nomination alone!

I'm ecstatic for Pushing Daisies and Friday Night Lights to be on this short list, but I agree, WHERE THE FRAK IS BSG?

Thrilled to see Mad Men and Friday Night Lights in the list. Can't see why Grey's Anatomy belongs there this season.

My two favorite (and most sob inducing) were The Constant and the finale of Mad Men - The Wheel. I think The Wheel was much stronger than the pilot. I am just glad Mad Men is on the list and will keep fingers crossed for Jon Hamm and John Slattery to get noms.
