'The Bachelor' recap: The Women Tell All (But Not Enough)

Thebachelor_l It's the Bachelor episode host Chris Harrison looks forward to all season, because he finally gets to do something. Only, this time, he didn't do enough.

After the women were introduced — and Amanda and Noelle received the loudest applause — Harrison focused his attention on Stacey, the Human Muppet who gave Bachelor Matt her panties on the first evening. Were Harrison Jeff Probst, she would've been forced to say why she did that — was it a premeditated attempt to secure screen time or a spontaneous decision fueled by alcohol (a substance that curiously, was never mentioned, even though Stacey passed out on a bed before the rose ceremony). All Stacey said is that she's actually a sweet person, who wanted to stand out from the other 25 women (actually, that's the other 24). Yes, she's embarrassed to watch the footage of pantygate and of her never-before-seen smiling threats against the other ladies and their loved ones: "They're all whores. I'll f---in' kill 'em all and their whole families." Does it make it laughable or more disturbing that she'd apparently repeated that sentiment throughout the night?

Stacey eventually issued a blanket apology to anyone she may have offended, which is something Marshana (pictured, with Harrison) would never do. I've always wondered what happens when a Mean Girl watches a teen movie that portrays her kind as evil — does she get it? The answer is no. I do think Marshana believes what's she saying: she's not intentionally setting out to hurt others, she's just being herself and they can choose to love her or leave her. But the bottom line is, if you respect other people, you do what you can to get along with them. Marshana's uncompromising nature is just as condescending as Robin saying "I'm not there to make friends." Just be decent no matter where you are.

Robin was the first lady to sit in the hot seat, and she said she took on a "superhyperactive competitive role" because she's been burned by women in the past — and the women she was up against were amazing. Amanda, who kept her use of the word like to a minimum, was able to express what everyone dislike about Robin: She kept referring to the show as "a competition" and saying, "I'm gonna win." No one was convinced she was there for Matt, which made it doubly hard to watch her steal their time with him. Here's what I don't get: If Robin had been as into Matt as she said she was, she would've had questions for him tonight. I mean, the man totally led her on before her last rose ceremony, and all she said to him as she was leaving was "Bon soir." I'm not buying it.

Amanda, on the other hand, actually impressed me during this hour. She was fair: After Harrison got into Marshana and Chelsea's word battle — or what some people (meaning: Harrison) have called "the most dramatic fight in Bachelor history" — she piped up to say that rooming with Marshana, she saw more to her than the person who shouts "Walk off" and "You're dismissed." She was entertaining: She said she actually thought Matt choosing Chelsea over her was a prank — his way of getting back at her for her fake parent routine. (That would've been awesome, if not an incredibly cruel joke on Chelsea.) Plus, she was real: she admitted that she still had no idea what went wrong with Matt, especially after he'd tried so hard to make fake dad believe that he cared for her. I wish engaged and "extremely happy" Matt would have led with the closing of his explanation — he's sorry she got hurt, but he just felt he had a better chance at lasting love with Shayne or Chelsea — and not said that spiel about Amanda using the word "like" more than "love." Amanda shouldn't waste time wondering what would've happened if she'd "opened up more" — she told the man, after a handful of dates, that she thought she could be with him forever and didn't want to imagine her life without him in it. To me, that's a pretty strong signal that someone's into you. Amanda should have no regrets. She'd already learned the moral, she preached: People need to know how you feel, because they're looking for love just like you are.

Did you get the closure you needed? I'm still wondering:

• So Kelly sounds that way even when she's sober?
• How often did Matt witness Amanda's meeps?
• If Marshana felt good about leaving Matt because people like Noelle and Amanda were still in the house, how does she feel about Chelsea and Shayne being his final two?
• Does Carri regret biting a can in two, which she did again? (By the way, the off-camera producer asking her if she was saying she's a "Swedish hooker" or "sweet as sugar" was my favorite blooper.)
• Does redheaded Michelle P. regret the singing?

Matt choose Shayne. No surprise there. I give the relationship 6 months. Shayne is way too young. She seems like a great person though.

Mulan Sat, May 10, 2008 at 12:33 PM EST

I don't know who it is going to be!! Part of me says shayne but the other screams chelsea!! who is it?

Dah Thu, May 8, 2008 at 09:47 PM EST

Of course some of you imbeciles would compare Marshana and Omarosa.

Leah Wed, May 7, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

Um.. Marshana is NOTHING like Omarosa. Where is the similarity..just b/c they are both black and outspoken? Omarosa is a horrible woman who clearly thinks she is more fab than she really is. Marshana was, although a drama queen at times, funny and entertaining. She had really kind things to say about both Noelle and Amanda and told it like it is, esp about that crazy Stacey giving her stank panties to the Bachelor!

I hate when they don't ask the other girls who they think he picked. Makes me think that it's VERY OBVIOUS who Matt choose to the girls and the producers didn't want to possibly give it away by letting them speak. Thought it was a shame to give Robin and Marshana so much screen time, but none for Noelle who came in FOURTH! Hate that Marshana girl, annoying, *huge sigh*, somehow I don't think that's the last we've seen of her!

Benjamin Tue, May 6, 2008 at 02:33 PM EST

To be fair to the producers, I also thought she was saying something Swedish hookers.

Matt's buzzcut Tue, May 6, 2008 at 02:24 PM EST

Totally agree that Marshmouth has got to be related to Omarosa! I was thinking that but had blissfully forgotten Omarosa's name until now. Thanks for reminding me...I guess.

It's too bad that Marshanna was given so much screen time to feed her already inflated ego. I thought what meeps said about her was interesting. Sounds like maybe she is a drama queen when the camera is on her, but a bit more toned down when it is not. So many of the women never even said a single word. Why were they even there?? I thought Kelly was hilarious.

Kathy Tue, May 6, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

Jerilyn, LOL very possible! That was a bad recap show, they gave most of the screen time to the most attention grabbing women like Marshanna and Robin who had already had way too much and then didn't have time to talk to quite a few others, like Noelle, or ask the women what they thought about the last two. Either Matt is clueless or the show is somewhat rigged, maybe he picks a few that he really wants to keep and the show picks a few to keep around for dramatic TV. Otherwise it's hard to explain why he wouldn't have been able to see through Marshanna and Robin for so long.

rach Tue, May 6, 2008 at 01:57 PM EST

Maybe Omarosa runs secluded training cells in various locations around the country...Al-Qaeda style.

Jerilyn Tue, May 6, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

Does anyone else think Marshana is Omarosa's little sister?

To Ryan Tue, May 6, 2008 at 12:41 PM EST

Now I KNOW there can't be any hetero guys who actually watch this show...

stuff Tue, May 6, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

bizarre show. bizarre recap. They let Matt off easy. Wonder why? Barely talked to any of the gals. Wanted to hear what they thought of the final two. Why no convo with Noelle? They were intentionally letting Matt off easy Why? Because a love match has been made - again - finally. There have been so many disasters. They need a positive ending.

My buddy writes a funny blog recapping the bachelor at TheLukeJohnson.com . Check it out!

I always wondered if, when watching episodes back, people were embarrassed by their behavior. I DID feel a smidge of that from Robin (I still don't like her but she seemed a bit sheepish after watching her montage). Marshana, on the other hand, could have been beat upside the head with the "what the f were you thinking, girl" stick and ahe still wouldn't have a clue that she was/is completely obnoxious. I was glad that they didn't give singer(huh?)/songwriter(what?) Ashlee any more airtime to further her career(delusional). And I also wish they would have asked the girls who they thought Matt picked.

In conspiracy theory world...I noticed in previews for next week that when Shayne was putting in her earrings for the final ceremony, her manicure looked like Chelsea's. (i really need to get myself a life!)

cj Tue, May 6, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

It was odd that Noelle wasn't interviewed at all. Too bad - I would have liked to hear her take on it all!

AA Tue, May 6, 2008 at 10:34 AM EST

But msw, could you stand to listen to Amanda saying "like" every third word? For an entire season! The horror!

msw Tue, May 6, 2008 at 10:31 AM EST

I would love to see Amanda become the next Bachelorette. I like Chelsea and Shane, but Amanda was my favorite this season-would love to see her search for her true love with 25 new guys

MsDaisy Tue, May 6, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

Seems like Project Runway would have been a better fit for Marshana. Stacie would fit right in with the strippers on Rock Of Love. I too missed Chris asking the girls who they thought Matt would choose in the end.

Matt's buzzcut Tue, May 6, 2008 at 09:57 AM EST

It was clear to me that Marshana more than anyone was there for the screentime and competition. The reason she flipped on Chelsea in the "fight scene" was because Chelsea alluded to that. Whether or not she liked Matt is a mystery. She was the most boring and annoying part of this bachelor. I was frustrated that she got so much screentime on the GTA. Who gives an S what she thinks. I would have rather heard from Noelle as she seems to be one of the more normal ones. Also, most of all I would like to hear what the girls think of Chelsea and Shayne and who they think will win!
