'The Bachelor' recap: Monkey + Matt

May 13, 2008, 11:41 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'The Bachelor', Reality TV, Television

Bachelor_l Well, I thought Bachelor Matt was going to pick Chelsea... right up until his parents, Tony and Trish, said they could see him more with Shayne. In my mind, his parents' blessing was all Matt needed to seal his happily ever after with his 22-year-old cuddle monkey. By the end of the finale, Shayne had won me over, too. And you know I hated that.

Let's just get right to the final rose ceremony, shall we? I realized, as I watched the first limo pull up, that I was taking deep, calming breaths like Chelsea. Such a proud moment. Matt attempted to put us Chelsea at ease with a compliment: "You've worn some amazing dresses, and this has to be the best." Actually, Matt, she's looked better, but you're a leg man, so I see why you said that. Mercifully, he didn't wait too long until he dropped the "I can't give you everything you need" bomb. But what hurt the most, I'm sure, was the shrapnel: "At times I thought you were the one, many times." How is hearing that, or how much you'll be missed, helpful? I loved that Chelsea stopped and fought with Matt as he walked her back to the limo, but I think her argument that Shayne was the fakest one in the house was a little desperate. She should have nailed him more for saying that his only "but" with her is that it took her a "long time" to open up to him. That's such crap. A) You haven't known each other a "long time" and B) The woman took off her panties on national television for you. She put herself out there, okay. Just tell her the truth: She's not warm and cuddly, and you want a woman who is. That's allowed. I think Chelsea's "guarded" nature is what ultimately did her in with Matt's parents as well. Though Trish was happy to see Matt being himself with Chelsea, she questioned whether she was seeing the true Chelsea. And to be fair, Chelsea spent all her time explaining why she was or wasn't guarded and didn't get to reveal anything about herself. (Well, other than that she's a good guesser: She had Matt's brother Simon on her side from the moment she correctly identified "wellies" as rain boots.)

Shayne's London date went surprisingly well. Though she started off spilling wine on herself, she pulled it together for the meal. When Matt's father asked her how old she was, she handled it with humor, which we know this family values: "I'm actually 12," she said. You have to admire how Shayne handled Simon. She asked him for his honest first impression of her, and then didn't jump in and get defensive when he admitted that initially, he had no idea what Matt saw in her other than the obvious blond beauty. But Simon had to admit that he'd underestimated her. She didn't shy away from difficult questions and was warm, open, and genuine. Those qualities impressed Matt's mother, who said she felt instantly at ease with Shayne. I think in an odd way, Shayne's laid-back vibe is a match for the British reserve, and could be why Matt's parents said they choose her over hyper Chelsea. (Though, I'd have paid to see one-on-one time with Shayne and Matt's dad.)

After the jump, is "Monkey, will you marry me?" the most romantic proposal in Bachelor history?

In the end, it came down to Chelsea's energy versus Shayne's warmth and total devotion to Matt (which he preferred to describe as "not having a selfish bone in her body"). He told Shayne that he'd looked into her big, brown eyes and thought it was too good to be true: An Englishman falling in love with an American movie star. But she made him believe that's she's just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her — okay, I'm paraphrasing. There's been laughter, fun, kisses, and "there's been monkey," he said. He knows they'll always be there for one another, he added, before dropping to one knee. Seeing Shayne lose her balance was awfully cute. As was her (rehearsed?) comeback: "I will marry you under one condition, that you will never look at another woman for the rest of our lives.... because you have looked at way too many during our relationship."

It's no wonder Shayne made Matt repeat the words "I love you" again and again. On their last night together before the final rose ceremony — after she dreamed about Matt proposing to her while floating through the sky like an angel (or, you know, parasailing) — she'd given him what she called the most amazing gift he'd ever receive from her. It was a photo of her, laying on the beach, next to an "I love you" she'd written in the sand. You could see she really wanted Matt to say the words then. But all she got was "Without a doubt, I'm falling in love with you." (Chelsea's post-helicopter-ride present, "Matt's California Survival Kit" complete with breakfast-in-bed cereal, earned the same response minus the "without a doubt"... telling?)

So, do you agree with Matt's choice, or do you agree with Chelsea that he's a fool? Did you notice how when Matt would speak about his feelings for Chelsea into the camera, he always seemed to struggle for words? Do you think that's because he truly cared for her and couldn't voice how much he wished their relationship had been perfect, or because he had to find the right words to make us believe that's what he was thinking? And lastly, how much did you love those subtle cutaway shots from the gorgeous beach to the Hilton hotel sign?

freddy Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 03:33 PM EST

hayne doing laundry or scrubbing toilets. http://freddy.300ms.com/hpccb.html hp No doubt she has enough accumulated wealth to hire a live-in cleaning lady. As far as her own maturity, she's only 22 years old and I wonder if she'll end up being a fat old lady (if you compare her to her obese mother). I think Matt will have a difficult time keeping her bathed in the luxury she's used to, seeing that she comes from a Hollywood wealthy family.

Yes Melody they are still together! And are going to be spending Matt's birthday together in London this July.

Melody Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

I think he made a great decision. I just want to know if they are still together or not

maria fobister/canada Sun, Jun 8, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

I am a big fan of Bachelor show, In the beginning of bachelor london calling, I knew that when matt saw shayne for the first time, I have a feeling there both have some physical attraction with each other. I noticed from all of their dates, their chemistry just works all the time, and I knew that without a doubt, Matt will pick Shayne as his bride. I was over the moon, and I am so happy for both of them.I hope there is a wedding soon, they make the most cutest couple and cutest babies,,,..

Chika Sun, Jun 8, 2008 at 12:06 AM EST

I am so glad he chose Shayne. I knew it had to be for keeps when he dubbed her "monkey" I love it when guys give nicknames and not the generic, "honey" or "doll" or "darling". It was just so great to watch them together on their dates. Shayne was great, she was real, she was drama-free, and just soooo darling. I hope they succeed like Trista and Ryan.

Demi Thu, May 29, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

I agree with Lily - I think Chelsea was a he/she...never understood the attraction between Matt and her. Where Shayne, was this little fun loving, playful, cuddle monkey...She was adorable. When all the other woman were arguing and fighting with each other, she was calm and trying to keep peace... And let's face it, I would have told Matt the same thing about not looking at other woman any more. Can you imagine how hard that would be?? Anyway, Matt's family could feel her warmth and love toward Matt and gave him great advise. Good luck Matt and Shayne - you will make beautiful babies!!

lilly Sat, May 24, 2008 at 12:35 AM EST

Chelsia is FUGLY...whoever said Shayne was a skank because she posed for a magazine must not know the meaning of it and need to look it up in the dictionary....the definition is Chelsea...dropping your undergarments infront of national TV is trashy and not classy in any way....she also had a manly-faced and was built like a man. I always wondered why Matt was still keeping her.Ultimately however true love prevailed. I'm just so happy that matt proposed to his cute "monkey". They deserve to be together. ummm, are you sure that Chelsea is not a man??? i always suspected that she just might be a man in women's clothing...those legs did not help her one bit (No wonder she concealed them with the long dresses)and yeah she also had no fashion taste...she lookes horrible like she was in a need of makeover. I sure wish MATT GRANT AND SHAYNE DUHL LAMAS a VERRY HAPPY FAIRYTALE LIFE

Joan Thu, May 22, 2008 at 06:48 PM EST

I lost a lot of respect for Matt for his choices of both Shayne and Chelsea. Chelsea is a cool cucumber with no personality at all. Matt passed up a lot of beautiful and intelligent girls for her. I never understood why she was a finalist when he had so many negative things to say about her actions toward him. Shayne is adorable and cuddly and athletic and Matt likes those qualities but somehow I can't see her ready to settle down. Matt is really handsome so I can see her attraction too but I have to agree with Shayne's dad that she was only there for the publicity.

Matt missed out on getting to know a lot of smart and attractive women because I think he was very attracted to Shayne from the start. Why he kept Chelsea around for so long I will never understand. I think the show's producers have some input into having the bacherlor choose a girl who is just not right - only to keep the viewers on edge and wondering.

bachelorfan Mon, May 19, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

Shayne is cute but I wonder if she'll really stick with him. She's really young & wants to be a star. They do have chemistry but will listening to that baby voice get old?

I am beyond thrilled that Matt choose Shayne his lil Monkey there is no excuse for Chelseas classless comments glad Matt didn't pick herl Wishing both Matt and Shayne a lifetime of happiness and love. :)

I am so glad that Matt chose Shayne. They really make a cute couple and I
really wish them well. Can't wait til they get married.

Ana Fri, May 16, 2008 at 03:06 PM EST

I was all into he picking Chelsea. And I agree that as the final episode advanced I saw how Shayne deserved it. Did you notice Chelsea wold NOT look Matt at his when she was offering her reasons for him to choose her? She never did! She did lookk him at his eyes when kissing, but when "talking for real" she wouldn't. I really wish Matt and Shayne well. He had it tough, it was a big group of great girls. It seems he found his one!!!! GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Linda Fri, May 16, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

They were on Ellen yesterday. It was a cute interview. They seem happy and grounded in the sense that they understood that the real part of their relationship is just beginning. It seems that they already tried working out the issue of him kissing all the other girls. Shayne was ribbing him about it and Matt had a sheepish grin on his face. It was cute.

Kelly Fri, May 16, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

Are they still together? Does anyone know?

Sally Fri, May 16, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

There are some unnecessary harsh comments about Chelsea. Give her a break. The girl was hurting when she said those things. Viewers have to remember that the girls only know their own experiences with Matt. They don't see how the guy behaves around other girls during their private time. No wonder they're confused. Given the difficult and uncertainty of the situation, Shanye's boldness in putting it on the line for Matt is what really impressed him. But I think that's just Shayne's emotionally open nature. Chelsea acted true to who she is and I give her the benefit of a doubt in what must have been a highly charged and confusing situation. She shouldn't have to pretend to be something she isn't. It wasn't so much that she wasn't "enough" for Matt but that they weren't the right fit in the end.

Minnie Fri, May 16, 2008 at 12:56 PM EST

It was very obvious that Matt was smitten with Shayne from the start. You could tell each time he looked and touched her. They interacted like they were already in a committed relationship. I think Matt probably felt that he needed to give Chelsea the opportunity to be more at ease with him. I don't think he lied about his feelings but ultimately he came to the conclusion that the initial connection with a person shouldn't be something you have to work for. Plus, he had mentioned in an interview that an ex of his was very not into PDA and didn't want to be in another relationship like that again.

LKK Thu, May 15, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

At first, I wondered about Shayne...but she completely won me over when she pulled out her blush brush on the slopes. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. She and Matt had great chemistry together, and I don't think I've ever seen a Bachelor's eyes light up so much at the end. I hope this is another Trista & Ryan!!

:)

Millie Thu, May 15, 2008 at 06:00 PM EST

I fell in love with Shayne too! if i where a dude i would have picked her. She was fun to be with, not nasty at all and more mature than the others. She was as real as any of them.

billy Thu, May 15, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

After her tasteless pantie show, Chelsea finally showed her true color by making a bitter and vicious comment on her competitor. This is definitely not a woman you want to marry to! Just way too bxxchy.

moore965 Thu, May 15, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

I think Mandi Bierly made a fair comment on the two girls. I would choose Shayne if I'm the bachelor.

megan Thu, May 15, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

I agree with the previous viewer that Chelsea's last comment "made her look stupid and bitter". I also agree that the way Chelsea talks made her sound like "she's drunk or slurring her words". Although I didn't like Shayne very much, I have to admit that Matt made a good decision by choosing Shayne over Chealsea. It seems to me that Chelsea is more of a "fake" than Shayne.

Susan Thu, May 15, 2008 at 04:25 PM EST

I think Chelsea could have washed her hair
and had a nice outfit on when meeting Matt's
family. It looked like she made no effort to be
presentable. Shayne looked great and
make a real effort in her cute dress.
Shayne was clearly the best choice. I think
she's real and perfect for Matt.
Chelsea made a very bad move criticizing
Matt's love (Shayne) at the end. It made
her look stupid and bitter.

Stephanie Thu, May 15, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I loved the ending! Matt & Shayne were extremely cozy and natural. I never thought Chelsea could get comfortable. She NEVER was able to look at Matt for any length of time. She was always nervous. Shayne is in no way fake. She was the most respectful girl there. She was always trying to keep the peace among the girls and to keep it fair with Matt. She was brutally honest about all of her feelings...towards Matt, her family, and his family. What fun to be so in love! Great TV.

Angel Thu, May 15, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I think these two adorable people actualy have a chance! I knew that she was beginning to feel something but the cutest moment of all was when he asked her if she is "high maintenance" and she started to deny it and then just said yes and talked about the shoes. It was all over after that moment! Their affection seems real to me. I am hoping for the forever kind of love for them.

amw002 Thu, May 15, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

Ick. Maybe she was genuine, but it certainly doesn't seem that way...I think it's that little girl voice of, "Maaaaatt, did you like my present? Maaatt, did you see what the photo says?" YES, he SAW it, he LIKED it, didn't he just say that??! I'm not sure that I could wake up to that every morning without a stiff drink.

patsy Thu, May 15, 2008 at 10:01 AM EST

Oh, I forgot to mention, did anyone else notice that every time Chelsea spoke she sounded like she was drunk and slurring her words! Or is that supposed to be sexy talk???? Ugh

Patsy Thu, May 15, 2008 at 09:54 AM EST

I knew all along that he'd pick Shayne! It was all in the cuddle - no one seemed to get more comfortably closer than those two. I'm sure they'll make a great couple - lots of love and laughter. And they'll make great babies, but they'll have lots of time to have fun together before they have them!

Mizreel Thu, May 15, 2008 at 02:58 AM EST

I can't believe I watched this but I knew it was going to be Shayne... its the combination of him feeling her and how she is connected to his romantic American Hollywood Fantasy, I think he kept her that long because of taht intrigue then fond that there was more to her... but I think she will drop him faster than her next touch up. well maybe her 3rd :) why not give love some hope. In that note the Bachelors have not stayed in relationships as long as the bachelorette has... there is a pattern. Teh guys pick HORRIBLY worng and then they think back MAN I shoulda...

Melissa Thu, May 15, 2008 at 01:27 AM EST

Oh, My God! The comment from wintersux about Shaynes dress made me fall over laughing. I could not put my finger on it. Where did she find that dress? Yes, it came from the Grease set. Thank you for that laugh, wintersux.

Sandy Wed, May 14, 2008 at 11:14 PM EST

I think people underestimate Shayne a lot. So she's not book intelligent but she's funny, genuine, and emotionally intelligent. She's honest, playful, lively, and doesn't take herself too seriously either. You can tell she is very comfortable being who she is. I call that being mature for 22. I did get the sense that Matt was trying to figure out if they were intellectually compatible but Shayne is 22 and has time to grow in that area as well. When Matt looks at her and cuddles with her, it seems like the most natural thing in the world. So it wasn't a huge surprise that he found his monkey. I wish them all the best.

KW Wed, May 14, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

Her actions now seem to point that'll she'll use her "true love" to promote her career. This wouldn't have happened with Chelsea - fair to say she'd use the time to bond.

Jenn Wed, May 14, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

I really did think it would be Chelsea until the last night. However I am glad it is Shayne. I really enjoyed her reaction and she did grow on me. Chelsea has bigger things waiting for her. Maybe we'll see her again soon!

LoveLove Wed, May 14, 2008 at 05:46 PM EST

I felt the same way about Shayne as most of you (and apparently Matt) she seemed too good to be true, and maybe a bit immature, but over time, she showed how genuine, caring and somewhat mature she is. On GGW cover?? That is wild but in today's world, well, I wish them the best, though odds may be difficult. I was routing for her, too, and Chelsea, though she was taller and physically maybe a better fit, I don't think that she had nearly as much to offer as Shayne -- Hey, if I was younger, single, and Lorenzo Lamas had an available son, I'd consider it, too!

Wed, May 14, 2008 at 05:16 PM EST

she'll make a lovely first wife

g.hill Wed, May 14, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

can you tell me where i can find the dress chelsea wore on the final night?

Sheryl Wed, May 14, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

I think Shayne is a total fake. We will be reading about the break up in the near future. On the other hand I didn't care for Chelsea either.

Sheryl Wed, May 14, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

Barbara Wed, May 14, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

Shayne was totally playing to the cameras in the finale. Did you watch her body language? Turning to the camera to speak? Throwing her arms out dramatically? That fake stumble? Dramatically telling him to tell her "I love you" one more time ... as her body was turned sideways to the camera ... not totally on him? 6 months, max.

Janelle Wed, May 14, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

I'm so happy with the decison. I think they will have a wonderful future! Monkey!

I am SO happy for Matt and Shayne. His proposal gave me goose bumps and tears in my eyes. It was just so cute and full of love. I was hoping all along that she would be the one he chose.

misslibby Wed, May 14, 2008 at 12:21 PM EST

1 - if he wants riveting talk he can do that at work ro with a pal with the same interests. 2 - when you come home from work there is food, recreation, fun, the house, the kids, the chores, the relaxation, the holidays, the monkey love... these are what we share with our loves. 3 - opposites attract - two halves make a whole - we do not have to be replica's of ecah other to be complete, in fact we should not be we should compliment and carry the missing ingredients to complete the other and make a strong union.

Kimberly Wed, May 14, 2008 at 11:16 AM EST

I only watched the first episode and the last. I knew the moment the two met that Shayne would be the one Matt would pick -- the chemistry on that initial meet was INTENSE and so obvious. So I wasn't surprised when I tuned in to the final episode and saw she was a finalist. Shayne exudes warmth and charm -- something I saw dreadfully lacking in Chelsea (although I only saw her in the one epiosde). Chelsea was cold and distant, and I felt she was forcing her emotions, her words, her actions. Shayne just seemed so natural and loving. It really was a no brainer and I wish them both well wherever life takes them.

Leigh Wed, May 14, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

I don't think he ended up with the best two at the end. Amanda and Noelle were beautiful and classy.

Chelsea just seemed a little white trashy and weird from the beginning so I would say he had to pick Shayne.

Cassie Wed, May 14, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

I don't think Shayne was "the only girl in the house" that acted civil to others. Both Amanda and Noelle were great to the others. I have to admit that Shayne grew on me as the show went on, but the baby talk is just too much. I have a hard time calling anyone who feels the need to talk that way "mature". And while she may have been sweet and loving to Matt, he had said at some point that she was a few sandwiches short of a picnic. When he tried to talk to her about politics she didn't have anything to say. I think he may be disappointed with the quality of conversation after a little while.

Solsbury Wed, May 14, 2008 at 10:24 AM EST

Shayne is on the cover of "Girls Gone Wild" magazine that includes a non-nude pictorial. There's your Shayne for you. Should've been Amanda.

sambo Wed, May 14, 2008 at 09:21 AM EST

I am soooo very happy that Matt picked Shayne! You could feel the love between these two. It always seemed ackward watching Matt and Chelsea. I don't understand why she called him a fool and said that Shayne was fake. Shayne seemed genuine the whole show. From the beginning. I just wish we could see the happy couple together now. Why no after the last rose show? Wierd. oh well... i agree mostly with what you recapped about the show.

msblack Wed, May 14, 2008 at 08:05 AM EST

From the beginning I felt Matt was a nice guy and that he was sincere about wanting a serious relationship. However, I was so scared that he was going to pick Chelsea. I could not understand why he kept her around this long, because it was obvious to me that when they were together it was almost painful to watch. However Shayne is mature, she is beautiful and she is definately sincere and what you see is what you get. When Shayne and Matt are together you can "feel the Love". Honestly I was on pins and needles and was so happy that he picked Shayne, she is a real woman. Good luck, and I wish you both the best for a long and happy life together.

I was amazed Shane made it though the first cut as she got drunk and passed out. Her prissy attitude especially in the beginning had me surprised each week as she was not eliminated. I couldn't imagine him wanting a woman that stated she is high maintenance. All I could think is that he was asking for problems with her. I have to say that in the end I saw a sincerity and an excitement of love with Shane It was a wonderful ending with all my hope for them finding the true love they are looking for. I would love to see a follow up with them still crazy about each other.

Chelsea was just kinda weird. How many times did she talk about not liking to hold hands with fingers intertwined. Who really cares about things like that...does she have some kind of OCD issues or what?

shelley Tue, May 13, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

I think Shayne was only on the show for the publicity. She was as fake as they came. And I loved the fake stumble. My God, you should have rehearsed more shayne. And as for Chelsea, think about becoming the next Bachalorette gf. You can do alot better than Matt. Its his loss honey.

Laura Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:57 PM EST

I think it was clear Matt was going to pick Shayne for weeks. He definitely seemed most taken with her.

And I am not sure if it was a mistake or intentional, but ABC ran a Bachelor ad for the finale a few weeks ago that showed Shayne's bracelet as Matt proposed. When they showed the two women dressed up, it was obvious who was going to be chosen.

Bazilia Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:51 PM EST

Shayne is as real as they come. She was the one calming down all of those actty b%^&hes in the house. She is able to deal with women and men and I felt was the best all round for Matt. They have my blessing and I hope that they last forever!

Hoosier Daddy Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:40 PM EST

I think the monkey and her trainer are going to be on Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday. Maybe I am to liberal but these girls shedding underwear with a dress on seems like a whole lot of nothing. Not my preference but plenty of people go "commando" all the time. Possibly I am skewed hearing my single friends telling me about the romps they have with girls met-online. Dropping your underwear seems pretty tame. Matt couldn't decide between Chelsea and a turtle so big surprise on his selection.

Marion Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:35 PM EST

As they say you dont just marry the girl you marry the whole family! and wow what a family this one comes with!
Matts family seems so low keyed and mentally adjusted, and Shaynes not so much. Best of luck to him he's gonna need it! I hope they don't have children too soon, cause he has to raise and babysit her first.

Sandy Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:15 PM EST

I have loved Shayne from the beginning and hoped Matt saw what I saw in her. She's so vibrant and mature for her age, honestly affectionate, and never tried to mislead anyone.

kelbell Tue, May 13, 2008 at 09:39 PM EST

I am so happy Matt chose Shayne. I truly wish them the best and hope they have a fairytale ending....and are married until "death parts them"...they are so adorable and I love the fact that he calls her monkey-I hope they have little monkeys of their own someday...I wish you all the best Matt & Shayne!! You guys are so perfect for eachother!!

Chelsea rarely made eye contact. I thought that was wierd. Shayne seems genuine. I hope they can make it work for a while, or even forever. That would be fun to watch. A few comments mentioned how long it takes to fall in love, and how unrealistic the show is. Well...I knew in 9 days I wanted to marry my husband. It was that love at first sight thing no one really believes in any more. 20 years later, he still rocks my world. When you know it's right. You just know! I think it can even happen in the contrived world of The Bachelor and I certainly hope it actually happened to Shayne and Matt. Did you see her legs shake when he proposed? She almost fainted. It was adorable. And, yes, great TV. Even though I'm in my forties, it's great fun watching. If I was single and 25, I'd do it for sure. Why not? Looks like fun.

I find it really strange that a grown man would want a 22 year old drama queen who giggles and squeaks everytime she sees him. i give this relationship 6 months MAX before her melodramatic lifestyle and family (hello bubble mouthed mother...does he really want his wife to turn into that in 35 yrs??) cause them to break up. she's go on to do some terrible "hills" reality show and he'll sleep his way through America....hopefully stopping at my house first

I didn't really keep up on this season of The Bachelor but I watched the finale just out of curiosity... I thought they seemed really happy and cute. I am 23 and engaged so I don't think you can put an age on love... if she really loves him then the best of luck to them!

wand3rful Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

i restrained myself from judging shayne..she is cute, adorable, matt seems to like/love her but the Girls Gone Wild Photo Cover sealed the deal...skank! And this was recent, while the show was airing. At least do Maxim if you are aiming for mtv crowd. But GGW? um, might as well do hustler. bad choice

ec Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:50 PM EST

I knew he'd pick Shayne. He chose her first in every rose ceremony! I liked her better than Chelsea anyways... The line, "If anything happens to me, I wish you and Chelsea well" was priceless!

Connie Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:35 PM EST

Personally I liked Amanda. I am afraid for Matt because of the "Hollywood" upbringing of his choice actress. I want it to last, but I am afraid that it will not.

LB Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

Shayne may not have been the best choice, but Chelsea was DEFINITELY not the right choice. Thank God he figured it out eventually... I feel the same way as most, I did not want to like Shayne, but I could not find any reason to dislike her... It was Marshana who was utterly annoying!

Tayllorrr Tue, May 13, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

i absoulty loved that fianle.
you have to admit that has been the bestt. Shayne i have loved since the very beggining. i knew that he lked her from the start. She was gorgeous and mature oh yeah and funnyy. whats more to like, i think they are the cutes couplee. i reaallyy hope the best for theem. ilove shayne dahl lamas. :D

Eric Tue, May 13, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

Bottom line....Matt chose the wrong girl. I give him and Shayne a year, maybe less.

MP Tue, May 13, 2008 at 06:17 PM EST

HOnestly, EVERY person on this show is on it for publicity in some way....even Mr. Bachelor...why? Who knows.....I just remember that it is TV and for entertainment...Shayne is a soap opera actress, after all. I wish them a bit of happiness (even if it is temporary!) and know the other girl will survive and be A OK. As for Matt....I think you may have mislead her just a WEE bit!!! ;)

JoAnna Tue, May 13, 2008 at 05:31 PM EST

It amazes me that, after only about 6 weeks, people can fall "in love" to the point of asking someone to marry them! It takes much longer than that, away from the TV hype filled with fabulous locations and all the money to do incredible things together, to test whether or not a relationship will work. It's difficult for me to imagine Shayne doing laundry or scrubbing toilets. No doubt she has enough accumulated wealth to hire a live-in cleaning lady. As far as her own maturity, she's only 22 years old and I wonder if she'll end up being a fat old lady (if you compare her to her obese mother). I think Matt will have a difficult time keeping her bathed in the luxury she's used to, seeing that she comes from a Hollywood wealthy family.

Chelsea came across to me as glorified White Trash. She made a few comments that were pretty hardcore and just seemed cold, harsh, and again, I don't think she'll age well.

O-Man Tue, May 13, 2008 at 05:28 PM EST

He definitely picked the right girl. Warm, funny, outgoing, athletic and ... are you listening girls ... nice. All you haters (like Chelsea) calling her fake are jealous. There is nothing fake about those brown eyes and that easy going attitude. Watch and learn.

Whatatramp Tue, May 13, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

The Bachelor? I thought I was watching Rock of Love 3! Talk about a skank. The GGW pics...ewwwww!

Rach Tue, May 13, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

I hardly find Chelsea to be prickly. I just think she's not quite as forthcoming with her feelings. Not everyone pours all their emotions out after knowing someone for only a week.

what Tue, May 13, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

Shayne was the only person in the house who acted mature, didn't yell at the other girls, tried to be nice and usually was the one to break up fights. She may have acted kind of blond at times but it appears to only be an act. I wanted so much not to like her but what isn't to like. She was the nicest, prettiest, and most devoted woman on the whole show. My only comment was like Matt's, she seems to good to be true. I hope the best for both of them.

gmawog Tue, May 13, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

Amanda was the one. Except for the stupid joke with the fake parents, she was great. Chelsea was as prickly as a porcupine, and Shayne . . . well, I think Matt was probably thinking a little below the belt . . .

AG Tue, May 13, 2008 at 04:48 PM EST

I read in another article that Matt says Shayne is horrible at playing Trivial Pursuit. -- I know, SHOCKING!

Julia Tue, May 13, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

I had a feeling that he was going to pick Chelsea, because he looked like he was going to pick someone who he can relate to, not that he didn't relate to Shayne, but she was a 22 year old actress, probably wanting to be in show business, but i actually wanted him to choose her because i thought that he had more chemistry with her than Chelsea

PH Tue, May 13, 2008 at 04:34 PM EST

I thought Shayne was a much better choice then Chelsea. I thought Chelsea was rather trampish and I think she was very fake. Her panty episode was stupid and showed us how she was totally classless. Hope Matt and Shayne make it. They seem like a fun loving couple.

you don't become an American by marrying an American. You can become a legal resident, and it may help you get a green card faster, but you still have to wait to become a citizen.

KJ Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

Shayne was adorable and give her props for her maturity. She never used the word "like", Amanda and Chelsea drove me insane these last two weeks with how often they used it, do they not listen to themselves when speaking out loud? "Like, I thought we were like in it for the long run, like I don't get it, like I'm bummed!"

CaseyL Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:44 PM EST

I hope if I have a son he choses a wife with his heart and his brains and not his w*()llie. Please. Shayne is as mature as newly made mozzarella. Well, if he wants whining and childish behavior in a wife, he's got it.

Where's the how long will it last pool??

GO GO GO DEANNA and for the LOVE OF GOD where is Michael Sleazak??? Can he join us for The Bachelorette???

shirlee Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

I think Shayne and Matt won't last 3 months. Hey how about this, Chelsea does next season's bachlorette and the 25th guy to get out of the limo is Matt trying to win her back! Now that would be awesome TV!

angela Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I knew it * I knew it * I knew it....I think once they got past the Vegas ep, Matt was a goner for Shayne. I liked Chelsea, but am sure she won't have trouble finding a good guy. Once the whole 'monkey' thing started, you knew he was going for Shayne.

Lannie Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Well its so funny to read all these comments , i always think why watch this stuff if you don't like it and all your going to do is criticize everything about it. I think you will be surprised to know that Shayne and Matt are already married. They did not wait after all and she is also well how to say this, has a bun in the oven. This is a marriage that will last you just wait and see. Anyway over 50% of marriages fail and they met the good old fashioned way, met someone in a bar isn't that the way these days, lol!!
