What's your take on the latest Don Imus imbroglio?

Jun 24, 2008, 10:16 AM | by Mike Bruno

Categories: Celebrity Scandals, Current Affairs, Hollywood Hate Crime, Morning Madness

Donimus_l_2 Don Imus is in hot water again because of an on-air comment about race. On the jock's Monday morning radio show, sports announcer Warner Wolf was telling Imus about the long rap sheet on Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones. After hearing about his six arrests since being drafted out of Tennessee in 2005, Imus' first question was, "What color is he?" Wolf said Jones is African American and Imus responded, "There you go. Now we know." Given that this exchange came just six months after Imus' return to radio after being fired from MSNBC and CBS radio over his infamous "nappy-headed ho's" comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Imus' critics are none too pleased; Rev. Al Sharpton called the radio host's latest remarks ''disturbing,'' and Jones himself said he would pray for Imus.

Imus responded to the hullabaloo by saying that what he meant was that Jones is being picked on because he's black, a comment that seems to satisfy his new employers at WABC and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Vice President Phil Boyce says it's unlikely that any action will be taken against Imus, who went on the air this morning and said he was trying to "make a sarcastic point" with his remarks. "What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason," he said. "I mean, there's no reason to arrest this kid six times."

Still, even if we grant that Imus isn't stupid enough to make another blatantly racist comment on-air so soon after the Rutgers remarks, how did the guy manage to take the single fact that Jones is black and extrapolate that the athlete's legal troubles must be a result of society picking on him because of that? Imus will probably be let off with a hand slap this time around, his fans chalking up the incident to overreaction by Sharpton and members of the media. But it's hard not to read something more into it. Regardless of what Imus "meant" with the Jones comment, his first reaction to hearing about the athlete's criminal record was to ask about his skin color. Perhaps the radio host's issues with race are just too ingrained for him to restrain himself in casual conversation, and perhaps it's time for him to hang up his hat for good. What do you think?

Hey there people....give Imus a break...he's only stating his opinion...everyone has there own opinion...I really enjoy Imus...and will always support him...not everyone likes blacks and not everyone likes white's....in life, everyone can express there opinions

Master Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 11:58 PM EST

Obviously DON IMUS understands that blacks get stopped and arrested more just because they are black (some say more suspicious due to their disproportionately higher rate of commission of crimes-young black males).

This is known as "black profiling."

That was obviously what IMUS meant hearing of an American athelete (hero) getting arrested again for 6th time.

What color is he, he asked? "African-American" came the response. "oh that (meaning Racial Profiling) explains why he gets arrested so much".

This is what many liberals and some sociologists believe ... and whether IMUS shares their view or was making fun of that view, either way the comment was fine. Showed how alert he is to the racial profiling issue; he's very astute! Sorry Al Sharpton, nothing for you to get your teeth into this time (i.e. no tv time for you on this one).

You know why their wasn't people looting, jumping up and down like apes, robbing people at gun point during the Midwest floods? Because those people are civilized, honest, hardworking people with morals. Most of the population of what the mayor called "Chocolate City," are beastly animals who take advantage of others to survive. You look at pictures of them hopping around in the streets and partying and tell me they do not come from Apes. Convince me these people do not come from apess

Guess what? A 12 year old VT girl was on Myspace and was lured in by someone and now is missing. Here's another shocker.....the last video tape of her showed her at a gas station with a coon. Imagine that. If your going to do these kind of things to people, do them to yourselves. Wipe out your own race...not ours. Where are you Al? Where are you Jessie? Spooks!

"Ouch Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 03:00 AM EST
I read a lot of the posts and one really stood out, "As you watch the flooding in the Midwest, have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads. There's no looting or yelling "Where's Bush?", "Where's FEMA?, Where's my check?", or "Why isn't the Gov't out here saving me and my farm?" I noticed no one take that one on. Hmmm...tough one isn't it :)"

AMEN AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!!! Oh thank you for putting that on this board!!! Damn liberals all want the "govment" to pay their way.

dd Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 08:49 PM EST

Nothing positive that's for sure. They are always both part of the problem and never, ever the solution. They have both, particularly Sharpton, spent their lives promoting hatred. They have not advanced black peoples cause or lives, only have set them back. When they are gone, the world will be a much better place and their will be no black or white, just brothers.

Norman Reed Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 07:55 PM EST

It's about time "Reverend" Al went out and got a real job and quit trying to make something of nothing. What has he and "Rev" Jackson contributed to this country?

mike Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 06:39 PM EST

I think that it isn't a big deal. The only one who is making it a big deal is the media.

Ken Lancaster Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

Did the African tribal leaders sell their own people into slavery? If the Blacks had stayed in Africa, wouldn’t they have been used and abused by their own people? Because of what your ancestors went through, you are here, you are living human beings and you have your freedom and the opportunity to do and accomplish anything that you want. Your attitude and choices are what really determine how successful you are. I’m White and I had nothing to do with your history or your issues with our collective society and I'm certainly not stopping you from being successful! My ancestors did nothing for me, they left me nothing, I didn’t get any special favors. Please quit looking at me like I owe you something.

John M Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 05:59 PM EST

Here's my take. Freedom of speech, if he offends you don't listen, if it offends the network they will fire him. I don't even care for the guy myself, but I don't have to tolerate him because I don't listen.

dd Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 04:56 PM EST

ahaha that articles reads that Pac Man Jones says that he will "pray for Imus." Pac Man should pray that he will not get kicked out of the NFL and do time. He should also pray that he no longered be referred to as a worn out, cheap 80's video game.

dd Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

So is their a black person who believes that black athletes do not cause problems? Do they believe that Michael Vick is a good guy? Do they still believe that OJ is a good guy? Do you think its right for Snoop Dogg to preach gangsta rap and hate and killing? Why do you not revere people who have made something of themselves for a positive manner. Like Condoleeza Rice, Tiger Woods, or Colin Powell? And for goodness sakes, when Bill Cosby is telling black people to shape up, something is wrong! Yet, some black people hate Bill Cosby. I think the racism lies in the black race more so these days.

RJ Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

I don't care if anyone calls me a "Pollock", "Cracker", "Honky",whatever. As long as I try to live a good life and don't f*ck with anyone or commit a crime, no one will bother me. However, I do have the right to say anything I want to whoever I want. I served 4 years in the Marine Corps to protect the Constitution. Hate Crimes? I hate all people! Who's going to arrest me? Get real folks, Racism will be around as long as there are people on Earth. Live with it. Are Terrorists racist?

Hiyer Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

I wish Don Imus the best of luck in the future and with that in mind.

Hiyer's tips for basic survival and well being.

#64 - Eyewear
No contacts or surgery. Get 2 pair of fully framed eyeglasses. polycarbonate lens.

#68 - Contraception
Contraception can be achieved by altering the PH level of the womb before intercourse. Essene women used ground lemon rinds in a paste. A recipe can be found on the side of the Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap for the essene method. A salve or paste can also be made from honey and crushed berries.

#72 - Footwear

Boots. Steeltoe, combat boots or similiar. Used or new, doesn't matter as long as they are broken in.

Adam S Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 01:48 PM EST

Who cares about this.. MITT ROMNEY JUST CALLED OBAMA "WELL SPOKEN" and no one blinked an eye. He's a Harvard Law School Grad who draguated the top of his class. What the hell do you expect? The question might be why elitist white folk who graduated elitist harvard KENNEDY school of government like Bill O'Reilly are not well spoken?

Mike Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

Franklee Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 11:07 AM EST

This is the land of free speech. Therefore, it's completely okay for me to say that Imus is a hateful, racist jerk. And so are the folks defending him!

Go...

saundra ann Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 09:38 AM EST

Why don't these minorities wake up! Why is everything a race issue! Talk about racial insecurity! The nation is sick of it--grow up or get out!

NOT PC Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 09:04 AM EST

Enough already!!! When is everyone going to wake up. This is America, you're free to be a jerk! Imus is just doing what Don Rickles, the late Geo. Carlin and many others are or where doing, holding up the preceived notions of what people are based on their looks, color, regions or religions. humor is humor and we better start laughing with the Imus's of the world and listening to what they have to say without the preconcieved notions. And I think what Imus is doing is to stop the hypeniated American. I am only second generation American, no Polish-American, Russian-American and neither are my friends. They are Americans, not Africa-Americans, mexican-Americans etc. I wish Imus would tackle this area also; Are we New Jersey-Calif Americans, Louisiana-Mississippi Americans? Keep up the sarcasium Don. And all Americans should be sending letters of support for Don Imus and others like him.

warrenB1962 Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 07:35 AM EST

Dont bring race in this discussion. He is above any race. He is a super duper looooser and a jeeeeerk. He needs some anger management program and he also needs to quit drinking alcohol and smoking.

power ranger Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 07:32 AM EST

He used to be a gentleman 25 years ago - now he is miserable old man and most of the people do not like him. He does not look good either. He should retire and go to a peaceful place and contemplate his life - why everybody hated him so much.

Thom Bandolini Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 07:28 AM EST

This guys is a trouble maker jeeerrrrkdd. Old and scary looking miserable bigottttt. He has no respect for anyone except himself. Stop paying attention to this old farrrrttt.

Sumia Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 05:54 AM EST

I heard him when he made these latest comments. Any sane person cannot interpret those as racist. He was actually making a point about blacks getting unwanted "extra attention" by law enforcement. It is called racial profiling, which is unfortunate. Not to say that Jones character is all milk and honey...

London Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 05:25 AM EST

Once again Al Sharpton is making a mountain out of a mole-hill... I'm not a Don Imus fan, however I see nothing wrong with what & how he said. He's a radio commentator.. He's there to express his opinion and observations on the world.. If you don;t like what he says.. don;t listen... ask yourself something, "How come nobody complains about the dumb things that come out of Sharton's mouth from time to time?" Cause nobody cares what he has to say perhaps. I think Sharpton is just looking for press coverage... That's all the man has ever done... Ever read about his so-called boycott efforts... Some might call it extortion of corporate America...

I wonder how much trouble Don Imus would be in if instead he refered to that football player as "a typical black person". I think we know the answer to that.

But as I recall a black man did say "typical white person" and I did not see that man told to leave the public forum!

Ouch Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 03:00 AM EST

"Reverend" Jesse Jackson

These people are racists and they don't have ANY rights whatsoEVER to hold any kind of public forum.
And as for YOU, JACKSON, stay the HELL out of the affairs of my family.
Stop trying to help my cousin's killer get appeals and let Justice be done so my family can find closer. My cousin was not granted ANY appeals when she was stabbed and beaten to death in her own house by 2 blacks in 1993.

Mary Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 01:45 AM EST

Al Sharpton get a real job! Imus does more good for children in one
summer than most people do in a lifetime. I am tired of hearing the race card played over everything.

Derek H. Muyskens Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 01:29 AM EST

Imus was foolish for even asking that question. Don you are a smart guy, but I feel that you have a self destructive tendency which you need to get help for.

This country has more important things to worry about, get over it.

Nicky V Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:58 PM EST

Give me a break. I am not a fan of Imus and agree that his Rutgers comments were out of line, but not so bad that he should of lost his job. His recent comments were benign and taken out of context. I continue to be amazed how the pop media focuses so much on this guy. Imus is 87 years old- it is time for him to retire on his own terms.

American Patriot Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:23 PM EST

Imus' comments now and before are kid's play compared to the hate filled speeches of Rev. Wright. Yet we are going to elect Obama President and he attended the hate filled church for 20 years. Unbelievable the double standards.

Going Up Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:04 PM EST

Imus is often funny, sometimes stupid, but never racist. Just watch the Comedy Channel, for crying out loud. It's 2008 and lots of us can handle our race/culture being made fun of, as well as other races/cultures. The ancient intolerance of radical fundamentalists (like those that hit the Twin Towers) is the crap we all need to reject in a truly free society.

BigTime2350 Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 09:59 PM EST

It seems like noadays that when someone makes a comment that is "politically incorrect," all they have to do is say either "I'm sorry" or "What I meant was . . . " and eventually everything is okay. In my opinion, saying anything about anyone should be allowed - PROVIDING that what is said is not racially biased or insulting. Speaking specifically now about Imus' comment about "nappy-headed hos," that was blatantly wrong. There are not any excuses for talking like that and those people who are in the public eye have a responsibility to be an example. Don Imus is in the public eye and has that responsibility. He should never have been allowed back on the air. In my opinion, he is a racist - PERIOD. Now he conveniently "meant" something else when he said "There you go. Now we know." If he "meant" it in such a manner as to be acknowledging the plight of Blacks, he should have said so at the time - not afterwards to "clarify" what he said.

michael grozier Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 09:45 PM EST

truth hurts doesnt it.

spl Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 09:39 PM EST

Wolf brought up the issue of Jone's record, under the First Amendment, Imus has the right to ask the question. He was not insulting from what I heard. If Jones and those similarly situated have bad rap sheets, then they have bad rap sheets. Jones and those like him should clean up their acts and not get in trouble with the law. If you do the deed, you pay the price or you pay to play. Whose doing the drive by shootings? Mr Clean!!

Why can't everyone be truthful and admit there is a conspiracy against african american males and try to come to a conclusion and agree on something to remedy the situaton because if any lawyer take the case it is outright won in any court that there is a national justice in america to conspire to disregard any thing that a black man does in America whether rich or poor, liberal or conservative. look at the comparison in criminal justice system.Thats why we have a illegal immigration problem this day. American companys are breaking thalaw but not being punish but when an african american break the law he can never get a job or be respectable in society ever because of background checks which is a racial and discrimanatory tool of society today that is used in ever aspect of society from Mcdonalds to IBM

Rufus T. Fish Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:39 PM EST

Big deal. Barack Obama is a worthless racist too but it looks like he's going to be the next president. Maybe Imus should run for office since people are so hype to elect bigots these days.

Pedro Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

When my neighbors in rural Kentucky are calling the guy a racist slimeball you know the guy's got problems.

The problem here is that we-the-people aren't calling for a boycott of all of his stations. The government shouldn't do anything to the guy as far as censorship, we should. Somebody's going to beat him up real bad one of these days, and he's going to deserve it.

Ray Vitiello Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:32 PM EST

Gimmie a break. The guy says, maybe 100,000 words a day on the show, and some morons need to pick on a few words. When was the last time you said a couple of words that could be taken out of context??? NOBODY has done more to improve race relations than Imus. And his charitable contributions are peerless. Critics should get a life!

PsychoSavant Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:30 PM EST

Adsevero Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:27 PM EST

I don't agree with the statement "Blacks are more violent", We are all capable of violence! But there's no doubt that your criminal justice system has more blacks in it than whites, Has anyone asked why?

Are we all that naive to think you can really erase hundreds of years of repression so easily?
The Caucasian race is the dominant race in this world, and has been since the beginning of time! And all that really means is that Caucasians have had the privilege of entitlement that "blacks" have not had up until the last 100 or so years, maybe even less.
But this discussion is not about race, it's about insensitivity to race, and ethnicity, and peoples feelings.

But you know what?...It's not Don Imus's fault. These kinds of attitudes are a result of an uneducated mind. Discrimination and racism is learned.

Sharpton is no better!

Yawp Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

Imus and Sharpton both come from a generation that apparently will be forever plagued by the racism and segregation of their time. Scrub as hard as you want that stain's never completely coming out of them. Anyone who tunes into their shows is likely to get offended at some point, especially if you're looking to be offended. So, if you don't agree with their views, stop listening to them. My life is too interesting to waste any of it repeating their past.

Joe Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:16 PM EST

Don Imus' job is to say what he wants, and to keep it "edgy." I find two things to be disturbing... 1. his racism, 2. The public's unwillingness to accept that in America, he is allowed to be.
He certainly isn't the only racist in our country, and at (however old he is) he's probably not going to change. But unless he broke any laws, which he didn't (and if you turn on any reality show, when is the last time a TV network fired anybody for breaking a law on air, so that's not even "fair") or more importantly broke his contract (which I haven't read), then America should change the station, accept that someone is ignorant and get over it.... (Like anybody reading this doesn't deal with ignorance daily in their lives...would you actually impinge on our amendments by firing them? I doubt it... cause it's not in the news.)

PsychoSavant Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:11 PM EST

Imus is racist. Sharpton is racist. Jackson is racist. Wheres the argument?

Sara Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

I think he says what he thinks and feels. I may not always agree with this man, but I admire his courage regarding outspoken 1st Amendment rights!

Ram Sastry Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:04 PM EST

Imus is basically racial. Racism is in his blood, it will not go away just appologoizing last time. He had to appologize because he wanted the job. He should retire now. Enough is enough.
Thanks Ram

PsychoSavant Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

Too bad George Carlin just died. He would love this. Chalk it all up to the American Government for making things intolerably Politically Correct. What a shame.
Imus was right/wrong. Sharpton was wrong/wrong to jump on another one of his band wagons against Imus. Does he do anything of worth for anything?
Two guys entering their twilight who have nothing to offer to anyone. Should anyone care what either one of them say or do?
I look forward to seeing both of these idiots making the news. Its entertainment. I have them both on a Celebrity death game this year.

Some people listen to Imus. Some people like the sound of their own farts. Go figure.

adsevero Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

B.T.W... The reason I brought up where I'm from is that in Canada, if you offend my neighbor you offend me! We would never let anyone continue to do this. The words and attitudes that Imus has obviously found a market for, break down the fabric of society.
It seems to me he has made a conscious decision that his opinions matter to some, and should be heard.
I disagree!

Uparms Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

Imus was right. Arrested 6 times... must be black.

Why pursecute a man brave enough to speak the truth in todays hyper sensitive climate.

God Bless you Don!

I think I-man's brain cells are long gone. He should leave before he starts zoning any more than he does. Beyond that, Milky-White liberal members of the press need to get over their chronic PC hyperventilating. We don't care if Imus implied that black males are more violent than other people. They are!

Adsevero Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

After reading many of the comments below I can only say...Wow, I'm glad I'm Canadian! Don't get me wrong, I think America is an absolutely amazing country and I'm not sure where Canada would be without you. But any moderately intelligent or intuitive person would recognize that Imus's comment was discriminatory.

Imagine if the conversation would have been related not to skin color, but to ethnicity!
Because i respect every race, and ethnic background I will not give you an actual example of a discriminatory comment, but what if he would have said, "Was he Jewish?", or "Was he Muslim?" or even "Was it a woman?, or even "Was he a homosexual?"
If there is anyone who finds any relevance (other than trying to discriminate) in asking any one of those questions I will truly be surprised!
Don Imus got his point across, and the fact that he's given a forum to spread his discriminatory P.O.V's only goes to show the extent of the divisiveness in your country.

Isn't it fascinating that this guy keeps doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different outcome? Isn't that the definition of insanity?
This guy is a misogynist, racist redneck punk who's been doing this for forty years in the name of comedy, and because he sells product for his advertisers and gives of himself to charity, he assumes that he'll get a pass on the other stuff.
Get this idiot off the air NOW. Hey advertisers, where's your backbone?

Phil Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:39 PM EST

This is the garbage that irritates me!! We take this little incident of wrong words or misundersatood meanings and twist them into a media frenzy! Whoever this offends....get over it! Get on with your OWN life and stop worrying about insignificant issues. God knows whoever has issues with these comments has a whole bunch of other things to worry a lot more about!

jim Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:36 PM EST

screw imus , Howard Stern has said a thousand times he has heard Imus call blacks the n-word . he even called robin a n-word to her face . So their is a proving track record of this guys racial hatred of blacks.

Harry Burton Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:33 PM EST

Here we go again. Does anybody really care other than the Rev Al or Jessie Jackson/ It's a non issue. Imus was expressing his insight and not insulting blacks

Rabbi Smecki ( Obviously a fake name) Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:29 PM EST

I seriously hope that this becomes the nail in this guys coffin! As howard stern has said, this guy has such low ratings and is so no coherent that the only time anyone even pays attention to him is when he makes a racil slur. Let's face it this guy is pretty retarded, and not funny and this should end him and let him retire on that ranch that his retarded listener bought for his retarded ass

Thozmaniac Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:27 PM EST

Imus has done nothing wrong.
Slavery has been abolished for 150 years. Not ONE black human being in the USA has ever been a slave and not one white person in the USA has ever owned one.
The blacks need to get the hell down off their high horse and at least make an attempt to act civilized and educated.
Not everyone is out to get them, and playing the race card everytime somebody mentions something that can be twisted to mean something different than the original intent is getting way more than tiresome.
I have nothing at all against blacks, but getting attacked in a supermarket by some who "wanted" my jacket, then my sister being raped and thrown into a secluded lake for dead by blacks may have clouded my senses.

Alpena Bob Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

Sharpton, Jackson & White make Imus look like a jewel. Of course, those 3 clowns have to keep things stirred up otherwise they'd have to find (here's that dreaded word) JOBS!

Dave Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

Don Imus was CLEARLY stating that the fact that PacMan Jones is black is why he got arrested 6 times. It is simply unacceptable that people will take his obviously supportive statement of PacMan to be a negative one. The irony TRULY is sickening. Listen to the recording itself and you will see this is true.

Bill D Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

What I don't understand is why pick on IMUS. Has Rev. Al or anyone else watched the HBO comedy channel lately. "N" word must be used at least 20 times per minute by some black comics. Why is that ok?

Paul Gerber Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

Time for this aging NY pretend cowboy to hang up his spurs.
His racial slurs have just become too much to take.

Mike S. Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

Dogs eat cats, cats eat mice. It’s a viscous cycle! If you can’t stand the heat GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!
If you don’t like Imus, then change the channel and shut the hell up.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Brenda Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

When will we have free speech in this country? We pride ourselves on having "free speech", but we sure don't allow "free speech". He's not right, but he should be entitled to say what he wants to say. If we stop one person from speaking freely, then we stop all. Is that what we want?

denise Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:59 PM EST

wales snales slave owners the lot of ya... Sadly had ROSA not given up her seat on that bus Kennedy, Johnson and no one else what had cared about the plight of black america. It took boycots, sit ins, linchings, bombings, beatings and arrests coming into the living rooms of america via television before a problem was even acknowledged. I am in no way minimizing the scarifices of Kennedy and Johnson how you have minimized the sacrifices of Malcom and Dr. King. It's not Kennedy,Johnson,Malcom or Dr. King's committment to the struggle that is being questioned it's yours. You have no concept what minorities have gone through you are to afraid to even look because you may see that perhaps it's not us it's you...

David C Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

Look! Do we have freedom of speech in this country or only freedom of _acceptable_ speech? If we have freedom of speech, then Don Imus' civil rights haven been violated. If it's only _acceptable_ speech that is constitutionally protected, who chooses what is _acceptable_? We need to live by the constitution or change it! Just for the record, I don't listen to Don Imus.

hoot Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

dude,

to hell with this ugly loser, he looks like an old drunk with a cowboy hat on once a racist always a racist.

thanos_2011 Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

I've been truly amazed at this post. It's a true representation of the best and the brightest and the dumb and the delusional on both sides of this Imus issue. It's crazy how something like melanin and time has turned into a conflict about nothing new: People vs. People. People, good and bad, come in all kinds of "wrappers". But, I would like to think that most people: Black, White and Others are overall good people and if you are contributing to this post you probably want things to be better between everyone. If we focus on the content of a person and stop creating issues around who has more or less melanin, we will probably get a lot further in understanding each other. I think you’ll find that we all want the same things in life and have a lot more in common (good and bad) than anyone wants to admit. God Bless America and all its inhabitants. Peace.

DickyHertz Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

Man arrested for placing noose in tree.

Imus: What color was he?
Wolf: White.
Imus: There you go. Now we know.

Imus: Where was he from?
Wolf: The south.
Imus: There you go. Now we know.

WASP! Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

Imas is a old fool who provides daily doses of inane humor for his brain dead trailer park listeners. This is why WASPS rule!

Carol Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

It's a shame that this world has come down to this, everybody bitching about something another person says. Any color, race or religion, we are all equal and loved in God's Eyes. So why can't everybody just get along.

mr. re Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

People need to forget about who conquered who, and move on with our lives today.

dd Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:51 PM EST

Denise- Thats becuase their are more white people :P

Mike S. Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

No it’s like Imus asking, what color hat was he wearing? Wolf: a cowboy hat. Well there you go…now we know!

Adrianis Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 06:49 PM EST

Power said: "And as far as blaming a whole race, how are you to say that there isn't something wrong with you white people as a race? What about those Austrians - they are locking people up in basements every other day over there. Doesn't happen in Italy right across the border though - so maybe that tells you something about that race. Just like slavery tells you something about the people who did it - whether or not they are the actual people."

First off, I'm not white.
Second, are you saying that most Austrians lock up people in basements? - if so, that is totally incorrect. Next, I don't get what you mean in regards to Italians - you realize, for instance, that Italians are the inventors of Fascism, right? However, does this mean ALL Italians are Fascists? - of course not.

What you are doing is no different than whites who look at areas in the USA with high concentrations of black people & point to the high violence & low IQ scores and say "see? - it's because they are BLACK!
