Amateur Night with pros Pussycat Dolls and Danity Kane

Categories: 'Nashville Star', Ouch! That was my ear!, Reality TV, Things That Make Me Die Inside

I don't really ask too much from the artists that persist on my guilty pleasure playlist. The Pussycat Dolls have been in my good graces since the "Don’t Cha" days, and Danity Kane recently won me over with the addictive "Damaged." But I think it's time for me to make one request: stick to the recording studios and flashy music videos and leave my primetime TV watching alone. Thanks.

I'm not the only one who cringed witnessing Danity Kane screech through their performance on Monday night's Nashville Star (above) — and according to your PopWatch comments, your ears were bleeding too. What made it all more of a train wreck was the fact that anyone who performed before or after Diddy's ladies could and did sing better than the girl group. Sure, Gabe Garcia might not be able to pull off the pleather jumper quiet like Ms. O'Day, but that's what Celebrity Fit Club is for.

The Pussycat Dolls made the same faux pas the week before on my summer love So You Think You Can Dance. Their jiggles and gyrations don't come close to the beautiful moves of the versatile contestants who tackle the Viennese waltz one week and master krumping the next.

Shield your eyes and ears on this one — Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up" on So You Think You Can Dance.

As American Idols sell records and SYTYCDancers take top spots in music videos and Broadway shows, can our manufactured, one-trick-pony pop stars still compete in this world of budding amateur talent?

DK- hot mess. PCD- way bigger hot mess. Do you think if they combined their collective craptasticness together they could perform the most craptastic live performance ever?

So one bad show makes you write off Danity Kane, They can actually sing compared to other artist and groups. You don't give them enough credit. They have just come off tour and some of the singers were sick. I bet you couldnt do what they did

Can i just say to the person before who says theyve been doing tours, right now should be there best performances because there using their voices more and they should be better...i think danity kane are a good group, but there live singing is terrible, i dont think ive watched one performance on youtube of them that proves they can sing live. Pussycat dolls on the other hand put more effort into their dancing then singing.

even on the soundcheck performances danity kane did they couldn't even sing the songs right...i think they need some live singin lessons before they do another live performance again

K, Danity kane was phenomenal and they rock as a group. Pcd on the other hand really needs to stop it with that terrible song and that toddler vid. Go DK:)

What will happen when they go live on Broadway? http://www.broadway.tv/blog/broadway-magazine/danity-kane-aubrey-oday-stars-in-broadway-hairspray/

Danity Kane's performance was not that bad...you also have to remember they just came off tour and still doing concerts state to state...the booking was last minute...and they changed the back track to which they were singing...and aundrea and aubreys earing fell off while performing. Overall I hqve to give it to them. PCD dont care for Nicole is the only one who can sing in the whole group but now she is tryin to much with notes she cant sing and weird falsettos....

the PCD song is just terrible. It doesn't matter if it's recorded or not. It also doesn't help that the sound was royally screwed up that night on SYTYD in general, including the mix for this performance. I didn't think Danity Kane was too bad.

Danity Kane were not that bad, and they are the result of amatuer performers who won a spot on the group. Unlike PCD they had to go through an extensive audition process for P. Diddy on Making The Band, where they had to prove they could sing and dance, so 1 okay performance should not take away the fact these are some really talented girls. I am not the biggest P. Diddy fan, but i think he did a good got putting together this group.

Fist of all Danity kane performance wasn't that bad.. Damaged is a hard song to sing plus their dancing and singing at the same time..
PCD did ok..

Michael Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

Well...not to toot my own horn but my karaoke version of Damaged this week was a hell of a lot better the DK's version of their own song...pity I was actually starting to think they were real singers, unlike PCD who I don't even need to watch the video to know the real deal.

Rakeem Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Okay, Danity Kane was not that bad, I admit it was a weaker performance than usual but it wasn't awful. I didn't hear anyone "sceech" as you call it (maybe you should gtet your ears checked), but their voices did sound a little worn out. As for the Pussycat Dolls...ugh.

umm.....I didn't think Danity Kane sounded that bad--pretty close to the recording. Pussycat Dolls however..........TERRIBLE!

Vicki Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 08:28 AM EST

Wow, that was pretty bad. But "Damaged" isn't an easy song to sing well. I'll give them credit for at least trying to sing live while dancing.

Welles Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 08:06 AM EST

The ones with ability can. I remember when Ciara was on SYTYCD, the girl can't sing to save her soul, but she twerked it out like her azz was on FIYA!
